Recently reported STEERING problems on 2014 RAM 1500

The steering of the wheel is rough. i have to use small movements. it's like something is stuck or no power steering fluid. since there is no fluid, only electrical, there is something wrong with the electrical portion of the power steering pump

While driving the 2014 ram 1500 the vehicle has lost power numerous times. this is an intermittent issue and i have not been able to duplicate on the spot. this means that the lose of power can happen at any given time. this lose of power will result in losing steering and sometimes braking, since all are controlled by electronics. these occurrences have happened while normal driving conditions; rolling up windows, turning on bright lights, and just driving.

I have a 2014 ram with around 48k miles. back in february while driving i lost steering. luckily, i was able to get out of the way of a oncoming vehicle. i had my truck towed due to the safety issue of not being able to steer into my normal service dealer. they replaced the alternator stating that was the issue that made the truck lose steering. since then i have taken the truck back a few times with steering issues and they are not able to 'duplicate' the issue so cannot fix it. this past friday 11/15/2019 i went to leave my house and once again while i was driving the truck it lost steering and this time power dropped. i again had it towed into the service dealer on 11/18/2019. today 11/22/2019 they stated that again they could not duplicate the issue. they did find error codes about voltage but however stated that the computer 'fixed itself' and cannot fix the steering issues. with all this i love my truck, however with the with the safety of myself, my family, and others on the road in mind driving this truck while the steering can possibly go out at any time is not a good idea by any means.

Steering wheel doesn't lock and sensor is also causing cruise control to malfunction. this could be unsafe if that sensor controls anything else

Driving to indiana to see my grandbabies and the check electronic trailer brakes came on the check electronic braking system light came on. cruise control stopped working and lost power, the same thing happened on the way back to kentucky. i had the brakes done, but mechanic said it's a sensor i the steering column. this is really dangerous and needs to be recalled.

I was driving to work about to make a right turn when my power steering stopped working and an indicator light came on. lucky i was stopped at a light so i was able to safely pull over to the side of the road.

At 124000 miles, electric steering is going out. not seeing any recalls on my 2014 ram 1500. i do see several reports of the same. dodge needs to do something before someone gets seriously injured or killed.

Electric power steering rack is going out, making it difficult to drive on highway, almost causing a crash.

When driving on the florida turnpike at 70mph when the power steering assist shut off. i pulled off, restarted the engine and it was working against. checked the fluid levels and everything was ok. no more incident that trip. took to the dealer who diagnosed a faulty power steering module in the eps. required replacement if the entire steering rack. *dt invalid vin*jb

Lost electrical power steering cannot steer truck

The power steering quit working as i was pulling out of my driveway onto our street resulting in inability to steer the truck effectively. a warning light appeared & i had to look online to see what it meant as the manual did not have it. i had to have the truck towed to pueblo dodge & service advisor leslie later notified me of a $2,300 cost to repair the rack & pinion to get the electronic power steering working again. i have learned that many other people have had this problem with their 2014 ram 1500 p/u's in even more hazardous conditions on the road/street. it has about 46,000 miles on it. i am told that there is no recourse by the chrysler customer svc rep ernesha but she will file my complaint. it will not go any further than that as she says it is not worthy and out of the original warranty. leslie says it is not part of the 100,000 mile drive train warranty. i was considering purchasing a new ram truck as well but absolutely will not based on this experience as i will apparently have to pay at least $2,300 to repair a hazardous defect in a relatively new vehicle in excellent condition otherwise. i am obviously very disappointed in this company and situation.

Electric power steering assistant at low slow speeds cuts in and out making it difficult to handle the truck. truck has 51,000 miles only and is a 2014 i see that there is a recall for the same issue on a year later model of the truck but not on my vehicle.

'takata recall' electrical power went out in my 2014 dodge ram 1500. went to the dealership, they replaced the pdc for $737.69 and a day after the power steering stopped while driving and almost crashed into several cars. *dt *dt*jb vehcile was repaired.*jb

While driving my vehicle, on a turn in either direction my steering wheel would jerk back the opposite way. this was a sudden onset without warning. eventually it led to barely being able to turn the truck at all. no service lights were on, dealer said that it would eventually go out and not be able to turn the vehicle. mine is a 2014, there was a 2018 in for the same problem when i went to the dealer. dealer had also had 4 other trucks (same model) in the shop within the last few weeks and the part was on backorder. dealer had no information on a recall but if this is happening in 2018 models and the dealer has them in to be worked on in large numbers this clearly says there is something going on. it is unsafe and dangerous to be driving not knowing when it is going to lock up. i know my truck has over 100,000 miles but there are 2018 in there that barely have any on them.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving approximately 60 mph, the cruse control did not engage. on other occasions, the cruise control did not deactivate. the failures occurred for approximately one month. the vehicle was taken to baxter jeep/ram/chrysler (7713 s 19th street, belleview, ne 68147) where it was diagnosed that the harness for the steering column was shorting out and needed replacement. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Very hard to steer when moving, any driving city or highwaymore going around turns or turning corners, it goes extremely hard, then easier the hard again, i was told there are recalls for it starting 1/2015, this is extremely dangerous , i have no pictures since you can't see a problem. the problem is getting worse, does this at any speed

I have had 2 rack pinions replaced and was just told that the this one is bad to. stiff steering with it catching at times also service steering light on.

Vehicle has just under 77k miles on it, powertrain warranty expired end of february due to time restraint before reaching the 100k miles limit (7yr/100k mile on a certified used) vehicle purchased march 2016. while driving this week the power steering randomly fails causing the wheel to snap to one side, at freeway speed this could be fetal. i have read forums of several others having the same issue in the past and it costing $2,000-4,000+ to replace the esp (electronic power steering). part is not fixable without replacement and under 100k miles should not be having this issue. extremely dangerous if this would've happened at freeway speed, i had the first occurrence while turning a corner at approx 25mph nearly sending me off the road. restarted the vehicle and problem went away leading me to believe it may be a one time software glitch. vehicle had no problems for the next couple days and now the steering has repeatedly failed causing me to be unable to drive it.

While driving on the freeway, the steering started to get almost un-steerable and stiff. dealer says complete steering system needs to be replaced. truck is only 4 1/2 years old and is very well maintained. *dt *dt*jb

While driving down the street and making a left hand turn, the wheel felt hard to turn, but then was fine after that, about 5 minutes later getting onto the highway the wheel got tight again, and while merging onto the highway the wheel was extremely difficult to turn. taking an exit and making a right hand turn i had to use all of my effort to turn and straighten back out. felt like the wheel was going to lock up. making turns the rest of the way back home was very difficult. the eps system will turn back on when the wheels are about 3/4 of the way turned, and turn back off making the turn very difficult then briefly easy. but when i was having to use my body to turn and then eps kicks back on i made a violent turn and had a very hard time getting back strait and in my lane

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v021000 (steering). the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. carl burger dodge (8355 hercules st, la mesa, ca 91942, (619) 485-1485) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

I was accelerating my truck on a city street at approximately 45 mph. the power control module, battery control module, crank position sensor, tone wheel and power steer control module all failed at the same time. the truck shut down and had to be towed into the dealer.

Dodge ram steering recall alert- this same situation happened to me in my model 2014 dodge ram 1500 big horn. recall needs to be extended the nut holding the steering knuckle and right control arm separated while driving. i felt a huge pop and jerk of the steering wheel. luckily i was traveling at a low rate of speed. i took to suncoast dodge dealer immediately, he said i was lucky i could if i was on the freeway which i was shortly before. he said he has never seen a nut fall off before, but it did and, could rolled and caused serious accident. i was charged for repair and picked up truck today 2/5 then saw recall for this exact situation released today by chrysler fiat, but my vehicle was not included.

During cold weather in minnesota, the electronic power steering failed to respond causing my truck to go into the ditch.

Was driving my 2014 ram 1500 hemi 5.7 liter when i got error message power steering guild maintenance needed. the 2014 ram model has no reservoir so i took it in to the dealer. the delearship couldn't clear message now saying whole part rac and pin need to be fixed. the truck was running fine no issues all of sudden got message and couldn't turn steering wheel. i read similar complaints from 2015 ram 1500 please let me know if there is a recall on the 2014 model. i would upload docs. but the dealer has my truck.

The factory "air ride" suspension fails in cold weather. the air bags completely deflate, leaving the vehicle with no suspension. losing all suspension ability while driving is a serious risk to life. encountering small potholes or icy roads without suspension increases the likelihood of wrecks. the lowering of the suspension changes the steering geometry required to properly steer a vehicle on the roads. camber, caster, and toe of the steering geometry are negatively effected and will result in increased likelihood of wrecks. i took my vehicle into the local dodge dealerships in alaska and they acknowledge the air ride suspension does not function here but cannot make repairs. i called dodge corporate line and they ask me to take it back to the same dealerships that inform me that there is no fix. please issue a recall on the ram 1500 air ride suspension as this is a serious risk to life allowing these vehicles to operate in cold climates.

Power steering warning light illuminated on startup power steering inoperative. turned off waited one minute ran ok. at my next stop it did the same again but took six minutes before power steering worked. both times the vehicle was stationary.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 55 mph, the power steering seized; however, the contact was able to steer the vehicle home. the vehicle was towed to casebere motor sales, chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram trucks (5768 oh-15, bryan, oh 43506, (419) 636-4594) to be diagnosed. the contact was waiting on the results of the diagnostic test. the manufacturer informed the contact to find out what was wrong with the vehicle and to let them know. the failure mileage was 38,000.

Electric power steering failure when cold. once vehicle warms up it will work. afraid the steering will fail while driving. known problem by dodge and chrysler. 2015 rams have been recalled for same issue i understand. can't understand why 2014 is not included. thanks for your assistance with this serious safety issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 50 mph, the contact attempted to turn the steering wheel to the right, but it seized without warning. the vehicle was taken to newark chrysler jeep dodge ram (244 e cleveland ave, newark, de 19711, (800)-653-0535) where it was diagnosed that the steering wheel failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there were no recalls. the failure mileage was 70,000.

Power steering failure - in motion - on a city street - while turning. vehicle is out of initial warranty (still under 100k mile) - but a major component such as power steering should not be failing at 83,828 odometer miles. the entire gear rack has to be replaced and the total bill was $2735.85. customer service has yet to provide any details explaining manufacturer life expectancy of the part. this vehicle is in excellent condition and well cared for - thus the subsequent phone calls to buy my vehicle from the dodge dealership. yet, there is no acknowledgement that this part should not be failing at this early mileage or that they will help me. there was a wiring harness issue with this same vehicle that was resolved under warranty at approx 30k miles. my vehicle is paid for.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 45 mph, the steering wheel seized. the contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering column electric sensor failed. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued to occur. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 49,914.

I have notifications of these various recalls and have tried to get these corrected or at least checked out at the dealership where i purchased my truck. first i was told that appointments were now required. then i was advised that 1st come/1st served was now required and full schedules are usual. now i received another notification. i care for my ram, but my time is also important.

Yesterday while rounding corner on highway vehicle steering wheel suddenly did not want to turn felt like it was binding up. had to use both hands pulling hard on wheel to make corner and then the wheel did not center on its own. i went out of my lane of traffic fortunately no one was in the other lane. steering returned to normal for.a few minutes then it happened again on exit ramp. it has happened on and off multiple times. there is no warning before it happens and electric assist warning light has never activated when this has occurred. i am currently at local repair shop having the truck looked at. in the past i owned a toyota pickup without power steering and this is 20 times more difficult to control when losing the electric assist. this happens on the highway at highway speeds as well as on city streets. if can happen on just gentle bends in the roadway at highway speeds or low speed turns. the steering is just as difficult to move no matter the speed when it occurs. steering wheel feels like it's stuck but will move with a lot of force from both hands. i almost hit the curb at low speed on the way to the repair shop this morning.

In early 2018 i started to notice that the steering on my truck would "gum up". as you started to make a turn the steering would be fine but then as you continued through the turn it would take more effort to turn the wheel. it never completely locked up but then go back to normal. to me it seemed that the power steering pump was failing or low on fluid. when i checked i found that there is no pump but an electronic motor assist for the steering. i took the vehicle to the dealer for regular service and they checked it out but said that they could not duplicate my complaint. i tried to investigate when it would happen but there was no common thing. on april 14th i was driving on an interstate highway and noticed that even while tracking in a straight line the truck steering would gum up . as long as i think about it i don't worry but i am afraid that it will fail completely. i took it directly to the dealer and they had no one to look at it. i took it back to dealer on the 17th but again i could feel it going but nothing while i had the mechanic in the truck. sometimes i can feel it while stationary and just turning the wheel. i have noticed that it goes away on rainy days. almost like the steering is getting lubricated but once the weather is dry for a few days the gummy feeling comes back. the dealer did say that the electronic power steering unit did not look like it was leaking but when i was underneath the truck i saw that the rubber boots on both sides of the unit appeared to be stained (see pix)

The electric power steering failed on the truck at 60,000 miles. there was no power steering on the truck. it was determined the control module failed but was not replaceable by itself since the entire steering rack unit is sealed so i had to replace the entire rack. this issue has been seen in other model years of this truck and ram actually issued a recall on only 440 2016 models under recall s19 and nhtsa campaign 16v167000. this is a faulty design and can obviously be very dangerous losing power steering while driving. ram refused to reimburse or pay for any part of the new steering rack. *tt consumer had it repair and is drivable.updated 8/16/18*jb

Vehicle lost all power steering multiple times while driving, completely unable to steer the truck. red eps light illuminated on the dashboard. unable to reset by restarting truck, or disconnecting the battery. cost over $2500 to have entire electronic power steering rack replaced. concern happened while sitting still, and while driving down the road.

One morning in december of 2017, i started my parked truck in the driveway of my home and the electric steering stopped working properly at 38,000 miles. whether you are going forward or in reverse, the steering is very hard to turn. you must slow down to 10 mph or less to be able to turn steering wheel and maintain your lane. otherwise your turns will be to wide and cross over into opposing lane of traffic.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while driving 30 mph, the power steering failed and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. prior to the failure, the steering ability was stiff and very hesitant. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (friendly dodge chrysler jeep located at 2499 state route 14a, penn yan, ny 14527) where it was diagnosed that the steering gear, electronic stability control, and rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and agreed to cover the cost due to good nature with a $200 deductible. case number: 31759119 was provided. the failure mileage was approximately 39,590. updated 07/18/17*lj updated 09/20/2017*js

Power steering control module is failing intermittently in cold temperatures. so far, the failures have all been on startup, but it is getting progressively worse. the module has failed 8 times now, rendering the power steering non-functional. the ram dealership has verified the computer system code indicating the failure. the truck has 32,000 miles and ram is refusing to replace it under warranty. they insist that it must fail completely before they will replace it. this is clearly a defective part, and it is clearly a safety issue. ram customer service has acknowledged that it is a safety issue and that they are potentially endangering lives, and yet they refuse to do the warranty work. i see other reports here of these units failing while the vehicle is in motion, causing a crash. for ram to insist that it fails completely means they are risking a crash to save a few dollars on warranty work. i don't know how that can even be legal.

This truck wobbles at speeds of 80 miles per hour.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ram 1500. while the vehicle was stopped at a median and proceeding to make a left turn, the steering wheel seized. the vehicle drove into a ditch. the contact stated that the steering wheel indicator illuminated after the failure occurred. no injuries were sustained and a police report was not filed. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion steering module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Transmission was replaced due to a manufacturing defect, not part of a recall, rear main seal was replaced, rear differential seal was replaced, high mount brake light was replaced due to water leaking in the cab. there is a chemical smell coming from engine thru vents. front tires wearing on the outside most likely the tie rod defect that the dealer won't acknowledge.

While driving my vehicle on a limited access highway the steering wheel suddenly pulled violently to the right. i was driving in the right hand lane and the vehicle made a extreme turn to the right striking the guardrail. the vehicle then rebounded off the railing causing the rear bumper to strike the railing. the vehicle then rebounded into the driving lanes before i could regain control. i then pulled the vehicle onto the shoulder of the roadway to survey damage. at that time i noticed the electronic stability control fault light was illuminated on the dash. since this was a one vehicle accident with no injuries i did not contact emergency services. at the time of the accident i was driving 60 mph. the posted speed limit on the roadway. additionally there were rain showers in the area and the roadway was wet, there was no pooling of water at the accident site.the temperature was around 50 degrees and the ground was warm.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a dealer. after the vehicle received three recall repairs, it began experiencing various failures. the contact indicated that the dealer was notified more than five times and refused to provide a remedy to repair the vehicle. the contact mentioned that the instrument cluster failed to work causing various warning indicators to randomly flash while the vehicle was in operation. there was also a steering failure in which the cruise control failed to work and water entered the vehicle due to the seals not being correctly installed after the recall repairs. the contact indicated that the failures were getting progressively worse. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the nhtsa campaign numbers were unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

***blf note call consumer to get more info*** in motion a wobble in motion 40 mph steering shaking front end shimming in motion pulled to right in steering thru the ride of 1300 miles. highway and main road driving 2014 pulled to the right on a long trip and 2015 wobble dimming steering shaking etc on a long trip.

While driving to work on a smooth straight road, the emergency information screen in my gauge cluster started flashing and stated "service power steering" "service electronic brake system" "service electronic brake controller" "service transmission" it also stated to not shift to park as shifting may become inoperable once stopped. my power steering was gone, my gas pedal was inoperable and braking was very weak. i had to muscle the truck to the side of the road and slowly come to a stop and shifted into park. i turned the key fob to off and let it sit for a few minutes. when i tried to restart the vehicle it would not even attempt to turn over. now, my key fob was also stuck in the ignition and would not turn to the off position to remove the key. i called chrysler roadside assistance and sat on hold for 55 minutes before the first person answered the phone. after 10-15 min we had a tow truck set up but that wouldn't be there for another 75 minutes. so from the time i called to when the tow truck actually arrived it was almost 2.5 hours! good thing it wasn't the middle of winter. they replaced the ignition module. that wasn't the problem. then they thought it was the bcm. that didn't work as they now "only have communication with half of the vehicle". i'm still not sure what that means but that's where we are at day 7. i do not want this vehicle back. i do not feel safe driving it if the service department has no idea how to properly fix it or even know if they have properly fixed it with their guess and check methods. if i had been traveling at higher speeds or pulling a trailer when this happened, the outcome could have been disasterous! or even worse if my wife had been driving in 4wd and lost power steering there is no way she could have pulled the vehicle over safely. huge safety concern that i want no part of. this is on top of the 5+ recalls.

3 recalls, side airbag inflatable curtain, steering wheel wiring, reprogram occupant restraint control module. contacted local dealer months ago; said they would call with an appointment time, as soon as they received the parts, i'm still waiting for the call- dealer was scranton dodge.
