Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2012 RAM 1500

I have a 2012 dodge ram 1500 that was purchased brand new. the truck shuts off while driving on the streets or turning and sometimes while at a complete stop. it started a couple years ago but has gotten worse. this is very dangerous. i put my vin # in and there is no recall which there should be after reading there are hundreds of customers that's having the same problems. i would like this problem to be fixed without myself having to pay for this. very very disappointed in this truck.

I have had my vehicle to lose all power (power steering, anti lock brakes, and seatbelt function) due to a bag ignition switch. this happened while driving 70 mph down the interstate. i noticed all my dash light came on and my vehicle had completely powered off leaving me with no power steering and no anti lock brakes. luckily i was on straight enough road to only run off the road once i slowed down. iafter hitting a ditch i noticed my seatbelt did not lock causing me to slightly bump my head. i wasn't hurt but this has to be a issue. it has worked properly since then but did the same thing on a later date while driving in town.

Tamara recall- so on june of 2017 i was driving from texas to colorado. i was at the passing by trinidad, co when the truck just gave out going up the hill. it literally left me stranded in the middle of the hill while cars wer driving by 70 miles an hour. m and m towing towed it to trinidad and they informed me the transfer case was bad and so was the right front drive shaft. i paid 2500 dollars to have that repaired. well now since september of 2012 the truck keeps giving me problems. it turns off literally while i'm driving making me loose any steering or break power. the heating seats have stopped working, the traction light keeps turning off and on. the light trailer disconnected message is permanently on. the shifter won't move outta park almost everyday when i first start the truck. the truck turns on and immediately shutts off. the remote start only works half of the time. i was just informed the exhaust manifold is cracked and that the rfront differential is bad too. at this point the truck isn't even dribble unless i spend like 5000 in fixing it. bit how if i'm making 700 payment monthly. the truck is plain and simple falling apart and i have only had it for a year and a half. what worries me the most that it turns completely off without notice or warning while i'm driving with my kids in the truck

My vehicle is covered under the settlement imposed against fiat chrysler to offer buyback option to owner based on purchase price minus reasonable depreciation. however, my dealer, fiat chrysler, buyback hotlines, and everyone i have contacted are passing the buck and no one seems to know anything about this buyback program. i have been working on this for 18 months. i am about to go meet with a service dept. manager this morning, after receiving more ignorance and "i don't know anything about it's" yesterday. frustrating. there are steering issues, electrical issues, and power train concerns., and if someone gets hurt in the meantime while i am having to navigate this mess, i will own fiat chrysler, nhtsa, and will take over the buyback number and turn it into a pizza delivery call center. thank you

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. in addition, the rear camera appeared on while driving. while the vehicle was parked, the gear indicators illuminated green, but the reverse gear illuminated red. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

I will be driving down the road and all of the sudden i lose power and the truck dies. when that happens i lose control of the steering wheel and it is very difficult to pull over to safety.this happens often and at anytime no matter if i'm on a city street or highway. it seems to have an effect on my ignition and 4-wheel drive

I got into the cab of my truck and it smelled wet. i looked up at head liner and saw that it was water stained. i looked on dodgeramforum and saw that others had experienced this. most suspected the third brake light above the rear windshield to be leaky. i removed the third light from my vehicle. it was wet and the bulb blown out. i stuck my hand into the space between the outer and inner shells of the cab and it was wet. i took the assembly to lodi cdjr, who told me the gasket was defective. they were selling the replacement assembly at $22.70 so that people could quickly make the repair. recall? no. somewhere i learned that several year models were affected, including my other vehicle, a 2014 dodge ram express. so i bought another replacement assembly to install on it. i asked if they would cover the cost. he said they would get back to me, but never did. a few weeks later, i opened the glove box of the 2012 truck and noticed that there was rust on some of my papers. i looked up into the glove box and saw rusted wires. i think the water drained from the top of the cab into the front of the firewall and soaked the circuitry. cruise control, my passenger window, other things don't function properly at all times. i have not taken it in to be evaluated as i fear they might just make it worse. the new light assembly has stopped any further leakage. it does not appear that my 2014 sustained water damage due to the faulty light gasket. 2014 dodge ram express vin: (xxxxx). i will file a separate complaint on this vehicle if you direct me to. but at this time i think i caught it before damage occurred. i reported this to dodge customer assistance center, who assigned this reference number to it: 57938794. it is the same reference number on another complaint i have submitted to you: 11173399 parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Headlight flickering while driving at night on way home from work dealer said was faulty tipm module

After towing a boat, the engine died & underwent major warranteed repair in 2016. also in 2016 the following occured: the ac stopped working, battery was replaced but vehicle has died 3 times since repaired & new battery. my 2007 ram 1500 quad also lost ac after 5 years. the last time battery died, so did the dealer installed alarm system. it's fine for 2-3 months then dies.

4x4 service light and abs light comes on and off. grinding sound in low gear 5 to 10 mph.

Tipm issues with my vehicle have cause it to turn off several times in traffic and made it inoperable. i took it to the dealership who charged me $1200 to fix the issue, and after driving 2 miles up the road the same issue happened again. as i was sitting in the middle of traffic waiting on the tow truck to arrive i did a quick google search and found that this is a known issue with chrysler vehicles and they refuse to do anything about it.

Truck shutting off at random driving down the road needing to restart engine. you hit a bump and truck shuts off very dangerous life treating. manifold bolts have snapped off into engine. truck shifts to 4th gear at random causing a jerr and skid of back tires could cause loss of control which could lead to death or injury

Turned the key and my windshield wipers turned on, interior lights kept blinked off and on and there was clicking noises coming from the fuse box/tipm module until it killed the battery. the key would not come out of ignition easily. i recharged the battery, performed a tipm reset and has the same results indicating the tipm failure as the cause

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact had to push the vehicle to a safe place the contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic control module or a relay on the actual tipm may have failed. the dealer was not able to identify the exact issue, but determined that the tipm needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 148,560. updated 05/02/17*lj

My vehicle started acting up a few times when i would go to start the vehicle, the engine would turn over and then stall out. i thought it was strange, but continued to drive it. while driving down an ice and snow packed road in the middle of traffic my vehicle stalled out; lost all power steering, brakes locked up, lights shut off, and i almost ended up rear-ending the car in front of me going 45 mph. i pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road and was able to get it started again. since then i have taken it to the car dealership and they told me the win module needed replaced along with the key fob ($725) that was not covered under my warranty. upon further investigation i see this is a common problem. i called chrysler headquarters and they told me that there was nothing they could do about it. this is a serious issue and needs a recall! it has done it several more times while driving. i have no other choice but to drive the vehicle due to it being my only means of transport. something needs to be done about this. i've had the truck less than a year.

My dodge ram 1500 2012 has, per the dealer, a faulty total integrated power module (tipm). i am experiencing electrical problems with my door locks, brake lights, and remote start. the problems occur at all times of vehicle operation. this is an extremely common problem that costs consumers >$1000 to repair, and not been recalled.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. the contact stated that he repeatedly experienced a failure with the exterior lighting. when the low beams cut off, it disabled the high beam light on the passenger side. the contact replaced the headlight bulbs a couple of times, but each time the failure recurred within two weeks. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (humes chrysler in waterford, pa, 814-796-2666) where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 58,000. the vin was not provided. updated 11/01/17*lj updated 7/19/18*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram ram 1500. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact coasted to the side of the road, restarted the vehicle, and resumed driving. the failure recurred twice. in addition, when the contact attempted to start the ignition, the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,254.

Takata recall while driving my dodge ram 2012 home from the gym, my truck just completely shut off in the middle of traffic. it started right back up but after about another 100 yards it died again turning into traffic. also it has problem starting every now and again. brought it to the mechanic and they said its the ignition switch which they said the dodges around this year are notorious for this and they have problems with this all the time. after a quick internet search it was easy to see hundreds of people with the same problem. this needs to be fixed before someone gets hurt. *tr

The win mod has an open circuit on it. the vehicle will not start and if it is started stalls out. i can be at a stop or in motion and loose all power to vehicle. yesterday day 11/12/16 while in motion going 70 on the freeway i lost all power. there was a recall on these up to 2010. this problem part is a dealer only part ( and although the part is cheap the labor rate to fux this is terribly insane) so the consumer can't fix this safety hazard

When plugging something into driver side outlet, the truck stalled. if i were in a situation with moving traffic, this could cause an accident. also, little by little the locks and window buttons have started to fail. if i were in a situation where i needed to quickly exit the vehicle or remove my children from the vehicle this could be a safety threat. also, i personally feel unsafe knowing that i could not quickly lock my doors or shut my windows if i were being attacked.

Takata recall truck stalls while driving. was serviced at authorized dealership, they couldn't get it to stall, claimed it was pcm module, replaced, very costly. stalling began again, returned to dealer, was charged for diagnostics and told nothing wrong. truck continues to have major safety issues in stalling. one event with children going down a hill and lost all power to vehicle, could have been very serious. research online finding out common issue in ignition switch/module. concerned why dealership continues to overlook this? i am also seeking reimbursement for the unnecessary services and charges to this vehicle that has not been resolved. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost power, and the contact heard a beeping sound. the failure recurred several times. additionally, the power locks failed to work. the vehicle was taken to all star dodge chrysler jeep ram (11503 st charles rock rd, bridgeton, mo 63044) where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module had shorted out and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided no information. the approximate failure mileage was 101,000.

There is something wrong with the ignition that causes the vehicle die after starting it after trying to start it repeatedly it finally stays started and allows you to drive. however the ignition turns off also while driving. you can be driving down the road or sitting at the stop sign or light and the key disengages turning the truck off. it happens while turning a corner or driving straight. i have to put the truck in neutral while coasting and turn the ignition again sometimes repeatedly. i do have a keyless keyfob and a regular key, even when trying the regular key the ignition will turn off while driving. i have contacted dodge 3 times directly about the issue. the first time i called it happen while i was driving down the highway. i had to turn on my flashers put the vehicle in neutral and tried starting it three times with no breaks and no steering. after not getting it to start i had to coast to the shoulder and continue to try until it started. the customer service agent said there was no recall at the time and there is nothing the can do about it without a recall. i have been investigating this issue further and this is pretty common for the trucks 2009-2012. here is a video i found on youtube about this problem. https://youtu.be/_v4sng432hq please watch this video so you can see first hand the problem. obviously this is a huge liability for dodge if these vehicles just shut off while driving! that can cause an accident and may have already caused many. i am not sure if you are aware but when the vehicle shuts off and loses power the steering becomes stiff and brakes become stiff as well. the vehicle becomes almost inoperable. there were no issues at all with this truck until this problem began about 3 moths ago. i have a friend with the same make model and year vehicle and theirs has the same problem.; date below is a guesstimated date speed ranges

Engine shuts off then restarts itself, also when check 4x4 icon appears, the vehicle will not start, there is a clicking sound, then the vehicle will start. in all instances the vehicle was stationary, either in a parking lot or a gas station getting gas, and this has happened 4 times.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. the contact stated while washing the vehicle, the fan for the air conditioning failed to deactivate. the contact lifted the hood and disconnected the battery in order to deactivate the fan. the battery was reconnected and the relay switch was burned and melted. the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who stated there was an electrical failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

Tipm module not working. 2012 dodge ram with only 34000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. the failure occurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch was faulty and needed replacement. the repairs were completed. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a claim was filed with case number: 30898600. the failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Takata inflators, air bag light comes on after engine is cranked. light stays on as long as engine is running.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. while driving 25 mph, the air bag warning light remained illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer and the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 53,500.

Currently, when getting into vehicle we have been having issues starting the truck. it has even stalled out on us while driving on the interstate. tood to dealership and due to the check engine light not being on they informed us they were unable to do the dionogstic test.

My truck fuel light came on truck sputtered and died in about 30 seconds. luckily i was in a good spot to pull over and stop. i lifted the hood and could smell wires burning. i lifted the fuse box lid and seen the fuses smoking so i pulled one fuse that was the starter solenoid fuse.i was on highway with lots of rock cuts and hills. turns out to be the tipm. this product should be recalled immediately .dealership replaces it for app. 1400.00 and it still never fixed problem. they say it is under warranty and now have to pay for another diagnostics . how much is this going to end up costing. i have no fuel gauge, front windows don't work , wipers work when and how they want, air conditioning turns on by itself, temperature gauge says its 56 degrees celsius outside. doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this one. i think this could have ended up worse but i was driving down a hill and was able to get off the highway on a truck pull off at the bottom. i have bought 5 new dodge trucks over the years and had planned to buy more till now. i hope i can get the problem resolved without breaking the bank. trade it in real soon.

The tipm and fuel relay keep going out in my truck. it causes it to not start or the fuel pump keeps running and drains my battery overnight. i've contacted dodge since they have recalls on other vehicles with the same problem, but they refuse to do anything about it

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that a manufacturer recall notice was received. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who claimed to remedy the failure. upon leaving the dealer, the radio randomly shorted out. the contact was not experiencing any failures until the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 7,800.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that after the vehicle was started, the air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000. update 01/13/16 ma the consumer stated the airbag hasn't come on again. *js

Truck randomly shuts off while driving. all lights on the dash come on, once you get to the side of the road you turn truck off and restart it may run fine for days or a half mile. this can happen going 65mph down the turnpike or stopping at a traffic light in town. i bought the truck with 28k and this issue started around 32k. had it to the dealership and was told "don't know what is causing the problem". my wife refuses to drive it because her and my son nearly got killed when it shut off going thru an intersection. i have read up on this on many forums and there are a lot of people having the same issue. you in fact had done a recall campaign # pe05027 back in 05. there are other models having the same problems. is going to take someone loosing their life for this to get corrected. make a payment of 400.00 dollars a month for a truck that i am afraid to drive. someone please help!!!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ram 1500. the contact stated that the air bag indicator illuminated, which was a safety concern. the vehicle was taken to howard chrysler jeep dodge ram (13250 broadway ext, oklahoma city, ok 73114) where it was determined that the wiring for the air bag indicator needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was also contacted and did not assist. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the air bag indicator twice before, but the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 86,000. *tt *jb

I went to start the truck while in park after having already driven the truck approximately 1 hour prior. upon turning the key in the ignition, i heard a loud explosion of some kind. smoke began appearing from under the hood. the truck did not have any power. i opened the hood of the truck, and found that the battery had catastrophically exploded. two of the plastic sidewalls were completely blown out and ripped open. on one side the lead interior could be seen misshapen and leaning out towards the exposed side. both top caps were blown clear of the battery. battery acid covered the general vicinity of the explosion. the acid also ran down through the undercarriage and onto the pavement.

Ignition issues. hit pot hole or bump and truck will die losing all power. can wiggle key in ignition while truck is running and truck will lose power.

The airbag fault sensor keeps coming on and off. i brought back tot he dealership once and they repaired it but it still comes on every so often but doesn't stay on. i am concerned that there may be an issue with the airbag even after the dealership fixed the issue.

Driving down the road and the wipers stopped working, no visibly at all!!!! turns out its the power control module, aka the fuse box. not the wiper motor, switch etc... no way to predict when it will go. super dangerous!!!

I was driving home from work and the steering wheel started shaking and then the traction light came on. before i could pull into a gas station the vehicle shut off on me. i turned the key and the car would not turnover. i had the vehicle towed to my house for the night and then to my mechanic the next morning. he could not diagnose the problem and that's when i had it towed to the dealer. it took them 2-3 days to diagnose the problem. what they found was a problem with the electrical system. this is how they stated it on the invoice: 29303 no start p0688 asd circuit fault, found fuse m19 blown- replaced and attempted to start- fuse blew again. traced asd circuit. found ignition coil #5 melted. tested further, found #5 spark plugs fouled and circuit k16 shorted to ground. replaced spark plugs, ignition insufficient ionization fault set dia as a pcm with internal driver fault caused by short, replaced and programmed pcm. this of course happened 5 days after my warranty expired, granted i did not even have 30,000 miles on the vehicle at the time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge ram 1500. while driving 20 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the wiring harness was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being available. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 60,000.

The vehicle has shut off numerous times while driving due to a faulty ignition switch.

During 2014/2015 the 2012 dodge ram 1500 would fail to start intermittently especially on colder days. during january of 2015 the problem became more common on a daily basis and would take 10-15 times to start the vehicle. the vehicle was take to dodge under warranty for repair multiple times and according to dodge the starter was replaced and the vehicle would start. after obtaining the vehicle from the dodge repair shop the left head light began to go on and off intermittently. the vehicle was again taking to the dodge service shop for repair under warranty. dodge indicated that it was a faulty tipm and that it was replaced and that the left headlight should work appropriately. after obtaining the truck once again the check engine light came on and returned to the dodge shop where they indicated that it was the transmission sensor which was replaced. several months later the driver's headlight began to go on and off intermittently while driving and sitting still. the dodge was returned to the dodge repair shop who stated that the previous repair was done under warranty and since the vehicle is no longer under warranty they would not cover any repairs even thought they have a 24 month part policy for repairs paid for by the customer. suspected to be a tipm issue.

While traveling down road the vehicle just shut off losing steering and braking was able to put in neutral and get started after several tries of starting and it would shut right back off before it would start and stay running, it has done this numerous times sometimes when first starting vehicle sometimes right after starting and driving off, it has did this several times pulling out of my driveway onto busy highway almost resulting is an accident. it happened to my wife a couple of times the first time she could not get it to start and stay running to get it out of the roadway and had to put the emergency flashers on and leave it setting across the south bound lane of the highway to come back inside to get me to try to get it out of the road. after that incident she was afraid to drive it,took to dealership 02/09/15 got back today 02/10/15 they had to replace ignition switch module at a cost of $286.75 this was a serious safety issue and needs to be looked into and there should be a recall issued for this problem before there is a serious accident resulting in serious injury or a fatality. there was a recall issued for the same problem on the dodge caravan's and dodge journey's with the same type win (wireless ignition node) ignition switch. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge ram 1500. while driving 35 mph and making a turn, there was a delayed response when the accelerator pedal was engaged. the traction control warning light illuminated continuously during the failure. on numerous occasions, the key became stuck in the ignition switch until after repeated attempts. in addition, the gear shifter moved out of gear when slightly touched when driving. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the clock spring would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

My 2012 ram 1500 has been in the shop seven times in the past year for electrical problems. the original problems were related to the pcm which would short out and cause my vehicle to operate in only one gear. this problem was fixed finally by replacing the pcm and various other parts. my truck recently had the engine temperature sensor, right headlight, and fuel pump control go out all around the same time which made it difficult for my truck to start and when it did start it sounded anemic and would often have alerts going off. the dealership claimed that the tipm was the cause of the fuel pump problems and now i am wondering if it is the route of all the other problems. this most recent repair cost me $1000 dollars and well over $100 in alternative transportation arrangements. my truck is only two and a half years old with 50k miles on it. i should not be having this many problems with this new of a vehicle. chrysler and ram have a well documented history of recent problems with the tipm across various vehicles and an investigation needs to be conducted and customers need to be compensated for the problems this part has caused.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the key was loose and causing the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,000. updated 12/17/14*lj the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired by replacing the electronic module. updated 9/29/2015 *js

On july 8, 2014 my 2012 ram 1500 caught fire while parked in my driveway at home. the vehicle was last operated on the evening of july 7, 2014. at approximately noon on july 8, 2014 while working on my computer inside my house i detected the odor of burning plastic. i assume it was initially originating from inside my house. after investigating i walked outside and found that the interior of my truck was on fire. i put out the fire and immediately called the local fire department who responded to ensure that the fire was completely out. i immediately contacted my insurance company in addition to the local dealer, jeff d'amborsio auto group, i spoke with the service manager who in turn contacted his regional manager for guidance. i received a letter date july 10, 2014 from the chrysler customer claims resolution group advising they were in the process of reviewing my file. i was contacted by the resolution group and advised the file was being turned over to a group, isg, for further investigation in resolution. chrysler arranged to have the vehicle towed on july 12, 2014 to the jeff d' ambrosio dealership where a representative from chrysler was to inspect the vehicle. that inspection took place on tuesday, july 15th. the origin of the fire according to the insurance company fire investigator originated in the passenger side door panel and resulted in total damages of $23,000 which the insurance company deemed a total loss. my insurance company settled a claim by paying off the loan balance of $19,500 and submitted a check to me for the excess to cover the value of the vehicle. unfortunately i am not provided results of the investigation performed at the dealership by the representative from chrysler. the case number assigned by chrysler [xxx]. as of today, august 13 i have no resolution directly from chrysler. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
