Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2007 Nissan Xterra

My air bag light says on in the dash and the passenger seat belt dose not show anyone in the seat . my cruse control works some times if i am on the highway it will not work if i shut the car off and then restart it it will work

The fuel gauge goes to empty even when the tank is at least half full; it does same when vehicle is standing idle for a short while too. airbag dash warning light flashing. there are recalls for both these issues, but nissan claims my vin is not included. the date assigned to the "when did this happen" is an approximation.

Getting a blinking airbag light but did not see it on the recall list.

Tl* the contact owned a 2007 nissan xterra. while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact attempted to merge into another lane and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed. the contact sustained injuries that required medical attention. the contact's vehicle was totaled and was towed away by the insurance company. the dealer and the manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was 151,000.

Takata recall

On a fm road, doing approximately 60 mph. frontal impact with a guard rail, went over rail, hit tree. air bags did not deploy. driver hit steering wheel upon impact with guardrail, hit windshield with head when vehicle struck tree. (not wearing seat belt at time of impact.) vehicle has been declared a total loss. we believe the issue is, the airbag sensors.

The front passenger seat airbag sensor that detects if there is a passenger present has been malfunctioning. while driving the sensor in the seat will randomly turn the airbag on and off, whether or not there is a passenger present. the huge safety issue is that a passenger may actually be present and sensor will not turn the airbag "on" and in case of an accident, the airbag will not be deployed. and also the passenger airbag could be deployed when it shouldn't be, meaning there is no passenger present, leading to higher repair costs. a friend of mine said his 08 nissan altima had a recall for the exact same issue. this is a serious safety issue that should be investigated immediately.

Our airbag light stays on constantly and, now the driver's seat belt light stays on. since, this is a safety issue, this is still a manufacturer's problem and should be reviewed by a local dealer. with the current issues in the media about the airbags, this should be cared for.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. while driving various speeds, the air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the front driver side air bag sensor failed. the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 08v690000 (air bags). the approximate failure mileage was 115,000. the vin was unavailable.

It has same problems as all the 02-08 xterras but you wont issue recalls on fuel sensor, radiator leaking into tranny, air bag sensors, control arm. thanks for letting loyal nissan owners down!!!! *tr

The airbag lite began flashing on the dashboard. took vehicle to the dealership and the only fix action was to begin replacing parts that nissan recommended until it was fixed. no exact fix was given only the following: visually check wiring harness for connection and damage. all ok. next step in procedure is to replace driver's airbag module. subsequent procedures are to replace spiral cable, then diagnostic unit, and related harness. these are all costly steps and the parts being replaced may not be bad. the dealership couldn't determine exactly which portion was failing. in conclusion: the fix action was being replacing parts (extremely costly) until the problem is fixed. computer code: b1054 (driver airbag module open).

My husband and i own a 2007 nissan xterra for about 4 months. about a month ago when i would sit in the front passenger seat the light indicating the airbag was deactivated would turn on. i am 5' 3" and weight 115 lbs. we took it to a ken garff nissan in salt lake city. they did an airbag systems check on the car and said it was working fine. when i called nissan manufacturing to see what the weight limit was set at for the computer to decide if it was a child or not, they could not give me an answer. the lady said she (or the technical person she contacted) did not know the weight. i find it hard to believe that nissan would say a child weights 115 lbs. i know something has to be wrong in the system especially since the car did not do this when we first got it. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the remedy referenced in nhtsa campaign id number 08v690000 (air bags:frontal) was insufficient in providing a remedy to the proper population of vehicles, which were manufactured during the listed production dates. the remedy referenced in the recall would only be provided to vehicles originally sold or registered in the salt belt states. however, many consumers reside in non-salt belt states, but frequently travel in salt belt states. as a consequence, the non-salt belt state vehicle owners would incur the same failures, but would be denied a fair remedy. the safety risk would also be increased. in addition, there are other elements with similar properties as salt, which would cause an identical failure. there had been no failure to date. the manufacturer would not assist. the current mileage was not applicable.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact noticed a recall in the newspaper that pertained to his vehicle (nhtsa campaign id number 08v690000 (air bags:frontal)). the recall stated that in an event of a crash, the air bags would not deploy. there had been no failures with the vehicle. the manufacturer stated that his vin was not included in the recall; however, the contact believes that the dealer should still repair the failure. the current and failure mileages were 31,000. updated 2/5/09 *cn updated 02/10/09. *jb

I have purchased a new 2007 nissan xterra s 4x4 suv so that i can go off-roading for sports activities such as skiing (snow), hunting (mountains, dirt roads). however, i have went to test the 4 wheel drive system of my vehicle several times to ohv parks, and the last time i visited a park, i was driving through plain mud on a plain dirt ground and without any impact nor any bad driving the curtain airbags from both sides have deployed giving me a trauma for airbags. i have taken the car for repair to cerritos nissan dealer, but they told me that it will not be covered under warranty because the car had a rock dent from previous off-roading which had nothing to do with the day of the airbag deployment. as for evidence, i have uploaded on youtube the video of my airbags deploying so that people can see that it deployed for no reason. it is brand new vehicle, with less than 7500 miles on it, the dealer will not respond, and so i had to talk with nissan america corporate office in which they will make another analysis of this vehicle in which i do believe that it is a defect. for this repair, they will have to replace the entire roof ceiling in which i do not believe that it will be the same as before, and so i have requested them to get me a new vehicle because i lost confidence of my defective one. from now on, i will have the trauma of airbags deploying at any time, and i am doing this complaint because i do think that it is dangerous to let them have such system because i can imagine that because of these airbags, i could have gotten into a big accident, and wish that it is fixed for everyone for the safety of human kind!!! i have researched online, and i am not the only person with this same experience... there are few more out there with the same problem. for those who are interested in reviewing the video the link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw6huoq2gvi. *tr

Passenger air bag will not go on when my wife who ways 110 lbs. sits in the passenger seat. we tried to get the air bag to go on a couple of the same vehicles. none worked. we have contacted nissan of north america to no avail. the dealer told us that 110 lbs. is the cut off for the switch. in this day and age there are way to many children that way 110 lbs. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the front passenger side air bag sensor light illuminated while the passenger was seated. the dealer stated that the failure was unrecognizable and that the passenger may be too small (5'7, 110 lbs). the current mileage was 950 and failure mileage was 12. *updated 12/12/07 *bf updated 12/12/07 *tr

There is significant variance in when the passenger side airbag disengagement light will come on when my wife is in the car. my wife is approximately 115 pounds and there is not any consistency as to when the airbag becomes turned off. for example i will be cruising at 60 miles per hour with her sitting perfectly centered on her seat. with these conditions constant the light will go on for a variable amount of time and then turn back off. the same results can be observed regardless of what speed we are going. for example, the same situation can be observed cruising at 30 mph. the dealership, service center and regional customer service center will not acknowledge that there is a problem. there reasoning is that this is the way safety feature is designed and the vehicle passes their diagnostic test. when i ask for the design parameters that cause the light to go on and off they do not give me a specific enough reason or parameters as to why the light goes on and off. this is an obvious design failure or safety defect, but no one at nissan is is willing to take responsibility to help us. we are basically stuck with a very unsafe vehicle for anybody with a passenger between 100 to 130 pounds. this is a weight range where children and young adults are specifically at risk to this safety defect. i can understand how the airbags can be optimized to turn on and off based on various factors. but there is no consistency on what those thresholds are. we appreciate any help someone can provide in helping to get a recall for this very dangerous vehicle. *tr
