Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2013 Nissan Sentra

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle lunged forward. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced hard shifts between gears. the vehicle was taken to glendale nissan (located at 484 e n ave, glendale heights, il 60139, (630) 469-6100) to be diagnosed, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure or produce a fault code. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 66,000. *tr *js

Cvt transmission needs replaced at 90k miles. google search reveals exorbitant number of nissans with cvt trannys have failed multiple times. nissan continues to use cvt's. why???? car revs high when started - the length of time steadily increases. rpm's show rapid and significant fluctuation. fearful to drive it more than the few miles it must be driven back and forth to work and to run errands.

Transmission died after 25k miles, and now the "new" one died at 75k. it always had problems: delayed acceleration, grinding when coasting downhill, and slipping gears while accelerating. it then started stalling out when going through intersections in town from a full stop, and really started to die on christmas when we were on the highway (it became unsafe so we had to pull over and go home on back roads). the dealership now has it and claims nothing is wrong with it although it can barely drive. nissan corporate wants us to spend hundreds or thousands on a complete "teardown" diagnosis before they will consider if they'll cover any of it. the car is only five years old, it needs its 3rd transmission, and it isn't even worth the amount it will take to diagnose and repair.

Vehicle has 68,000 miles. recently noticed the car slipping and trying to get in 4th gear. it also makes a whining noise when in drive and park.. when in neutral noise goes away. from what i read and talked with transmission specialist. cvt transmissions are not mechanically sound and fail prematurely. even when you service the transmission at 30k and 65k with new cvt fluid. presently my car is being inspected by aamco. i do not trust nissan dealerships.

The vehicle will be stuck in park when being put in reverse. when going down the interstate. it would go from 70mph to 0 mph all of sudden. almost caused an 18 wheeler to rear end the car because of the instant drop in speed. the rpm needle jumps up and down. the car began slowing down in second gear and then jump into gear and take off. if you can get the car into fifth gear it will slow down again then jerk into gear and take off. almost rear ended 3 people just trying to get home. there are recalls for cvt transmissions in that year make and model but when you type in the vin number in there are no recalls. do not know how deciding which models deserve a recall and which don't? i feel that almost be smashed in the rear should be considered serious enough for a recalll. i will not recommend anyone buying a 2013 nissan sentra. it occurred trying to put the car in reverse, drive, on the highway, in city street and parking lots trying to park.

Experiencing sudden rpm spikes during cvt shifts, lack of power, jerky shifts at high rev. left my 17 year old daughter stranded in rural area after dark. she was traveling about two hours home at posted speeds. sudden rpm spike with no acceleration. i was able to get to her, shut vehicle off and restart and got it moving. transmission "slipping", jerking and shuddering. contacted nissan usa and dealership, they want me to bring it in to check.

The sunday after thanksgiving driving on i 75 at 80 mph in 3rd lane passing cars major traffic behind me going with flow of traffic the car had no power foot to the floor with the gas i'm still decreasing speed cars honking finally able to get over had the transmission replaced at 55000 and now at 106000 it needs replaced again please you know nissan has a problem do a recall. when all this happened no warning lights no check engine nothing is it going to take a fatality for u to do something. if it wouldn't have been for the vigilance of the drivers behind me it could have resulted in a major accident and i had my 5 yr old grandchild in the car with me

Transmission is not working properly, slipping, getting stuck in low gear with out shifting, almost caused several accidents driving as car will not keep up speed, will not pull out in intersections etc...

Cvt transmission slipping: my 2013 nissan sentra is experiencing issues with its cvt transmission. my first experience with my cvt could have harmed me and the other passengers in my car. my car refused to accelerate while making a turn at an intersection while another vehicle was heading in the same direction. luckily the driver noticed and slowed down preventing a collision. it took 30 seconds for my vehicle to pick up speed afterwards. i had the same problem once before while preparing to turn at a stop sign at another intersection.

I gotten this vehicle from carmax at 53000 miles may of 2018. i took it back 2 days later with the transmission slipping they told me oh its fine. i even had a rental for a day. now its january 2019 and at 74000 miles the transmission is slipping and jolting sometimes not giving power in the middle of the road. my car comes up as not a lemon car but i went to a mechanic near me he told me he use to work for nissan and by even testing my car my transmission needs to be fixed and it will start again in the next 6 months after repair. my car is not safe to be driving nor will i pay for a vehicle that wont get my bills paid.

Bought certified used with carfax in feb. 2018. car shuddering/jerking/grinding when accelerating, starting at around 70,000 miles. i asked nissan about this and they basically told me i will need a new transmission - at 79,000! happy i purchased an extended power-train warranty, so hopefully it is covered. should've bought another honda or toyota.

While driving, my vehicle frequently vibrates and catches whenever i accelerate. i took it to a mechanic and the transmission of my 2013 nissan sentra needs to be replaced, though it is under 100,000 miles and i have only had it for 5 years. i was advised not to drive the car because it is no longer safe to be on the road.

Cvt transmission problems. shuttering, delays when shifting, rpm constantly bouncing up and down when driving, engine revving suddenly without gas being applied. vehicle just got to 71,000 miles

I was driving on the highway and the engine rev up high. i pulled over to the shoulder and stopped the car and tried to accelerate and the car would not accelerate but just rev up high while in drive. i cut the car off and tried to cut the car back on and the car would not start back up. it just made a spinning sound but would not start back up.

Car's transmission began failing without any warning lights. car would slow and not accelerate when needed. car needed transmission replaced.

Transmission blew at 39,000 miles. dealer said we needed an abs sensor, cost to us 600.00 so they replaced. dealer drove car and car didn't even make it out of their lot. transmission failure. 5 year 60,000 mile warranty expired march 2018. nissan not willing to extend or cover repair. cost to repair 5000.00 we bought car 2 years ago only had 25000 miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. while accelerating from a red light, the accelerator pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle failed to accelerate. the ignition was turned off and restarted, but the vehicle still failed to move forward. the vehicle was towed to mastria nissan (1305 new state highway, raynham, ma 02767) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed replacement. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000. the vin was not available.

The cvt transmission on my vehicle abruptly stopped on a 65mph tolled highway with only 48,000 miles on the vehicle. there was no warning, no sounds, no lights on the dashboard, etc. all at once, the transmission just stopped going into gear. the car would not move forward or backwards. we were stuck in the middle of the lane in rush hour traffic and came inches from a pile-up. the situation was incredibly scary and dangerous. not to mention, my daughter had just come out of surgery. come to find out, there is extensive information on how faulty cvt transmission is. we are far from the only family to experience this issue. it's extremely common. yet, no recall has been issued and there is no open investigation into nissan. is it going to take someone being killed? most likely. the transmission is faulty, dangerous and going to take someones life. nissan knows about the issues with the transmission and has done nothing. they have numerous tsb's on it. yet, they have denied customer's claims, have not extended the warranty on the part and do not take this issue serious. i urge the nhtsa to investigate this issue.

Complete transmission failure at 85,821 miles. stranded at major intersection. transmission replaced at a cost of $4000. nissan should extend the warranty on their cvt transmissions in all vehicles.

Continuous transmission revs up and down and jerks the car forward and backward. this is a newly replaced transmission in april 2018. the last transmission also had an issue when complained the authorized service center said there was no issue. and then the transmission failed right after it was out of warranty and nissan refused to replace. i paid $3700 from pocket to replace the transmission, and it is failing again.

2013 nissan sentra w/ 58,700 miles. the car experienced a loud whining noise, which progressively got worse until it started to shudder and rev intermittently until power was lost. the complete loss of power occured while driving approx. 30 mph on a 2-lane road in traffic, causing an unsafe condition. the driver was forced to stop the car in the travel lane with emergency flashers on while other vehicles passed on the wrong side of the road. upon restarting the engine, the driver was able to get the car to a safe location but the problem remained, intermittent revving under load, shuddering, and eventually complete loss of power again. the car was towed to a dealership, and it is being examined by that dealer now. all symptoms point to failure of the cvt, a common problem with a range of nissan vehicles that has been ongoing for years. note, 3 weeks prior to this incident, the same dealer changed the transmission fluid and performed other regular maintenance service. from the consumer perspective, nissan and this dealer are knowingly allowing unsafe vehicles to leave their lot and not informing owners of these issues.

Transmission slipping when taking off or shifting 85,000 miles

Vehicle has just under 60,000 miles on it and has began to stutter or shake when taking off from a light. also the other day when going to accelerate, the car wouldn't move even though i had the petal to the floor.

While driving my nissan sentra, for over 2 years it started to jerk while shifting in between gears and going from stopping to starting. recently while driving, i was getting onto an interstate from the ramp and my car would not accelerate. it took me a good .5 miles to get up to 40mph and a mile or more to get up to the speed of 60 mph! every time i would stop and have to start again it would take about the same amount of time to accelerate to the posted speed limit.

The transmission has an internal failure and it flutters. the car is 5 years old. i've already paid $1k because the air cond compressor went out and now they want $6k to replace the trans on a car that might be worth $7k. nissan na says they will not help cover any costs. even though they know this transmission has issues accords the board and they have extended warranties to the 2007-2010 models.

My 2013 nissan sentra suddenly lost all of its power in a busy highway. it is very easy to cause a crash and kill me. i got it towed to the local nissan dealership. i am told that the average cost for the replacement of the transmission can range from 3500 to 5000. it's almost a new car and the transmission failed out of nowhere on 78k miles!! just got out of the manufacturer's warranty from my understanding this cvt caused nissan to warranty the older models because of the same issue, but they did not offer the same on my 2013. however, from my research, it appears to be a current and ongoing issue with all nissans with a cvt. i am disappointed that nissan is aware of the common problem and is doing nothing to correct it.

My daughter;s 2013 nissan sentra started having issues with it sputtering and jerking. we had some maintenance on it even changing spark plugs and wires. issue wasnt as bad afterwards but then as the days passed it got worse. as she and a friend were trying to make it back home the car stopped moving in the middle of the street holding up traffic. a tow truck had to be called and it was taken to a repair shop where we were told that it would cost over $3000 to have it replaced. not happy about this at all!!!

Cvt transmission fail at 64000 mi. estimate repair 4400+tax

Bought 2013 nissan sentra used at 25,000 miles. no issues or problems with transmission until around 89,000 when car began to jerk while trying to change gears and then progressed to shuddering, jerking, etc. took it to mechanic, verified that transmission was in horrible shape and going out. went to nissan dealership where purchased. they advised that warranty was out and that nissan was doing nothing to assist with this. said they would be glad to replace transmission for $4,000. nissan needs to extend this recall. these vehicles are dangerous and nissan is aware of this and chooses to ignore this issue.

Random and sudden loss of acceleration as various speeds on multiple occasions

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. while driving 60 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact stated that the speed fluctuated between 20 and 60 mph. the vehicle was taken to a dealer (passport nissan, 5000 auth way, camp springs, md 20746, 301-423-8400) where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 114,000.

I purchased my 2013 nissan sentra new from the dealership in march 2013. my transmission was completely replaced within 1.5 years (28k miles) from purchase due to manufacturer defect. the problem is reoccurring about 3.5 years (77k miles). symptoms are similar to most reporting i've seen online. acceleration delays, car sputters, metal on metal sounds. my car came to a complete at an intersection with oncoming traffic coming from both directions. given my first transmission was found to manufacturer defect my 2nd transmission which is identically failing needs to be addressed same which it is not.

'takata recall' when i recently got this car, at first i knew something was off because it wouldn't accelerate like a normal car and it wouldn't go pass by 30mph on the freeway. i let a couple of days passed by until the last day before i told the dealer , i was an entire day turning my car on and off thinking that it will stop glitching but i was on the freeway and i was causing a lot of traffic due to it's malfunction. after that, they took it to the dealer to get another transmission or system called the cvt transmisson, they actually did change the transmisson and after that it was working well but wasn't satisfied with it, it started loosing power and there's times when it doesn't want to accelerate and i have to push my foot all the way in which is scary because there's times where it just throws me off since i have no idea when it wants to accelerate like a normal car. overall, they changed the cvt transmisson and i felt that it got worst and now i just don't feel comfortable with this car , i don't feel safe with it but the sad part is that i'm still paying for the car.

68000 miles and transmission is slipping and shudder when accelerating from stop. also abruptly downshifts and jerks while going at cruising speeds. it is hard to control the vehicle when it shudders.

Transmission shakes and judders. car bucks when slowing below 15 mph, clunks when switching gears, rpms are high and car seems stuck and cannot switch gears. it happens on regular streets and the highway and when accelerating from a stop. the worse is going down an exit ramp. very unsafe especially on the interstate to have the car suddenly buck and lurch.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle started to lose power and acceleration. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power train failed and the transmission cap was missing. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (quirk nissan, 600 southern artery, quincy, ma 02169) where it was awaiting diagnostic testing and repairs. the contact also stated that the transmission was replaced by the same dealer on march 7, 2014. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened case number: 32406354. the approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

The cvt transmission is failing .it causes the vehicle to shake and shudder when changing gears. the rpms will rise and fall by itself often. very slow acceleration due to the slippage of the cvt transmission. dangerous to try and merge with or pull out into traffic.

So many issues not even sure what it is. car will fail to shift into gear and constant redline, very dangerous when getting on the highway. car will randomly get no gas to accelerate until i turn the car off and then on again. transmission slips at 80k miles. or perceived to be slipping, car will drop rpm and then rise quickly jerking the car around. going down hill the car will quickly rise rpm over and over and the car will uncontrollably jerk very noticeably.

The vehicle was in motion at 65 mph on the expressway in heavy traffic. it steadily began to decelerate, giving no warning, with no lights on the dash or noises. as i attempted to accelerate, the vehicle would not respond to accelerator pedal input, and i had traffic moving at a very high speed and was almost hit by another car attempting to get onto the very slim shoulder at low speed. the car had 74,000 miles on it at the time of the incident, and had excellent care taken of it, including its recommended maintenance. it was purchased brand new in december 2012, and i am the only owner. it was towed to the dealership, where i was told i was out of the 60,000 mile warranty. initially quoted $4500 just to get the car back in working order, it took nissan consumer affairs two weeks to arrive at a figure just short of $1100 to get my car running again. a transmission should not fail in a vehicle at all, let alone one that new, especially considering the level of care that it was given. this is a potentially very serious safety issue, as i almost had nowhere safe to pull over. if this had been the multi-lane highway i was on minutes before, i may have not been over to reach the shoulder and could have been hit or involved in a serious accident. upon doing some research i found this issue has been encountered by a large number of nissan owners with continuous variable transmissions and the company has done little or nothing about it, and have attempted to minimize the problem. by extending "financial assistance" down to $1100, in my view, they are admitting guilt as to this problem, as companies do not give money away. i feel cheated, and now do not feel safe driving the vehicle i had paid $21,000 not very long ago.

My 2013 sentra it began to jerk and lose power while driving. the car revs up to 5000rpms went back down to between 3000 and 4000rpms. i drove to the nearest auto shop aamco. the mechanic said to see if it was under warranty. he said there were known problems with the cvt. we drove home and i called nissan (8883880318) and spoke to a representative. he asked for the vin and told me there was a "campaign" on this car. i asked him was a campaign and a recall the same thing, he said they were the same, different words.. he told me the cvt needed to be reprogrammed. he gave me a dealership. i called, made an appointment for 9:00am this morning. we took the car in, was told the car had been reprogrammed. we drove away from the dealership, got about one block and the car began to jerk and lose power like before. we turned around and went back to the dealership. i told the representative the car was still jerking and losing power. she said i would have to pay $99.00 for a diagnostic test. i did not pay for the test because the nissan representative on the phone told me the repair would be at no charge. when we got home, i called nissan, again. i was told i could not talk to the representative i talked to yesterday. this time, i was told there was no warranty left because i had 82,000 miles on the car. he told me the warranty stopped at 60,000 miles. i told him the representative i spoke to yesterday told me it was covered and i had looked online and nissan had added to the warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles. he said that is not for my car and i could join a class action lawsuit. i told him i don't want to join a class action lawsuit, i need my car repaired. please hold nissan accountable to fix these unsafe cars, because, nissan knows there is a wide spread problem with the cvt's. this is unfair.

I am requesting an investigation into nissan cvt transmissions after suffering transmission failure at 70 miles an hour while on cruise control on an interstate in traffic. rpms jumped up but was losing power and engine sounded horrible like metal on metal . able to get off before passing exit and limped into nearby gas station. towed to nearest nissan dealer after breakdown and told a few days later that something broke internally in transmission and will now have to be replaced after 115000 miles for $4000. car bought new in 2013. research online shows an extreme amount of the same complaints about nissan's cvt transmissions for years and nissan is not addressing the issue. nissan offered owners of previous models up to year 2010 to double power train warranty from 60,000 to 120,000 to address previous complaints but current owners are not offered this currently even though obvious problems remain with their transmissions. there has to be a fault with their transmissions. could you please investigate as numerous people are in danger if failure occurs in traffic and are suffering financially from paying for repairs from this problem.

Hello, i am a owner of a nissan sentra sr 2013 and it has 102,000 miles on it and the transmission (cvt) has failed and my wife was stranded on the side of a highway and temp. of 100+ for 2 hours because there where enough tow trucks in the area to come pick her and the vehicle up. this is very upsetting, we have owned other nissan's in the past and they had double the mileage on them and there transmission had very failed. there are so many complaints here and on the web with regards to this transmission (cvt) and even lawsuits. please ntsb review these's complaints and the vehicle because it's only a matter of time that someone could be hut because there transmission failed in the middle of the road and they could get to a safe area.

My nissan sentra 2013 has been recently giving me issues while i am driving. at 87k, this car de-accelerate suddenly while i am driving and causes the rpm to go up while the speed decreases. this is very dangerous as when the vehicle suddenly loses speed on the highway it could cause an accident. i contacted nissan north america and they stated that i would need to go to the dealership and get it diagnosed. the dealership stated that i needed to replace the cvt transmission and quoted me 4k for this. i contacted nissan north america and the case was escalated to someone named amanda in consumer affairs in tenessee. she quickly informed me that nissan would not assist in any way with repairing this vehicle because it was out of warranty. she also stated that her decision was final and that this matter could not be escalated any further.

While driving this afternoon on the highway in charleston, sc. my vehicle without any prior warning began revving erratically gong high then low. during which time my the vehicle loss acceleration while still revving. im in the fast lane!! so, as i proceed to move over towards the shoulder im losing power, trying to accelerate so i can move and it just revs. as, i make it almost towards the right lane i lose all acceleration!! all of it!! at this point im scared as all get out. i dont have the power to move, yet all these cars are zooming by me. my flashers are on, but i am in the last lane of traffic. i put the car in park, then back and drive and it starts to accelerate when i hit the gas. just enough for me to pull it off of the road. this is a very serious issue!! i have 78,000 miles on it, it has been dealer serviced since i purchased the vehicle. no check engine lights, no warnings. hell, i litterally just had it at nissan of charleston last week 6/22/18 and had a diagnostic run on the vehicle. nothing. these guys are gong to kill someone, i've just read too many reports of the same things happening to other people with the same model year. please do something about this before someone gets killed out there.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan sentra. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. alan webb nissan (3608 ne auto mall dr, vancouver, washington 98662, (360) 892-9004) diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: 319-401-85. the failure mileage was 65,600.

While driving the car will suddenly stop accelerating, causing you to have to let off and press down again on the accelerator. this occurs during driving and after turns.

Our 2013 nissan sentra with 112k miles, the transmission has started to shutter when shifting on city streets, gets stuck in second gear when pulling onto highways on ramps, and slips when at highway speeds with and without cruise control. this vehicle saved my wife's life while being our only transportation. she has survived 5 cancers but now we don't have reliable transportation. i can't get the vehicle to the dealer to have the two recalls performed on the airbags and anti-lock brake system.

My car has a defective transmission and after further research, i found out that nissan north america was aware of the defect of the cvt transmissions and hit it from customers. i got a quote from my dealership for $4,300.17 for a new transmission. i had to come out of pocket to fix it becaise i need my car for work.

I have a 2013 nissan sentra sv i purchased used. now two years later and outside of my warranty period i am going on 3 times within the last month and a half at the shop for what appears to be a transmission issue. they updated the transmission computer, didn't fix it, then they thought it was the mass airflow sensor, this also didn't fix the issue, now one week from my last visit to the shop its back in. there are no recalls however this is clearly a safety issue. while driving if i press on the gas it randomly doesn't go anywhere or struggles to accelerate. at one point this left me in the line of traffic and i could have been hit or even killed if the car driving toward me had not slowed down. while on the freeway i went from 65mph to struggling to get to 20-40 mph and have also experience after a 15min freeway drive it refusing to accelerate when turning onto a main street after a short stop. after multiple repair attempts and reading online it seems this is a common issue with this car. please recall!

My name is [xxx] i purchased this vehicle for my wife [xxx] the vehicle is 73,000 miles with frequent oil changes and check ups. the transmission went on this vehicle and i took it to my mechanic. after my mechanic did a diagnostic report and extensive research he found that this particular make and model has had nothing but problems with the transmission. i took the car to a nissan dealership who advised me that nissan said they are at fault and will pay for half the price of a new transmission. i am a disabled, retired veteran and cannot afford $3000 to put in a vehicle that nissan knows they are at fault for. vehicle only has 73,000 miles on it and my mechanic said that it should definitely not have any of these problems . i would like to know if there is anything i can do about this issue. attach are all the reports from nissan, my mechanic, etc. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
