Recently reported FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE problems on 2007 Nissan Pathfinder

My 2007 nissan pathfinder has an erratic, inaccurate and basically inoperative fuel gauge. the gauge drops to e as soon as a the tank goes to 3/4 to 1/2. nissan is aware of the problem (ntb07-06b) but refuses to fix at their expense. their dealerships are charging $500 + in parts and labor to fix this potentially dangerous situation. we ran out of fuel on the expressway, and had to wait for almost an hour on the left side of i-75 until georgia hero brought us some fuel. please help. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the fuel gauge would not display accurate fuel levels. when the fuel tank was full, the gauge would display the fuel tank as empty and vice versa. the dealer inspected the vehicle and advised the contact that the fuel sensor had failed. the failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

Filled gas tank completely. fuel gauge did not indicate a full tank. the dte display had dashes across it when it should have shown 323 miles to the tank drove for approximately one mile. fuel gauge indicator went haywire and service engine soon light came on. fuel gauge now show that the gas tank is empty and will not move. service engine light is still on. *tr

About 6 months ago i was driving down a major interstate and suddenly my truck cut off. luckily i was already in the far right lane which allowed me to merge onto the shoulder before stopping completely. when the truck cut off, the power steering also went out making it very difficult to steer the truck out of the road. being that this portion of the intersection was under construction, my truck was not able to clear the adjacent lane with on coming traffic. traffic backed up until someone jumped out of their car to help push the truck further onto the shoulder. i later found out that the truck ran out of gas and the fuel level indicator stop working on my car. i had no way of knowing when my car was low on fuel other than to keep a running tab on how many miles i have driven since the last fill up of fuel. the same exact thing happen to my wife while driving down a major road.(she has the 2006 pathfinder and mine is the 2007 pathfinder) she suddenly lost her power steering and could not pull over into a near by gas station almost causing a few cars to crash into her truck. after taking my truck to the dealer to determine the problem, their reply was that the problem could not be repaired under the warranty and to repair the problem would cost me a substantial amount of money. they were well aware of the problem due to many of their trucks having the exact same problem. our local mechanic called the dealer also to inquire about the issue and was told that it is very common for all of the nissan pathfinders to have this issue at approximately 30k miles. he stated that they have been repairing them very often. both me and my wife fear that we could get into a serious accident or cause a serious accident due to this manufacturer flaw. we both feel that a manufacturer recall is in order and that nissan corp is putting it's buyers in danger by refusing to have this repaired by the dealer free of charge to the buyer. we do not plan to ever purchase another nissan. *tr

I own a 2007 nissan pathfinder se which currently has just over 37,000 miles on it. after filling the gas tank the fuel gauge remains on empty and the service engine soon light remains on for three to four days before the problem resets itself. after another fill up the same symptoms re-occur. this has been happening for about a month now and the dealer tells me that it is not covered under the warranty. potential for danger exists in that the car may be out of fuel while i am driving which may cause stalling and lead to an accident. thanks for your service. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. when starting the engine, the contact noticed the check engine light illuminated on the warning panel. also, the fuel level indicator had become inoperable, reading fuel levels as empty. the dealer advised the fuel sensor had failed and would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. the failure mileage was 43,000 and the current mileage was 60,000. updated 07/22/10 *bf the consumer stated a recall was issued, but her vehicle identification number was not included in the recall. updated 07/21/10*jb the conusmer stated she had to pay for the repair at her expense. updated 07/27/10*jb

Fuel gauge was experiencing intermittent problems while still under warranty, to where when i filled it the fuel gauge would drop to zero/empty. i took it into the nissan dealer (sandy sandsing in pensacola, fl) and they told me the issue/recall was limited to the altima and the xterra only and not my pathfinder. at 38000 miles the fuel gauge issue was constant, but it was now out of warranty. finally, nissan issued a recall and i was unable to take advantage of the replacement because my mileage was over their limit. i am not asking to have this sensor replaced just for the fun of it, it is inoperable. nissan should have to pay me for the poor gas mileage i get from having to constantly drive with a full fuel tank; because the gas gauge was unreliable. i will never buy a nissan again. *tr

Filled gas tank the gauge stayed at 1/4 full. the next day gauge did not work and service light was on. *tr

At approx 56,000 miles the gas gauge on my 2007 nissan pathfinder quit working and the check engine light came on . it is a sensor in the fuel system i was told. this could cause the vehicle to run out of fuel in traffic which could result in an accident. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that when he filled the fuel tank, the fuel gauge would indicate that the tank was still empty. also when he shifted his body weight in the driver seat, the back of the seat moved forward. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where he was informed that the wrong switch was in the vehicle for the power seat; the switch was replaced but the problem reoccurred. the vehicle was taken back to the dealership for both the driver seat and fuel gauge. the dealer could not duplicate the problem but stated that any repairs would be at the expense of the contact. the failure mileage was approximately 38,000. the current mileage was approximately 72,000.

Problem with 2007 nissan pathfinder: fuel gauge went haywire and check engine light comes on. *tr

Fuel gauge reads zero most of the time, even after fill up. distance to empty reads ---. i hear it is a fairly common problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. while on vacation in july of 2008, the contact noticed and smelled fuel leaking from the vehicle just one week after having the fuel sensor replaced. the odor was very strong. the manufacturer repaired the vehicle under warranty. when the contact retrieved the vehicle, she was informed that the fuel line was repaired, but she began smelling gasoline a few weeks later. there was no leakage at that time. on january 23, 2009, the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the odor and they stated that no prior repairs appeared to have been made to the vehicle. the current and failure mileages were 60,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective as it would indicate that the fuel tank was empty after he filled it with fuel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 38,000. the current mileage was approximately 108,000.

I live in oklahoma and drive dirt roads daily. i purchased a 2007 nissan pathfinder in 2007 and have two canisters replaced. i was not told when i purchased the car that it should not be driven on dirt roads because the canister clogs. i was told by the dealer this is a design defect. my concern: i have 82,000 miles on the car, my extended warranty runs out at 100,000 miles. i will drive dirt roads for the rest of my life, i want some sort of guarantee that the next time this canister fails (which causes the service engine light to come on), that the cost of repair will not be on me. i don't feel this is fair. it seems to be an ongoing problem. is there actually a design flaw and can i have some sort of guarantee that nissan will stand behind this. i don't think it would be fair to sell the car and pass this problem onto them. it is very costly to repair. updated ivoq 10/04/10 *tr
