We have classified the 212 complaints from 2013 Nissan Sentra about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Bought this car, my first car on 04/20/2018. i have a short commute to work and the car seemed to fit my price range and didn't see many dire complaints on this specific model of car while researching before purchasing. until i searched rpm spikes and transmission slips on google after my 60 day limited warranty ran out. haven't even driven this car 800 miles and the car jerks violently on the roads, and at only 55,000 miles. it jerked from day one, but thought it was normal until it got worse. i'm just now regretting buying this vehicle, but there was nothing i could do i was in a pinch for a car i got bills to pay and a job i have to make it to. it seems like a lot of people have this issue and all agree the cvt should be a recall. i have to be honest i agree. i don't understand how you could sell someone this vehicle without letting them know the reputation this car has. i don't know how you could sell someone a used car to someone and know that persons car may stall, or jerk and cause a life threatening car crash. when it comes down to it, its not the money its the safety, the vehicle doesn't operate in a safe manner, it jerks, stalls, shakes when breaking all while not flashing any indicator lights saying there is something wrong when there clearly is something wrong.
Update since april - purchased car 10-22-15 inspection and said it was good. in 1-14-2016 car growling/city street. again inspection and said it was good 6-14-16 car in ,car growling in motion on street. again tested - good stranded (purchased a jump start) 8-16 2016 stranded in driveway 10-17-17 - twice car went into sport mode,on highway (50/60mph) no one touched anything-hands on wheel! they had car for 12 days and said nothings wrong with the trans. still happens..and worse. trans blows up while driving car. it was awful, had we been going 50/60 we would have been dead.no warning lights- stopped dead and abruptly on city street. had it towed in they finally admitted it was the trans from the start oct 2015! had to have a re-furbished trans as there was nothing left of this one,(car towed in-would not go into any gear). 1-16-18 car in for loud rattle. they said it was from the transmission being replaced. straightened the heat plate under the trans. still rattles 3-15-18 while driving with the new trans. car went into sport mode on city street, just like before the original trans exploded. 4-29-18 stranded in driveway after driving it 28 miles- the battery was discharging while driving- we've been stranded about 14x's. took car in -got a loaner. they said it must be an electrical problem and did a parasitic test. nothing wrong 6-26-18 went into sport mode driving for about 40 seconds -pulled over- shut off motor. 7-26-18 shifted into high gear again on its own while driving. our hands on the wheel, when driving. the car is acting like it did before the trans was replaced. their nissan corporate man said, it must be electrical why we are getting stranded and there is definitely something wrong with the new transmission they put in as it's doing the same thing as originally, before the car exploded and could have killed us.
My 2013 nissan sentra began having problems with acceleration as well as shuddering hesitating, down shifting above 50mph.,whining sound followed by the check engine light. carried the vehicle to the dealer ship to be checked out. i was told the transmission was failing. i would need a new one. i have enclosed the invoices as well as my different steps to try to resolve this as a warranty issue.
I was on thr highway going 65 mph but once the traffic slowed down, without warning i could no longer get going once i came to a stop. the car squeeled and even though i floored it, it stalled out. only after cutting the car off anf back on did it allow me to resume but it was a nightmare because traffic was backed up.
Takata recall driving on the highway and my car stall in front of an 18 wheeler. it scared the life out of me but as i drove little bit more it started to jerk and i could not go over 25. i pulled over cut the car off and turned it back on and tried to pull off and it jerked some more before it pulled off and then i could go only 25. at every red light i had to cut the car off and on just to get the car out the road. i finally made it to the dealer ship today and they want to charge a arm and a leg say my warranty ended at a 100k and i got the car with 37k miles on it. i dont think that is right. they tell me i had a warranty for a 100k miles but when it time to fix something the warranty is up. i should still have 30k left before my warranty goes out. by the way this started on april 23rd 2018 this and the same thing happened to me on my way to the dealer ship on april 25th.
On multiple occasions while driving on streets and highways, the vehicle seems to be stuck on a lower gear or not transitioning to a higher gear. the most noticeable issue is related to the rpm's getting extremely high with little or no increase in overall speed. the most recent incident occurred while on the freeway, as i was attempting to increase my speed the vehicle slowly accelerated up to 45 - 50 mph but the rpm's reflected 6,500+ before the vehicle would start to jerk at this point i had no choice but to move towards the emergency lane/shoulder fearing that it would abruptly stop working or lose momentum. this instance happened on two occasions during this drive while on the freeway and it seemed to stop after the second time i pulled over but only after i cycled through the park/neutral/reverse/drive/low gears a few times. based on this second instance, i feel this issue is related to the transmission for the vehicle.
Transmisssion is not shifting correctly it sticks and stop. our car has. 44,000 miles on it. it sometime will not go forward
Cvt transmission failed at 80,000 miles. $3,700 estimate to replace. car won't accelerate and could cause accident if driven on highway.
Cvt transmission problem when getting on ramps onto the highway, and normal acceleration, my vehicle is not accelerating. it is delayed in acceleration from stops or when needing to pick up speed such as on a ramp or when passing. it is not driving how it should under normal circumstances. it is very dangerous when the vehicle doesn't accelerate properly. this will become fatal if nothing is done by nissan who is aware that the cvt transmissions in this vehicle are failing and needing replacement far sooner than they should and that consumers are aware of.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a lack of engine power and would not accelerate even with the accelerator pedal depressed. the failure occurred without warning. trophy nissan (5031 n galloway ave, mesquite, tx) diagnosed that the cvt was defective, but did not offer further assistance. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000.
Complete transmission failure with no warning sign at all. a failure so traumatizing, it feels like i've been in an accident, and i'm weary of getting behind another wheel. i was driving along the interstate at 70mph when all of a sudden, with literally no warning whatsoever, no dash lights, no noises, just boom! my car began to shake so violently i thought i'd just been rear ended. so i'm driving at 70mph in the middle lane of i-4, and my car violently died. thank god the man behind me was paying attention, and had thought i'd just been in an accident. if it wasn't for him, there would have been no way i could have gotten over to the break down lane. if it wasn't for him, i surely would have been in an accident and possibly died. how does a transmission fail in such a spectacular fashion with zero warning? does someone need to die before nissan finally steps up for their error and stops selling these death traps? is it any coincidence warranties are being doubled across the board for all 2003-2010 nissan cvt vehicles?
Car failed to move forward. loss of transmission while going up hill was very dangerous. ideals high and intermittent working.
I had to replace tbe tie rod and steering gear at 70,000 miles in nov 2017. i've just been told that the transmission needs to be replaced and i am only at 76,000 miles. t am in an active bankruptcy so i can't replace the car because the car dealership will approve me for a loan that has 18 percent interest. this is cost me a lot of stress. a lawsuit needs to be filed.
When i press the pedal gas the car doesnt work well .i cant drive higher than 40 miles because the transmition doesnt running well and sometime i have to pull over the car cause it doesnt even run 20 mile .eache stops signal i do is even worst.all this notes are in the city streets i cant drive on a highway because it doesnt run over 40 miles
Car is jerking shifting is not happening. while stepping on gas pedal car is not moving. then all of a sudden it jerks forward. very dangerous. car transmission is going. nissan says no recall. this company is horrible.
The car started jerking and then making a loud hissing noise. the car was towed to aaa and they confirmed it needed a new transmission. i contacted nissan to see if they would help pay for the $3,000 repair after reading the numerous complaints from other owners. after 12 days they declined because it was no longer under warranty and they did not recall the transmission. all things they knew prior to having me get a diagnostic from a nissan dealership. i believe nissan is knowingly defrauding consumers and costing them additional money when they know they are not going to assist in paying the repair cost. also, there are so many complaints about this transmission, yet they refuse to recall the transmission. someone needs to step in and stop this.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. while driving at a slow speed and attempting to make a left turn at an intersection, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact stated that the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to university nissan (248 cox creek pkwy, florence, al 35630, (256) 740-5100) where it was diagnosed that the cvt transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 29964786. the approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. while driving various speeds, the transmission slipped out of gear on more than one occasion. cerritos nissan in cerritos, california was made aware of the failure and scheduled a diagnostic test. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: 30086087. the failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
Rec'd recal re transmission included this model and year. took car to reparair place. they tok letter and said they would take of it. when i picked it up next day, i questioned it because it seemed too quick a fix. they said "it was just the computer> as i was late to work< i didn"t have time to inquire further> two weeks ago< tramsmission failed while driving in a residential area. had to roll back and park in someone's driveway. got it towed to service place. now, they're saying no such recall and it will cost mr 0ver $4,000.00 to fix.
Transmission failure after 69k miles. the coned shaped pulley does not seem to be traversing properly to change drive ratios. seems to skip and shutter sometimes causing issues in parking lots that sould be dangerous. for example you may push the petal and very little happens push a little more and it snaps in and goes crazy.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. the contact stated that the continuously variable transmission (cvt) failed to change gears. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle was extremely slow to accelerate. crest nissan (6600 tx-121, frisco, tx 75034, 1-855-878-7690) diagnosed that the cvt needed to be replaced. the manufacturer indicated that, due to the title being salvaged, the contact would need to replace the part. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 98,200.
Automatic transmission- rpms don't match mph, car shakes when idle, noticeable clunk when switching from park/revere/drive, noticeable strain on car when going faster than 60mph. transmission blown at 30,000, repaired, blown again at 72,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. the contact stated that the vehicle would not shift out of park. when the transmission returned to normal, the brakes seized and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to hanlees davis nissan (5009 chiles rd, davis, ca 95618, (530) 231-3000) where it was diagnosed that new cylinders and brake boosters needed to be installed. the transmission was also repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 62,000.
As i was driving down the interstate at 65 miles an hour the car stopped accelerating. i was able to maneuver the vehicle to the side and call for aaa. the next day i called the dealership and reported to them what happened and they asked if the car still turned on and if so, did it go into gear. it did so i drove it to them 7 miles away. once i got to 30 mph, the rpm's went to 4 and would not decrease until the car lost all power. i was able to shut the car off and turn it back on to cete the drive. the car was diagnosed with internal transmission failure. i have brought the car to nissan 3 times prior and they claimed nothing was wrong and that this was normal for a cvt. once the car reached over 60k and was officially diagnosed with transmission failure they let me know it would be $4,300 to fix. i opened a case and nissan states because the car was diagnosed post warranty they will not cover it. i explained i have the documentatiom proving i was in there prior to warranty expiring and the women said that doesn't matter, the official diagnosis was post warranty eligibility guidelines.
Transmission failed while driving 60 mph on a busy highway. had problems moving the sentra over to breakdown lane due traffic and the sudden de-acceleration. the sentra required towing 60 miles back to our local nissan dealership at our, the owners, expense. the nissan dealership confirmed the transmission had failed, noting this is not uncommon with the sentra. our 2013 sentra has an automatic transmission (cvt) and less than 40,000 miles on the odometer when the transmission failed. the cost to replace the transmission was covered under warranty.
There is a known problem by nissan with the transmission shifting hard and incorrectly and not engaging in gear, resulting in the car driving at high rpms, and belt slipping constantly. i had my tcm reprogramed out of pocket because nissan wouldn't do it, said my vin didn't fall in the range of recalls on that problem. the tcm was reprogrammed and now my car is worse. i am a single mom or 2, working 2 jobs 7 days a week. i still owe $11k on my car and i cannot even drive it, nor do i have $4500 for a new transmission. if you look online there is forum after forum of this known problem and nissan is unwilling to assist customers and they say they have the best customer service. i love my car and i am willing to accept a rebuilt transmission but they are unwilling to help me at all. what do we have to do to make this a recall? it is a known problem on many 2013 - 2014 nissan sentra's that around 75k - 100k miles the cvt transmission starts to have issues, and that is exactly what has happened to mine. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Car continuously bucks and occasionally stalls out due to a faulty transmission. the transmission was replaced at 40k miles for the original owner. i purchased the car at 55k miles and all seemed fine. now at 70k miles and the transmission needs to be replaced again.
Cvt transmission slipping at highway speeds, randomly, transmission will slip going up interstate hills, cruise control on, going speed limits, transmission will start slipping and rpms will bounce up and down 500rpms, took the car to nissan, transmission replaced..december 2017....and replacement transmission is doing the exact same slipping... i have returned to nissan service, they performed software update to correct problem, received car back on 1-5-18, driving home, about 60 miles i begin up a interstate hill, and slipping happens again, i call nissan service and let them know the tranmission is still slipping, service guy says they have done everything they can... i have service warranty records and videos of slipping transmission... seems nissan service can not fix
Check engine lite comes on car wont go over 40mph. needs cvt replaced.
I'm a owner of a 2013 nissan sentra i bought 1 year ago and it has now had 5 transmission put in it. i have 2 children at the time the car became self driving rpm just kept going up without me pushing the gas the car has major problems and nissan refuses to think it's a hazard my wife almost lost her job cause of this car it about got us killed i'm stuck under fiance company lucky with extended warranty but i don't feel safe something needs to be done shuttering jerking no power when trying to pull out on the highway this thing needs to not be sold to no one they need to be responsible and take it back and allow us to have a safer more reliable car. consumers affairs website says enough multiple issues from all across the world.
While driving my car down the highway at 70mph the car jumps at 4k rpmthen starts jump badly so i left off gas and re applied the gas still 4k rpm and whinnin badly i finally make it home next day started the car and whinninh still come from transmission area car had 113k miles but has act up previously and had went away came back now it at a shop cause the transmission will not pull the worst car i have ever owned nissan needs to recall these cars or be responsible for it someone going to get hurt with this transmission and if my car cause a wreck with my 3 year old 2 year old law suit action will be not be taken lightly. 2000-2010 they gave extended warranty too 120k what about your new ones with only 60k warranty shameless i'll take a hit if it can't be fixed and my job is at risk cause of there junk no nissan for me ever again.
While driving the car, it sporadically does not shift gears sometimes causing loss of power and high rpm's jerking the car. this is very unsafe because you never know when it is going to happen. losing power can cause very unsafe conditions on the road when pulling out into traffic. it seems that when you accelerate rapidly like when going on a highway ramp or accelerating after slowing to make a turn, the car gets stuck in i would say 3rd gear and not shift higher. the rpm's skyrocket and max out, killing the power to the engine. then you have to come to a complete stop and slowly accelerate hoping that all the gears shift. the car only has 69k miles on it!!!!
When we purchased the car (new) we complained immediately about the transmission. the dealer told us it was normal for that model transmission. they didn't document our complaint. we told our mechanic several times that we weren't happy with it as well. he researched with nissan and was told that there was no problems with the transmission. we have since researched on our own and found out otherwise. the night that the transmission "went" i had been traveling on the turnpike and had to be towed home. the car seemed like it wasn't getting the gas, it bucked, smelled and sounded horrible. i barely managed to get t to a safe place to pull off the turnpike. i had my granddaughter with me and needed to be able to stop in a safe place. we have not yet decide whether to try fixing it or to lease another car. researching the problem shows many people still not satisfied after repairing the transmission.
This nissan sentra is not safe to drive. you can not get the car to accelerate entering the highway, have to use a screwdriver to get it to go into reverse, it makes rubbing noises and is a complete failure nissan should be proactive instead of reactive will take someone getting hurt before they do something?
Nissan cvt needs recalled. lack of power/slippage with transmission almost got me killed in traffic due deceleration and acceleration. very dangerous to drive now.
Car jerks and sputters when pulling off like the transmission is slipping. when accelerating, the gears do not shift when they are supposed to, so the rpm revs high
Car has only 13,987 original miles. while accelerating from a stop, accelerating from any speed, vehicle loses all throttle control / response, idle may hang at 3200 suddenly during acceleration then take 30-40 seconds to drop back to normal. you may or may not have warning lights and/or fault codes set. transmission shifting is erratic or none at all (stays in high gear). fault codes if any are most likely electrical circuit, low voltage type codes. warning lights may be traction / stability control, check engine, abs in any combination. the fault is moisture (water / condensation) collecting in a tail light and shorting the circuit which is connected to the engine / transmission electronics. the tail light may not have any sign of damage / cracks / holes but the water presence causing the short can damage or destroy the transmission if not corrected not to mention the possibility of an accident due to a stuck throttle at 3200 rpm in traffic. nissan is aware of this issue but has no recall at this time (waiting for the accidents i guess)
My car was jerking when i was going in reverse at first. now as i am going forward it started jerking. brought my car in and was told it is my transmission. my car is a nissan sentra 2013 with 70,800 miles currently on it.
Last friday the cvt transmission in my 2013 nissan sentra stopped working with 30,024 miles on the car. my wife was driving it when it started making a noise, so she pulled over. she said it would not move fwd or rev after that. we purchased the car new and always took it to the dealer for all service.
The cvt began failing around 45,000 miles (about 4 years use). there was a jerking back and forth motion and the tachometer would rev up above 2,000 rpm and then fall back. plus, there was a horrible, grating-type noise emanating from the car. the dealer at which i bought the car had gone out of business so i took the sentra to a different nissan dealer where they replaced the cvt with a different, "remanufactured" unit. well, just 2-3 weeks later, that second cvt also began to fail! i thought the car was going to die on a busy highway but, fortunately, managed to make it to my exit. i got to the first traffic light and stopped. when the light turned green, the car would not move when i applied gas. i shut off the car and turned it back on and could then finally get it to slowly move. needless to say, i returned to the dealer where the rep said it was really "unheard of" for a transmission to fail twice. but when i called a few days later, he told me that the computer had shown some sort of failure. now, nearly 2 weeks later, i still don't have my car back. i suspect that transmission #3 also failed and, perhaps, the dealer doesn't know what to do at this time. i do not feel safe in this car and i don't think i will ever trust another cvt from any manufacturer. i want to stress that the dealer has been wonderful! this is my fourth nissan vehicle (2 maximas, then an altima, now the sentra) and they were very reliable. i got nearly 180,000 miles on the second maxima and nearly 150,000 miles on the altima. but neither of those 2 vehicles had cvts! thank goodness my powertrain warranty is still in effect!
I was driving my car down the street and the car just stopped on me in the middle of the road. nissan knew they sold me a car with a faulty transmission and now they will not fix it due to saying it is out of warranty. now i am stuck with a car that i can not drive and need to come up with thousands of dollars to get the car repaired. 2013 nissan sentra transmissions need to be recalled and paid for by nissan due to selling cars that they know are no good.
Purchase a demo nissan sentra 2013 on may 12, 2017. return 3 weeks later to complain about the sluggish during take off to nissan south of morrow, ga. the service person drove it and found nothing wrong. aug 4,2017 whining noise while park and the engine is running, the service manager drove he said he did not hear but normal sounds but was told i needed the 60,000 mile service pack, which i purchase at the price of $307 on aug 4,. oct.2017, now the transmission is whining loudly and now they tell me my warranty has expired it will cost me $4,000 to repair.
My car had been "soft stalling" for a couple of weeks - it would keep running, but at just about any speed/driving condition, would either experience a struggle to accelerate/maintain speed (rpms up to 6,000 with no warning/reason), start to drop speed, or hesitate/kick back at me. i took it to my mechanic on wed, 7/28, and on thurs, 7/29, he told me that the transmission had failed completely, that it was cycling through gears, and dropping gears randomly. he said that he spoke with nissan, and because i was out of warranty by miles (72k vs 60k), there was nothing they could do. they don't issue repair kits for their cvt transmission, and a re-manufactured cvt would be $3900, with parts and labor. i owed $6000 on that car, and was forced to junk it. nissan should not be allowed to deny warranty claims on their cvt transmissions, as they're an acknowledged problem in other models.
The vehicle has one owner, used on daily route to work and a few short trips. 67,000 miles on the odometer. the transmission began to slip at highway speeds causing the engine to rev up and down 500 rpms to maintain speed. problem ceased while in cruise control. problem was intermittent. within two days before getting it serviced, the condition worsened. the transmission began to slip at slow speeds, all conditions, with the fluctuating rpms at highway speeds being 1500 rpms. the diagnosis was a pressure malfunction in the transmission. it destroyed the inner workings of the transmission. debris from the transmission was in the fluid, and the fluid was severely burned. the entire transmission must be replaced at a cost of $4200.
Transmission is not working
First had to replace fuel pump at 29,000 miles, then on a trip to key west, the car, starts to jerks and loses acceleration, couldn't accelerate do to the gas pedal unable to accelerate the vehicle, kept pressing until it started to accelerate again. had to turn around and head home. this vehicle a little over 3 years old and 30,000.
In very hot weather the car will shake when stopping or sitting at a traffic light and occasionally the engine will stop. the engine has also stopped while the car is moving. this only happens on very hot days.
Don't know what to do, the transmission noisy, slipping on hard acceleration not up shifting when going on the highway very dangerous, engine revs up but car is at same speed, have to pull of the road and start up again slowly. this started at 75000 miles and i took it to nissan dealer in elgin il, they told me that it could cast me up to 4500 dollars, it passed the warranty 5years or 60000 miles, now i got 101000 miles on it driving it to work and back, what can i do, is there any recall yet, please help us
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle jerked without warning. in addition, the contacted observed that the rpms increased to 7 rpms as if the vehicle was trying to switch gears while driving various speeds. the vehicle was taken to a dealer (battles nissan, 60 macarthur blvd, bourne, ma, 02532) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted and made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 67,000. *cn
Transmission has to be replaced at 34,000 miles, just got the diagnosis done on it today. couldn't accelerate in interstate traffic, rpms stuck. a few weeks later, was going downhill and car speeded up, again rpms stuck. this was on a country road
