My 2001 nissan sentra se 2.0 litre is in the habit of "dying" while traveling. if there were no shoulder to pull onto and restart the car a serious rear end collision would occur. nissan wants me to pay for repairs and will reimburse me if the 2.0 liter engine receives a recall like the 1.8 and 2.5 liter engines did for the same scenario. what gives? *jb

The handle of my oil dipstick on my 2001 nissan sentra gxe broke. i was told that i would have to pay $500 inorder to get the handle out. this has happened to many people and there should be a recall and should be fixed free of charge.*ak i still haven't been able to get the dipstick out.

While driving, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, who performed a diagnostic test to determine the cause of the problem. *ak the consumer believed the problems associated with the vehicle were related to recall 03v455000 and 03v477000. *jb

Oil dipstick handle cracks off leaving dipstick stuck in engine. the handle is plastic in a hot area being the engine and has a weak point on it. this is a common problem. see discussion board http://www.broomeman.com/mt/archives/001156.html. *jb

While driving, the check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained until the vehicle was turned off. the consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic was not able to duplicate the problem. *ak other failed parts were: electronic control module, catalytic converter, electrical coil, and the crank sensor. *sc *jb

I took my car to the dealership to have the sensor replaced due to a recall. prior to having the recall repairs done my car had no major problems except the service engine soon light would not go off (it has been on since 40k miles). now my car stalls every time i slow down to stop. if i had an automatic transmission i would have to pull off the road to restart my car. since i have a clutch i can pop the clutch to restart the car because i am still drifting. the dealership also tried to tell me that the service engine soon light was not on due to the recall but because the catalytic converter was not working properly. the service engine soon light no longer comes on, but my car stalls consistently. i will never buy another nissan. i thought they were reliable cars. but after having to deal with the service department and having a service engine soon light come on soon after the warranty expired i have learned my lesson.

On december 28, 2003, my 2001 nissan sentra caught on fire while driving through reno nevada. another car brought to our attention that our car was on fire. when my daughter pulled over and opened the hood, she noticed a small fire in the rear of the engine. she managed to put the fire out with water. upon inspection at the nissan dealership in nevada, they noted some object was caught between the catalytic converter and the car frame. the fire melted one cv boot.

I have received only one recall request on my vehicle since i have owned it in 2001. there are now several recalls on my vehicle make and model. i have the problems with my vehicle that are described in a couple of the different recalls. i called nissan to find out why i was never notified of the recalls listed. they informed me that my vehicle because of the vin number did not fall under the recall. i explained that i have the exact problem described in the recall. the told me that i am just having the same problem and it has nothing to do with the recall. *nlm

Defective crank position sensor, which caused engine to cease twice while driving. car was towed to dealer, who said they would look at it. meanwhile, went to nissan website and found the exact cause. i then called nissan consumer affairs and was informed my car should have been recalled. i then called dealer's svc mgr, who said he wasn't sure. i told him i spoke with their consumer dept and they confirmed the car had a recall problem. he called back 2 hrs later and said my car was fixed. i asked about the $65 towing refund. he said to call nissan consumer affairs. all owners of 2001 nissan should immediately be notified of this danger. *nlm

While i was driving down the highway the engine stopped running and the service engine warning light came on. it was very hard to steer while traveling that speed and to get acroos the traffic so i could pull off of the highway. i had to have it towed to pat peck nissan in gulfport, mississippi. they fixed the car and said that it was the crank position sensor. i asked if there was a recall on this and they said no. after i got home i looked on your website and found that there is a recall on this for the 2001 nissan sentra manufactured on january 2000 through may 2001. the manufactured date on my car is april of 2001. i called nissan and they said that my car did not qualify for the recall. i do not understand if my car is in the manufactured date why it does not qualify. this could have caused a serious accident, not only me but the other drivers around me. please take a look at this and see if the recall was overlooked before someone is serious injured. thanks for your time. kevin carpenter dt

Engine quit while driving on interstate without warning. engine check light came on. car had no power. car had to be towed. told that crank position sensor needed to be replaced. this was replaced and then told that vehicle was still not working and that the wire harness was broken. the computer and wiring were moving around. waited for this part from april 24th to may 31st. this part was replaced on june 3rd and was told that engine would still not run. i have been without my car since april 22nd; please give me more information.*ak

My engine failed again while driving 70 mphs on the freeway, the very day after the car had been repaired for yet another defect sensor. it was a miracle i did not crash and kill anyone including myself. each and every time i have taken the car in, i have requested it be checked for a short in the wiring. each time i was told no. i later learned thar meant if it didn't show up on the computer, then they wouldn't look for it specifically. following the latest hazard, i got in nissan's face. nissan found a defect oxygen sensor this time. upon retesting the vehicle, the emc (the brain of the vehicle) was found to be defective. i was also told had i driven the car any longer, the air conditioning unit would have blown too. well, that explains all the lousy gas mileage this past year. so, here it is a week later and my vehicle remains in the shop with a back ordered emc with no available stock date in sight. i am renting a vehicle and am receiving very little assistance from nissan as to getting a rental vehicle in the meantime. i am quite concerned i have purchased a brand new spanking yellow lemon. i am quite concerned this vehicle, even with a new emc, will produce other defective sensors once the warranty has expired due to wear and tear from the old one. there are 45 sensors in the vehicle and only 5-10 have blown so far. i am quite certain others are close to failure too. i am just as concerned when both the nissan representative and the service manager told me this part has been on back order for a very long time as so many vehicles have endured this problme, that the vehicle has not yet been recalled.

While driving about any mph, the engine will stop working without prior warning, and will leave vehicle without power. dealer was contacted, but vehicle could not be fixed. please provide more information.*ak

When i reported that the chirping/squeaking sound had returned (around the engine belts) to the service dept. at sheehy nissan in annapolis, the service person (mary) said that, if we can't recreate the sound the mechanic can't fix it. i proceeded to tell her to look at her data base for dec 2001, and she would see that it has been only a month and the sound is back, but intermitent, and the service manager-zeek knew what it was after they had changed out the (2) defective senor recall. she got impatient and repeated the same again to me, about recreating the sound. not being very educated or patient with customers, but rude, only served to upset me further about this vehicle and the complacent attitude i was up against. i thought, i would hate to think what would happen to me if one of those belts gave out. its my life, not mary' . i also told her when the belts make that sound, the engine hestitates. this made no difference to this "service expert."*ak

Approaching a stop light the engine quit. engine check warning light came on and the car would not start. the car was towed to tustin nissan and they replaced the crank position sensor. i saw a recall for 2000 sentra's but not 2001.*ak

This complaint has to do with the failure of the oil stick for the 2001 nissan sentra. i have owned the car for less than four years and have had two different oil sticks break in that time. the first time the oil stick was broken it was easily removed from the stem it rests in. on the latest break it has become lodged inside the stem. from what i can gather the standard fee most mechanics and dealerships range from $120.00 to $300.00 for the removal of the oil stick. the problem with the design of the stick is that it has a completely plastic handle that extends for a ways before joining with the metal stick. on both occasions the stick breaks well above where it joins with the metal component therefore making it impossible to remove with a magnet. this same problem has been documented numerous times online and i see it as a problem that nissan continues to sell this oil stick. from one online forum alone i came across over 60 reports of this happening with a nissan oil stick and almost all of them referred to either a 2000 or 2001 sentra. *tr
