We have classified the 167 complaints from 2005 Nissan Pathfinder about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
My fuel gage is not working and it is estimated to me that it will cost $600 to get it fixed and the real bummer of it is that i cannot get my new tag registration while my check engine light is on. i can keep up with the mileage but it is a real pain in the neck. i have several friends that have pathfinders and armada that have had the same issues but their was paid for with their warranty. since i drive so much for work mine is not covered. one of my friends has had to bring their in 5 different times to get it fixed. it should be recalled if they are having so many issues with it. it will cause deaths if i run out of gas on the interstate. *tr
I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. after returning home and doing research, i went online to x.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, i came across many others who have experienced the same problem. apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. a similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. it seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. there is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. if this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. cost of repair ranges from $300-600. *tr
I am having a problem with my fuel gauge for my 2005 nissan pathfinder. the gauge on my dash board does not accurately reflect the amount of fuel that is in the fuel tank. no matter if the tank is full or not the gauge reads empty 99% of the time. occasionally the gauge will read as if there is fuel but this happens very rarely. because of this defect i have run out of fuel on a number of occasions and have lost control of my vehicle because of the loss of power. the problem has been around for about 20k miles. currently i am at about 88k miles on my pathfinder and because of the miles i do not qualify for the extended warranty that i just found out about, which caps the miles at 72k. *tr
Service engine light came on at 28,500 miles on my 2005 pathfinder. soon after i noticed my fuel light came on with my fuel gauge showing empty. i just filled it with gas prior to this happening. i thought someone stole my gas and was going to call the police. i tried putting more gas, but it was completely full. my boyfriend drove it up and down hills and after making some sharp turns, the fuel gauge started to go up and then the service engine light went off. when the fuel gauge went to the half way point today, once again, the service engine light came on and my fuel gauge shows empty again! this is very dangerous and i have a young child that travels with me. i have researched this problem and found thousands of complaints on this same issue! why is there no recall? please don't wait until someone gets hurt or even dies! *tr
Fuel gauge gives faulty reading showing empty most of the time resulting in check engine light on constantly and unable to know the actual fuel level. *tr
At 58,000 miles the gas gauge and the mileage indicator would fluctuate or wouldn't work at all. now at 60,000 miles the service engine light is on. one morning i started the car and the gas gauge read empty. went and put gas in the car and $10 later it was full. i do believe that the two are connected and based on my reading on this site the dealership is aware of the problem but would like the owners to fork out $400 - $600 which in this economy i can't afford. this is definitely a safety concern. *tr
Fuel level sensor stopped working on 2005 pathfinder after normal fillup. gas gauge no marks total empty after fill up and will act erratic at times. there are numerous other complaints for the same thing on pathfinders of the same and more recent years. nissan will not replace the part for free which could cause a safety hazard if car suddenly runs out of gas. *tr
I have a 2005 pathfinder that recently had the service light came on after filling up the gas tank, gauge stop working as well. i've replaced the gas cap with no success. i've research the problem and realized that this is a pretty common issue with this model. i have about 56,000 miles on this car. *tr
My 2005 pathfinder's fuel gauge was working correctly until about 60,000 miles. i had about a quarter tank of gas and filled up. when i started the car the gas gauge said the tank was empty and the service engine light was on. the dealership quoted $600 to replace the sensor and said it was covered under the warranty. i've researched this issue and seems to be common. it's a safety hazard that should be fixed at the manufacturer's expense. *tr
I filled up my gas tank and it didn't register a few days later the check engine light came on i took it to the dealership who informed me that my warranty expired a month ago and i was almost 1,000 miles over the warranty limitation. so because of this i would have to pay anywhere from $400-$800, which i don't have we're in a recession. also while i was driving to nursing school one morning the 2005 pathfinder i was driving just stopped in the midst of morning rush hour traffic in the dead of a cold blistering winter morning. later that day i took the vehicle to firestone who gave me a printout to take to the nissan dealership for the fuel sensor problem that seems to be apparent in this model as well as others. again nissan wasn't willing to fix this problem. i pray that you guys can help us nissan owners who have invested our hard earned money into a vehicle of this type which by the way isn't a cheap vehicle, to alleviate this problem by asking nissan to take ownership of the faulty products that they're selling so that we don't have an additional out-of-pocket expense because of a problem that is truly no fault of our own. obviously this is a safety issue and problem because my vehicle didn't pass inspection. so please help us millions of consumers who are having this problem get corrected through nissan its the right thing to do since this problem existed in other models and previous models they should make a better product or correct the problem as they occur. nissan is a reputable company and unlike other automobile dealerships they're doing quite well so they can afford to keep us as customers happy by correcting their fuel system problems. *tr
Fuel sending/sensing unit on 2005 pathfinder 4x2. service engine light comes on and vehicle is not able to inform on fuel left on tank. not the only one with this issue. http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/nissan-pathfinder/tmvjfugon9rd4eb8i. *tr
2005 nissan pathfinder. fuel gauge reads zero, half tank or somewhere in-between when the tank is full. service engine light comes on and will not go out unless the fuel gauge starts reading correctly (which it sometimes does). this is a known problem. nissan has even come out with a service bulletin ntb07-069a that addresses the problem. the problem that i have is that this has happened to several people, and the repair bill for a vehicle that is out of warranty is between $400 and $600. i believe that this could be considered a safety issue and a recall should be issued if people are running out of gas due to incorrect or non-existent fuel level readings. *tr
Faulty fuel sending unit/sensor... doesn't work. and 'check engine soon light' goes on and off all the time! *tr
I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder with 46k miles. i filled up with gas and the needle didn't move. over the next few days the check engine light came on and the gauge started going up. i was told that it was the fuel sending unit and i was part of a large group of angry customers with the same problem. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder with 63k miles. a short time ago i noticed the "down to empty" (dte) gauge was not working, instead it was reading "---" even though i had fuel in the gas tank. i also noticed the gas gauge did not move after filling with fuel. this problem seem to correct on it's own, but then the check engine light came on. after bringing it to the dealer, they said there is a problem with the fuel level sensor. this would be an out of pocket expense since nissan does not cover it. through research online, i have found many people who have stated they are having the same problem. this problem should be corrected by nissan. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that when the fuel tank was half full or more, the fuel gauge would inaccurately read that it was empty. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the fuel sending unit was replaced. the failure was corrected. the failure mileage was 86,000 and the current mileage was 140,000.
P0463 fuel level sensor. *tr
Fuel gauge reports inaccurate fuel levels. fuel sensor defective. check engine light also come on as additional warning. sensor system requires replacement. *tr
Have had problems with check engine light since purchasing the car. brought to dealer several time they said gas cap was loose after they tighten the gas cap the light came back on they said it was a gross evap leak then replaced a valve or sensor at the gas tank. the problem came back and with a little internet research i found there is a technical service bulletin ntb07-069a. the problem is the fuel gauge will read different i can have a full tank and it says 1/4 tank also anytime the car gets below 1/2 tank the check engine light comes on. brought to the dealer and they replaced a sensor in the fuel and it seems to be fixed. they wanted to replace the fuel pump and sensor for close to $600 the sensor was around $300. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. after placing fuel in the vehicle, the contact noticed that the dial in the fuel gauge did not move. approximately 30 miles later, the dial increased, the engine warning light illuminated, and the fuel warning indicator light dimmed. he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the fuel cap needed to be replaced. the contact purchased the fuel cap and replaced it himself. moments later, he returned to the service department and a representative informed him that he needed to replace the fuel sending unit as well. he did not repair the vehicle because the repair cost exceeded $600. the engine warning light remains illuminated on the instrument control panel. the failure and current mileages were 83,000.
Fuel sensor level gauge (p0463) on my 2005 pathfinder is not working. fill up gas tank and gauge in car still says empty and dte says zero and flashing. i have read online many other people with this problem. nissan dealership is asking for $500 to fix the problem, and its not a normal wear and tear problem. i am 37 years old and have never had this problem before. i have not been in any accidents with my 2005 pathfinder either. *tr
I will have 1/4 of a tank of gas and suddenly the gauge will drop way past empty. my car just stops which can be very dangerous because you have no warning of sudden stop after the vehicle doesn't get any fuel. after researching this issue i have found that many people are having this same problem due to a faulty unit. i also understand there was a recall for this same issue with the 2000-2004 nissans. this is clearly a defect on nissan's part! *tr
Problem with the fuel sending unit in 2005 nissan pathfinder. *tr
A few weeks ago after filling up my 2005 nissan pathfinder, i noticed several contra-indicated problems. first, my dte screen showed no numbers. two, my gas gauge showed my tank as empty, even though again, i had just filled it up. all this after only about 65,000 miles. *tr
The fuel level sending units on my, and a large number of 2005 to present nissan pathfinders, xterras, and frontiers are failing at an alarming rate., causing vehicles to unexpectedly run out of gas on highways. nissan should immediately recall these vehicles for fuel level sending unit repair. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder. after filling the gas tank the gas gauge reads empty and the service engine soon warning light stays on. i currently have about 146,000 km and had this same problem when the vehicle had about 55,000 km. the fuel sensor was replaced under warranty at that time. i have been operating the vehicle like this as the cost is about $400.00 to replace the sensor. *tr
Nissan faulty gas gauges-recalled after my model. my gas gauge has been bad for the past 2 yrs. at least (went bad right after warranty was up) need to look into models before 2006 also. check engine light has been on since it went bad. dealership said $400 for part, not including service. dealership said gas gauge will eventually just go completely out. have ran out of gas twice. that was even trying to have half a tank of gas. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel and the fuel gauge was very erratic. even if the gas tank was full, the needle would remain at 3/4 or half way. the dealer diagnosed the failure and found an error code, which meant that the fuel pump sending unit was defective. the fuel level sensor needed to be replaced. through research, the contact discovered a very common failure with nissan vehicles; however, no recalls have been issued for this defect. the vehicle has not been repaired and nissan stated that the contact would be responsible. the failure mileage was 52,000 and current mileage was 58,000. updated 09/24/08. *lj updated 09/30/08. *jb
The fuel sending unit in my 2005 nissan pathfinder failed. this is the unit that sends how much fuel you have remaining to the gauge. because of this i ran out of gas twice. this unit was recalled in the next model year/same generation. i had to replace the part at a cost of $372. *tr
I began having problems with my 2005 nissan pathfinder with 38,958 miles 2 weeks ago when my 'dte' (distance to empty) indicator began messing up. the suv is running fine like it always has. my dte indicator showed ------ and the gas gauge showed zero gas and the light was on. i knew i had at least 1/2 tank of gas. after filling up, everything went back to normal. thursday evening, 8/16/07, the dte showed -------, but then corrected itself and was fine. on 8/17/07, the 'service engine soon' light came on. i replaced the gas cap, had the oil changed, and it still stayed on. my husband took the suv to autozone to have the codes pulled from the computer. the code is p0463: definition-fuel sending unit condition. she indicated if the car is running fine, which it is, the fuel pump is fine, there could be a bad spot on the fuel level sensor. of course, we cannot just purchase the 'fuel level sensor' without purchasing the entire fuel pump assembly. this will be a pricey repair at $420.00 for the part only available through nissan due to the newness of this body style. in april of 2005, i chose to purchase a brand new 4x4 suv for dependability and no worries taking my kids to school and after school activities. a repair of this magnitude on a less than 2 year old vehicle is not what i had in mind when purchasing this vehicle. every mom panics when the 'service engine soon' light comes on, hoping you and your children make it to where you are going safely. i feel this is a manufacturing defect and nissan should be responsible for repairing this on all newer nissan pathfinders. this is part of the gas tank we are dealing with. i doubt i will ever purchase a nissan again. this is obviously a manufacturing issue and not due to operator error, however, i will have to pay to have this fixed. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the fuel gauge gave incorrect readings and would indicate that there was fuel in the fuel tank when it was empty; when full, it would indicate that the tank was empty. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in any related recalls. he called the manufacturer who verified that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the failure mileage was approximately 56,000. the current mileage was approximately 101,000. updated 07/01/10 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle ran out of gas, even thought he tank read 1/2 tank full. updated 07/06/10.*jb
Filled up my 2005 nissan pathfinder (6cyl) and noticed that the gauge was reading "empty". minutes later my service engine light came on. i know about the issue with the gas cap, so i made sure it was installed correctly. this mis-reading lasted for 2 days, then corrected itself. this has occurred 2xs and is a dangerous situation. nissan has a moral obligation to fix this problem, but from want i am reading, they refuse to. what a shame. *tr
Heater blows cold when idle, heater blower doesn't always work, fuel gauge reads empty when full. *kb
With just 64,585 miles on my 2005 pathfinder le i started to experience the check engine light and a sometimes dis-functional gas gauge. while taking the vehicle in for the wiring harness recall, the local dealership checked the code and determined the problem was with the fuel sending unit assembly---estimated part cost of $420.00! since the vehicle was over 60,000 miles the part was not covered under warranty. i was not experiencing any performance problems, but because of the code, the vehicle would not pass the state required emissions test until the unit was replaced. less than 2 years old and already had to replace the fuel pump assembly. *jb
My 2005 nissan pathfinder se has a loud squeak/vibration coming from the underbody, the same as described in complaint number 10143438. i too, have confirmed that the source of the loud squeak/vibration is from the fuel tank/fuel pump design. recently, i have been informed (as of two weeks ago) that the tech people of nissan of north america in california have yet to find a solution to the problem. although my vehicle is completely under warranty, i have also found dealing with the nissan customer service center to be difficult as, unlike local mechanics, the nissan customer service center does not appear to want to even acknowledge the existence of the problem let alone put anything in writing about customer service issues to its consumers. often times, (such as right now) the nissan customer service center won't call me back even though they promised me that they would do so. this vehicle is an expensive vehicle and i agree with the previous complaint that it is absolutely unacceptable that nissan does not have a fix for this problem and/or won't communicate with its life-long consumers about what the problem actually is, what they are doing about the problem or when they expect to have a fix for the problem. *jb
My 2005 nissan pathfinder le has a loud squeak/vibration coming from the underbody. dealer (ramsey nissan - ramsey, nj) has confirmed that the source of the loud squeak/vibration is due to the change in design for the "fuel pump spring assembly". apparently, the 2004 pathfinder had a 2 spring design which was changed to a 1 spring design in 2005. once the fuel tank becomes pressurized (car running for approximately 10 minutes), a loud, constant, and obtrusive squeak/vibration comes from underneath the car. to date, nissan does not have a fix for this which is unacceptable since the vibration is coming from a critically sensitive area such as the fuel tank. this is an expensive vehicle that should not sound and feel like it is 10 years old. it is absolutely unacceptable that nissan does not have a fix for this. *nm
