We have classified the 14 complaints from 2004 Nissan Quest about SEATS into the following categories.
Engine would suddenly cut off while in motion at 25-35 miles per hour. two repairs were necessary at a cost of approximately $500 to get the problem repaired. the problem was that both the front and rear crank shaft sensors had to be replaced. as for the seat problem, one of the release levers broke off completely. i have not yet had it repaired so i do not have a cost for this repair. i have to use pliers to release the lever.
The passenger air bag sensor does not ever come on. it does not register the difference in weight between a child and an adult
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan quest. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, a rattling noise emitted from the rear driver's side of the vehicle. upon further inspection, the contact noticed that the noise came from the bracket that holds the seat in the upright position. the contact stated that the failure only occurred when the seat was in the upright position. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 64,000.
In december of 2006 we purchased a 2004 nissan quest se. the first year was not entirely trouble free, the drivers seat would self adjust while driving. the dealer fixed it no charge. the in december of 07 the trans went out, again the dealer covered it at no charge, gave us a loaner and were done within a week. except for the inconvenience of not having our van we were fine until now!!! in june of 08 we were going for a sunday drive and the van just died in the middle of the street. nothing would work nothing, no power anywhere. we called road side and all they could do was tow us to al piemonte nissan in melrose park, il. the following monday, the dealer calls and tells us the ecu is burnt out, and has some corrosion. it's covered under warranty so no need to far right!!! a week later we finally get a loaner, ok not too bad. two months go by and we finally have word that we have a date when the part will arrive!!!!! the part gets installed but the van runs like crap "omg you mean they actually tested it"!!!! they now are replacing a cracked distributor, god only knows how that happened!!!! the dealr does not charge us for that, but the van still runs like crap so now they have to replace three of the 6 coils and well we had to pay over $800 bucks for that. totally not expecting that we had to charge it, putting us in the hole even deeper. you know we haven't spent alot of $ on this car but for a 4 year old car it sure has had alot of major components replaced. the the freaking dealer doesn't test the car, so we leave and the remotes, doors, sunroof, windows don't work. the center counsil is falling apart and they didn't even clean the '!@#$% car. i take it back, rip the manager a new one, he gives me a loaner again and i'm back the next day to pick up my van, now they clean it. it's been a few weeks now and the van is fine but i often think what would have happened if it broke down in the middle of the interstate!!!!! *tr
Tl*- the contact owns a 2004 nissan quest with an odometer reading of 38,000 miles. the contact stated that the controls on the instrument panel were unsafe because they were hard to use while driving. when the contact would try to use the defroster it was difficult because of the location on the dashboard and caused a distraction while driving. she had to roll down the windows until she came to a stop to turn on the defroster. also, the speedometer which was located on the center of the dashboard made it difficult to see. the driver stated that the only thing that was located in the dashboard with all the controls in the center was a storage compartment which was a dangerous design flaw. nissan has since fixed the problem with the newer models. the contact felt that the recall solution for the middle seat latch was a bad solution because they only used four plastic pegs and a piece of cloth. the current mileage was 38,000.*ak the consumer feels that the older designs she be recalled because it is too difficult to operate safely while driving. update 4/25/07*tr
Dt*: the contact stated while depressing the brake pedal the steering wheel vibrated. the vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined the front rotors needed to be resurfaced. manufacturer has been alerted. the consumer stated multiple componets such as the navigation system, the gas tank, the front end of the car and seats. updated 07/17/06. *jb
Dublin nissan service department will not repair a recall issue on my vehicle. this nissan dealer was to comply with a recall notice to remove my front passenger seat and ship it to a facility which would modify the occupant detection system and then return the seat. this was to be a free service. because the vehicle was installed with after-market leather, to complete the recall service, the after-market leather needs to be replaced with standard leather but dublin nissan service refuses to comply with the recall. this makes my vehicle unsafe to drive. *jb
I received a recall notice on my 2004 nissan quest. the recall was for problems with the operation of the 2nd and 3rd row seats of the miniwan. porter nissan the dealer that i brought the car from has made it very difficult to schedule and appointment. the will not schedule the work on the weekends and they expect me to take up to three hours out of my workday to wait until they finish the repairs on my car. the hours that they have are not convenient for a person who works from 9-5 and they have refused to give me a loaner car. *ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan quest. the contact stated that the vehicle's side electrical sliding door opens and closes automatically. the doors on the vehicle will also occasionally fail to open. the door will open so that a passenger may enter the vehicle, then the door will close before they are completely inside the vehicle. the vehicle has been taken to the dealer approximately six times and the dealer changed the sensors and readjusted the doors. the door continues to not work properly. the vehicle is part of recall # 04v186000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch), but the failure persists. the current mileage is 70,000 and failure mileage was 42,000. the consumer stated battery weak, dealer replaced battery. the consumer stated slow leak in tires, the dealer replaced all four tires. the dealer stated there was a recall on 2nd row seat, dealer stated parts are on special order. the consumer provided a copy of vehicle repairs. the wiper blades were replaced. updated 07/10/07 *tr
Tl* - the contact stated that on june 12 2006 while car was parked he attempted to lower the seat into the seat well, to do that he had to pull the seat back forward, and secure it with a strap. the contact stated that the seat weighed approximately 70 lbs. the contact couldn't get his hand out of the strap, and it took his hand down into the well, and the back of the seat severed the index finger of his right hand up to the knuckle. the contact stated that the strap on the back seat was the actual problem. the strap had a big red warning sign on the back strap, and that the strap was made longer every year. the contact stated that he has all information pertaining to this incident. he did not have a police report, but he had witnesses, medical reports and xrays. the contact stated that until this incident with the strap he was having difficulties with the vehicle. *ak updated 2/9/2007 - the consumer found out that the straps on the new models are long and there is warning label on the back of the seat, *nm
Second row bucket seat caught my right ring finger in the forward/back mechanism. my finger was nearly severed at the fingernail which resulted in a broken bone in the tip of my finger and 3 stitches in the emergency room. *ak

On november 9, 2008 a friend of my daughter was attempting to adjust her mid row passenger seat forward and her left middle finger was crushed by the mechanism for several minutes before we were able to get it out by putting the seat back in the original position. she was rushed to the emergency room where an xray was performed and she has a broken bone at the finger tip along with a mutilated finger and nail. this was very traumatic and although i have owned my nissan quest for almost 5 years, i was shocked at the fix the recall was supposed to have done. it does not cover the mechanism on the handle side - only the rear. the is an extremely poor remedy for this problem. we have been fortunate that this hasn't happened before now. *tr
While attempting to move the passenger side second-row seat back, i reached around the seat to grab the lever, and my pinkie finger was caught in the seat mechanism. at the emergency room, they determined that i had broken my finger and my nail had to be removed because it had been sliced through. i have lasting nerve damage and the bone has not healed correctly. i wrote a letter to nissan detailing this experience - i am very concerned about the safety of my children in this car and am afraid to try to use any of the seat levers again. however, nissan has not responded, after four months. this defect needs to be fixed.*ak
We represent a gentleman that purchased a 2004 nissan quest minivan. while sitting in the middle bucket seat, he attempted to slide the seat back to show his family how to do it. in raising the lever on the side of the seat, there is an extremely large opening (where the natural curvature of an adults fingers 'fit') which acts as a vice. he ended up with a severed finger tip. apparently the 2005 model has been 'changed.' however, the 2004 is the same on every one that i see. it can be demonstrated by putting a pencil in and sliding the seat back. it obviously snaps in half with ease. it is a very dangerous condition. unknown if any other injuries to other individuals reported.*ak
While moving the second row, passenger seat, behind the driver, my right-hand, pinky fingertip was amputated. i was rushed to emergency and they could not reattach it. i have a 12 year-old child and i am concerned that this could happen to him or another passenger or younger child. this has been a horrific experience for my entire family and myself particulary because this should not have happened while moving a seat. there is a definite design flaw that needs to be corrected. *ak
Problems with seat equipment on 2004 nissan quest.*mr the dealer order another seat but as of july 2004 the seat had not arrived. *nm

Dt: the brakes heat up and the rotors warp. the steering wheel would start shaking when the consumer applied the brakes. the vehicle was taken to the dealership at that point. the consumer stated it happened every 4000 miles since she has had the vehicle. it first happened in march of 2004. the dealership is telling the consumer that the brakes are heating up. the rotors have been resurfaced three times. they ordered new rotors and they have been on for approximately 3 months and the steering wheel is shaking again. she has also gone through two fuel injectors. she was told that she is putting low grade fuel into the vehicle. *jb other issues: the passenger side auto door would rattle when the vehicle was in motion, abnormal shifting, engine light had come on, rear wiper had broken, steering wheel would shake due to the brakes, the front left seat back was loose due to poor fit, mouding on the rear of the driver's seat was coming off, the fuel gauge was stuck on empty after two fill ups. *sc
A serious but non life threatening injury occurred to the victim's right ring finger, cutting through the nail and nearly severing the fingertip. emergency medical attention was required. while attempting to slide the 2nd row drivers side seat forward, the subject finger was crushed/cut by the seat support mechanism. the subjects hand was on the required lever in a normal fashion, a way in which no injury would be expected. a design flaw in the plastic protective cover allows for fingers to be in danger. a smaller finger, such as a child's, might have been completely severed. nissan needs to provide a fix to this design flaw to avoid further and more serious injuries from occurring. *la
Nhtsa campaign number: 05v474 1. sliding 2nd row seat forward. 2. pinch point near chair handle crushed the tip of my 3rd finger 3. nissan ignored my concerns and told me it was my fault. they were put on notice in december 2003. they also sent their engineer out of chicago to inspect the problem. they stated no defect existed and no correction was needed. nissan's file number on my complaint is: 439 2014 it is interesting to note nissan's planned recall is 1 day after the statute of limitations for my injury and the 1st reported injury you have on file for the same date which occurred in plantation, fl. i recent found out about the recall for reasons other than the injury. *nm
