We have classified the 404 complaints from 2006 Nissan Pathfinder about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Wife was driving home from work. was in middle lane of traffic stopped at red light. tried to accelerate but transmission would not engage. eventually transmission worked for a few seconds. pulled off road. inspected vehicle. all gears (including reverse) do not engage. did some online research this evening and looks like this is a very common problem. why has there not be a recall for this problem? *tr
Came to stop at light. tried to accelerate and transmission was not engaging. eventually was able to put car in 1st gear and transmission engaged. was able to pull off road. turned off vehicle and tried to engage any gear. transmission totally gone. *tr
Tried to sell the car and the buyer pointed out that the radiator must of cracked and mixed with the transmission fluid. he did not buy the car and now i am being told that i have to replace the transmission and the radiator. apparently this is a huge problem on these cars and they need to fix this. very upset and will never buy a nissan again. *tr
Cracked atf line caused transmission to fail..... during a scheduled service and oil change of my 2006 nissan pathfinder, the service tech informed me of the presence of engine coolant in my vehicle's transmission. the source of the problem was diagnosed as a cracked atf line. i paid a reputable shop $1,000.00 to replace the radiator and transmission cooler plus power flush the transmission. the transmission has since stopped working and the shop has attributed the damage to contamination caused by engine coolant. estimated repairs from a nissan service department are over $5000.00! all of the shops that i have spoken with have informed me that this is a common problem with the nissan pathfinder. this appears to be a failure on the part of nissan. *tr
I was driving yesterday night when my car started jerking and stopped suddenly on the highway, thankfully the cars behind me were able to stop avoiding a crash because there was lots of traffic, but otherwise, this would have been a fatal crash. the car would not move for several minutes, people had to help push it off the highway. then after a while it started moving again. i was able to drive the car, jerking all the way back to my house. i had previously noticed a jerking whenever i am accelerating or decelerating, i took it to the dealership and they informed me that it was an issue with the transmission of pathfinders owing to a defect in manufacture that causes radiator fluid to mix with coolant affecting the transmission. they flushed the transmission but the jerking continued. i was searching the internet on this and saw many complaint on this. this issue need to be resolved. i am glad i was spared but life's are being put in danger. *tr
My truck was shifting really hard for approximately two or three days and i took it to a service shop to have them take a look at it and they found radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission on my truck. i had no idea this was something that was a known issue by nissan, after doing some research i found that because i didn't meet the strict requirements for them to cover any cost or out of pocket expenses for the repair i had the service center replace the defective radiator only to find that there was damage done to the transmission too, looking at a cost of over $4,500.00 i was very disappointed with nissan's lack of commitment to taking care of their customers who were experiencing this issue namely me. *tr
Engine coolant hose ruptured into the transmission fluid. first noticed it when the engine was running hot. found out this is a factory defect. *tr
Radiator developed a crack which leaked into transmission - both had to be replaced. we were told, due to a class action settlement in 2013, we were responsible for a deductible of $2,500 since our vehicle started problem after 80,000 and past march 1, 2014. did not realize this problem until we took vehicle in, by that time mid april 2014 and at 81,990. this should be a recall. *tr
Corrosion in radiator parts allowed coolant to contaminate transmission fluid resulting in failure of transmission. *tr
This vehicle's timing chain, automatic transmission, and radiator need to be replaced due to premature mechanical failures. the radiator is faulty and the radiator coolant now mixes with the transmission causing transmission failure. repair costs are around $8000. a quick look at "nissan radiator/transmission cooler litigation" on the internet reveals class action lawsuits filed for these same complaints via thousands of consumers. this is a widespread problem known by nissan and they have not issued any recalls or warned the consumer of these problems. nissan has offered some owners extended warranties but nothing above 100,000 miles for those with consequential damage to their transmissions due to their knowingly defective radiators. clearly, toyota's recent acceptance of a $1.2 billion federal fine for deliberately concealing auto defects and safety risks from its buyers and general motor's current regulatory woes because they cynically judged their vehicles defects not recallable when they clearly are, these are signs that enough is enough. to have faulty products is one thing, but to not inform a consumer of a faulty product that will further destroy their vehicles is reprehensible. *tr
Fluid from radiator leaked into transmission which destroyed both. *tr
Noted that transmission was slipping when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear as well as issues with radiator fan coming on at idle along with no heat at idle. took vehicle to two separate car repairs to identify the problem and was told that vehicle had failed transmission cooler which allows coolant to mix with the transmission fluid, causing internal damage to the components. was advised that repairs would be upwards of $3k to replace transmission. *tr
Took my car in for brand new tires..mechanic attempted to start my car, but failed. had to get my car towed to a nissan dealership and they stated 24 hours later after receiving my car i will need a new transmission and radiator although my car was maintained and always serviced. they stated i will need to pay $6,000 for repairs to drive my car. right now i am paying a car note and can't drive my car. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan pathfinder. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled. the dealer stated that the transmission failed. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 114,000.
Sudden jerking in vehicle when traveling at highway speeds. the problem has been diagnosed as a failed transmission cooler which allows coolant to mix with the transmission fluid, causing internal damage to the components. *tr
The transmission has been slipping for a number of months. it's only up to 96,000 miles. we are trying to trade it in and have been told we'll get nothing for it because nissan settled a lawsuit for this year and model to replace the transmissions. i can't find details of this settlement and the dealer never contacted us about it (it was bought brand new). firstly, it's disgusting that they didn't reach out, and secondly, what can we do? i have heard that we can spend $3k to get a new transmission installed at this point. but if they'd contacted us sooner, it would have cost less. *tr
Car shudders and shakes at low and high speeds. at stops car will rev high before accelerating. engines stalls on both freeway and highway. had ecm replaced a week ago. had a 6 point inspection and was told all is fine. vehicle is very dangerous. *tr
Was told my tony autoplex that my coolant is leaking into the transmission and need to be replaced. was told there was an extended warranty on it but because i am over 80,000 they can't help me. i called customer service and i was told that because i am over 100,000 they can't help me. i am upset because both places told me that its a common problem. so why wasn't i notified to get it checked before the 80,000 & 100,000 mileage? that's what pissed me off. a huge expense, inconvenience, and no accountability to help fix a problem they already new existed..now i have to wait till someone from the regional office calls me back regarding my complaint because the person in customer service is in the philippines.....could not get most of my questions answered...poor service and support... *tr
2006 nissan pathfinder - took in for tune-up and was notified about broken seam on radiator. coolant was leaking into the transmission. ended up spending over $1,000 on a new radiator and repairs and may need a new transmission. researched the defected parts and discovered that this is a common problem with nissan pathfinders. nissan needs to issue a recall for this problem. they know it exists, and it is irresponsible of them to do nothing about it. it is a safety concern. *tr
Auto transmission/radiator.
Transmission started vibrating badly at 55 or more mph causing us to pull off the road in a very unsafe environment in the freeway. we waited for 3 hours for a tow truck. *tr
Had been experiencing some issues which i thought was transmission. i took car to dealer april 2013 and was told car was in good mechanical order. on january 28, 2014 while driving 40 mph on indian head highway with my elderly parents the car made a loud noise and speed significantly reduced. i was not able to increase speed or shift to another gear. i was able to drift to shoulder and stop car. i had the car towed to dealer and was told that the radiator had a crack causing coolant to leak into transmission thereby ruining (forever) the transmission. after research discovered that this is a known problem of the 06 nissan pathfinder. this issue should have been recalled. if i was on the highway going at high speed this could have caused a major accident. *tr
While driving transmission began shifting erratically. after stopping at a traffic light the vehicle would not accelerate above 20 mph. while attempting to get the vehicle home smoke was noticed coming from the transmission. inspection verified transmission fluid was contaminated with coolant. *tr
On thursday 1/23/2014 at 9:30 and 9 degree in queens new york i started the engine of my 2006 nissan pathfinder and started out for my appointment for the day which i failed to mark because of my car. i did not get to my destination because about two blocks from my house i stopped at the stop sign and as soon as i proceeded to move my engine light came on and my vehicle started losing power, i drove 10mph to the nissan dealer which is not too far from where i was. the dealer inspected the car and told me that there is a problem with the radiator which cause damage to the transmission. they told me they recognize the problem but it was not yet a recall issue, i guess other people had the same problem with that model. the representative said nissan will fix the problem but i have the pay $2500 +tax for the deductible, i also had to rent a car for $300 to get to work until my car was repaired. i think i should not have to pay anything because it is the manufactures fault and nissan is aware of it. i am very disappointed with nissan , i should not have to pay for something that i did not cause. *tr
I was driving on interstate 75 in atlanta, ga at the beginning of rush-hour when my vehicle suddenly started jerking. this is a 6 lane highway and i was riding in the center lane. while attempting to work my way to the right shoulder, i was unable to accelerate because my transmission was unresponsive. i had to hit the accelerator really hard to get out of the way of 18 wheelers and other fast moving vehicles. thankfully, i was able to get the vehicle out of the way of on-coming traffic without incident. i had my vehicle towed to town center nissan, which is where i take it for regular servicing and was informed on friday 1/24/14 that the transmission 'was shot.' not willing to take their word for it, my husband and i visited an aamco transmission location and was told by the technician that there was a class action law suit against nissan due to radiator fluid leaking into the transmission. he stated that he had serviced 8 - 9 pathfinders with the problem. my husband contacted nissan corp and the dealership about our discovery. nissan initially denied any responsibility, but stated that they would investigate. we were contacted by nissan corp yesterday informing us that our problem was not due to cross-contamination, but due to an issue with the transmission fluid, in other words, it is our fault. what is most interesting is that this is our regular service site, so any issues with the transmission should have been reported to us by them. that is what we have been paying them for. they have quoted us $4500.00 to replace the damaged transmission. they also made a point of stressing the fact that they would not have addressed it anyway due to the fact that we have over 100,000 miles on the vehicle. yes in 2014 we have 118,000 miles, but we were well below that number when this mess surfaced in 2010. what's worse is we never received a notice from nmac. *tr
My family and i were on the highway close to home,in traffic when our car made a pop noise and our car completely shut down. luckily no one hit us or hurt, as like i said we were in a heavy commute. our car was taken to our local mechanic were we found out the transmission failed due to radiator fluid leaking into the system a $5,500 repair we can not afford. we also found out this is a common problem in certain makes of nissans, they have numerous complaints which we were never informed about. all nissan owners should have been notified of the problem and a recall to all models! *tr
I am having a very hardtime with this vehicle. just bought on june 2013 from used dealership. it is mixing the antifreeze with transmission fluid. i have no other vehicle. and need to get around. my family depends on a good useful vehicle. that will not break down just anywhere. and will not cost thousands to repair. *tr
Faulty transmission cooler system - nissan pathfinder 2006 has faulty transmission cooling system that connects to radiator. nissan product/design failed and created cross contamination of antifreeze & transmission fluid. this faulty product design poses serious safety risks to my family and others (just search on the internet & you'll see hundreds of complaints/claims & class action law suit). this issue can cause sudden stops and engine failure. my pathfinder started running hot and that was first indication there was a problem. mechanic said transmission fluid had leaked into the radiator and radiator fluid leaked into transmission. we had to replace the radiator, thermostat & flushed transmission 4 times (very expensive repair). this just happened and uncertain if transmission will cause problems and require replacement. we have kept regular maintenance and used extended life/synthetic products to help keep the engine & transmission well lubed. *note: we didn't qualify for nissan recall & class action law suit due to mileage of vehicle. based on nissan's exclusion terms, we won't buy another nissan product. *tr
Transmission: having problems with transmission - it will not go on reverse. researching on the internet i found that this is a manufacturer defect. the radiator would crack causing the coolant to mix with the transmission fluid. *tr
i have heard that several people are having problems with their transmission fluid getting radiator fluid in it. the classic signs and symptoms that have started with my 2006 nissan pathfinder are: 1. horrendous shuddering when pressing on the gas to increase my speed, 2. occasional banging when my automatic car shifts into gear, 3. delay in speed when i attempt to pass. since all of this had started right after 100,000 miles a new transmission is not covered. i am a single mom who is a hospice nurse, i drive all day, having a reliable car puts food on the table for my kids. i don't have $3,000 to fix this problem. i could cry, i don't know what i am going to do. right now i just keep driving it knowing it is going to break down any day. i was informed by so many people that nissan was a great company and manufactured a great vehicle when i decided to by this pathfinder. i am soooo disappointed!!! i will never buy another nissan vehicle, i'm sorry, for the amount that i originally paid for this vehicle, it should not start falling apart at 108,000 miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the transmission began to jerk with severe hesitation. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the technician informed that the transmission and radiator would need to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Just found out that i have the coolant mixed with the transmission fluid causing transmission failure.... called nissan consumer affairs and was told i had to go get diagnosis at dealer witch i did at a cost 100.00. called nissan back and said i was out of luck and nothing they would do.... how can they get away with selling such a defective part for so long is beyond me and the fact that there is numerous class action law suits on this issue and nothing is being done about it..... this is a major safety issue as a transmission failure will cause the vehicle to stop in traffic.... someone needs to do something about this. *tr
I brought my 2006 nissan pathfinder to a local nissan dealership to check out a completely unrelated issue when i was made aware that my car had the problem of a cracked radiator that contaminates the transmission fluid that could lead to major problems if not corrected. since i have less than 90,000 miles, i'd have to pay a co-pay of $2500 out of pocket. evidently there is no recall on this issue, although there should certainly be one since this has happened to many other cars and shouldn't be the responsibility of the consumer to pay for an issue that is clearly a manufacturer's defect. i personally am not in a position to simply dump $2500 into a vehicle and this makes this problem even more difficult and hard to accept. something absolutely needs to be done about this. *tr
While entering highway the transmission started growling and would not shift. oncoming traffic traveling at 60+ mph had difficulty avoiding my automobile. *tr
On december 12 2013 i was driving down highway 195,speed limit was 65 miles an hour, about ten minutes on my way home i heard a knocking sound coming from my 2006 nissan pathfinder, as i pulled over on the break down lane i got out and check under the hood and saw nothing so i continue to drive i got off the highway and drove it to the dealership where i purchase the vehicle ,and they looked at the vehicle and told me it was the transmission and it was going to cost me $5400.00 to replace it and if i don't like it, i can take it to nissan dealership in dartmouth ma, which i did, and they said the same thing and that there was no recall on the transmission so there is nothing they can do for me but put me in another vehicle with monthly payments, so i took my nissan pathfinder to a mechanic business call safe guard transmission located on dartmouth street in new bedford ma, which i ended up paying 3600.00 to replace the transmission. i need to be reimburse for the amount i spent on the transmission that a recall was on, if your company refuse i will contact the attorney general. *tr
Transmission cooler inside radiator cracked and allowed coolant into transmission fluid, causing complete transmission faliure....cost to repair 5,000 dollars. *tr
Transmission heat up and failed. it started slipping until it would not go. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan pathfinder. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle shook violently and the engine stalled. the vehicle was able to restart after four attempts. the failure recurred on one occasion. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator welding failed and was draining coolant into the transmission which needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 78,000. updated 03/15/16*lj; updated 3/29/18*jb *tr
2006 nissan pathfinder transmission problems. vehicle transmission started to vibrate and whine and within 1 mile the transmission was not working. i was in traffic and could not move at all. had car taken to transmission repair shop and the shop automatically knew the problem. there was coolant leaking into the transmission from the radiator. he said it was a know issue with the nissan pathfinders and it was too late to do anything. i cannot believe this was a known issue and was not recalled. i had 2 children in the car and this could have caused a serious accident. luckily, it did not. i am know stuck with a $4,000 bill to get this fixed. i will never purchase a nissan again if this is how they treat their customers. *tr
Water entered transmission fluid due to faulty valve. *tr
Water entered into transmission due to faulty valve. *tr
On the highway, the transmission started to feel as if the car was going to stall. the coolant light indicator moved rapidly to the high end, which seemed to indicate a radiator or coolant problem. i pulled off the highway and let the car cool down, before proceeding on back roads to get home. the car continued to act as if it was going to stall even at 15-20 miles per hour. shortly thereafter, the service engine light came on. i had the car towed to my nissan dealership and was advised that the radiator caused the transmission to fail. nissan is aware this is a problem but as my car is over 80,000 miles, i will need to pay $2,500 to fix the problem! *tr
During highway speeds noted chattering/chuttering when accelerating at approximately 60-65 mph. later after exiting the interstate, slowing down while approaching intersection, during automatic transmission down shift, vehicle seemed to lunge forward. scary in city traffic. upon return to home, removed radiator cap, coolant fluid was color and consistency of peanut butter. fearing blown head gasket, check engine oil which was fine, check of transmission fluid revealed very runny and more of a peanut butter color on the dip stick. removed transmission drain plug for a better fluid inspection, what drained was very watery, reddish, brownish, peanut butter colored fluid. drained approximately 3 quarts. replaced drained fluid with new, set up appointment and drove vehicle to nissan service center. cursory search of the web identified excessive number of other consumers complaining of same issue. couple hours later, nissan service manager informed me that there was cross contamination between coolant and transmission. because vehicle had greater than 80000 miles, service manager informed me would be a co-pay of $2500.00. repair work completed, money paid, now attempting to have nissan reimburse. *tr
Car shutters when we get to about 45 mph and you can feel some issues with the transmission. after doing a lot of research, apparently this is a known issue by nissan. there was a class action law suit that says this is not a safety hazard so they made an arrangement to cover some, but not all, in full. apparently radiator fluid is leaking into the transmission and ruining the transmission. the settlement says that at my mileage, over 90,000 miles but before 100,000 they will fix the problem for $3000! wow! how sweet of them. i can't believe this is not a recall. there are threads and threads of people complaining about this exact problem. it effects 2005-2010 models. they say it only effects a small amount, that is because they haven't even seen the impact yet. are we going to wait until someone is really injured to do a recall. this is absolutely ridiculous. guess i will just drive it like this and hope that it doesn't hurt me or someone else, since nissan says it is not a safety hazard. how issues with a transmission are not a safety hazard is beyond me. i think this needs to be addressed again. this is my second nissan and the second one that i have had to have a transmission replaced in. the other one was replaced in the first year because of another issue that they couldn't fix. no more nissans in this house! *tr
The radiator cracked and the transmission oil mixed with the cooling. this resulted in the damaging of the transmission and we had to replace the radiator. *tr
The car stalled in oncoming traffic more than once. nissan dealership says it needs a new transmission, radiator, catalytic converters, cam sensors and fuel system. it has been nothing but trouble since we purchased it and it dangerous to drive. *tr
Wife noticed problems with our 2006 nissan pathfinder with 120k miles on it while driving home one day. when she got here it was leaking transmission fluid and we had it towed to our local transmission shop. they informed us that a coolant leak caused our transmission to fail. after doing some research online, i noticed it is a very common problem with certain years of nissans. it was our primary vehicle and i didn't have the time to hassle with the nissan run-around so had it repaired for over $3,800. we will never buy a nissan again if this is how they do business. if its a known problem and cause so many customers so much grief with their poor design, they should be held liable for the damages and then some for not being considerate and informing their customers of this flaw. we will be sure to steer clear from any nissan for any upcoming purchase. that is just an outrageous bill to pay for a known defect and they should be ashamed for running their business like that. *tr
Driving up a hill with my kid in the car the vehicle stalled due the transmission stalling fortunately i was able to pull over. you have to make nissan recall these vehicles or send a notice to everyone that the transmission is going to fail do not put your kids in the unsafe vehicle. do not wait until someone gets killed. *tr
The vehicle had some shifting and hesitation issues while driving at highway speeds, especially upon accelerating after decelerating about 5 mph at highway speed. i brought it in to the dealer who said the radiator needed to be replaced due to cross contamination with the transmission. upon the dealer replacing the radiator and flushing the cooling system/transmission, they called and said that the vehicle is now throwing off codes and that the transmission needed replacement. in researching the issue online, i noted there was an open investigation as well as and extended warranty offered by nissan for this defect. the dealer failed to mention this, so i forwarded them the information and visited them to discuss the defect. the dealer stated that there was a lower cost valve body service they could attempt, but if that did not work, i would need the full replacement, so therefore they recommended the replacement. the valve body service was $1300 and a new transmission was $5300, so if the service did not work i would be looking at $6600 plus another $350 for the cooling system and transmission flush they had already performed. the vehicle has 109,000 miles on it, so it is outside of the extended warranty nissan issued for this issue. i did try their customer care line to attempt to have them cover the repair since it is only 9000 miles outside the warranty, but they said there is nothing they can do. based on the cost of the repair versus the value of the vehicle, it's hard to justify the expense and therefore i considered not repairing the transmission. however, the vehicle is used by my wife to drive our kids around, and i can't imagine the consequence of not repairing and then have a complete failure like some owners have experienced while driving. it's evident that this is a major quality and safety issue, and that nissan should be responsible. *tr
The transmission shudders when changing gears. *tr
