Problems with 2007 Nissan Murano SEATS

On average, the 2007 Nissan Murano starts to “feel” problems with the SEATS and its various aspects after 81 628 miles.

Recently reported SEATS problems on 2007 Nissan Murano

Driver's power seat suddenly started rocking forward and backward as you were slowing or accelerating. popping and squeaking noises accompanied the rocking motion. as the seat would rock you had to adjust pressure on the brake pedal or accelerator to compensate for the movement of the seat. it was unnerving to operate the vehicle with the seat moving. i had to hold onto the grab handle over the driver's door to help control the movement of the seat. in doing this i was unable to keep both hands on the steering wheel. if i tried to keep both hands on the steering wheel, when the seat would move i would tend to jerk the wheel from side to side as i tried to stop the seat from moving. appointment was made at local nissan service department. i learned that nissan is familiar with this safety issue and have issued a technical service bulletin. parts were ordered and seat was repaired. i am concerned that if normal use will cause the inferior designed seat to break what would happen in a crash. it appears tsb is for model years 2003 thru 2007 . possibly the seat design was improved for '08 and later models but nissan is unwilling to issue a recall to cover this safety issue. *tr

I was driving on the highway when the incident occurred. i brake because there was traffic ahead when all of a sudden i felt a pop and the seat dipped down and back. i almost crashed due to the distraction of the seat braking and bracing myself so that i didn't fall. the seat then began to rock back and forth. i had to sustain the seats with bricks underneath the seat so that i can be able to drive. i immediately went to the dealer and the response from the dealer was that they are aware of the issue and that the other replacement seats have the same issue. he basically told me "don't waste your money on a new seat because it will happen again". this is a very serious safety hazard and is beyond me that nissan will not do a recall on this! it is amazing that someone has to die in order for something to happen. *tr

Drivers seat broke upon entering the vehicle. apparently the seat frame wore out after only 75k miles and 4 years. *tr

Two days ago, my driver's seat broke resulting in the steep tilt which pushes me towards the driver door especially when car is making a turn. it seems to be anchored on the right side but comes loose from the left rear, allowing rocking when taking turns. this car has 47k miles. this seems like a major safety issue, as it could affect a driver's control of the steering wheel, pedals, etc. *tr

I was driving my car home from work when i turned a corner and my seat came off the floor. i wasn't going fast so i was able to keep control. the car is in excellent condition and only as 20k miles on it. i did some research online and found this to be a common problem due to faulty design of the power seats. depending on the situation, this could definitely lead to an accident and serious harm since the seat is not securely fastened to the chassis of the car. the fact that nissan won't cover the cost to fix the issue ($1000 part plus $400 labor) because it is out of warranty is ridiculous. a car seat should not break at all let alone after 20k miles. this is a potential a serious issue that needs to be addressed. *tr

I hate to complain and i've never filed a complaint before, but some type of motion has to be enforced with the nissan murano line of vehicles. there are so many issues with this vehicle that i have chosen to list the most hazardous and frustrating ones. the first issue was recalled. months before a recall was finally enforced, i almost got severely hurt at a stoplight when the air exhaust hose slipped off on my 2007 nissan murano, which caused it to completely stop in the middle of driving through the stoplight. the second issue will also cause near death experiences/deaths if a recall is not enforced. my driver side seat and 1,000s of others' driver side seats have a collapsed rear bracket which causes the seat to move back in forth. this is extremely dangerous! a rear-end collision could be just as fatal as a head on collision due to the fact that the seat will move forward and throw the driver into the air bag breaking their neck and various other fatal injuries to graphic to list. i foresee a huge lawsuit as nissan has been alerted of this issue many times and refuses to cover it, even for vehicles still under warranty. instead, they charge on average $1,200 to fix it. if you would like to simulate the issue, you are more than welcome to use my murano with a crash test dummy and crash it into a wall. the most nerve wrecking issue is the breaks. no matter what kind of brakes you have installed or who installs them (even the dealer), they still squeak extremely loud. once again, nissan knows about this as a common problem, but their response in lamen terms is, 'sorry, that you were stupid enough to pay 38k for a hunk of junk.' i have so many other issues with this vehicle that i lay awake at night and pray that it will get stolen, a major hail storm, or i win the lottery so i can get rid of it as i still owe on it and i'm upside down on trade value. this is my 1st and last nissan. i'm going back to gm for better quality and customer satisfaction. *tr

While travelling for a funeral, driver's seat started rocking to the rear. investigation showed the seat frame had broken at the left rear corner. a nissan dealer in wisconsin refused to repair the seat failure for free as the car is no longer under warranty. to get vehicle home a block of wood was placed under corner. once the car was in home state, dealer there also refused to repair for free even though this is a safety issue. owner had 3rd party mechanic remove and make welding repairs. searching the internet shows many complaints for this model vehicle with multiple production years starting in 2003 through at least 2007 for the same driver's side seat failure.

Driver seat suddenly became loose during my afternoon commute. it rocks very badly from side to side. *tr

Upon entering the vehicle to begin my commute to work, i noticed the driver's seat had apparently separated from its tracks, and was rocking back and forth. this is disconcerting, and can be extremely dangerous. the vehicle was purchased new in december 2006, and now has 27,500 miles on it. i have been driving for many years, and have never experienced a failure like this. *tr

I went to sit in my drivers seat and i heard a very loud crack and my seat broke. it now rocks and leans into the direction of the driver side door. the seat literally rocks and is very unstable. if the seat comes completely unhinged during the driving process or in an accident the driver could become severely injured due to the instability. in addition, it causes my seatbelt to get stuck in between seat and door because seat touches the door when sitting in it. i called the dealership and this fix is approx $1000 to $1200. i noticed online and on this site that there are numerous complaints with this exact problem and nothing has been done to force the automaker to fix this problem. we need serious action quickly because this is a very expensive repair and nissan should be liable for it as this is happening across the country and is very unsafe for the driver and other vehicles that could be affected in an accident. *tr

The driver side power seat on my 2007 nissan murano will only activate the left side. the right side is locked in one position. i took the vehicle to the dealer who quoted $1,100 to replace the entire seat assembly. the vehicle had less than 30,000 miles at the time of the seat motor failure but is out of the 3 year warranty period. i feel this is a safety issue as the seat cannot be adjusted to the drivers specific needs.

This is a follow up to my previous complaint, which documented the sudden collapse of the driver's seat in my nissan murano. in 2009, nhtsa ruled that this defect was not a safety issue, based on the fact that only three minor injuries had been reported. however, i recently came across information that the bisnar chase law firm has filed two auto products liability lawsuits against nissan -- one for a catastrophic injury and the other for a fatal injury -- which appear to be directly related to the nissan driver's seat defect. the information appears on the law firm's website, as well as on those of some news organizations. in light of this recent information, i recommend that nhtsa re-open its investigation, in order that this very dangerous defect can be resolved prior to any additional fatalities and/or catastrophic injuries. *tr

1. we own a 2007 nissan murano. while driving at approximately 45 mph, we heard a "crack" sound in the car. it was immediately evident that the seat's back was able to move in a manner that is not normal. it was able to shift/twist to the side rather than be stable in a front-facing position. this occurred with a vehicle that was only driven under normal suburban conditions (not used off road or in extreme situations) and with approximately 55,000 miles. there were no special circumstances or unusual driving, jarring, or trauma to the vehicle or its seat in the days, months, and years leading up to this failure. 2. a metal seat bracket (seat lift frame assembly) in the front driver's seat broke on 12/20/2010. this has a consequence of the front seat being able to move about including rocking, shifting, and twisting while driving, and is especially unstable during turns or on a bumpier surface. even with a seatbelt on, there is a serious instability to the seat. while we have not experienced a crash that caused injury, from this, we strongly feel the potential for there to be serious injury or death because the seat is not stabilized exists. in reviewing message boards from other owners of muranos (see http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2004/nissan/murano/seat for example), this failure exists in multiple model years (noted from 2004 on) and appear to impact hundreds, if not thousands of murano owners. 3. nissan requires the seat to be replaced at a cost of $1000 - $1200 to the consumer. they do not consider this a safety issue and thus do not cover this under recall. we are currently awaiting the repair from the dealership. *tr

While driving on i95 the driver's seat broke and began rocking back and forth. i managed to maintain control of the car till i got home and propped the seat up with wood blocks. i looked online and found numerous complaints of the same problem from murano owners, 41 exact same complaints on the first site i viewed. nissan admits no fault and recommends a $1200 repair. i called my nissan dealer and they said they see this problem constantly, but can usually make a weld repair for about $70. i took the car to the dealer and they quadrupled the price to $300 for the weld. when i balked, the mechanic and the service manager told me i had to have the repair done as it is a safety problem. i agree, it certainly is a safety problem. shouldn't nissan acknowledge their design flaw before people are killed?

2007 nissan murano ,no accident, failure of drivers seat frame, cracked under normal driving conditions less than 50,000 miles. this could certainly be a safety issue since it affects the driver while driver is driving, should be a recall . fix is quoted at 1,200.00 dollars waiting for parts currently. old parts still in car. *tr

We have a 2007 nissan murano. in december i realized my drivers seat wasn't attached on one side. the "seat lifter" was broken. i drove with 1/2 of my seat not being attached for 2 months because there was a "national backorder" on this part. i was told by the repair technician that they've seen this a lot recently, and that it was a thin piece of metal so it broke easily. i was very uncomfortable with this safety issue, because my infant car seat was behind my drivers seat. i was worried my seat would detach in an accident. *tr

During the course of normal, routine and non-commercial use of the vehicle, the driver's seat became loose and began to rock/move. took vehicle to nissan dealer for inspection and diagnosis. dealer service department advised that seat mount for driver's seat was broken at a weld spot, compromising the integrity of the mounting. no collission or other abnormal event precipitated the incident. this would seem to indicate a manufacturing or design defect in the seat mount with serious safety implications.

The driver's seat bracket, outside rear broke as i swing my body around to exit the car. the back of the seat fell sharply about 4" and i found myself between the pillar and the seat. i live in a mountainous county in california, and regularly travel for business (2 - 4 times per week) between 3 other counties, same topography. if this had occurred while making one of these trips the result would have been catastrophic, a head-on, roll-over, or over the cliff. thank god this occurred in the valley, and when i was stopped. i had to have a temporary repair at a furniture repair store just to be able to drive the car. he fashioned a wooden support to keep the seat upright and strapped it beneath the seat. on getting to santa rosa, ca, i took to vehicle into nissan of santa rosa and spoke to the service department. he mentioned they see this weekly, and wanted to charge me a diagnostic fee. i balked at that, was sent to the consumer hot-line, and they wouldn't file a report until it was diagnosed at the dealership. i got them to waive the fee. went back to the dealership had it diagnosed. they wanted to charge me over $800 dollars to fix it. several days later i get a call from the consumer division of nissan saying they would do nothing with my claim. of course they wouldn't if they sell an expensive part plus labor on a regular basis. since then i have talked to several other technicians in both the santa rosa and petaluma, ca dealerships. it was confirmed this is a regular failure. i'm amazed that there have been no any fatalities, or maybe there have. the fact that nissan has not re-engineered this part, or created a mod for this fix has me questioning the integrity of nissan products. how many people have to die before they do the right thing. is this the only complaint filed with the nhtsa? we found this problem discussed numerous places online.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan murano. the contact stated that the front driver seat began wobbling abnormally. the contact discovered that the frame was fractured. the dealer advised the contact that the repair would cost over $1000 to repair the seat frame. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 34,000.

My 2007 nissan murano drivers seat when activated only moves on one side. i contacted nissan and they said since i am past the 36,000 mile warranty they will not pay the $1,300.00 plus repair fee. i currently have 42,000 mile on the vehicle. *tr

During normal operation of the vehicle the drivers seat bracket failed causing the seat to rock loosely. *tr

2007 nissan murano with 54000 miles purchased new in 07 - as i was driving i heard a pop. later realized that the driver side seat is loose at the back left side and moves and drops 2 - 3 inches when sat in. wobbles when turning curves. electric seat still moves back and forward but does not tilt. dealer said over the phone when i called to make an appointment that it is a broken track and is out of warranty. would require replacement of entire seat foundation and would cost $1300 to repair. with so many complaints about the same defect and some much worse, why is there no recall for a safety hazard? *tr

Driver side power flat bracket/ motor broke. *tr

The driver's seat frame on my 2007 nissan murano is broken. this need to be a nissan recall with so many people experiencing the same failures. *tr

On the driver's power seat, the seat frame breaks and the seat itself becomes unstable, rocking back and forth several inches. the seat's instablilty is noticable on corners when in motion. this is apparently a fairly common occurance as both the dealership and various car repair shops are familiar. nissan's answer to this safety issue is to charge owners aproximately $1,000 to install a replacement seat frame. *tt

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan murano. while traveling 30 mph the contact heard a loud noise inside of the vehicle, seconds later the contact noticed that the bottom of the front driver side seat had collapsed. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the lifter link assembly needed to be replaced. there were no prior warnings and the vehicle was not repaired. the current and failure mileages were 46000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan murano. the contact was driving 25 mph when the electric rail track for the front driver seat fractured. the contact would have to lean to the side in order to drive the vehicle, causing extreme difficulty driving. the dealer stated that the electric rails would need replacing. the contact stated he was advised by the dealer that the failure was very common in his year, make and model and the contact believed that the failure should be covered under a recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 60,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan murano. the contact stated that the drivers seat was fractured on the left side and caused him to drift into oncoming traffic. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who stated that it was a known defect and advised him of the repair cost. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 73,000. the vin was unavailable.

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 nissan murano. the drivers seat bracket broke on the driver side. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed him that they would have to replace the entire carriage which would cost $1200. the manufacturer was contacted and advised him that he had to get an estimate from the dealer. he provided the manufacturer with a dealers estimate they and was told that they would contact more than two months ago and had not done so when the complaint was filed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000.

Drivers side power seat on my 2007 nissan murano is broken. the left side of the seat moves fine but the right side is locked in one position. i had the problem diagnosed by an authorized nissan dealer and was informed that a plastic gear on the side right side of the seat used to move the seat from back to front is damaged and needs replaced. this plastic gear is probably less than $5 to manufacture but i was told by the dealer that the whole track needs to be replaced at a cost of $750 (not including labor). there are numerous complaints on the internet regarding this issue. *tr

Drivers side seat frame broken. no accidents, or any other issues before it becoming broken. we need to replace the frame of the drivers seat costing $1200. there are multiple complaints on the same issues with the same model/yr. as well as the same model and different years. *tr

The driver seat frame on my 2007 nissan murano broke while i was driving and i almost lost control of my vehicle. i went by the dealer today and they said same is not covered and want me to pay one thousand dollars for a new frame even though they know same is defective, they said until same is deemed a safety issue /recall they are not going to fix anything for free. *tr

2007 nissan murano driver seat, left corner weld is broken and rocks while turning corners or driving. if you are not sitting in the seat you can just move the seat freely and it is obvious that it is broken. nothing was done to correct this as not covered under warranty. i feel this is a big safety concern as you are the driver of the vehicle and need to control it, meanwhile you are sitting in an unsafe seat that is broken. *tr

Seat bracket broke, which seems to be a major safety defect in the nissan murano. when i attempted to adjust the seat only one side would raise, the other was broke....no other event led to failure. cant even buy an updated part, nissan only sells the same defective part. *tr

Suddenly, while driving my 2007 nissan murano today, i heard a "snap" sound, and the driver's seat began leaning to the left. not feeling safe in the car, i stopped to inspect the seat, and found that the steel frame was broken under the left rear corner of the seat cushion. the car has been driven 50,000 miles at this point, so it is no longer under warranty. this is obviously a safety issue for this vehicle. *tr

Tried to adjust the seat and heard a large crack. seat has never worked well again. seat is like a weeble wooble. it leans to the right. nissan has to know about this problem, construction problem with these particular models and years.

Nissan murano driver seat base is broke in 2 pieces. *tr

The driver's seat has somehow separated from its attachment on the floor. when the seat is raised for a short driver it is becomes clear that the left side of the side isn't attached to anything! one can rock it from side to side. *tr

I brought my car in for an oil change and when i picked up the car i was told my lift link was broken. i informed the dealer that it was not like that prior to bringing car in. he told me nissan murano had a history of this defect. i was never told of this defect. i question why the dealer failed to tell me this upon leasing the 2007 murano and secondly how it just happened to break during a visit. the technician explained to the consumer that the lift link keeps the seat in a stable position. he then proceeded to show the consumer that the driver's seat was rocking from side to side and could be dangerous in case of an accident. the consumer stated there was nothing wrong with the seat, when the vehicle was dropped off at the dealer. the consumer also stated the driver's side visor would not stay in the upright position. the technician examined the visor and stated it was broken and needed to be replaced. updated ivoq 08/12/10*jb *tr

Driver power seat of nissan murano breaks for no reason while i was driving the vehicle. i am only 179 lbs. left rear bracket broke and seat becomes unstable. it is shaking from left to right and front to rear. when press the brake pedal, seat leans to the back. it also may be dangerous because seat has a safety bag. *tr

I have a 2007 nissan murano that experienced a break to the drivers side seat frame. the metal support at the back of the seat sheared off from it's weld to the rest of the seat frame causing the seat to suddenly rock backwards. nissan usa refused to repair this defect at their expense and are charging $1,132 for an entirely new seat frame assembly. after searching the internet and finding many, many other owners with the same issue, i took my car to a local welder here in cincinnati ohio and had him weld the piece back to the frame. he also shored up the other side and took out the passenger seat as well and found a crack in the metal support frame on that side. that was welded also. i am concerned at nissan's apparent disregard for the potential safety issue here. it seems to me that there are enough similar problems to warrant a recall for defective design and/or manufacture. the local welder i used in cincinnati told me this was his 4th murano. that's one local welder in cincinnati. thanks for your attention to this issue. *tr

The seat mount failed on my 2007 nissan murano. in reviewing the damage, i discovered that the mount is a thin strip of inferior metal. in exploring options to fix the seat i went to the dealer, who said a repair would be approximately $1,500. i do not believe that this is a maintenance issue and is definitely a safety issue. in reviewing the database there have been several investigations but with no recommendations. please help. *tr

Driver's side seat just broke - seat rocks back and forth while driving, more noticeable when stopping and accelerating. looked underneath seat and it appears one weld is broken, the other side's weld may be cracked. *tr

Front seat in the 2007 nissan murano is off it's bracket, can't afford to pay over 2,000 to get it fixed. the whole frame is broken and it shakes when i sit in the car. the car has less than 60k on it. *ln

I have a 2007 nissan murano s model with a broken seat linkage bracket on the lower left hand side of the drivers seat. i was 3 months out of my warranty with only 25k miles, the vehicle is moderately used and it's a big safety issue. my seat no longer stays upright and will rock on the left side. *tr

Driver's left rear seat attachment point gave way during a shift in body weight. this created a floating type condition as the left rear of the seat shifted up and down in correlation with the vehicles movements/cg shift. took vehicle to dealer to point out unsafe condition and was told that it was not covered under warranty despite the vehicle being only 3 years old with less than 100,000 miles on it. *tr

Left side of seat frame broke. drivers seat. dealer quoted $1250 to repair. not safe to drive with loose seat. *tr

The driver's seat frame broke in my 2007 nissan murano. fortunately at the time my seat snapped i had parked my car in the driveway and was getting out; had i been going down the freeway at 65 mph the result could've been much worse. after a thorough look we found a metal support bracket on the back left side of the chair snapped in two resulting in a chair that was unstable and rocked. this problem is well known to nissan. a look at murano forums will demonstrate that many people are having the same issue and the cost to replace or repair the seat is considerable. *tr

My 2007 murano has a cracked support bar that allows the seat to rock back and forth as i drive. the cost estimate was over $1000. i have driven over 1 million miles in my life and have never experienced a cracked seat (49,000 mile on the car). *tr

The problem i am experiencing is the same as the following report... nhtsa action number : pe08065. *tr
