Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

Purchased 2007 nissan pathfinder brand new. brought to nissan dealer due to check engine light on dashboard. diagnosis performed and determined radiator/transmission fluid/coolant leaking into transmission. estimated repair $6000 to replace radiator/thermostat/transmission. at 140000 miles, nissan states no longer under powertrain warranty. declined service. *tr

Nissan new about this problem for years and done nothing about it. their defective radiator is leaking into the transmission and causing my transmission to fail, and they have the balls to ask me to pay for it. i have had nothing but nissan vehicles for the last 20 years and was about to trade in for a new maxima. oh well maybe it is time to change to a different brand. *tr

My pathfinder broke down due to the transmission failing while driving. i was just pulling into my housing development and had to kill and restart the truck to get it to make it into the driveway. apparently this is a known issue by nissan, where there's a crack that allows the radiator coolant and transmission fluid to mix, causing the transmission to fail. this is extremely wrong that a consumer must pay out of pocket for a known and acknowledged flaw in the manufacturer's design.

I just bought this suv from a used car lot back on feb 16th 2015 i started to notice a problem with the transmission shifting funny so i had a 3 month warranty from the used car lot i purchased it from. i took it to a nissan dealership to have a dyno test,to figure out exactly what was going on. i get a call from them 2 hrs later saying the radiator bleed into the transmission and was not lubing the gears properly switched caused the transmission to sleep and as a result of this i need a new transmission for 6050.00 for both +labor ext. i call the lot i purchased this from and he stays there is nothing he can do for me the 3 month power train warranty i have was void because the radiator caused the problem i've done my research on this problem over 600+ complaints and problems from this very same thing i will never buy another nissan in my life. *tr

We purchased the vehicle 31 days ago under the assumption there were no major problems as it came from a small dealer lot. two weeks after driving it, we noticed it has shifting problems between 3rd and 4th and at 40mph it vibrates. we took the vehicle to nissan and had a diagnostics run on it which revealed the radiator coolant is leaking into the transmission, therefore causing the transmission to go bad. we contacted our warranty company, as we have a 90 day powertrain warranty and it is not covered at all. we contacted the dealer lot we purchased it from and so far, nothing is being done. i have done quite a bit of research on this issue and noticed several people have filed complaints about the same exact issue with these vehicles. curious to know why a recall hasn't been issued yet? *tr

My 2007 pathfinder has been shifting rough and sounds like i am driving across "rumble strips" used on the road to keep drivers awake. i went to the dealer to get an oil change and explained the issue. after they checked the car out they told me i had power steering fluid in my radiator and coolant in my power steering assembly. when i asked how that could possibly happen, the tech tried to assure me that this is what happens when radiator lines fail. i told them i had never heard of that and wanted to know how this could happen. they told me it would cost $5,250.00 to replace the radiator. the service tech and service manager acted like they knew nothing and suggested i call nissan north america...i did. they told me that since i had reported my issue to the better business bureau my case was sent to the arbitration department. the arbitration guy called and told me my vehicle was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do. i did some research online and found that nissan has known of this problem since 2005. nissan lost a class action suit for this problem but the remedy was to extend the warranty for 100,000 miles. i'm confused because i do not understand how a manufacturer can warranty away a defect. from my research the average mileage for this problem is 112,000 miles. my car is slowly becoming non drivable. i accelerated out of a parking lot but the car moved out into traffic and started rumbling but would not accelerate any further. i almost got hit by another car. why is the consumer responsible for a known defect? isn't a warranty for parts that are manufactured correctly? *tr

Radiator failure (known nissan defect) caused coolant to mix with transmission fluid and destroyed the transmission. this was a $4,600 repair. nissan covered $0.00. *tr

I noticed my 2007 pathfinder's heater would only work when the car was moving but, figured it was something insignificant and would get it fixed soon. i then started to notice my transmission slipping and stalling out around 40 mph. i decided i better get it into the shop before i was stranded somewhere. before taking my car into the shop, i figured i'd check the internet and make sure there weren't any recalls on the heating system. i typed in "2007 nissan pathfinder" on google and it auto-filled "transmission problems" - not a good sign. apparently, nissan was aware of the faulty radiators in these vehicles which leak antifreeze in to the transmission and destroy the drive train, yet did nothing about it.. post after post described the exact same issues i was having with my car - people were describing how their cars were getting stuck in high or low gears going down the highway and it scared me to death! i immediately called two local nissan dealerships and gave them my vin and mileage. i was informed, due to some worthless settlement with nissan, my portion of the cost would be $3,000. here is what most infuriates me about this situation: 1. nissan was obviously aware of this issue many years ago so why didn't they recall the radiator and save us this trouble and expense? does someone have to die before something is done? i'm sure it's only a matter of time with vehicles getting stuck in high gear or stalling out on the interstate! 2. who did this class action suit help exactly? sounds like nissan definitely got the bigger end of the stick. when it all boils down, i'm guessing they are out very little, if any, money at all. 3. what happened to customer service? this isn't just bad service - it's bad business. it's absurd that car companies are allowed to sell faulty vehicles without repercussion. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. while driving at various speeds, an abnormal roaring sound emitted from the transmission. the transmission pulled when the vehicle was driving at a consistent speed. the dealer diagnosed that the antifreeze was mixing with the transmission. as a result, the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 98,000.

I bought the vehicle a year ago at 79,000 miles. in january of 2015, i hit the 100,000 mile mark and almost immediately started having transmission problems. loud and jerky shifting and smelling foul in the air conditioner. nissan dealership said that there was an issue and since i was out of warranty, (100,000 miles) that they weren't liable. he said i could drive it because it shouldn't break down for another few thousand miles. so i just parked it. i would only drive it if i absolutely had no other choice. friday, may 15 2015 i was coming home from a doctors appointment and the vehicle completely broke down. the transmission went out and i was in the middle of a busy road with my 4 year old in the car with me. at 40 mph, the rpm was at almost 5,000. i pulled over to call my husband and when we put it in reverse to back out of the parking space, it wouldn't go into reverse. i had to tow it home and it's completely broken down. i don't have 4,000 to spend on a transmission and radiator.

The transmission cooler leaked coolant into the transmission causing the transmission to fail unexpectedly while driving down the highway at a speed of 40-45 mph

Bought a 2007 nissan pathfinder from sun toyota npr. paid 15000.within the 1st year 4 tires,4 brakes, battery, radiator, and now the transmission locks up...still owe 13000 what do i do....pay for a boat anchor or ruin my credit and let them repo it..... *tr

Radiator transmission coolant leak. radiator fluid leaked into the transmission and transmission fluid leak into the radiator due to a faulty radiator coolant line. transmission is now slipping at third gear. nissan dealer quote to replace both radiator and transmission $6,600 change. *tr

I noticed my vehicles transmission slipping when i was driving it around 3rd to 4th gear. further review found that my vehicles radiator coolant is leaking into my transmission. the radiator fluid is leaking into transmission and transmission fluid is leaking and mixing in my radiator. *tr

Vehicle starts shuddering and jerking at 45 miles per hour.... heater only blows hot air when car is moving, blows cold air when idling. *tr

Transmission of my nissan pathfinder 2007 failed. the radiator spilled the cooling liquid into the transmission, which then proceeded to cause irrepairable damage to the transmission. transmission replaced with a rebuilt transmission

Radiator fluid leaking into transmission causing us to fully replace both radiator and transmission. covered by a $2,500 deductible plus tax. *tr

Radiator of my nissan pathfinder 2007 se failed. the radiator rusted/rotted away and spilled radiator fluid into the transmission, which then caused serious problems to the transmission and needing both replaced with new hoses, clamps etc.

Defective radiator caused coolant contamination with transmission fluid. *tr

I have a 2007 nissan pathfinder that started making loud rumbling noises while driving. we replaced the radiator after the car over heated and a milky substance leaked. we've had the transmission flushed twice. we were told by a mechanic that the radiator liquid mixed into the transmission. i'm very disappointing to find that there are so many others with the same issue and that nissan is doing nothing to help.

Have experiences shudder while driving over last few months. on date of incident, i pulled over after one such shudder, then continued and had no torque but was able to proceed, as if lower gears were no longer working. this issue continued while accelerating after every stop light and sign. got home (with sick child) and shut down vehicle. tried to start 30 minutes later and would not restart. towed to mechanic. *tr

I was driving to work traveling on the highway going approximately 65 mph when the truck started to over heat and the transmission started to slip out of over drive. i pulled off the highway and stopped at an auto parts store. i pulled the transmission dip stick. it was milky. i also found the coolant overflow was bubbling out a mix of milky fluids. i had the car towed to a local garage and they explained the issue. the radiator had failed and blew apart inside, which created an issue with the transmission line inside the radiator. the coolant mixed with the transmission fluid. the garage replaced the radiator and flushed the transmission fluid. this cost me $650. the transmission wasn't right from this point on. a few months later the same thing happened. i have replaced the radiator this time myself and took it to the garage to have the transmission flushed. at this point the transmission slips into every gear and will continuously slip if its in overdrive. the car is un drivable and has been sitting in my driveway for almost a year now. transmissions for this car are over $2500 and i just cant afford to put one into it

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after several attempts. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the radiator had an internal crack that leaked fluid into the transmission, causing damage to the components. as a result, the transmission and the radiator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 124,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. when the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate and idled highly. the contact stated that radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission. the dealer stated that the radiator and transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

Started with a clicking noise then started high gear started shimming now stuck in high gear & have antifreeze in transmission. *tr

Radiator cracked and mixing of coolant with transmission fluid. radiator needed replaced. *tr

Transmission fluid and radiator fluid mixing somewhere along the transmission coolant route, causing extensive damage to the transmission. required replacement of both major items. *tr

The transmission began to slip and the radiator fluid overflow cannister started to expel a purple liquid. car was found to have a cracked transmission cooling tube in the base of the radiator and the antifreeze had mixed with the transmission fluid. found out on line that this is a very common problem that nissan refuses to acknowledge as a defect. radiator replaced and cooling system flushed along with the required transmission flushing and fluid replacement. repairs became very expensive. only hope transmission doesn't fail next. *tr

Discovered a small pool of purple liquid under front left tire of my 2007 nissan pathfinder in the garage yesterday. thought that must not be good, so i started doing some research online. behold, discovered it was most likely a radiator leak and most likely leaked into transmission as well. took the vehicle in today, and my concerns were confirmed. radiator replacement = $800. transmission is working normally right now, but from what i can tell the damage may already be done and its only a matter of time before catastrophic transmission failure +$4000. the issue i have with this whole situation is nissan is very aware of this defect, yet did not issue a recall. all they did was extend radiator/transmission warranty. this warranty does not apply to my vehicle being over 100k miles. all nissan had to do was issue a recall, fix the defective radiator (probably a $500 fix for them) instead, they ignored it, and the customer is stuck with a $5000 fix they did not even see coming due to them not notifying us about it. i am not pleased. *tr

Vehicle brought in for oil change at the nissan dealer where purchased and serviced. told that my transmission was suspect, may need to be replaced due to cross contamination of coolant and atf. dealer would not address the problem. *tr

Transmission on the pathfinder was very rough shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. we returned it to a dealer, who said it needed a new transmission. it seems that this has been a very common problem, and it seemed the company should have done more to remedy the problem than just hoping the newest extended warranties ran out before the cars needed repairs. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 60 mph, the vehicle started to jerk violently and the vehicle reduced speed on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer more than five times and they were not able to replicate or diagnose the failure. the vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer, who provided a transmission tune up and the failure recurred. the vehicle was then taken back to the authorized dealer who diagnosed that there was a radiator leak into the transmission coolant and the dealer did not indicate where the fracture was coming from which was causing the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure several times. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

Fluid leaked from the radiator into the transmission causing the transmission to fail and need to be replaced. *tr

While driving on the highway we were intermittently losing power in the mountains leading to unsafe conditions due to mismatched speeds compared to the surrounding traffic. *tr

At acceleration or while driving at lower speeds the transmission shudders, i am aware of a poorly settled class action lawsuit, however it does nothing to protect vehicles above 100,000 miles. the radiator is documented for cracking and leaking coolant into the transmission. this is my first vehicle purchase and i can assure you i will never purchase a nissan product again,i realize all vehicles break down however nissan was aware of the common problem and continued to disregard the value of their brand by neglecting to recall and repair this common failure. *tr

I have a 2007 pathfinder with 79,541 mile i have the same problem alot of people on this site has with the radiator leaking into the transmission, i took it to the dealership for a oil change and they told me i have a radiator creak that leaking into my transmission and its dangerous to drive i cant drive it at all and they have to replace the radiator and transmission because it has a mix of color like brown so they told me they going to order the part i ask them for a rental car because i was going on vacation until my truck get fix they said they was going to try to get me one that was on june 30th and on thursday july 3th they call me to pick up my truck because the engine light didn't come on so they want me to drive it until the engine light go on, remember a few days ago they told me not to drive it because it was dangerous to drive i think they want me to drive so it can go over the 8 years / 80,000 mile warranty and pay a copay of $2,500 and i really don't have that money and i'm still paying for the truck they want me to take it out of they dealership like that, i'm scare to drive it i have a daughter and my dog i take with me and scare something its going to happen to us please help me anyone thank you *tr

Radiator fluid mixed with my transmission fluid, making the car undriveable. at 65 mph the vehicle began to slow as the rpm's were increasing. the vehicle then slowed to only 40mph, and we barely got the car off the hwy. then, eventhough in drive, the vehicle would not move; like it was put in neutral. looked up issue online, and it is another known nissan recall; but they limit the amount of miles that you can have to receive any reimbursement. basically, i will get no relief for this known defect. i did get a recall notice but my vehicle was having no issues at that time, and now at 18 months later my vehicle is toast. i will never buy a nissan again. *tr

Transmission problems that everybody is complaining about has hit me as well. this is really bad that nissan is not doing anything about. what is there to investigate? i don't understand, are all of these people out of their mind? this must be recalled and recalled fast. *js

Transmission failed, had to replace transmission, radiator, motherboard for computer inside transmission and had to have locksmith reprogram security system. *tr

I purchased my pathfinder used. with 78,000 miles and within 10 days of having it the transmission dropped completely. well we took it to the dealer and demanded they make right..they paid our extended warranty never paid for our rental car and never bothered to tell us there was a defect on my vehicle! we were driving and noticed the transmission slipping and the truck vibrating very loud and vigorously when going into 3rd or 4th gear at around 50 mph. but they had told me it was my imagination. well 10 days from the day i drove it home i guess it wasn't just my imagination because we lost all acceleration power. the truck was running but wouldn't not move. here i am a year later googling why my truck keeps screwing up and boy what do i find???? i'm very livid and can't believe that nissan has decided to fatten their wallets instead of helping it's consumers and making things right. i had a new transmission and new radiator put in. and a year later i'm fighting the same problem all over again. if i'm idle or stay in one spot for a few minutes my truck is over heating and not only that but it's spewing coolant out the reservoir. i have had it in the shop numerous times and no one gives a crap! i was told it was an air pocket and i'm not stupid especially now that i'm reading all the other complaints. this makes me wonder how the government can allow this to continue going on..i can't believe that no help is available to us and we are being screwed royally and our lives in danger because we are forced to drive a dangerous non reliable vehicle!!!!!!! make things right nissan fix our vehicles or do a recall and give us our money for putting us through [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Defective transmission. nissan is responsible. *tr

At 40 mph the vehicle would seem like it upshifted to a very high gear and then start to vibrate real bad. we took it in for an analysis and they told us immediately that the two fluids had mixed (trans and coolant). *tr

I am a very loyal nissan/pathfinder owner. i'm on my second pathfinder and always have my beloved 2007 serviced regularly at the puyallup nissan dealership. because i rely on my vehicle for work, i make sure to keep it current with all recommended services over the life of the vehicle. until recently, ive been an extremely satisfied pathfinder owner. now, i am quite upset that a known defective radiator notice i received approximately a year ago, advised to do nothing if experiencing no problems, but now that i'm over the limit of 100k miles (115k), and experiencing the known radiator defect issue, i am now on the hook for the entire repair cost ($5000). i've researched the issue which can be summarized at http://www.nissanproblems.com/problems/transmission.shtml what does the miles matter? does nissan's obligation to their product and customer disappear after 100k miles? why didn't nissan recommend replacing the radiators, as a preventative measure? further research of testimonials from other nissan owners experiencing the same issue, suggests that the radiator problem seemed to typically occur after 100,000 miles anyways. so how is it that nissan is ok with leaving their customer holding on to the (crud) end of the stick? i sure hope i am reimbursed for the hefty bill some way some day. (i've not yet pulled the trigger on having the repairs done, as i have been contemplating trading in and giving the problem back to the dealer, but how will this affect the trade in value, and if nissan's past reputation is diminishing, why do i want to trade in for another nissan. my passion for pathfinders has suddenly dropped considerably...time for a new brand maybe.....:-((((( very disgruntled pathfinder owner, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The coolant has mixed up with the transmission fluid, and it is having problems with shifting. i done some research online, and found out that this a major issue with nissan and they are not willing to fix this issue. it says that there a hose leak issue into the transmission. now m car is sitting i n my driveway, dead. *tr

I took my vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test and was informed that the coolant from the radiator was leaking into the transmission and vice versa. the service technician stated that this was a known issue with my particular make/model vehicle. *tr

Checked the transmission fluid and it was white milky. had it checked its a problem with the transmission cooler inside the radiator cracking and letting antifreeze get into transmission and it destroys it and it's up to $5000 to fix and lots of lost time and nissan isn't doing a thing about it. and there are numerous people on the internet with same problem. nissan should fix this at no cost to the owner !!!!!!!! *tr

Transmission stutters between 35-50 mph. *tr

Transmission fluid is mixing with radiator fluid. *tr
