Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2013 RAM 1500

Two separate occasions, first incident put vehicle into park left running came back to vehicle and it had rolled forward into front of garage. second incident parked turned vehicle off at top of driveway woke up next morning to find vehicle at bottom of the driveway.

My truck failed the state inspection because 2 exhaust manifold bolts on the passenger side had broken off and were inside the cylinder head with no way to get them out. i had the truck towed to a mechanic upon discovering how deep they had broken off with no success at removing the first one and the mechanic was also unable to remove them. they have now been drilled out by the mechanic which created a coolant leak out of one of the bolt holes and it looks like i'll need a new cylinder head. i've read it's a common issue and now i'm expecting the drivers side to do the same any time if they aren't broken already.

Check engine code po850 . dealer states mechatronics valve body needs replacement $2,800. contacted several dealers and professionals and found this is a common problem with this 8 speed transmission

My 2013 dodge ram 1500 tradesman has 47338 miles on it and it went into what they refer to as limp mode while going down the highway at 65 mph the shop said it is a common problem with these trucks but there is no recall on it why. i am now 7 months out of factory warranty even though the low miles there needs to be an investigation into this problem there are way too many complaints on line about this it's not safe driving at 65 or so and have it kick down to 4th gear mechanic can't believe i had this happen with so few of miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while attempting to leave a restaurant, the shifter seized in fourth gear and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to federico chrysler dodge jeep ram (618-254-1000, located at 1875 e edwardsville rd, wood river, il 62095) where the shift solenoid was replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 57,995.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while the vehicle was parked in the driveway on a steep hill, the contact heard a pop noise. the vehicle shifted, rolled backwards, and crashed into a tree. there were no injuries and a police report was filed. the bed of the vehicle was completely damaged. the dealer and manufacturer had not been contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v821000 (power train). the failure mileage was 87,000. the vin was unknown.

I pulled into the driveway behind 2 parked cars. i stopped and put my truck in park and when i took my foot off the brake the truck revved up and went forward, i stepped on the brake to stop the truck, but the brakes failed to stop the truck from running into the 2 cars. as i kept pressing the brake the truck's engine was revving and the tires were burning rubber, i kept pressing the brake and the truck would not stop it was out of control. the truck rammed into both cars pushing one of them into the side of the neighbor's yard. all this happened while the truck was in park. i pulled back to reverse so i could get off the car and when i took my foot off the brake the truck continued revving this time going in reverse, again i kept pressing the brake, but the truck would not stop it was out of control. it went in a half circle going into the neighbor's front yard knocking down a 6 inch wall, some bushes and running into a tree. the truck stopped and turned off by itself after hitting the wall, the bushes and the tree. this incident caused a lot of damage and totaling one of the cars. i don't know what caused the truck to go forward while in park, the brakes not to work and the engine revving up. i believe the parts affected are the brakes, the power train and speed control.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. when the vehicle was turned off, the gear shift moved without the brake pedal being depressed. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per manufacturer recall numbers: t79, t35, and r36 at east carolina chrysler dodge jeep ram fiat (3401 s memorial dr, greenville, nc 27834, 888-848-5262), but they failed to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 46. the vin was not available.

Vehicle shifted out of park while trailer was attached on a hill.

Truck starting to shake and not be able to accelerate, took it to get check out , replace lifters, cam shaft, getting codes of mis fire in cylinder six, then cylinder four. then cylinder 6 reactivation control performance, then cylinder deactivation system bank 1, oil pressure out of range camshaft advance/ retard disabled. spent. when driving going over pass or incline trucks starts to shake like its going to explode. now it is starting to just die and turn off while driving or at a stop sign.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. the contact called the dealer (rick hendrick jeep chrysler dodge ram, 8333 rivers ave, north charleston, sc 29406, (843) 639-5475) several times regarding a recall repair for the brakes and power train. the dealer was unable to provide the part from the manufacturer within a reasonable time frame to receive a recall repair. the manufacturer was contacted to determine when the part would be supplied to the dealer. the vin and recall information were not available. the contact had not experienced a failure.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while driving approximately 70 mph, the pinon nut loosened from the rear of the vehicle, which caused the rear of the vehicle to lock up. in addition, the driveshaft locked up and then fractured in half. the vehicle was towed to patterson chrysler dodge jeep ram (1611 us-259 bus, kilgore, tx 75662) where it was diagnosed that the rear end locked up on the vehicle and needed to be replaced. also, the driveshaft and front and rear u-joints needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 17v821000 (power train) and stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time to repair the vehicle. the dealer (auburn chrysler jeep ram, 1901 grass valley highway, auburn, ca 95603) confirmed that parts were not available to perform the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Brake transmission shift interlock i recently received my latest recall (this recall makes 4 in total since initial purchase of my 2013 ram 1500). this latest recall is t79, and the previous 3 were: t25; r36; r23 all recalls are due to safety related issues on my ram. this latest recall (t79) is the most concerning, because the vehicle can actually roll away while in the park position, without emergency brake engaged. i received recall t79 in early february 2018, and as of today 03/21/18, parts are still not available at my local fca dealership to fix this dangerous safety issue. for this reason my truck stays parked and only has approximately 14,800 miles, and my resale value has greatly been devalued. i do not feel safe behind the wheel of my truck and therefore i do not drive it. i feel i was mislead into believing i was buying a vehicle that was safe and fit to operate on the road, and this has not been the case. my truck is unsafe to operate due to this most recent recall t79, and i feel cheated out of a vehicle that i cannot even operate safely. i emailed fca, and explained to them that i felt i was mislead into purchasing an unsafe vehicle and would like a refund for the purchase price of the vehicle, because it is becoming more apparent to me that i was sold a lemon. there are over 1.5 million trucks out there with this t79 recall and parts, at least in my area, are currently not available, which poses an enormous risk and liability to continue to operate. 4 safety recalls in less than 15,000 miles, and almost 1 for every year of ownership is completely unacceptable. thank you very much, -[xxx] phone [xxx] ('parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).')*j

Truck started tapping 4-5 weeks ago. i was advised that it was probably an exhaust manifold leak... to get it fixed at inspection. 5 days ago, truck started skipping and the cil came on. error code po302. mechanic diagnosed as cam lobe failure. the truck has 113,500 miles on it all highway. synthetic oil; plus fuel. based on my research... this is a problem that seems to be prevalent. chrysler should cover this repair. $3500 repair cost for a truck less than 5 years old. unfair to say the least.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while the vehicle was parked, it rolled over the contact's foot, crashed into a tree in a grocery store parking lot, and struck a concrete pillar. a bystander noticed that the gear shifter had shifted out of park. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the body damage was repaired. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the manufacturer stated that because the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, there would be no segregation. no further assistance was offered. the approximate failure mileage was 22,013. *tt

As soon as i start the engine, a loud ticking noise is coming from the engine. after inspecting it, i have broken exhaust manifold bolt that causes exhaust to exit at the head. the exhaust escapes before it reaches the catalytic converter and the muffler thus causing the loud noise. this is a very common problem with the ram hemi engines. it is commonly known as the "hemi tick". although this has been a widely known issue, ram has not issued a recall.

I was a passanger in the truck driving down the road and we turned right .. the truck slipped out of gear .. i heard the truck rev up cause the driver had his foot on the gas as nothing had happened .. both his hands were on the steering wheel so at no time did he turn the dial shifting gears .. the transmission did that mysteriously on its own .. when it did happen i looked at the shifter indicator light and it said it was in park .: we were doing about 15 miles a hour so no way was it in park ! at that point the driver tuned the dial shifter back to drive and it went back into gear .. this truck has only 16,000 miles on it .. it'd still brand new .. the driver told me it's happened before and he worried he will be on the highway doing 55 mph when it does causing a accident . this is probably some sort of computer problem since these new trucks have transmissiions that are run by computer and not the manual shifter cable like the old days .. of course the dealer denied anything has haopend and blamed the driver .. as in most car manufacturer recalls,,, it takes several people to die from accidents before they admit there is a problem . this dodge ram truck slipping out of gear is a problem as you can look it up on the internet and see all the people that have had it happen.

I have a dodge ram 15000 crew cab laramie. both tail lights are malfunctioning in the blinkers. when i turn the blinker on it blinks really fast and says the tail lights are bad and need to be replaced. the lights in the back are half out when this happens. it does not happen all the time. i did see there was a recall, but for my vin there is not. so it appears all 2013s seem to be affected. i also have a ticking noise in my engine when i start the vehicle. it lessens as the car warms up. i noticed there was a recall in 2012 for bad exhaust manifolds. i believe this is still occurring on these vehicles. i have not repaired either of the items on my truck because i believe it is just malfunctioning. i don't recall how long its been occurring but at least for over a year.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while the vehicle was on and in the park position, it independently reversed out of the driveway and crashed into a tree. there were no injuries sustained. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 52,184.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. when the vehicle was shifted into park, it rolled away independently without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure could not be replicated. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

Dodge ram 1500 key fob will not start the vehicle. the fob is not reliable, as it has failed yearly since we owned the vehicle. we fear that failure to start poses a safety hazard, as the vehicle could not be removed from a dangerous situation if it stalls.

During december 2016 and january 2017, a recurring safety issue occurred. while at a stop light twice, the truck surged without warning (while the driver's foot was on the brake) or while in motion, slipped into another gear on several occasions. given the safety concern, on february 4, 2017 we took the truck to the mechanic who replaced the faulty part related to the gear shift knob issue.

Vehicle was parked on a slight incline and in park. parking brake not engaged. unloading groceries with rt rear door open. the truck rolled backwards about 1.5 feet then stopped. this truck has the column shifter. noticed complaints concerning rotary shifter. however, it rolled on its own while the shifter was in park position. temperature was around 25 degrees and clear. left tires were on dry pavement. right tires on snow. truck did not slide as it left very noticeable tire tracks.. first time we have experienced this issue. now we are very leary of the truck rolling unattended... thanks

On 12/7/16, a desolate, straight, country road, i stopped my truck to investigate damage from a deer that had run into the driver's fender while i was driving about 25 mph. even though i placed the truck in park after my stop (to make it stationary), the ram started moving as i attempted to exit its cabin; and then it drove for about 300 feet at idle speed down the road, where it stopped in a shallow drainage ditch. meanwhile, the ram's "self-driving" mode had caused me to slip on the running board and to fall very hard to the ground (a distance of at least 22 inches). the results: pain, hand and knee cuts, extreme bruising and swelling of the entire left leg, and bruising and swelling of the lower right leg. these required some medical attention. fortunately, there were no blood clots, no broken bones, no dislocated limbs, nor run-over limbs! i was very lucky!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. after the vehicle was shifted into park, the vehicle independently rolled over an incline and crashed into a tree. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. there were no injuries. the failure mileage was approximately 57,000.

The truck shifted it self into gear while running it was in park i got out and walked away once i was 50' away i heard the truck shift and turned just in time to see it start rolling away. once i recovered my truck from the bottom of the hill i though maybe i left it in gear and got out unlikely i have owned the truck for three years. i attempted to see if it would repeat i could not get it to sit on my driveway in gear with out rolling away immediately while in gear. my drive way is steep and this did considerable damage to the truck and property. the truck shifted itself in to gear once before when i first purchased the truck but at the time i wrote it off to my confusion with the dial shifter and the truck only went a few feet into a curb block. now that this has happened i reconsidered. i will not be letting my truck run any more without me behind the wheel.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while the vehicle was parked, it began to roll away. the key was not inside the ignition when the failure occurred. the vehicle collided into a light pole. a police report was filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was towed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 37,780.

Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. the contact received a recall notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v796000 (power train) and 15v313000 (air bags); however, the parts needed to repair the vehicle were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Vehicle has severe vibration that started at approximately 22,000 miles. vibration has gotten so bad that at speeds in excess of 65 mph if you hit a bump in the road the vehicle will switch lanes on it's on and you must slam on the brakes to regain control. i took vehicle to dealership and was told that the drive shaft was warped and not covered under warranty as it appears something had impacted it. i took the vehicle to another shop where they inspected the drive shaft and stated it may be warped but it has not had an impact of any type. i tried to resolve this issue with chrysler motor company and they stated that my vehicle is no longer under warranty when i have only had i purchased it new 30 months ago and it only had 25,600 miles on it when i took it in under my 36 month, 36,000 mile warranty. they are more than happy to fix it for a huge fee, but not under warranty. i am to the point to where i am going to trade the vehicle in, do to the safety concerns and i will never purchase another chrysler product, nor endorse the purchase of one. customer service and satisfaction is not their goal and they could care less if their product was to kill or seriously injure someone.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while the vehicle was parked on an incline in the driveway, it began to roll back. the rear driver side tire rotated while the vehicle was rolling back. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed. the technician stated that when the vehicle was in park, only one of the wheels would lock. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 38,500. updated 03/16/16*lj *cn

I rear ended a semi that was parked on the side of the road. i was going approximately 51 miles per hour. no airbag's deployed, but the front of my vehicle was destroyed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while in park, the driver exited the vehicle. moments later, the vehicle erroneously drove forward. the front passenger had to turn the ignition key in order to shut the vehicle off. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 20,000.

On three separate occasions the vehicle's transmission suddenly began emitting a loud grinding type noise, it stopped pulling forward, and completely stalled in the roadway. after i parked along the side of the roadway and placed the gear shift in park, then back in drive, the vehicle slowly started to pull forward again emitting the loud grinding type noise. fortunately, i wasn't traveling at a faster speed or on the freeway with heavy traffic when the malfunctions occurred. i could have been seriously injured in a collision because if appeared as though the transmission was going to fall out of the vehicle. i have carried the vehicle in the dealership for repair on each occasion to no avail.

Has occurred 3 times within 30 days. at low speeds between 15mph and 35mph, engine stops, gauges go dead and aprox 6 seconds later the transmission slams into park. 1st time it happened i was lightly breaking & coasting for a stop light; 2nd time i was cruising about 35mph; and 3rd time i was accelerating from a dead stop across 4 lanes of traffic. the transmission going into park after the engine and electrical system went dead reminds me of when you turn the ignition off without first putting it into park - when this happens, a few seconds later, the transmission automatically shifts into the park position. i had at least 1/2 tank of gas each occurrence. i notified the dealership on 1/14/15, dealership says there are no recalls and that i would have to wait 2 weeks before they can check out the problem, which i consider serious. additional electrical info that may or may not be related: the infotainment system frequently malfunctions - the play list for songs duplicates in the listing, songs repeat two to three times, sd card selection stops working, sd card selection all of a sudden stops recognizing the sd card. the infotainment center has also completely restarted as if it was rebooting. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ram 1500. while driving at low speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate without warning. once the vehicle reached a certain speed, the vehicle jerked forward and accelerated. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed nor repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v459000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 1,000. parts distribution disconnect.

First problem. after locking truck the instrument panel lights and gauges continue to flash and gauges flicker. this goes on for about 10 mins or so. dealer cant find problem. second problem is transmission. when coming to a stop and the truck has stopped moving you get a bump from transmission. once again dealer no help. been going on for 2 yrs.

2013 dodge ram 1500. consumer writes in regards to transmission shifts hard, tire balance issues, clock, ignition malfunction and other mechanic problems. *smd the consumer stated the clock and ignition switch were repaired. the upper ball joints failed. the dealer offered to assist with repairs for the tires, but the consumer declined. the consumer requested to be reimbursed for repairs made,to be advised about warranties, and a replacement vehicle. updated 10/10/2017*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 dodge ram 1500. after the vehicle was serviced under a manufacturer's recall for the air bags, there was an abnormal noise coming from the area of the dashboard near the air bags. the failure occurred while the vehicle on or off. the contacted also indicated that while the gear was in drive, the gear randomly switched over to neutral without warning. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.

When backing up in reverse and shifting into drive the "d" light on the dash and shifter knob flashes on and off. when this happens pressing the accelerator revs the engine up as if in neutral and the vehicle continues to roll backwards. the first time it happened it caught me totally by surprise and because i was on a steep hill my truck rolled backwards into the moving truck waiting for me to pull out. once i rolled backwards into a garage before i could stop it.luckily for everybody concerned the garage door was open. another time i rolled over a curb in a parking lot into a bush. many times just pulling out of a parking spot has caused the problem. the transmission has been replaced as has the shifter knob. it has happened many times and continues to be a problem. the dealership has been helpful in trying to figure it out and has verified the problem exists. as they have been unable to fix it they have been relying on chrysler technical assist (star case). chrysler's last response was the brake should always be firmly pressed while shifting "this is a built in safety feature and normal vehicle operation"???. how can a 6000lb truck rolling backwards with the driver expecting it to go forwards be "normal vehicle operation"? i have gone from park to drive and the "d" light will flash. but when this happens the transmission "locks" and even though the the truck revs just like the other situation it doesn't move. it just stays put in the same place. this i would consider "normal vehicle operation". one day when this rolling situation happens there is going to be somebody behind me and someone is going to get seriously hurt. i cannot get chrysler to do anything about this. i have told them over and over about my safety concerns and about already running into another truck and all they can say is "we understand your concerns but your problem is normal" . updated 03/01/16*lj updated 11/01/2017*cn

My truck rolled down a hill while in park through my garage and was stopped my rolling into my tractor. my truck was less than a year old and almost totaled. plus i was hurt trying to jump into the truck to get to the brakes as it was rolling

I had problems prior to april 2014 but i am just using a time frame when chrysler got involved. in 2013 and 2014 my dodge ram would have the cluster panel come on with air bag service needed first and then the remaining lights would come on to include engine light while simultaneously the windshield wipers would come on. when i took it in to the dealer they tried to repair the problem to include resetting the computer. over time i would lose my power steering and power brakes. fortunately i was going into a parking area when i lost the power brakes otherwise i'm sure i would have crashed since i did not expect the change. as of late the truck will not start or the radio won't go off. chrysler has really done nothing to resolve this problem and maybe i will need to crash first before something is done or run over someone when i lose my brakes. this is a problem since i purchased the truck. the truck is dangerous to drive since i never know when the electronics will quit on me. over the last 10 days the truck wouldn't start at all two (2) times and all the lights and windshield wipers have come on at least three (3) times. i have not lost my brakes lately, but that is just a matter of time. i want to make this public because i know i will be held responsible if something happens, and it will. i have never had a vehicle do this and i'm just afraid someone will be killed if i should lose my brakes and steering while on the highway. chrysler can be proactive or reactive. i think that i have been paying for a truck that will ultimately kill someone. i've tried to contact nhtsa by phone but the only thing there is that you leave a message and hope they will call back. since the problems iterated above seem to have increased it's probably time to park the truck. *tr

Found a hole in my stock muffler. it appears that a spot weld broke or the muffler rusted through. as a result of the hole co will leak out under my vehicle bed then will eventually fill my cab up if the vehicle is running in the parked position. *tr

A few weeks earlier i heard a horrible grinding noise from my transmission while driving at 30-35 mph. i took it into the dealer and they could not duplicate the problem and inspected my vehicle stating that there were no leaks, fluid was fine and transmission was in good shape. i then got my vehicle back after 18 business days in the shop and i heard the grinding again (950 miles later). i got under my truck to look and found that my hydraulic cooler lines were leaking and my transmission looked like it had 200,000 miles on it. this is very strange because i have no documented work on my transmission and it went 19793 miles with no leaks and randomly started to leak?? *tr

One day i was backing out of a parking space and when i turned the shift knob on my 8-speed auto transmission v-6 from "reverse" to "drive" the gear would not engage. when i applied my foot to the accelerator the rpm's increased as if i were in neutral. during this occurrence the "d" on the shift knob was blinking. after turning the knob back to park and then back to drive the transmission engaged and i was able to pull away and drive normally. on a different day about 2 weeks later i noticed that while in "drive" and traveling between 15mph and 30mph my transmission seemed to be in the wrong gear. i would apply the accelerator and the rpm's would increase upwards to 2500 - 3500rpms which should not be happening at such low speeds. my truck then began to shutter as it was trying to find the right gear. this truck is a 2013 with less than 1000 miles on it. i have read a similar post on this nhtsa website about this same vehicle. i have also read an article posted on motortrend.com that references a transmission recall for various 2013 chrysler vehicles' including the ram 1500 with 8-speed automatics and a six-cylinder engine. strangely, when i look up recall notices for this vehicle there is no recall alert for this problem. *tr

Driving truck in town approx 35 - 40 mph. can give exact detail / location. vehicle transmission in "drive". vehicle has center consul. as vehicle was climbing gradual hill, transmission automatically downshifted. vehicle immediately went to full throttle uncontrollably. engine rpm jumped to 6k - 7k. vehicle speed still increasing. stepped on gas pedal several times thinking it was stuck with no effect - rpm remained constant. then put both feet on brake pedal - rpm remained constant. then shifted transmission into neutral position. check etc / red lightning bolt message now on in message center located between tach & speedometer. rpm's now at a constant 4k with vehicle in neutral and coasting. no place to turn off without blocking traffic. stopped at lighted intersection - vehicle still at 4k rpm. shifted back into "drive", tires chirped and truck lunged forward still at 4k rpm. parked vehicle in safe place adjacent to gas station and shut off - transmission still either in gear or neutral. engine off - shifted into "park". waited 3-4 minutes and attempted to restart vehicle. engine icon, ect icon and red steering wheel with explanation point icon where all on. vehicle cranked, but acted like no fuel / spark and would not start. vehicle towed to dealership on flatbed. no word back from dealer yet. mileage 5,443 - mostly highway. note: no floor mats just factory rug and cruise control was not "on" or in use in any way. only modifications to vehicle are the addition of a spray bed-liner and topper. i was born and raised around cars and have good mechanical ability including ground-up restorations of pre 1970 vehicles. this is a real and tangible example of a 2013 dodge ram 1500 4x4 bighorn with unintended acceleration. this is unacceptable for any vehicle, but especially for a new, $46,000 vehicle. i am lucky that i did not hurt anyone or end up dead. *tr

01/08/14. upon start up it was stuck in 4th gear. would not come out of 4th gear. it set an engine light. dealer did a "flash update" on 01/09/14. was fine until 02/11/14 and did it again,(would not come out of 4th gear). this time, shutting it off and restarting it (twice) reset it and it came out of 4th gear. *tr

After driving on snow and slushy roads i couldn't get the vehicle to shift into the reverse or park position. i couldn't even move the selector into those positions. *tr

2013 dodge ram. consumer writes in regards to vehicle rear differential failure. *smd the consumer stated while driving, the left rear wheel locked up. the rear axle sheared off, and the brake caliper broke off, at that point the vehicle had no brakes. the wheel and tire were punctured by the caliper bracket, and went into an uncontrollable spin. the vehicle finally came to an abrupt stop against the freeway cement center divider. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the consumer believed that some gears either in the rear differential or transfer case broke before the axle sheared off of the vehicle. according to the technician, the transfer case was noisy and locking up, the transmission was also noisy and not functioning properly. he also stated the rear differential was making a howling noise and had extensive vibration. the technician believed the damage to the vehicle was caused by some type of gear failure. the broken axle showed stress fractures/cracks due to possible metal fatigue. the dealer stated the damage to the vehicle was caused by the driver.
