20'04 nissan titan on second repair for warped brake rotors. first repair at 5000 miles, and second repair at 7500 miles. *ak
Steering/truck vibration when brakes are applyed.
1.) truck shakes when brake is applied. 2.) truck shakes violently when brake is applied -hard to maintain control. 3.) nissan turned the rotors. the nissan representative acknowledged that there is a problem with the braking system on these trucks and that several other nissan titan owners were having the same problem but they will not offer a permanent fix until the rotors have been turned twice by the nissan service center. at this point (the third appointment for brakes) they will install a new braking system. this should be rendered both unsafe and unacceptable. since there is a noted problem, nissan should have offered a permanent fix at the first service appointment. nissan should not be allowed to gamble with people's lives by deterring a permanent fix on a safety component such as brakes.
Brake rotors became warped with only 5,000 miles on my 2004 titan se crew cab. dealer says have to bring it in for 2 fixes, that they know don't work in the long run, before nissan will allow them to order the parts for the permanent fix of installing larger heavy duty rotors along with some other parts. this is a very dissappointing reponse from nissan for a very serious and very common problem. also, i've spoken with approx. 5 titan owners and all have the same problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan titan. the contact stated when the brakes were applied, the vehicle would violently shake. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the rotors were out of round. the brake pads were replaced and the rotors were resurfaced under warranty. the failure recurred a few more times and the manufacturer issued and unknown brake recall. the vehicle was repaired under the recall but the failure continued to recur. he stated the vehicle was taken to the dealer approximately seven times for the brake failure where the rotors would be resurfaced. the failure continued to recur. the failure mileage was 3,000 and the current mileage was 49,000.
Dt: contact states consumer has two nissan vehicles and the rotors have been replaced on one vehicle. also, the other vehicle is in need of replacement's the rotors. the nissan manufacturer stated that there was a problem within the brake system. *ak
With only 3900 miles on the truck, the rotors are starting to warp badly!! national customer. service. says no recall in sight, but local dealer has paperwork on recall coming out?????? the brakes should definitely be better than this for a vehicle that can tow 9400 lbs!! brakes have gone bad, early, w/out towing anything!!!!!
Approximately four months after purchasing my 2004 nissan titan i gradually began experiencing a 'shudder while braking' problem. the problem quickly escalated and became greater and greater. on march 30th, 2005, i took the truck into passport nissan of marlow heights, maryland for repairs. at this point i learned through the service manager that nissan was aware of the problem but they did not have permanent repair kit for the problem. my truck was out of service for one day and they returned my truck indicating that they resurfaced the rotors and replaced the brake pads. this procedure was only a temporary solution for the problem. approximately 4,000 miles later the 'shudder w/braking' problem re-occurred. just as before the problem escalated and became greater and greater. on july 07th, 2005, i returned my 2004 nissan titan to the same dealership for the same repair. on july 12th, 2005, i picked up my truck and discovered that no repairs had been made and the problem still existed. the service manager indicated to me that parts were on order. as of the date of this report, the problem still exist and nissan does not have a corrective repair kit for this defect. the service manager also indicated that nissan of america was aware of the problem and that they were working on a solution. to my knowledge there has been no recall for this defect and there probably should be one. the brakes on my truck are terrible and at time appear ineffective, especially in wet weather. in my opinion nissan has not addressed this problem appropriately. i am aware of other nissan titan owners who are experiencing the same problem and none of them have received notification about this defect or anything that nissan is doing to rectify the defect. *nm
I purchased a 2004 nissan titan in november, at about 2,500 miles i noticed a slight shudder when i applied my brakes at higher speeds. the situation deteriorated over the next thousand miles or so until i could feel the shudder when i used my brakes going just a couple miles an hour. the dealership replaced the the pads and machined the rotors which took care of the problem, but let me know that there was a good chance this would occur again. i was told that nissan had a permanent fix for the problem, but since this was the first occurence i wasn't elligible for that repair.*ak
My nissian titan has brake problems, when the brake pedal is depressed the front end of the truck shakes violently and it has serious front end vibration. the truck has been back to the dealer 5 seperate occasions, new rotors have been installed on 3 occasions. the last time was on 28 feb. the dealer stated these were new rotors authorized by nissian as the fix for the brake issue. after the new rotors were installed the vibration is now worse than its ever been. nissan has refused to answer any emails and phone calls about this issue.
Brakes failed at 2600 miles while driving at 75 mph. brakes would fail at any time. brakes has been changed four different times. took vehicle to dealer, and was informed that they didn't know why the brakes were wearing out.*ak
Took my vehicle to the dealer for service on the front brakes because of shuddering and excessive wear. was told by service rep that there was a service campaign on the brakes because they were undersized for the vehicle. the repair kit would be ordered to replace the rotors, calipers, and pads. i was never notified by nissan of any defect in the brakes. it took 2 months to get the parts in but not the parts they had discussed. they turned the rotors because they were warped replaced a control arm and replaced the pads. making the rotor thinner and replacing the pads is not going to resolve the problem. they indicated another "repair kit" would be available in april or may. meanwhile i continue to drive with the brakes being admittedly undersized for this vehicle.
With 7000 on the odometer the vehicle developed a terrible case of squealing brakes, where nissan replaced brakes and rotors. now, with 14000 on the odometer the vehicle has developed terrible shudder of steering wheel when brakes are applied, worse at higher speeds. dealer has ordered new brakes and rotors for me, waiting for them to come in.*ak
The consumer is experiencing a problem with the brakes. the consumer had to replace the brakes and rotors every 5,000 mi. when applying the brakes, the suspension vibrated which caused the entire front of the vehicle to shake. the owner contacted the manufacturer but received no assistance. *jb the parking brake does not hold vehicle. emergency brake found to be out of adjustment. tailgate striker rod out of position and had to be replaced. fuel door spring/clip deformed. *tt
Front rotors warping which causes poor drivability and difficulty controlling the vehicle under normal braking conditions. nissan has issued a tsb and vehicle was serviced under this tsb at 4000 miles, problem recurred at 7500 miles. nissan service states there has been many complaints with this vehicle and will again service at no cost. i am unaware at this time if this will fix the problem. *nm
When brakes were applied vehicle did not stop properly. took vehicle to dealer, and consumer was informed that rotors were warped, and undersized, making it hard to handle vehicle when applying the brakes. *ak contacted nissan customer service and they confirmed the vehicle had been manufactured with undersized rotors and brake pads. they would not replaced undersized rotor of pads. they would/and did turn the original rotors and replaced pads with identical undersized pads. while in stop and go traffic brakes became less and less affective possible from over heating. *bf
To whom it concerns, i own a 2004 nissan titan truck that has a major flaw in the braking system. i seriously think that i will be causing an accident if this problem is not fixed. i've been back to the dealership 3 times to have this problem fixed. they admitt to the faulty brakes sytem, but do not have a permanent fix. i am very concerned for the safety of my family. please contact nissan and force them to recall all the titans and fix this well known problem. i can't believe in the year 2005 it is ok to have thousands of trucks roaming our highways with faulty brakes? *ak
Dt*: the contact stated the brakes became soft and spongy, and then the front end began to vibrate. the dealership determined the rotors were warped and turned the rotors. the problem recurred and the vehicle is currently at the dealership. the contact stated the rotors are not the correct size for the vehicle. updated 03/17/06. *jb
While applying the brake pedal vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the rotors needed to be replaced. *ak
4000 miles on the truck and the brake rotors are warped causing the steering wheel to vibrate. the brake peddle also pulsates when brakes applied. *jb
Front end of vehicle has terrible vibration while braking caused by overheated and warped front disc brake rotors. front brakes rotors and pads have been replaced by the dealer twice (at roughly 6,000 and once at 11,093 miles). the replacement rotors at the 11,093 mile service are redesigned rotors intended to fix the recurring problem. at 17,752 miles the problem recurred and the new redesigned rotors had to be resurfaced by the dealer. *nm
Defective brakes on all nissan titan trucks manufactured to date. i have to replace the front brakes every 4000-4500 miles. they shake violently and could easily cause a traffic accident. nissan does not have a "fix" for this problem and should recall all nissan titans at this time for a permanent replacement of the faulty system. i now have 9300 miles on my new 2004 titan and am currently on my third set of front brakes.
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan titan. the contact has experienced several failures with the vehicle since the date it was purchased. while driving various speeds and applying pressure to the brakes, the vehicle vibrated and the braking power was lost. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the rotors failed. the vehicle was repaired. the entire braking system (rotors and brake pads) have been replaced three times since the original failure date. when adults use the rear seat safety belts, they become tighter as the vehicle is being operated. the seat belts cause a great amount of pressure to the neck and chest area and have to be released and reconnected for safety. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 8,000 and current mileage was 38,000.
Warped rotor. normal use. 6k miles. 2004 nissan titan truck. dealers "fix" is to turn the rotor and make it thinner rather than replacing it with a heaver part. *jb
Consumer complained about a front brake problem. owner had the rotors and pads replaced after 7,000 miles. when driving, the vehicle shook violently when braking. owner contacted the manufacturer, and was told that they were aware that the brakes were defective because of a design flaw. *ak the consumer took the vehicle in for service several times but the problem was not fixed. *tc
Same warpage of front brakes. dealer said all they are doing is turning rotors. if the shudder continues, what happens when the caliper bracket breaks? *jb the caliper spins and tears the brake line loose, wow no brakes. nisson will be sued if this is not fixed quickly.
No accident or injury as of yet. however, i have been experiencing brake judder issues on my 2004 nissan titan evry 3000 to 5000 miles. i currently have 10,900 miles on the truck, and have just brought it back to the dealer for the third time for repair of this issue. judjing from my experience, and that of other titan owners, it is reasonably clear to me that we are dealing with an inferior design of the brake system on this truck and it is only a matter of time before someone is killed. this is a problem that nissan has been dealing with for months now, but with no good resolution. it has even been rumored from a very reliable source at nissan, that the problem extends back to a misplaced purchase order for hundreds of thousands of the brake parts. rather than order the right parts, and delay shipment, nissan has elected to build the trucks and deal with the problem later. i hope that there can be some kind of investigation into this problem, with the outcome being a forced recall (not just a tsb).*ak
Brakes have terrible vibration/shudder. replace at 5000, 9,000, 15000, & now 20000 miles.
I purchased a 2004 nissan titan le in november of 2004. when the vehicle reached a little over 4,000 miles the brakes started to shudder and the steering wheel would vibrate and also the brake pedal. the local nissan dealership replaced the brake pads and ground the rotors and the problem appeared fixed. after another 2,000 miles of driving the brake pedal had to be pushed further and further closer to the floorboard to get brakes to stop the truck. then the steering wheel began to vibrate along with the pedal. the truck was taken back to the local dealership again and the rotors were turned again appearing to solve the problem. after about 200 miles the brakes began to fade again. the steering wheel and the pedal have not started to vibrate yet but going with the past history of the problem it should only be a matter of time. i want nissan to fix the problem immediately. the problem could not only be a safety problem due to no brake pedal when applied but also vibration from applying pedal. lastly a truck with only 6500 miles should not keep getting the rotors turned over and over. *ak
Steering shakes violently when brakes are applied. very hard to control at freeway speeds. had it repaired at dealership at 9k miles, its back again at 13k. i cant believe nissan has not recalled this yet - its a lawsuit waiting to happen, and even worse a real safety hazard for everyone on the road.*ak
I have a 2004 nissan titan se and it requires new brakes at 5667 miles due to a faulty brake design. the truck shkes excessively every time i step on the brakes. i am concerned this is a potential problem that may cause an accident. *ak
1-knocking sound, sounds like a diesel engine. 2-body & steering wheel vibration at idle. 3-hissing sound when heat or ac is on. 4-rotors replaced 3 times. still having some problem. 5-when idle in gear (idle drops below 500 steering start to vibrate. 6-vibration on brake pedal. 7-emergency brake not holding when in park. *nm
Dt: nissan 2004 titan pickup and front brake problems. the brakes are vibrating when you come to a stop. the nissan dealership describe it as warped rotors on both front brakes. the nissan dealership said they would temporarily fix the problem until nissan came out with a permanent fix. as you apply the brakes the steering wheel will shake violently. the consumer has not had the temporary fix done, still waiting on nissan for the recall notice. the nissan dealer said that nissan is working on a permanent fix. *tt *eh consumer states that when brakes are applied steering is hard to control.*sb
Gas tank "spews" gas at you when filling. the tank has been replaced and still does this. the brakes "judder" and cause the vehicle to shake. they have been repaired three times and are still not correct. nissan refuses to admit this is a significant safety issue. there are technical service bulletins on the brakes. *nm
Numerous problems have arisen with my leased 2004 nissan titan king cab. including serious vibration problems that occurred upon braking to the point the vehicle was parked until the dealer finally agreed to at least 'turn' the rotors. eventually brakes were replaced by dealer 6 months after the initial problem. currently facing problems including a noise at startup that everyone can hear except the dealer mechanics, an overflow problem with gas tank even though just a few liters have been put in an empty tank. additionally major problems with driver side door refusing to open from both the inside and outside. dealer has realigned door numerous times but problem continues. dealer states the door problem is due to a poor design with a heavy door on inadequate hinges. occasionally have had to drive while holding door closed. extremely dangerous considering weight of door. this truck is barely one year old and problems just keep piling up with little dealer support offered.*jb
1 normal driving 2 brake rotor warp (aka brake judder) 3 turn rotors not replaced. *jb
Dt: while driving to work the owner noticed a shaking feeling when the brakes were applied for a stop light. there was extended stopping distance. the problem became progressively worse. vehicle was taken to dealer for service in june, and the brakes were replaced at owner's expense. the first brake repair was at 20,000 miles and cost $1,000.00. two months after the repairs dealership acted as if this was an isolated incident. shaking at stop lights occurred again. . owner called and made an appointment with dealership to have this problem repaired. the owner asked the service manager what the company knew about the problem. the owner will refuse to pay for the repairs if it needs to be repaired. he will contact the national number for nissan today. the vehicle was regularly serviced with records available. *ak
The consumer stated he took the vehicle in to have the brakes inspected after discovering a bulletin on the internet. two months later the brakes failed, which caused the vehicle to strike another vehicle and roll over. consequently, the air bags did not deploy. *jb *bf
2004 nissan titan, driving through super market shopping center, the brakes failed to stop the truck. my wife had to pump the brakes repeatedly in order for the truck to come to a stop. she was going less than 10 mph when this occurred. it continued to the dealership, which was 1/2 mile down the same street. the dealership could not find the problem or replicate it. she refuses to drive the truck and wants it gone. my daughter who was also in the truck will not go back into it. my brakes have been replaced twice in first at 11000 miles and again at 38000 now this at 42000 miles. with all the brake problems these trucks have had, someone is going to get killed. *jb
While stopping truck wheel shakes left to right and gets more violent the harder i stopped. truck had about 4000 miles on it. took to dealer he replaced front rotors and brake pads it fixed the problem. now with 6000 mile i notice the same thing starting to happen again. never had any vechiles brakes fail with so few miles. this must be a defect from factory.*ak
While driving 35 mph driver applied the brake pedal and the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. *ak
While applying the brake pedal vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection numerous times. mechanic determined that the rotors needed to be replaced and replaced them. however, the problem recurred.*ak
I've gone through 3 sets of rotors and brakes in 8 months.*ak
Multiple brake and steering shudder problems with 2004 titan nissan se crew cab truck, dealer makes mfg suggested repairs but shudder returns creating safety worries and fear of losing control of vehicle. moreover, transmission coolant line replaced wherein dealer informs me that blowout could lead to failure. front tires excessive wear, vibration and shudder with or without brake application. headlight switch design flawed, easily turned off when turn stalk activated or lights are dimmed from high to low beam. all the above problems occured and still are occuring within first 3500 miles!! *ak
My 2004 nissan titan has under 6,000 miles on it when it, like many others, started experienced brake judder/failure, especially when braking from highway speeds. reported to the dealer, confirmed judder, and was added to nissan's list for replacement parts as they become available (1 set/2 weeks nation-wide, i'm told). returning home from work on a wet highway, under moderate braking for an accident ahead, the brakes locked, sending the titan sideways into a barrier. i've driven accident-free for nearly 20 years and never experienced total loss of control as in the titan...it simply would not stop and i was travelling well under the posted speed limit in moderate traffic. i have no doubt had the dealer replaced the brakes at the first complaint or nissan installed adequate front brakes from the factory, the accident would have been avoided.*ak
Brakes overheated, causing violent shaking of the steering wheel. this occured 4 times within 14000 miles, leading to multiple fixes by dealer which did not work. this could potentialy lead to a failure of the braking system which could cause a fatal accident.*ak
While driving vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. consumer took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that brake pads and rotors wore out and needed to be replaced. however, problem recurred. *ak
Vehicle experienced a problem with the brake pedal pulsating, steering wheel and vehicle vibrating. the vehicle also pulled to the left while braking. vehicle was taken to the dealer who turned the front rotors. the problem recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. *ak the rotors need to be replaced every 4000 miles due to warping. *nm
Major steering wheel vibration when applying the brakes. took to dealer in december to have tsb perfromed. (rotors turned, new pads, grease.) less than a week after being serviced the shudder returned and it is as bad as it was prior to being serviced.*ak
Excessive shaking in the steering when applying brakes. took to nissan dealer 3 times in 16000 miles rotors were turned once happened again then rotors and brakes replaced the 2nd time now had to turn rotors again. *jb something is wrong but they say im too hard on my brakes and i know that's bulls.. *jb
