Problems with 2013 Nissan Pathfinder ENGINE

On average, the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 21 038 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2013 Nissan Pathfinder

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who determined that the air emissions could have caused the failure. the contact was advised to visit a nissan dealer. the vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic who diagnosed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was taken to garden city nissan (316 n franklin st, hempstead, ny 11550, (516) 483-4400) where it was diagnosed that the catalytic converter and engine sensor needed to be replaced. the contact stated that the engine sensor was in the process of being repaired, but not the catalytic converter. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated, the air conditioning did not work, and the transmission failed. also, the vehicle shook while driving and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact turned the air conditioning off and placed the vehicle in neutral. when the contact restarted the engine, the vehicle was able to drive normally. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 81,000. *tr consumer stated no. i had no idea about the defect until it was brought to my attention after asking a dealership what was going on and they advised me to check for recalls on the model and year for my vehicle. my concern is that i could be on the freeway and the transmission goes out with my grandchildren which i have adopted and someone not paying attention hits and kills us or/ and someone else. thanks for at least listening. i bought the vehicle to have enough room to abide with the law and now, i was taken advantage of. *jb

I was at a stop light, when i went to accelerate the car began to shake violently and started jerking. i stopped at a gas station to investigate and the car hesitated to shift out of drive or reverse. i am having to replace the defective cvt transmission and have come to know the following: the transmission defect creates an unreasonably dangerous situation and creates the risk of a crash; it is inevitable that an individual will be injured or killed due to a collision caused by this safety defect. nissan's cvts experience sudden, unexpected shaking and violent jerking (commonly referred to as 'juddering' or 'shuddering') the vehicles hesitate when trying to accelerate, increasing the risk of injury or death. case 1:14-cv-24728 -united states district court southern district of florida miami division

While in motion, vehicle gas pedal ceased accelerating. immediately pulled over, could no longer move the car forward or backward. car was completely immobile and had to have it towed to nearest mechanic. mechanic indicated the transmission hose was part of the problem along with a faulty a/c compressor. sounds exactly like nhtsa campaign number: 14v142000 called nissan about this and they said they refuse to honor it because my vin shows it was manufactured at a different plant than the one shown experiencing issues.

Vehicle transmission is not functioning as it should causing the vehicle to stop accelerating while driving.

65 mph, vehicle failed to accelerate but rpms went up to 7000 vehicle shuddered for 25 seconds. next day while makig a left turn at 10 mph thru an intersection from a stop light, same exact thing happened. got to side of road, car refused to go forward. works in reverse but not forward. towed to shop where new transmission was found to be the only fix. vehicle has only 112k miles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving approximately 30 mph, there was a loud abnormal noise coming from the engine compartment and the temperature gauge indicator illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted and the engine began to overheat. the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and later taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the radiator fan motor assembly failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 57,212.

Vehicle radiator cooling fan is making a very loud noise. after some investigation i've concluded that there is a bad bushing/bearing in 1 of the 2 fans of the dual radiator (drivers side). the noise is due to the fan wobbling while running up to 1/4 inch or so. i have called the dealer to schedule a repair and was told that this part is on national backorder which tells me that this is a very common issue. i have priced one at a parts store and was quoted ~$800. this issue if left unchecked not only is very noisy, but could lead to catastrophic engine damage as this is what cools the fluid that cools the engine. i have also found complaints online of others that have the same specific issue with the same vehicle models. this is occurring while vehicle is in park idling as well as while driving down the road.

Seal on transmission leak and can not get out of park

In park, my gear shift will not engage so i cannot get out of park. this started happening about three weeks ago. in the beginning it would happen maybe one or twice a week. now its about every other time i get in my vehicle. it can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes before i can get it out of park and in gear

Nissan pathfinder 2013 revs engine and jerks vehicle while firmly pressing brake (at a stop light). at first, i thought it was just the wind, but it kept happening for weeks. then i noticed the rpms jump when it happened. furthermore, the vehicle would slowly roll forward if stopped on a hill, requiring pressing the brake pedal all of the way to the floor. just yesterday, it revved and jerked about a dozen times. the vehicle has the latest recalls done as of april/may when i took in in for service (rosen nissan) and they verified the brake system was ok. vehicle should not be revving and trying to turn tires while it is stopped.

Happened a few times (one too many) on the road, my car stalls (gas pedal does not work). also, back lights are lit after car is shut down. had to turn engine on and off till it shuts off.

Cooling fan assembly, bad bearings in fan motors. loud noise due to bad bearings in fan. occurs primarily when the air conditioner clutch engages and cooling fans come on. also occurs at highway speeds when cooling fans come on. loud roaring noise. i ordered a tyc623760 replacement fan assembly to replace the nissan/valeo m154880 unit with manufacture date of 12-15-2012 serial #towm157978. i am reporting this after reading how common this issue is in 2013-2017 nissan pathfinders and the rates dealers are charging for the repair. i saw online that dealers charge $850.00 to 1250.00. my local dealer charges $980.00 plus tax. i paid $176.00 for the part and it took me under 90 minutes to install after watching a youtube video. this was a repair anyone could do that didn't mind a little grime on their hands. it seems to me that instead of issuing a recall on a clearly flawed part, that nissan is viewing this as a money maker for their dealerships.

When driving the vehicle it stalls when pressing the gas to accelerate. when at a stop or turning when switching from braking to accelerating you have to press the gas several times to get the car to accelerate. nissan consumer affairs will not assist and the dealership cannot replicate. i dont know what to do

While driving the rpm and speed of the vehicle will not go past 1500 thus causing very slow acceleration. especially when trying to turn into any street where you need to accelerate faster. trying to de press and re press the gads pedal does nothing. our nissan dealership has said the transmission valve body assembly is to blame.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the engine stalled numerous times while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed which was unable to locate a failure code. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000.

Was smoking white and shaking now it needs a new engine. burned oil fast

Nissan-usa has known about a cvt transmission issue with this vehichle. we purchased it used in february 2016. leckner had the vehicle in stock when the announcement was made and did nothing to repair the issue. they sold us the vehicle without disclosing the information. nissan now does not want to make any repairs, though the car id deemed dangerous as the engine makes sudden jerking and shuddering when accelerations. there have been at least two class action lawsuits where nissan has agreed to fix the issue or change a new engine. when calling and dealing with leckner and nissan they keep saying the issue is closed and won't do anything.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost power and stalled. the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. the gear shifter failed to move out of park and the steering wheel seized. the contact waited five minutes and was able to resume driving. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brakes and battery failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. the dealer stated that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. in addition, the rear door failed to open. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

I've purchased this car 18 months ago, and just started experiencing loss of power and jolting. it's loses power and won't go. it just puts puts puts foot all the way to the floor. had to have it towed to my house. the next day it starts up i drive it to nissan they said i need a new transmission. i payed 30,000 for this car and 18 months later i need a new transmission i don't have the money for that i still owe 21,000 on the car. so it's sitting in my driveway.

Hi,i received the safety recall 16v-244 so when i went to niissan ancira san antonio texas with safety recall notice so they said we will ccall you back but 45days still no contact or call from dealer, also i define some detals, when i bought nissan pathfinder 2013 in january 2016 so seller(leif johnson superstore)to me defected vehicle &in april 2016 vehicle suddenly dead

A few things have been happening with my 2013 nissan pathfinder. i bought this vehicle brand new feb 2013 and the issues stared right away. the one thing that has been happening is the car feels like it's going to stall. i will be driving down the road or on the highway and it feels like it is in neutral all of the sudden. i will press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and nothing. when turning into traffic or just turning period, it does the same thing. it is very scary. i have 2 young children and this is very dangerous. i have reported the problem numerous times to the dealership who claims they fixed the problem or did not notice any problems i was describing. it seems to be getting worse as the vehicle ages. just the other day i was driving on the highway when not only was i experiencing this happening while driving 75 mph but my cruise control wouldn't engage (i thought maybe this would help keep the car at the right speed) but it wouldn't turn on . then the abs & vdc lights turned on. when i got home i turned the car off and turned it back on and the lights were no longer on. next time i tried the cruise control it worked. another thing that has been happening is my brake lights will stay on when the car is turned off, not every time but many times and there have been times i didn't catch it. just this morning my battery was dead and the battery is only a few months old. i'm thinking these lights stayed on all night. before trying to jump-start my battery, with the vehicle off, there was a clicking sound coming from the far right of the engine. we were able to jump start my car and it has been working fine today so far but i have an appointment at the dealer, yet again, for these issues.

Vehicle stalls at various times while driving, will not accelerate while pressing on gas pedal. has now happened 6 times in 3 months. stalled also, while on cruise control going downhill and would not engage until on level surface for 15 seconds, lost 35 mph during this incident. passenger side front airbag light is illuminated indicating that no one is in seat while seat is occupied. i have several photos and dates of this particular problem.

My 2013 pathfinder studders like it's not getting gas. it has completely stalled while driving in busy traffic. i took it to the dealership which stated they could not get it to duplicate the problem. this can happen on inclines and when i got to stop or slow down then go to accelerate against it studders really bad. it sometimes will not start due to not recognizing the key fob.

While driving, vehicle looses power, acceleration, pressing on gas and nothing happens, shift car to neutral and press on gas and rpm"s go up, shift back to drive, press on gas and rpm's don't move, vehicle does not go. all the times that it has happened we had to coast either to the side of road, or to next light. this is a rear end collision waiting to happen, this is definitely a safety issue!!! took car to nissan dealer, but since car did not detect any error codes, dealership was unable to find fix, but there is definitely something wrong with car, http://www.carcomplaints.com went unto this site and found more than 100 complaint similar to mine, about car loosing power. somebody has to look into this before someone gets seriously hurt or dies. this is my wife's car and i have a 3yr old and a 2yr old that she drives around, please, someone look into this. *tr

My pathfinder has already had the transmission replaced once and is still having issues. since this past thursday, it has been hesitating or feeling like it is in neutral when it is in drive. i took note of the latest one today. i was stopped (on a major street) waiting for oncoming traffic to pass. it did, and i accelerated to turn left and the car felt like i had put it in neutral. it was slowly rolling but not accelerating as i crossed over the on-coming lane and continued with my left turn. i check to see if it was in drive (it was) and checked the speed (20mph) because i had brought it in last week when it did it the first three times, and they asked me what speed i was going when it happened. the time prior to that i was changing lanes on the highway (infront of a large truck) at about 50 mph and when i went to accelerate, i got the same feeling. i could have been killed! the time prior to that, i had been at a red light. when the light changed, i crossed over the first section of the red light then turned left and attempted to accelerate but it (again) felt like i had thrown it into neutral. i pulled to the side of the road for a second to let other cars pass in case it stalled on me. the first time was just when driving down the road. this has me extremely scared as in two of the situations, i could have been killed if i couldn't accelerate to move and a car plowed into me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving at 40 mph, smoke started to emit from the engine without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 18,000. the vin was not available.

Tl*the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that when driving at an incline or at a stop before accessing a highway, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact also mentioned that the rubber and the roof racks deteriorated causing the rubber to partially detach. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 33,000.

When the car is full of passengers the transmission starts to miss shift causing a vibration. feels unsafe when carrying passengers. also vehicles backup camera is starting to act up. the video is screen has lines through it and sometimes the backup alarms deactivate. *tr

I was pulling out of a parking lot. i drove a few yards and the car would not accelerate over 25mph even though i was pushing on the accelerator. there were no warning lights, but the rpm's would not go up. i stopped and put it in park, revved the engine, and put it in drive again. it worked fine for about a mile until i pulled up to a stop light. as the light turned green, i could not get the car to go over 25 mph. (i was turning left at the intersection, so it was very dangerous that i could not get the car to accelerate as i was facing upcoming traffic.) i pulled onto the shoulder and put it in park again. i was able to make it the additional mile home but thankfully did not have to stop at a light again. the dealership has ran diagnostics on it and can't find anything wrong with it, but i'm scared to drive it again. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle jerked and failed to accelerate without warning. the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the vin was not provided. the failure mileage was 13,000.

Car was purchased new in the second quarter of 2013. in late 2014 with less than $40k, car began "shuddering". mostly at low speeds and when accelerating. dealer could not find an issue. driving back from vacation in late 2014, on the interstate, the car lost power and we limped off the exit after which the car was undriveable. nissan indicated it was an issue with the cvt and the transmission was replaced under warranty. looking back at the situation on the highway, given the loss of power, this could have been a lethal situation. fast forward to oct 2016 and at 88k, the same issue is re-occurring and the dealer indicated today, transmission will (again) need to be replaced. *tr

Driving home and going up an inclined hill...i noticed my vehicle(2013 nissan pathfinder) suddenly had a hesitation and started to judder abruptly...it happened at low speed of 20-25mph. nissan is aware of this cvt issue and has not addressed it yet. i read somewhere that they are trying to reprogramming the cvt and seeing if this resolves the issue otherwise folks have had the cvt replaced and still in the same boat....this is a noticeable judder at 20-25 mph on a slight incline. i am the original owner of a 2003 nissan murano with 88k and the first of its kind with cvt technology and never experienced this type of juddering issue. you would think nissan would have refined the cvt to a point so these issue would not happen....i like the cvt technology but now i am having my doubts. *tr

There is a sudden juddering shake that lasts about 4 to 6 seconds driving around 25 miles per hour. i have experienced the shaking during turns and upon hills the transmission feels like driving a stickshift and you finally feel the gear kick in and the after making it uphill or stopping uphill. vehicle drives smooth again. my girls are very scared with the shaking i have left my vehicle at the dealership pending a fix/solution. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle began to shutter. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the computer needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 8,500. the vin was unavailable.

Hello, we bought this pathfinder in march 2014. i was driving and i slowed down to turn into a parking lot. when i turned and gave it some gas. the engine and transmission was not working correctly. the pathfinder started sputtering, shaking and loosing power. i have been doing research on the 2013 nissan pathfinders. my research has come across that the nissan motor company know there has been a problem with 2013 pathfinders. and they have yet to put out a recall to fix the problem. i continue to drive with the shuddering, shaking and looking power. on 5/28/2014 i was coming home from work and slowed down and i thought the transmission fell out. i also lost power. it scared me. so i believe that some one needs to look into this problem. because i think nissan is not concern. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that while driving at low speeds, the vehicle would sputter and decelerated sporadically without any warnings. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 9,000 and the current mileage was 13,000.

It was time for a oil change and i was wondering why was it when you pull off the car stutters come to find out it needed a transmission and when the guy told me he even said they have had lots of them like that so why would you keep selling. *tr

Fyi...this has happened multiple times at various speeds. the engine will just shut off while driving down the road. many times before this i have experienced the shuddering that has been reported numerous times but when the car begins to lose power without warning it is extremely dangerous. my family and i have been extremely blessed that each time this has happened i have been able to get to the shoulder of the road. the only thing that works is to restart the car. two different dealerships have dealt with the issues and both have done everything they know to do. the torque converter was replaced and the computer was replaced also. we purchased the car with approximately 22000 miles so the lemon law does not apply to us. for the 7 months that we have owned the car, it has been at the service departments half of the time. it is very frightening that we purchased a "like new" car and now my family and i do not feel safe in it. *tr

I filed a complaint yesterday, august 27, 2014, about my 2013 nissan pathfinder confirmation number 10628699, and forgot to put on there that this vehicle also hesitates to go at times and when it does, it has a tugging feeling (that is how i explain it). like it can't find the gear or not enough gas. i would like to add this to my other complaint, please. very amazed to see that there are others out there with the same problems i have and they are also not being repaired. i feel i am the only one or that is how the service dept. at the dealer makes me feel. *tr

Car when slowing down and accelerate again was jerking or hesitating to accelerate. brought to dealer 3times already and said torque converter is the problem.for the last 2 visits to car dealer they just adjust it. this time they are going to replace the transmission. *tr

Sudden lose of power on accelerator for about 4-5 seconds on low speed. it is very dangerous situation as i could possibly struck by another vehicles from behind. *tr

On an intermittent basis, the gas pedal does not engage when depressed ? the driver has to release and press the gas pedal multiple times or hold down gas pedal and then the engine revs hard and the car suddenly lurches forward. it happens both when beginning to accelerate from a stop as well as when the car is driving and in motion and the driver presses the gas pedal to accelerate (such as when passing another car on the highway). by early april 2014, this had happened at least 20 times in a four-week period and sometimes happened daily. i took the vehicle to our local dealer, who consulted with a regional nissan warranty rep. he said he had seen the problem before, and they replaced the the brake lamp switch and relay. i have had one incident where it happened again after this work was done on april 9. *tr

While turning left, the transmission began to shutter and the vehicle lost power for 2-3 seconds. passenger airbag off indicator intermittently comes on with passenger in seat. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the engine would exhbit an abnormal whistling when initially started. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 7,000.

Vehicle juddering while traveling at low speed, it feels like it going to stall. nissan is aware of the problem but they say they can't recreate. they called in to mossy nissan in national city, ca to test drive the car with the foreman of the shop, and the problem recurred, he felt it, but we didn't have the computer hook up to the car diagnostics. i took the car back in for the same thing, i left the car there for 2 days and hey said they couldn't duplicate it. also it has a coolant leak that has not been fixed after 3 times. they smell it but can't find the problem. *tr

1. while attempting to leave a school parking lot (going in a straight line with other parents' cars) at 10 mph the engine shuddered and the vehicle jerked back and forth as if it transmission couldn't engage power to the wheels. the shuddering stopped after a couple seconds and i was able to leave the school parking lot safely. (vehicle has shuddered while driving straight three times in the last month.) 2. pulled into a roundabout at 15 mph and the engine shuddered, jerking the pathfinder back and forth. when exiting the roundabout at nearly 20 mph the vehicle shuddered again for a couple seconds, but this time it was not a violent -- it only vibrated the vehicle. (vehicle has shuddered while turning at least 12 times in the last month.) 3. after turning right onto a straight street and trying to accelerate, the engine felt as if half the power were taken away. the engine revved up, but the acceleration was weak. (this has happened twice in a month.) *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer or mechanic for a diagnostic test. the failure mileage was 14,000.

2013 nissan pathfinder shudders at low speed or accelerating from stop position. have taken vehicle to dealer several times (12) since sept 2013. replaced transmission 3 times, transmission software update performed twice. each time afterwards i was told some made up story from it's working fine now to you must have been spinning your tires on the wet roads. i took videos of the violent shuddering and loss of acceleration to the service dept and was told there is no fix available for this transmission issue and to drive it as best you can. 55k for a new car to drive the best i can!!!??? contacted nissan corporation to file a complaint, after 5 days was denied any relief. contacted a lemon law attorney and filed a claim. within 2 days of nissan being notified by the attorney, they were willing to settle. i received a full buy out and refund of all deposits and monthly payments. god riddance!!!! buyer beware! *tr

Purchased in aug 2013. sept 2013 at low speeds under 25 mph, the vehicle begins to shudder and looses acceleration. nissan dealership could not find a problem. oct 2013 my vehicle was back in for the same issue. this time nissan replaced the transmission. nov 2013 back to the dealer for same issue, was told a software update was just released for a computer upgrade for the transmission. problem still existed. returned a 4th time in dec 2013 and was told i must have been spinning my wheels in the snow, no problems were found. in addition to the transmission problems, the roof started leaking and the water ran behind the dashboard. a gasket needed to be replaced, shortly after i began to have electronic issues with wipers, volume control for bluetooth, radio. some type of module was replaced this took two return trips before a problems was found. again within a month these electrical issues returned. on monday 3/24 the transmission once again failed as i was making a left turn from a stop. with this incident i was almost killed by a tractor trailer because i was stuck in the middle of the intersection and could not get the vehicle to move. luckily the truck was able to swerve behind me a the last moment to avoid the collision. restarting the car several times cleared the problem and was immediately took it back to my dealership. i explained everything that has been happening with my vehicle since purchased in aug 2013, 33 days of service so far and no resolution. i have also filed a complaint with nissan consumer affairs, case # [xxx]. nissan admitted there is a problem with the transmission but does not have a fix. at this time the vehicle is not safe to drive and the dealer has put me in a free loaner car until they have a resolution. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
