My truck failed the state inspection because 2 exhaust manifold bolts on the passenger side had broken off and were inside the cylinder head with no way to get them out. i had the truck towed to a mechanic upon discovering how deep they had broken off with no success at removing the first one and the mechanic was also unable to remove them. they have now been drilled out by the mechanic which created a coolant leak out of one of the bolt holes and it looks like i'll need a new cylinder head. i've read it's a common issue and now i'm expecting the drivers side to do the same any time if they aren't broken already.
While starting my vehicle in the morning, in neutral idle, a clicking sound was coming from under the engine on the driver side. the clicking sound increased as i accelerated the vehicle. once i pulled over and investigated and found the noise coming from the manifold bolts that have broken/sheared off. noticed bolts on passenger and driver side are broken.
Most of 2013 ram 5.7 liter engine has a valve train premature wear resulting on a loud ticking engine noise from worn out camshaft most vehicles barely over warranty
Rear-most passenger side exhaust manifold bolt broke; it sheared off at the heat shield, causing a loud tick-like noise emitting from area. additionally, exhaust fumes enter into the cabin as a result of this. this is the second time an exhaust manifold bolt has broken (sheared off) on my truck; the first time it was under warranty; now, the repair price quote is approx $800 because of the expected time to remove the broken bolt. this is a common issue among ram 5.7l v8-powered trucks. it is a safety issue due to exhaust fumes entering the cabin, and a quality defect arising from poor quality components and/or improper torquing of the bolts during assembly. fca needs to issue a recall for this! the old saying, "if you take care of your vehicle, it will last" is not true for ram trucks because of poor quality control, subpar part quality and improper assembly.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. the contact stated that the vehicle leaked enough oil on the ground to start a fire. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but they could not assist. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 120,000. the vin was unknown.
Truck has 66k miles and oil changes done regularly. valve seat dropped into cylinder causing piston to seize. new engine needed as a result.
Broken exhaust manifold bolts that were causing an exhaust leak
While driving down the highway, my motor suddenly began making a loud ticking sound, followed by a change in performance, forcing me to quickly change lanes in heavy traffic and get into the breakdown lane and stop.
Cam shaft lifter failure. read where this is common problem. safety issue on highway.
Purchase my ram 1500 with the 5.7 in late 2014. i have put approx 78k miles on my truck and notices a clicking /knocking noise and loss of oil pressure intermittently. after have my mechanic look it over, the motor is having cam and lifter problems. this seems to be a common issue online . in fact, i now noticed several other ram trucks driving by me in parking lots, or at stop lights that have a faint version of what i am experiencing. i started noticing this i little upon startup only and then it became so bad out of the blue that my truck started running bad as it got loud enough to hear from in the cab. now its sees i will be out a bunch of money to replace the engine
The engine has a ticking noise on the passenger side of the engine. it starts off very loud, then smoothed out while idling. if driving and accelerating the ticking is loud enough to hear it inside the truck. it is getting louder and louder. i have service done regularly but cannot identify the problem. has this happened with other similar trucks? the truck is in perfect condition minus this tick? any suggestions?
Truck start driving back and hiccuping causeing the truck to jerk and almost causeing a crash check engine light and p0305 code cylinder 5 misfire changed spark plugs and coil pack still same problem
Engine check, traction control, anti-skid lights comes on with a message throttle control requires service. the engine losses all power or stalls making vehicle difficult to control, stop and get out of traffic. i have replaced the throttle control while the check engine light was on , it did not correct the problem. after the truck sits for a day or two all problems clear. 4-23-2019 is my third incident in 4 months.
Ticking noise from engine at start up
Oil light never came on to indicate that my truck was low on oil now my engine is blown and i can't drive my truck anymore and i still owe $20,000 on it. my wife was driving the truck when it happened.
The lifters seats are made of plastic and they're known by chrysler to fail resulting in internal engine damage. there are over 1000 concerns posted about this issue with the 5.7l hemi and the parts have been on back order for over 1 year period. dealership to correct the issue are asking customers to pay 7 - 10k dollars for a known design flaw
I had a check engine fault and was told that the cam and lifters have failed on my ram 1500 5.7 hemi with 62141 miles on it. i use this vehicle for highway travel at 65 to 75 mph with no severe driving and have the oil/filter changed at the dealership between 3,000 and 4,000 miles. dealership had trouble finding the problem and it is out of waranty so will be stuck with a $4,000 bill to replace cam/lifters and still have a motor with potential problems as whatever metal was worn off is circultating through the system. known problem with no resolution from manufacturer.
Loss of power and hesitation accompanied by the engine light led me to bringing my truck into the dealer. at first i assumed it was another sensor but after 3 days of investigating the real problem was found to be the lifters and cam shaft. much like many many of complaints i've seen on this and other forums. and much like them i had to wait for it to be repaired, wasn't under warranty and cost me over $4k with no promise that it won't happen again. please tell me and so many others with this same exact issue why there hasn't been a [xxx] recall with this!? parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost power. the contact pulled the vehicle over and had it towed to champion of decatur, inc. (3831 us-31, decatur, al 35603, (256) 351-8787) where it was diagnosed that the power control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the electronic stability control was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired again. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was 82,000.
I took my truck in to get looked at january 2019 they thought it was the manifold or lifters so they replaced the manifold and that was not it found out that it was the lifters they tried ordering lifters for my truck and they were not able to get them because they were on back order so i had to replace the motor with a used motor i talked with somebody a dodge and they were not even willing to help me out so i had to pay out of pocket for the whole thing not a very happy dodge customer but obviously with lifters being on a back order tells me that my truck is not the only one i believe there should be a recall or something done about this
Exhaust manifold bolts broken on driver and passenger side of 2013 5.7 liter hemi motor. two different metals are used expanding at different rates causing manifold to warp and snap bolts. if googled you will see how common. i believe this can result in exhaust entering the cab.
Upon starting vehicle made loud ticking noise, and was running a bit rough, next morning again started the truck and it was making ticking noise but now was losing horsepower so we had truck towed to shop thinking could be something easy, truck maintenance maybe. mechanic stated the c clip on the lifter had broken and the truck was utilizing 7 cylinders and not 8. mechanic stated he couldn't pin point a cause for this to have happened, but the repair would be costly. unfortunately we are not under any warranty of any kind, i was looking on the internet to see if this was under recall or if there was a reasonable cause for this type of breakdown however found that many on the 2013 engines are experiencing this same issue. i have not yet contacted chrysler and based upon what i have read in countless forums, chrysler's not standing by the product anyway, so i decided to file this complaint instead, i'm not sure if filing this complaint will change chrysler's view of the defective engines or not but something needs to happen, thus far no lives have been taken however if this were to happen while driving on the interstate above 50 mph and the engine looses power or shuts down as our vehicle did it could easily cause loss of life. this in my opinion is a safety issues not only for the person driving vehicles with these defective engines but to others on the road with them.
Some of the bolts on the exhaust manifold have broken.
Exhaust manifold bolts broken. i had 2 broken bolts on the passenger side and 1 on the driver side. this caused a ticking noise upon start up that would then go away after the engine warmed up. no regularly scheduled maintenance would have prevented this from happening and has to be a faulty part/design with the 5.7l v8 hemi. issue has been complained about on truck forums dating all the way back to 2008 models. service for this repair was not covered under warranty due to age of the truck and mileage 114,800.
The bolts or studs that hold the exhaust manifold to the engine broke or sheared off. this presents a break in the ability of the engine to safely transport exhaust gases to the rear of the vehicle. exhaust gases are now introduced to the engine compartment and the passenger cabin of the vehicle. exhaust could be smelled in the cabin to the vehicle at start up which means that carbon monoxide could be introduced to the cabin. this is a serious safety issue. secondly, with a exhaust leak occurring at the engine block, exhaust gases are bypassing the pollution control equipment which may be a epa issue. referencing complaints on the internet this is a very common problem.
Exhaust manifold bolts broke causing an exhaust leak and a ticking noise. the ticking noise was heard at start up. this is a known problem on the hemi engines.
Hydraulic lifter failed in 5.7l hemi v8 engine, causing damage to camshaft lobe. vehicle undriveable. lifter (part) back ordered from factory for 1-2 months. this part failure is all over the internet, in ram/chrysler forums and car repair websites. nhtsa needs to look into a recall. fca is not standing by customers. in my case, they refuse to even provide rental assistance during the 1-2 month repair period, when my truck is torn apart sitting at their dealer.
When parking i get error 'vehicle not in park' and engine will not shut off. seems stuck and until you put it in reverse, then drive, then park multiple times it will allow you to shut the engine off. everytime i try and park and i am stationary for the past month.
5.7l hemi broken exhaust bolts and warped exhaust manifold . alowing exhaust to excape and enter the cab of the truck . was told unsafe to drive till fixed . 3 mos out of warranty . 56000 miles .truck now sits as i cannot afford to fix the problem and its unsafe to drive . was getting bad headaches driving the truck since sitting i have had no more headaches.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while the vehicle was parked with the engine running, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the engine compartment. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to york gary autoplex (1420 leslie st, nashville, ar 71852, (877) 809-4344) where it was diagnosed that the lifter on the motor collapsed and the camshaft needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that parts were not available. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
While driving vehicle at 55 mph, engine shutdown. towed to mechanic. valve spring broke, bent push rod and piston damaged. had to have total engine replacement. 98500 miles on well maintained engine. no help from chrysler at 3 months out of warranty.
Driving vehicle when digital instrument cluster went black and engine stopped total loss of braking and steering assist. loss of control of vehicle which rolled to stop. no collision or damage to vehicle. vehicle restarts and driveable no digital information displayed. dealer says digital instrument cluster failure. concern definite safety risk if happened in traffic or when turning or stopping. did the failure of the digital instrument cluster kill the engine or did something else kill the engine and the cluster. if the vehicle is driveable is it safe to drive or can expect repeat of same incident?
July 14, 2018 my check engine light came on. i was getting hesitation going uphill. i first took it to a local shop who replaced o2 sensor and all spark plugs at the cost of 800.00, 5 miles down the road check engine light back on same code p219a. took it back said everything tested fine. second shop replaced upward and downward sensors 1100.00. 5 miles later same check engine code. third shop said the couldnt find anything to pick it up 200.00. i took it to dealer. at this point bad gas mileage and hesitaion...they kept it two months and stated they had chrysler engineers in the field helping them. finally 8 weeks later, i was told the only thin they think it could be was wiring harness. 1400.00 but cant promise that will fix it. ive replaced throttle body and numerous parts totaling approx. 3500.00. light still on. driving back it died! dead! throttle body control module sensor error was showing on dash. died while driving. towed it to the dealer i got it from. now they are saying 3700.00 to fix it. camshaft and lifters not only that ..so many have this problem parts are on backorder for 3-6 months! that will be a year without being able to drive my truck. its been in the shop 3 weeks now waiting on parts! why has this not been recalled by chrysler? that many vehicles waiting is a problem! i had the truck a year and 4 months when this happned. mileage 130,000
Truck died in traffic shortly after light turned green accelerating through an intersection.
Takata recall hi i have a 2013 ram 1500 and it seems the exhaust manifold bolt heads are broken and the manifold is leaking it makes a loud ticking nose and in my research it seems like it happens to most if not all ram 1500 so i was wondering why this is not a recall and if it could be i believe it is due to the kind of bolts and or the different metals from the engine block to the manifold and also from the heating up of the engine and then cooling the metal just brakes
Recently had my truck in for routine service and the technician diagnosed my truck with broken exhaust manifold bolts. truck has 79,000 miles on it. after researching on line i have discovered this is a common problem. is there an investigation regarding this issue and a possible recall since it happens so often? the truck makes a ticking sound when it is started and gradually gets better as the manifold gets warm.
Exhaust manifolds warp under normal engine temperatures causing manifold mounting bolts to break.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while driving at an unknown speed, the check engine indicator illuminated without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (lithia chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat of anchorage, 9600 old seward hwy, anchorage, ak 99515), but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the coolant bypass valve failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 13v117000 (engine and engine cooling), but the vin was not included in the recall. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall; therefore, he would be responsible for the repair cost. the failure mileage was 63,000.
Exhaust manifold bolts on driver and passenger side of engine breaking. i have replaced 2 bolts on the passenger side and still need to replace one on the driver side of my engine. it started as a light ticking noise and would go away after the engine would heat up, then it had become louder, when i took it to my mechanic he found that i had 3 bolts broken and he was able to get the two on the passenger side out but not the one on the driver side. after doing some research it seems that this is a common issue with the ram engine, but it seems that ram will not take ownership of this issue. i went to my local dealership to see how much it would cost to have them do the initial repair and was quoted $600 to over $2,000 for their problem.
I purchased this truck used and had to replace broken exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head bolts which had sheared off. i had both sides replaced (all bolts with new) and new manifold gaskets. within a year there was the exhaust leak upon startup. i have heard from many hemi v8 owners that this is very common and can affect the ability to pass the required biannual smog check.
When driving the smell of coolant enters ventilation of vehicle. during stationery position no fluid seems to be leaking. however, on further testing around 2500 rpm coolant starts leaking from water pump spraying coolant throughout the hood onto exhaust which can like describe in other 2013 -2017 ram models create a fire hazard..
Truck starting to shake and not be able to accelerate, took it to get check out , replace lifters, cam shaft, getting codes of mis fire in cylinder six, then cylinder four. then cylinder 6 reactivation control performance, then cylinder deactivation system bank 1, oil pressure out of range camshaft advance/ retard disabled. spent. when driving going over pass or incline trucks starts to shake like its going to explode. now it is starting to just die and turn off while driving or at a stop sign.
Rear exhaust manifold mount bolts have sheared off causing the exhaust manifold to leak with potential influx of exhaust fumes into the cabin area
Truck started tapping 4-5 weeks ago. i was advised that it was probably an exhaust manifold leak... to get it fixed at inspection. 5 days ago, truck started skipping and the cil came on. error code po302. mechanic diagnosed as cam lobe failure. the truck has 113,500 miles on it all highway. synthetic oil; plus fuel. based on my research... this is a problem that seems to be prevalent. chrysler should cover this repair. $3500 repair cost for a truck less than 5 years old. unfair to say the least.
There is a electrical connector under the dash that comes loose.. the truck shuts down with no control. will not start cant get out of park to be towed.. total lockout. dealer charged 150 bucks to "fix it" happened again a month later .*bf *tr
Lifters failed at 129,000 miles. car began to misfire in cylinder 5. replaces lifters and still got misfire code and terrible running conditions. it would happen at highway speeds during acceleration from 60mph and above. truck would obviously misfire, vibrate a lot from the engine, check engine light would appear immediately and was almost not drivable. and this only happens randomly. one day it runs fine. then the problem would appear and not go away. it's frustrating and costly and chrysler hasn't revised or addressed the issue at all. parts that were possibly damaged: valves, valve seats, lifters, camshaft, valve springs, rocker arm, pistons, heads.
As soon as i start the engine, a loud ticking noise is coming from the engine. after inspecting it, i have broken exhaust manifold bolt that causes exhaust to exit at the head. the exhaust escapes before it reaches the catalytic converter and the muffler thus causing the loud noise. this is a very common problem with the ram hemi engines. it is commonly known as the "hemi tick". although this has been a widely known issue, ram has not issued a recall.
On 3 separate occasions, while driving and attempting to stop, the engine stalls. a message displays to "put the vehicle in park, to start", but lost power to everything else. twice it allowed me to start from park, the 3rd time it would not start. i put it in park, had my foot on the brake, but it did nothing. i shut if off completely, then turned it back on and it started. additionally, while parked, the driver's side door would not unlock with the keyfob. all other doors unlocked, not the driver's door. i tried several times locking/unlocking, i had to open the rear door and manually pull the lock knob. one other time, while sitting still, the driver's door unlocked itself, when my roommate pulled on the door handle, the door opened and the alarm went off. on another occasion, i was trying to back into my parking space, i went to pull up to straighten out, and the vehicle would not go into drive. i had to shift into park, then back to drive to make it work.
I have had the ram truck in 3 times within 30 days and the dealer cant repair the trouble and have asked me to call chrysler and take it to another dealer. i have done so but im trying to find out any issues with the ecodisel motor. my resale value hsa been cut by 50% or better because of this.
I was at a dealership for service on july 6, 2017 and asked about a ticking noise i was hearing. the service writer explained that the noise was the exhaust manifold. after the mechanic checked he confirmed it was the exhaust manifold. i was told by the service writer that there was a broken bolt and an exhaust leak on both sides. i called fiat chrysler america and they contacted the service writer at the dealership. after the representative spoke to the service writer she told me i should pay the $423 (approx) cost to have it repaired since this was not covered under any other recourse. i was surprised that after i explained that the service writer said this was happening on all ram trucks that they did not have any response other than saying it was my responsibility. the fact that there was a broken bolt and the service writer said it was on all ram trucks that they should address it due to defective materials. i just want them to accept that it is defective materials and fix this issue.
