Fuel gauge inaccuracy when full read 1/4 and check engine light was on. ntb10-031 march 18,2010 has a safety recall on this. the car is a 2006 but has low mileage and has been to the dealer since march 2010. my service manager at nissan of melbourne has no knowledge of it.
Fuel gauge goes to empty when full and check engine light comes on and unsure how much gas in tank almost had accident with my 3 children in car cause gas ran out. read on line about recall #ntb10-031a and 10v075000 and yet im told they dont have any re-calls for this frustrated please help me and my children thank you
Vehicle fuel gauge not working properly, showing fuel tank at empty at all times
The airbag light is flashing intermittent not registering passengers. the fuel gage keeps going up and down unaware of fuel level. the tire pressure sensor is on and tires have correct psi. vehicle can be in start still or driving.
Gas gage reads 1/2 full when empty, while in motion
Gas gauge doesn't read the fuel level correctly. tank could be empty and the gauge reads the tank as not empty and vice versa. vehicle stopped on empty tank even tough the gauge showed i had a quarter tank of gas.
After filling the gas tank to full, the check engine light has come on and the gas gauge shows empty with the "no fuel" light illuminated. this is that same issues that nissan was having with campaign id 10v075000
After filling my godmother's 2006 nissan xterra gas tank from 1/4 to full, i notice while driving on the highway that the gas needle never moved from the 1/4 mark. but by the time i got to my destination which was approx. 20-25 miles away, i noticed the gas needle just reached 1/2 mark and "service engine soon" illuminated. per my code reader, i pulled a code for the fuel level sensor. my godmother took the truck to a repair shop wherein the mechanic charged her to erased the code without troubleshooting, & insisted that she drive until code returned. in the meantime, i found a recall campaign bulletin ref. ntb 10-031. it is a voluntary recall campaign for 2006 & 2008 xterra (n50), which to my knowledge this is. i called nissan north america (case #31357696/ agent id: 7319344) & gave the vin #. the agent stated there was no open or current recall(s)/bulletin(s) associated with this vin number. i informed her that i was physically looking at a recall, so she advise first that i have nissan run a diagnostic with their scanner & start from there. i also let her know that a diagnostic could be a costly non-beneficial investment especially if nissan's repair estimate is to high. i called nissan passport in marlowe heights, maryland and spoke to a service adviser who later told me that once code is active a diagnostic could be perform for approx. $130. then i asked, if there was a recall/bulletin which included our symptoms but apparently not our vin number could it somehow be covered. he replied "no." so i then asked if he would like to get information from me about other nissan products such as this vin # that was possible faulty, again he said "no." so i then called nhtsa , & the agent ultimately gave me the phone number to the federal trade commission. with the federal trade commission i filed a report/claim (9549774) about my treatment with nissan.
I am a 64 yr old woman driving across the country alone when my fuel gauge indicated i have gas when i did not. luckily i was not in traffic. this is a dangerous situation when in the remote areas that i travel in utah where gas stations can be 100 miles apart and no cell coverage. i had only 67365 miles on the vehicle and didnt expect to have problems. i found that 2006 xterras were recalled for those made in a 3 month period, however my vehicle is 2 months prior to their voluntary recall. same gas tank and sending unit as those recalled. (campaign id #: pc042 nhtsa #: 10v-075) i am guessing nissan did a partial voluntary recall in hopes the nhtsa wouldnt investigate the issue. now the fuel gauge shows half a tank just after a fillup and then gradually jumps to full after the vehicle sits or is driven for a bit. the engine light stays on unless cleared. diagnostic scan was done which indicated code p0463 which is defined as a fuel level sensor sensor high circuit input,
I filled up my tank and yet my fuel gauge remains at below 1/4. this happened over the last 2 recent filled ups the latest being made yesterday. on the first occasion, i got stuck on the road. today , i have to bring a gallon of gas with me to avoid getting stuck again. i called my local nissan dealership and they said my vin# does not show any recall and will not cover it under the recall provisions. i searched everywhere and found a similar situtation under nhtsa campaign id#10v07500. i don't understand it when my car apparently falls within the year of the recall but the vin# does not show anything. the dealership says recall is vin specific . please help, vin or no vin , my car is manifesting the actual issues of the previously mentioned recall campaign on defective fuel pump.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. after the contact filled up the fuel tank and continued driving, she noticed that the fuel gauge was on empty. on another occasion, while there was a quarter tank of fuel in the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed a full tank. in addition, the fuel warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced symptoms related to nhtsa campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). the vehicle was towed twice to an independent mechanic due to the loss of fuel. the mechanic diagnosed that a new fuel tank was needed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the recall campaign was expired. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 93,000.
Fuel level sensor fail, causing erratic and inaccurate fuel gauge readings and the check engine light is on.
There is a recall for the fuel sensor sending unit for 2006 xterra's, but i was told that my car was not a part of the recall because my vin was not included in the recall. i feel as though this is a mistake, and that nissan should be responsible for the fix of this issue. clearly this is an issue for other cars of the same year, and i do not want to be left with the $500 fee to replace this faulty unit. the code of my check engine light reads as this as the problem. please let me know what i can do, i do not want to be bullied by nissan for this.
Fuel gauge does not properly work. reads empty when full. reads 1/4 tank close to that for about a gallon and then goes immediately back to empty. recall on some models. my xterra currently at shop getting fixed. educated guess on how much fuel you have and vehicle can run out of gas. check engine light also comes on when gas gauge fails.
Recall number 10v075000 recall date 03/03/2010 component fuel system, gasoline:storage:auxillary tank summary nissan is recalling certain model year 2006 and model year 2008 frontier, xterra and pathfinder vehicles. the molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empty. consequence this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. what owners should do dealers will replace the fuel level sending unit inside the fuel tank with a new one that has a modified float arm. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or before march 22, 2010. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261. read more at https://www.cars.com/recalls/nissan-xterra-2006/#l0jrs5l0sdaqitlu.99
After filling up gas tank, (i put in 14+ gallons of gas )the fuel gauge remained @ 1/4 tank and the check engine light went on after driving for 24 hours, the gas gauge begins to go to full but the check engine light remains on--this happened on 2 occasions and since the gauge seemed to be working , the mechanic reset the check engine light (it came up with fuel gauge error code), this happened last week and again yesterday i checked the data base for my vin # and there is no recalls, but i see there are other nhtsa recalls for this issue with other nissan xterra's will the dealer replace this free of charge ? (fuel level sending unit ?)
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge failed and displayed the incorrect level. the contact mentioned that the fuel gauge always displayed empty and the engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). the failure mileage was 180,000.
The fuel sender unit is erratic. shows empty when fuel is half tank or full. triggers chenk engine light intermittently.
Fuel pump has gone out gives false reading..worried could run out of gas and shut off and have a bad accident.or someone could be killed.. company needs a recall..bad wires.
I have a fuel gauge problem exactly as described in the nyssa xterra recall, gauge reaches 3/4 tank but won't go lower. then all of the sudden it drops to empty. my local nissan, allen jay nissan says my vin is not covered in the recall and they aren't fixing the problem, they just extended the warranty. well my car is 10years old and no longer has a warranty at 182,000 miles. i won't pay $400 to get it fixed because it is a known defect and they need to fix it. who do i contact at nissan to fight this injustice?
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. while driving 45 mph, the fuel gauge displayed an incorrect reading. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel sensor sending unit needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact was aware of nhtsa campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the vin was not included. the failure mileage was 155,000.
I have a faulty fuel sending unit that has been recalled by nissan but does not acknowledge my vin as part of the recall. i am having the same issue as many nissan owners regarding an inaccurate fuel gauge as a result of faulty fuel sending unit. as noted in the recall (campaign id# pc042): "nissan is conducting a voluntary safety recall campaign on certain my2006 and 2008 frontier, xterra, and pathfinder vehicles to address a potential fuel gauge inaccuracy. specifically, the issue can cause the fuel gauge to show that the vehicle still has some fuel, typically about one quarter tank, when the fuel tank is actually empty. to remedy this potential condition, nissan is conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign to replace the fuel level sending unit with a new one at no charge for parts or labor." this is accurate to my problem where the fuel gauge will read inaccurately at any point, leaving the operator with uncertainty of fuel level and potential disabled vehicle, leading to potentially life-threatening situations. at one point i ran out of gas on the highway and had to quickly make it across three lanes to a safe stopping point, even though my fuel gauge read over 1/4 tank. my vehicle was towed to local garage where i was told i ran out of gas and had to pay for towing, gas, etc as a result of faulty nissan parts.
The engine light is on, the problem code is po 463. the reference number is: ntb07-069d. a recall campaign for the model and make of my vehicle was on your site november 30, 2010. my fuel gauge is erratic, the sensor is faulty, nissan refuses to fix this problem as , according to their tennessee office, my vin number has no open recalls. i now have to fix this problem as my vehicle will not pass inspection. the cost is approximately $400.00. i am very disappointed in the service i received from nissan.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge failed to provide accurate reading levels when the vehicle was refueled. in addition, the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge became inoperable without warning. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 155,000.
Nissan service bulletin ntb07-069b check engine light on, resulting in me running out of gas in traffic, the last time inches away from causing an accident as the truck completely died without warning while i was in motion on a major highway. contacted nissan and they told me my truck was not affected by this recall, yet here i am with the same problem as everybody else with only 60,000 miles on a 2006 vehicle. they are refusing to help resolve the situation and insist i pay to have them replace a part and pay labor to replace such part. i have taken very good care of this vehicle including keeping it low miles. there is no reason a "normal" fsu should fail after 60000 miles. i am now unable to renew my registration causing me and my family to drive around illegally as this is our only transportation. we are unable to afford the ridiculous cost nissan has quoted us and don't feel we should have to pay to fix an obvious faulty part. they should be held responsible for this part failing and possibly causing serious injury to my family or another family.
Our vehicle began to no longer show that we had any fuel on the gas gauge. i saw that 2006 nissan xterras had a recall on the fuel level sending unit. we had the repairs done at a nissan dealership, but were informed that our vin number would not be covered. the corporate headquarters said we had no recourse because this was a warranty issue even though their website refers to it as a recall. is there anything i can do? please help!
Cracked radiator hose caused coolant to mix with transmission fluid thereby ruining the transmission. cost included radiator and transmission (used) replacement. this issue would have been proactively repaired / replaced the radiator prior to the issue occurring had nissan notified me of it. instead, it cost an extra $3500 to replace both radiator and transmission. a totally preventable situation, never mind the potentially hazardous situation had the transmission failed at highway speeds. no excuse for nissan.
These vehicles seem to have a safety flaw. when depressing the brake pedal the amount of travel is such that it is a common occurrence to depress the gas pedal at the same time causing the car to lurch forward. i have had two different nissan dealers (henderson, nevada and boise, idaho) inspect my vehicle and was told in both cases there is nothing that can be done...its the way the automobile was manufactured. during my last dealer inspection in boise, idaho the mechanic brought a new 2015 model into the garage and put the two cars side by side. the difference in brake pedal travel was approximately 1/8 of an inch, so the problem has evidently never been addressed by the manufacturer. today, my vehicle lurched forward when braking because the gas pedal was depressed while braking. it is paramount that one's foot is centered on the brake pedal; if your foot is off to the right side just a little, the gas pedal will be depressed while braking causing an unsafe situation. i have had many very close calls because of this issue. *tr
I was on my way back from the mall when i heard my fan/belt start to squeal. not thinking anything of it i kept on driving next thing i know i'm pressing harder on my gas peddle just to go faster. my rpms where going to high and i was only going 65. i was on the high when this happen so i didn't notice till i had to go up a bridge and that's when i really notice my engine struggling to get power, it sounded like it was doing a lot when it really wasn't. i knew i had to go to the mechanic to get it looked at they told me it was a lose bolt. next thing i'm driving home and my car was doing the same thing again but this time it wasn't going into gear in drive, so i tried 3 gear still nothing so i went to 2 and it stuck. i parked it on a side street in ocean city and called trip a and had it towed to nissan of atlantic city to see what was wrong. couple days later they called and told me my radiator fluid leaked into my transmission and messed all the gears up. after hearing that i looked up that problem on xterras apparently this is a pretty common occurrence on them. i was not notified of such problems by the dealer and apparently nissan want reimburse me so i'm out 7,500 because my nissan is sitting in my back yard. *tr
1. engine light on - remains on, need to reset - at 77000+ miles fuel gauge is off chart when full tank is filled up fuel gauge is unreliable, need to use the speedometer to gauge gas tank vin# is not on the recall list under fuel tank recall campaign 10v075000 vin# id for recall=engine only=campaign# 10v517000; total recall listed = 5 for 2006 xterra models 2. tire pressure light is on continuously=tpms = not on recall list/campaign, can this be added?? all tires are have correct recommended psi; yet light is on continuously, reset works only temporarily tpms - as of oct 2014; at 75000 miles need dealer to fix all recalls, can this be done?? plse advise asap. bought the car used/pre-owned.... thank you for your attention & time. *tr
When it turned cold jan/feb 2105 our daughter told us the heat was not working. but she knew we did not have the money to repair so we did not worry about it. we own a 2000 chevy truck & the heat has not worked for years & we just live with it.so we never thought about the radiator/coolant being the problem. then something major happened-our daughter was driving home from auburn al to our home in opelika al & she called us saying the car would not go over 25-30 mph. we were out of town, it was 10 pm at night so we told her to keep driving and get home to a safe place (her life was more important than stopping on the side of the road--a young lady all by herself) she got home, parked it & when we returned home we took it to a local repair shop that we trust. he called us the next day & said i have devastating news. he told us about the service report put out on nissan xterras in regard to the major, well known to nissan problem of when the coolant/radiator cracks because of a faulty when in manufacturing radiator is put in it is a known by nissan bad one. it cracks & leaks into the transmission in which the coolant mixes with the transmission fluid & creates a toxic hell stew that destroys the transmission. he said your car is worth $5,000 but the cost to repair is $7,000. i called nissan they told me i had to take it to a nissan dealer for their diagnosis and the diagnosis is the same. my husband is very, very sick and we have huge medical, pharmacy, hospital bills and i have had breast cancer with chemo that has caused an autoimmune disorder (almost lost my left eye) and our 15 year-old daughter goes to children's hospital in birmingham al for rheumatoid arthritis. we thought we were buying a very dependable car for $14,000 only 3 1/2 years ago and now it is 4500 pounds of junk metal. if nissan had told us about the problem, we could have been proactive. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact discovered that the fuel tank was empty and the fuel gauge displayed incorrect reading levels. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was radiator coolant inside the transmission. the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, the contact mentioned that the air conditioner and heating system became inoperable. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). the failure mileage was 102,000.
Transmission going out due to a problem that many others seem to be having as well. see link below for more information regarding coolant leaking into the transmission. *tr http://www.carcomplaints.com/nissan/xterra/2006/transmission/coolant_leaked_into_transmission.shtml
Upon turning a corner after coming to a complete stop at a stop sign in my neighborhood, i went to accelerate and match the speed of oncoming traffic. the gear failed to shift appropriately (transmission) and giving the car gas simply revved the engine. luckily the approaching car responded well and slowed to avoid a rear collision while i eased off the pedal and then gently accelerated again to my local mechanic. upon his examination of my 2006 xterra, he determined that the transmission fluid and coolant were mixing and destroying both my radiator and transmission. a quick search on the internet revealed that this dangerous problem is common among nissan owners! when i purchased the vehicle from smithtown nissan in 2010 and subsequently, there was absolutely no notification or recall regarding this dangerous hazard. this is unacceptable and life-threatening. there settlement of a class action lawsuit is insufficient (a $2500 - $3k) co-pay to replace the transmission and potentially have the same defect again! my wife and kids rely on my car every day and i feel fortunate that i did not wait any longer to have the car examined, but i am extremely disturbed by nissan's negligence. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was not giving a proper reading level and that the vehicle stalled from low fuel more than once. the contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v517000 (engine and engine cooling) and was waiting for the part to become available and schedule the recall repair. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
After i filled up with gas and put in a full tank i noticed that my gas guage is stuck at a quarter of a tank. after turning my car on and off it still says a quarter of a tank. after doing research on this it appears to be the fuel sending unit and i am past the 72 month warranty on this. the dealership quoted me 450-550 to fix this. *tr
Check engine light came on so i took it to an autozone to have the code read. po463, fuel sending unit. did some research, called nissan corporate to inform them of the issue and see if i was eligible for extended warranty (wasn't covered). nissan corporate informed me that i was eligible for ecm relay replacement at no cost at a dealership, so i took the car to a dealership that quoted me lowest on the fuel sensor repair. they asked if i had other issues and i told them that my engine sometimes sounded like an rc car. they offered to look into it, called this afternoon after completing work on sensor and ecm relay to inform me that my timing chains were shot and in need of immediate replacement. did some more research and found this is a frequent issue in nissan cars, decided to file a report. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a float arm inside the fuel tank. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 95,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the fuel gauge displayed empty however the fuel tank was full. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
Car ran out of gas on highway in traffic, gas gauge still indicated 1/4 full. believe this is a serious safety problem. contacted dealer and they know of this problem( bad gas tank/sender, but i was never notified that my car could have been affected. *tr
Yesterday mile fuel light came on. i stopped after work and filled up the gas tank. when i started my car, the fuel gauge was still showing empty and the fuel light was on. this morning, i got in my car to head to work and the service engine soon light came on and stayed. when researching on internet, i saw that this was a grossly common problem. i also saw that a recall had been place on a couple of nissans from 2006-2008 for this exact problem. when calling my local dealership they inform me that my vin is not included in the recall. it seems to me that your gas gauge is improperly functioning, and your car is the same year and style, all the vehicles should be fixed. no exceptions!!!! this can be very dangerous and should be fixed. any car that has this problem, no matter what the vin, has received the same faulty pieces! *tr
My vehicle stalled on me while showing a quarter of a tank of gas when in fact it was empty. we had to have the gas pump sending unit changed out because it was not working correctly. a part that was recalled back in 2014 and replaced under the campaign# 647389. we bought this vehicle from a trade in at a car dealership and this was the first week we drove it, so i find it hard to believe that the replacement part just went out. so the recall replacement part was not any better than the original part seeing it didn't last even four years. i am just glad i was on a country road and not the interstate at the time. we contacted nissan about the situation and they refused to cover the bill to fix it. they said they did the recall work. what good is a recall if the replacement part is no better? thank you. *js
Check engine light on, took car to local shop to read codes, showed fuel sensor issue. gas gauge is all over the place. it shows full when empty, empty when full, and some in between. this appears to be a common issue, my vin # shows no recalls or none that are covered over 72k miles?? what a disappointment in nissan! would hate to run out of gas in -29 degrees with the kids and freeze trying to get home but i guess that is not a safety issue and "not worth mentioning". *tr
Engine cut off, rough idled, would not respond to acceleration. attempted to re-start, rough idled, check engine light flickering, required towing. at repair shop, no problem, bad gas was the diagnosis. repeated. would not start. required towing. tow operator tried a few resets, oxygen sensors, nothing. towed home. next day, started fine. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated that the gears slipped intermittently while traveling at any speed. the failure recurred multiple times. an authorized dealer was notified of the failure more than once, who repaired the radiator and transmission to no avail. the contact had heard a humming noise when changing gears and also experienced the fuel gauge providing erroneous fuel level readings. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline) but the local dealer and manufacturer both stated that the vehicle had exceeded the one year time frame to have the recall repair performed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000. updated 08/11/14*lj the consumer would like to reimbured the payments made towards the deductible and the car rental. updated 08/18/2014*js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan xterra. the contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that the fuel gauge displayed incorrect fuel levels. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that the fuel gauge failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 10v075000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the vin was not included in the recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 105,223.
I have a 2006 nissan xterra. i have a problem with the fuel indicator. it drops down to "e" when the vehicle idles for more than a few minutes. *tr
I purchased this vehicle used and found out that the fuel gauge does not work. even after completely filling the fuel tank up the gauge shows "e", empty. it will, on occasion, show 1/4 tank when the fuel level is low. due to this my vehicle has run out of gas on several occasions while driving at various speeds in various locations and often i have my child in the car with me. i have had to be pushed out of traffic on busy streets due to the vehicle being out of gas and me not being able to know i am running low on gas. it is very scary and quite dangerous. i have spoken with nissan on several occasions, as there are recalls on this year vehicle for this same exact issue, but they state to me that my vehicle does not fall into the recall. i am told that the recall is for the same year vehicle but not all models. i can not afford to pay to have the vehicle fixed and am stuck with the issue. i am very unhappy with both the seller of the vehicle and the nissan corporation. *tr
Fuel gauge stopped working correctly. does not show full after filling tank. *tr
