While driving the vehicle at approximately 35mph the engine suddenly stopped running and the vehicle drifted to a stop. all attempts t restart the vehicle failed. the gas gauge indicated that the fuel tank had approximately 1/3 of a tank of gas remaining. i spent just a few minute searching the internet for people having similar problems with the same make and model (2007 nissan quest). the search uncovered lots of complaints about faulty gas gauges indicating improper fuel levels. so i poured a few gallons of gas into the fuel system and the vehicle started. i have since had the vehicle quit running 2 more times under similar circumstances. each time more fuel is added and the vehicle starts with no trouble.
on august 20, 2014 while driving back from va to md on i495, our 2007 nissan quest began to stalled and then the engine shuts off completely while we were in the middle of this highway. luckily, there weren't much traffic and we were able to pulled over to the emergency lane with the vehicle's momentum. we also notice the steering wheel began to stiffen up where it was becoming difficult to steer. at which time, we also notice that the fuel gauge had about 1/4 of a tank of fuel left and the display on the dashboard had indicated 72 miles left before empty. upon coming to a complete stop on the emergency lane, we tried to restart the car several times, but it wouldn't start. after a couple of tries, the fuel gauge suddenly dropped to e (empty) and the dashboard monitor displayed all stars (*****) which indicates empty fuel. after waiting for 1 hour, my friend came with his car and we went to a gas station and bought a container with 2 gallon of gas which we put it into the our quest. at which time the car started normal and we were on our way. this was a very frightening and dangerous experience for us. since the incident, the fuel gauge has been acting up and giving us false readings. just last week when we filled up our car, the fuel gauge was displaying empty. *tr

My wife was driving her car and it said she still had 1/4 a tank of gas but as she was driving it ran out of gas even thought it was showing the tank as 1/4 filled. we took it to the dealership and the told us we needed to get a new fuel pump and it would be $700. they told me they had never seen this problem before. i don't believe them and i should not have to pay for a new fuel pump for an obvious defect. *tr
Had just left work on my way home fuel gauge read just over a quarter tank of gas and hud on dash said 90 miles left til fill up.stopped at an intersection with a really sharp left turn,signaled left went into turn at about 20 mph car stalled all lights on dash lit up steering wheel and brakes became almost inoperable causing me to almost crash into several parked cars.i have 4 sons ages 3-16.what if they were in the car?or my wife or mother and that happened on the highway at 55 mph?of course i had to call for tow to mechanic costing more money.was told by mechanic to begin investigating possible recalls and or factory problems with this model make and year of fuel gauge/fuel level systems.have been looking into it for several months now and see that i am not alone in this.now my inspection time is approaching and check engine light is on due to this problem so there's no way i will pass inspection with this present.what should i do?!what is my next move?!call nissan?nissan should be responsible for this and work with customers on fixing/replacing these faulty parts.i am planning to call them asap to find out what can they do,wish me luck. *tr

I just purchased my 2007 nissan quest in may and after a month it started dying on me as i was driving. it was out of gas but said it had plenty of gas in it. it isn't consistent either, i could have the gas gauge at 1/8 of a tank and it would still be running or it would read above 1/4 of a tank and it would be dead on the side of the road. the dte gauge says i have another 60+ miles to go when it dies. i am tired of running out of gas because my gas gauge doesn't work correctly. *tr
We were traveling on the highway when our trip odometer said that we still had 60miles to e and then suddenly stalled. we were able to pull over but had no clue what happened since it said we still have gas. we called our roadside assistance who brought us gas along just in case and after putting the gas in, the car started back up. just this morning however 7/15/2014 my gas gauge was suddenly almost at e when the night before i was just under a half a tank. *tr

My wife and kids were driving about 25 to 35 miles of speed all of sudden vehicle was stalled. after towing vehicle to home found that fuel guage doesn't showing the correct fuel level. by god grace nothing happened to my family otherwise it would have been accident that too narrow bridge. *js
Beginning in february 2014 my quest, owned for less than 6 months at that date, ran out of fuel when gauge still read 1/8 of a tank remained. low fuel light did not come on, car simply stalled out and left me stranded on the side of a busy road. this had since happened four more times in the following five months. one incident left me stranded on a freeway offramp for nearly an hour with several close calls. i find it unacceptable that a vehicle i purchased from a dealer, less than a year ago, is this unreliable and untrustworthy! i don't feel safe having my family in this vehicle! *js

I've ran out of fuel about three times, the fuel gauge was reading 1/4 or more of fuel. about the third time driving around 30mph, my quest ran out of fuel but again, it read a 1/4 full. this time the quest become very hard to control to get out of the road. i called my mechanic, he sent a towing truck, and diagnosed the quest with a bad fuel pump. he repaired costing me about $880.00. he also mentioned that the pump went bad due to running out of fuel several times. around november 2014, nissan sent me a letter notifying about the fuel gauge malfunction and display and accurate fuel level reading. no crap, wonder why i was running out gas constantly and getting a bad fuel pump costing me $880. i called nissan demanding a refund for replacing the fuel pump, after going back and forth they denied my claim. i think is time to start a class a lawsuit due to unnecessary fuel pump cost and near crash misses. *tr

Fuel gauge system failure. both the fuel gauge on the dash and electronic fuel gauge indicate no fuel. this problem is intermittent and causes the safety indicator light to go on. i had this checked at advanced auto. the fuel level gauge is broken. i was told that i would have to replace the whole fuel pump because the part is not sold separately. $350 just for the fuel pump. i was told that not fixing the fuel level gauge would lead to worse problems with the fuel pump. i have been dealing with this issue for a couple months now. i have failed safety inspection because the safety light is on. *tr

In april 2012 the nissan quest stopped in the middle of traffic - the nissan dealership diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced along with the sensor - charged $694.00. on july 8th the car stopped and the fuel gauge indicated a half a tank of gas. i put gas in the car but the gauge did not move. in researching this issue there was a recall on the 2007 nissan quest because of the fuel gauge. nissan unwilling to repair vehicle. the first time this occurred it was very dangerous, vehicle stopped in the middle of a busy road - police had to be called to get my wife and daughter out of van until vehicle could be tolled. nissan states my vin # is not one of the recalled 2007 nissan quest vans. if you have a recall all vans should be covered and how do they get to pick and choose which ones. *tr
I was driving on the interstate when i loss acceleration and had realized my car had shut off. i was towing a trailer behind me and had to try to make it to the edge of the road. i was unsure of why i first because my gas gauge showed i had a quarter of a tank. i got fuel put in it and then it worked. this year i had my engine light come on and showed a problem with the fuel sending unit. i took it too the garage and had to change the fuel pump and sending unit. after fixing the fuel pump, i drove for 300 miles and my gas gauge only moved a quarter of tank down, meaning my fuel gauge is still not working. no one seems to know how to fix this problem and is unsafe if you are on a highway and lose power to your car at highway speeds. *tr

Problems with the fuel pump/system have occurred several times. on or about 1/6/2013, while driving 20 mph and coming to a light, the car turned off. the gauge showed 1/4 tank. the mechanic replaced the fuel pump and added 1 gallon of gas. next day, the same thing happened as approaching a red light. fuel level still at 1/4 tank. mechanic added gas and the car started. gas gauge is inaccurate and dangerous. in february 2013, on several occasions, after driving/parking the van, it would start and then turn off, start and then turn off. i was able to get it to run by giving it gas as soon as it started. on 3/13/2013, after driving the van and parking it, it would not start. it kept cranking, but nothing. mechanic found electrical problem in the wiring and was able to fix it. on 3/28/2013, the car started and the fuel gauge dropped to empty with service engine light on. van had a full tank of gas. mechanic replaced the fuel pump and said there is an electrical problem with the fuel pump grounding. on a nissan forum i discovered the following recall: "the recall affects 2005 - 2008 nissan titan, armada and infiniti qx56s as well as nissan frontier pickups and pathfinder and xterra suvs produced between january and march 2006 and between october 2007 and january 2008. due to a problem with a sensor inside the fuel tank, the gauges can show gas tanks a quarter full when they are in fact empty." i think the nissan quest should also be recalled because this is a very serious and dangerous problem which is endemic to these cars. *tr
While driving the vehicle on december 1, 2012, i came to a stop at the red light. when the light changed, i put my foot on the gas pedal and it moved slightly then just coasted, (through the light) and came to a stop in the right turn lane of the parking lot. fortunately, there were only a few cars behind me and i made it through the intersection. i tried to start the vehicle but to no avail. i called a tow truck and the local nissan dealership to let them know i was on the way. when the driver arrived, he put my vehicle on the tow truck and drove to the kroger gas island in the parking lot. he put $5 in the tank but nothing happened. at the nissan dealership i explained what happened. the invoice reads: customer states the car stalled out cause: gas gauge shorted out and stuck on 1 (that's all that printed). i had 1/2 tank of gas when this happened. i keep track of mileage and fill-ups. it took more days to correct the problem than initially discussed. they would call and let us know that something didn't work when providing a status update. finally they told us they believe the problem to be fixed. we picked up my vehicle on december 6, 2012, and paid over $775 for the repairs. i have tried to contact the dealership (left voice mail, left message with person, and sent email) but haven't heard back yet. i believe the problem i experienced is the same as the notification/ recall campaign and 1) my vehicle should be reviewed to make sure the problem is 'corrected' and 2) a full refund to be made as this incident is in line with the documented information in the recall campaign. nissan has the paperwork to go back and confirm this repair. the nhrta action number i found is pe14012. I was traveling on a state road at approx. 50 mph. i was beginning to start a curvy hill and pressed the gas pedal with no response. there was no engine revving heard and the tachometer had dropped to zero and all dash lights were on as if i had just turned the key to the 'on' position to start it. there was no low fuel light and the fuel gauge indicated 1/4 tank. i tried turning the engine over, but it wouldn't crank as if it was out of gas. thankfully there was no one behind me coming around the blind curve or else someone would have been severely injured or worse. i pressed the trip button several times on the data display and it was flashing asterisk as if it was out of gas. i walked 2 miles to a gas station and put a gallon of gas in the tank and the car van cranked right up which indicated the van was out of gas, but the fuel gauge and low fuel light was faulty. this has occurred 3 other times with my wife driving alone. once was on a u.s. hwy. it appears there's a bad fuse or bad sensor, but we're not sure and i've not seen any recalls on this. now we just have to keep an eye on the data display once the fuel hits a half tank. it's just not something you think to do while driving. i at least wish the trip display would pop up as a low fuel backup, but when your children are watching a dvd or the radio is on and you're concentrating on driving you don't think to press the trip button to check the dte. i wish someone would come up with a solution or show a recall. we are desperate and afraid someone will either be injured or it will do damage to the van. we can't afford to take to the dealer to pay a high price b/c my wife is in school. please help! *tr
