I received a recall notice in the mail this week: recall 06v-459 about the airbag warning light flashing, seat belts not working properly, etc. my vehicle is having all of the problems listed so as instructed i brought my vehicle to the nissan dealership along with the letter. they informed me that they would not fix the problem because it "was not in their system". stating they do not understand why i got a notice in the mail. clearly my vehicle is having these exact problems and they are required to fix them, but they still refused to fix or diagnose for free as required by law. very disappointing in nissan for disregarding my family's safety. *tr..updated 08-07-13 *bf
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan titan. the contact stated that the front driver's side seat belt webbing failed to automatically retract upon engaging. in 2006, the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 04v345000 (seat belts) even though there was not a defect. in 2013, the seat belt retractor malfunction occurred. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 nissan titan. while the vehicle was stationary, the driver and passenger side seat belts failed to retract when prompted. the contact also stated that the vehicle stalled without warning on numerous occasions while stationary and while driving various speeds. in addition, while driving 70 mph, the control panel became inoperative and completely lost power. the contact stated that the failures were intermittent and became progressively worse since 2011. a dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
On 6/20/2008 i went to a nissan dealership to resolve a recall item to replace rear door wiring harness, recall # r0616. the recall was performed and in the process the dealership also replaced lh-pretensioner, seatbelt and body harness, and reset airbag warning light. on 6/03/2013, the airbag warning light came on and i went to a nearby nissan dealership and was advised that i would have to replace the lh-pretensioner, seatbelt and body harness, i informed the service advisor that this work was already accomplished once and that i had the documents if he needed them. the service advisor then stated that since the work was accomplished five years ago that even though the parts are a safety item that they were no longer under warranty, resulting in a 574.30 charge of which i paid. my contention is that this is a safety item, and thus should not have a warranty restriction, i am not sure if the truck is even safe to drive. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan titan. while driving 55 mph, the driver could not stop the vehicle after applying the brakes. the vehicle went over an embankment. as a result, the driver sustained fatal injuries. the contact was unsure if the airbags deployed. the vehicle is presently being held by the hwy patrol. the vehicle had been taken for brake repairs 7 times and was released to the contact saying that the brakes were fine. prior to the crash the brakes had failed in october and the contact had the vehicle serviced and filed a complaint. the service manager told the contact that he believed that there was still something wrong with the vehicle and was fired from his position. during prior failures, the abs warning light became illuminated. the contact has reported the failures to nissan with no resolution. the current and failure mileages were 83,000. this is the second complain that the contact has filed. the prior incident reported was 10/07 updated 01/24/08 *bf the dealer stated performed recall dealing with seat belt, heating and a/c is intermittent, vehicle is overheating and rear taillights inoperable. updated 01/24/08 *tr
Tl*- the contact stated that all passenger seat belts on the 2004 nissan titan intermittently go to the child restraint mode when being used by in the adult passenger mode. the passenger must remove the seat belt, return it to the retracted position, and reconnect the seat belt. it happened most often on a bumpy road surface at 20 mph. *ak updated 03/02/07. *jb

Nissan titan crew cab, rear seat middle shoulder/ lap belt, locks up when used, trapping occupant when belt locks up, making it difficult to release, and then requires occupant to get out and try to retract belt to start working again. *nm

Since purchasing my truck in august of 2004 i have experienced several brake related issues. i've taken the truck to the same dealer for service on each failure/issue. the break issues experienced have been brake lights turning on, brakes shuddering, the truck not braking properly, brakes not working until the pedal was almost completely pressed. recently the truck failed to stop resulting in a rear end collision. the dealer has replaced/resurfaced rotors, brake pads and replaced sensors during the past year and a half. however, i continue to experience issue after issue regarding the brakes. i have had other defects as well, but the brake issues have been the primary issue. *nm
Seat belts locking up. seat belts on front passenger and rear outside passengers have a retract system that does not allow passenger to lean forward. belts are locking up requiring passengers to disconnect belts from belt latch and letting belt retract all the way back to stored position. then they can be pulled out and reattached and they work for awhile. they will do this at anytime. there is no set time that it happens. it happens with different passengers but mostly with women. the drivers seat belt does not have any lockups. the seat belts have been replaced 4 (four) times to date and are going to be replaced again as soon as they are received by dealer. they have been covered by warranty. we have lost count of how many time this has happened. probably 500+. the safety issue is that belts are disconnected while driving and then reconnected leaving the passengers unprotected during this procedure. belts just get tighter and tighter until they have to be released and reset. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated the shoulder straps on the rear seat belts lock up while in use. this is a constant problem and the passengers cannot move as a result. the dealership replaced the seatbelts, but the problem persists. other vehicles on the dealership lot were inspected and they all have the same problem. the manufacturer states this is how the vehicle was manufactured. updated 03/28/06. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan titan. the contact has experienced several failures with the vehicle since the date it was purchased. while driving various speeds and applying pressure to the brakes, the vehicle vibrated and the braking power was lost. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the rotors failed. the vehicle was repaired. the entire braking system (rotors and brake pads) have been replaced three times since the original failure date. when adults use the rear seat safety belts, they become tighter as the vehicle is being operated. the seat belts cause a great amount of pressure to the neck and chest area and have to be released and reconnected for safety. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the failure mileage was 8,000 and current mileage was 38,000.
The seat belt retractors in the rear are defective. they do not allow for movement, and get tighter and tighter until you have to unbuckle (defeating the purpose of a seat belt) and readjust. see the other identical complaints on this site for details. my problem is just as they describe. in dealing with the nissan dealer, they first said they could not duplicate the problem. i took the service writer to the vehicle, and demonstrated the problem for him. he then replied "oh that problem (i had made the problem perfectly clear when i took it in), well, they all do that. we had another customer complain, and we checked an 06 model, and they work the same way". all that means is that 04 and 06 are defective, and probably the 05 as well. i have had the truck in to service this issue three times, always with the same result: denial that the problem exists, and then acknowledgement that "they all do that" (and implying that they can't fix it since "they all do that"). yesterday a service writer admitted nissan was aware, working on a fix, but didn't have one yet. 800-nissan1 denies that any defect investigation (or solution) is under way on this problem. someone is not being honest. the following seems clear from my experience and the other complaints on this site: 1) the defect exists, 2) nissan has failed to acknowledge it's existence, and 3) nissan has not addressed the issue (they are still producing vehicles with the same defect. i invite the nhtsa investigator to contact me, view my vehicle to confirm the existance of this serious problem. for that matter, view any nissan titan crew cab (in nissan's own words: "they all do that", even the 06's). two questions remain: 1) why, according to 800-nissan1 (nissan warranty center), is there no investigation under way of this important safety defect, and 2) more importantly, why the nhtsa site does not list this important safety defect under the list of investigations presently underway?
All passenger seat belts intermittently go to the child restraint mode when being used by in the normal passenger mode. the passenger must remove the seat belt, return it to the retracted position, and reconnect the seat belt. it appears to happen most often on a bumpy surface. this is a dangerous practice. some vehicle owners will surely disable the child safety function. others will endanger their passengers by having them remove the seat belts while the vehicle is in operation. *nm
While driving 15 mph consumer's vehicle crashed into a tree. upon impact, rear middle seat belt unlatched on its own. vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the seat belt needed to be replaced. *ak
1) a child safety seat was installed in the center rear seating position, and secured with the vehicle seat belt. the belt was fully extended to engage the retractor lock. upon removal of the child safety seat, the seat belt was allowed to retract. 2) the failure occurred when an attempt was made to extend the seat belt for it's next use. the seat belt was locked in the child seat safety mode and could not be extended, and therefore the rear center seating position could not be used. 3) nissan dealer replaced the seat belt retractor, and the new part is exhibiting the same problem. the dealer explained that this appears to be occurring in all titan's and the seat belt can be released by forcing (20-30 pounds of force) additional belt into the retractor to release it. the problem has not been corrected and the replaced part is not available. *nm
Consumer noticed that the rear middle seat belt buckle did not lock properly. vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the seat belts needed to be replaced. *ak
Dt: the contact stated the rear seat belts are not working correctly. when the seat belts are in lock mode and then released, the seat belts lock and will not pull out for use. dealership installed new seat belts, but the problem still existed. he contacted the manufacturer, and they had no information on the problem. the problem existed when the vehicle was purchased.*ak
