I was driving my 2005 nissan murano when we hit a bump and my drivers seat dropped, after i got home i checked and the metal seat frame had cracked on the left rear side of the drivers seat. i worry because if this happened during an accident the seat would offer no support to the driver and could even hurt the passenger behind the driver. i have called nissan usa and told me to get a report from dealership and there was no recall
The driver seat frame broke under normal use. no unusual stress was placed on the seat to cause it to break. with this in mind, this could be a safety issue while the vehicle is being driven. the back seat frame breaking while being driven could cause an accident if the driver loose control of the vehicle when the seat back breaks; particularly if both sides break at the same time. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan murano. recently, the driver's seat broke, causing it to rock during regular driving and tip over when going around turns. nissan north america and the dealer refuse to repair the seat under warranty, stating that it is a result of "normal wear and tear". i did some research on the internet and learned that many people have the same problem. i attempted to locate the part myself and learned that nissan has changed the part number seven times, in attempts to fix this problem. i was unable to locate the part as it is in high demand. the driver's seat is a major safety concern not only due to the bouncing and rocking but the possibility that it will disconnect completely. i can't even fathom how this seat would hold up during an accident. last week, while i was driving to work, a tractor-trailer entered my lane of travel. i swerved to avoid hitting it but, due to the broken seat, my body flew toward the passenger side of the car, nearly causing me to totally lose control of the car in the process. my car ran off the road but, luckily, i did not hit anything. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan murano se. as i was going 60 mph in the fast lane down the highway, the seat snapped ,tilted to the left then lurched backward becoming unstable. i almost loss control of the car and injured my back. i had to pull over to the side of the road and the bar that is in the lower bottom of the seat bracket broke off and the screw that anchors the seat to the floor became unstable. i had to find a way to secure the seat to ride home and lucky me had some patio bricks in the back which are now holding this seat up otherwise it will collapse. i called nissan headquarters and they will not help me and they do not care. the dealer wants $1,800 to fix which i could put down for another car because i will never buy a nissan again. also , the door handles have broke ,the differential and a long list of many things with this car. i take care of my car but this model is a nightmare. they could offer something of a discount but too greedy. i could of loss my life with this car but i am lucky to be an older driver and experienced. the seat has no support and will fall over backward. there should be a solution the bracket that holds the support bar is thinner than a dime and is a manufacturing defect. this could of happened at any time depending on the type of highway you travel no matter the mileage or the age of the vehicle. the driver's seat is a safety issue not like the passenger seat. *tr
The pivot, which attaches the driver's side seat to the car, broke. now the seat wobbles severely and in the case of an accident, would not be firmly braced to the vehicle. *tr
Driver seat is broken and moves on it's own while vehicle is in motion. *tr
My drivers seat in my 2005 nissan murano failed while driving down the road. i was going around a turn and something popped and now the seat rocks back and forth on the left rear of the seat. not very safe having a seat that rocks while driving and broke while driving. luckily i was able to get back on the road when it broke. it is very scary to have it break as you drive. *tr
2005 nissan murano. consumer states welds have broken for a second time on the driver's side seat. *tgw
2005 nissan murano - driver seat broke and is a safety hazard. *tr
Broken welds in the driver's seat base frame. first broke abound 4/9/2008. aftermarket seat heaters had been installed by a vendor previously. took vehicle to vendor, found broken welds in the driver seat base, causing the base to drop down and to the left. vendor removed the driver seat, aligned, reinforced , mig welded the affected areas. vendor reassembled and tested seat, appeared to be solid. 9/15/2010. driving vehicle at moderate speed (35-40 mph) , loud "pop" , then left rear side of drivers seat dropped down. no loss of control , but now an obviously unsafe situation. 9/22/10. took vehicle back to vendor (see above), vendor pulled off access panels and verified that welds performed in 2008 were solid and that the frame had broken in another spot. declined to even attempt a repair at this point for safety concerns and advised contacting dealer for new part. 9/22//10 visited nissan dealer, seat inspected by technician, stated that the rear lower drivers seat frame was broken and would need to be replaced. the service dept quoted a price of $750.00 parts, $275.00 labor, for a total of $125.00 plus tax. this is a serious safety problem in my mind. the car has 44,000 miles, was purchased in, and spends much of it's time in florida. there is absolutely no rust or corrosion anywhere i know of. i believe this is a defect and should be covered by nissan. *tr
My driver side seat in my nissan murano frame cracked. while i was stopping at a stop signed and i thought i was going to go head first in the windshield. i f my kids was in the car then no telling if i lost control or hit my head no telling what would have happened. had no problems with this before and now it seems there is a lot of complaints about the same failure as what i have had here. i have not repaired the seat yet and will not drive the car again until it is repaired. *tr
Ref complaint #[xxx]of 9/8/10. driver seat collapse/nissan murano; tues 9/7/10. this is a follow-up because i am understanding that this issue was reported before and simply "dropped" by your department. this is a "safety issue" which could have been disastrous had the seat collapsed when our daughter (short and tiny) was driving the vehicle a few days earlier on a trip from springfield to richmond va. thank god she did not encounter the problem then. the support for the seat broke! we have the part. this should not have happened and nissan should take responsibility for the replacement. people are "welding" the part back: what happens if that should break and an accident occurs? one should not be encouraged to take this route!! we would hope that your department would take this seriously and have nissan recall these vehicles for a total refit of the seat before catastrophe happens. thank you. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan murano. while the vehicle was parked as he set in the driver's seat the back left side of the seat collapsed. he had notice before the seat collapsed that the seat was wobbly. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and he was advised that the frame of the seat was broken. the contact stated the dealer has ordered the part and he was waiting to hear back from them. he called the manufacturer and was waiting to hear back from them also. the failure and current mileage were 52,000. updated 1/21/11 *cn updated 03/23/11
Got in vehicle and driver right seat came unattached from the floor and is still like that. wobbles back and forth and not attached any more creating a huge safety issue. bought the car less than a month ago and dealership not returning calls and are acting like they don't know what happened as if i am the first person to report this. there should be a recall as my seat is not attached to the car. *tr
Nissan murano drivers seat defective - while driving my murano last year, the seat weld in front broke causing the seat to lean excessively and almost causing me to have an accident as i was driving. the nissan dealer said it was a common nissan defect but since there was not a recall i would have to pay for the repair. i paid my mechanic to weld the front break and to include additional support braces. on tuesday of this week, while pulling into a parking lot at 5pm, a different seat weld in the back broke causing the seat to lean to the right while cornering left. because of the extreme and sudden movement i lost control of the car, rolled across lanes and up onto a curb, almost taking out 4 people sitting at an outside table at the local glory days restaurant. i could not reach the brake pedal because of the angle. luckily, i did not hurt anybody or damage anything other than possibly throwing a wheel weight off of the front right tire. from visiting many murano owner forums, i see that literally hundreds and hundreds of owners have had a similar experience with these welds breaking and have been told the same thing by their local nissan dealerships "it's out of warranty and unless a recall is put out, you're paying close to $1000 for the fix". a manufacturers or design defect that almost caused me to run over 4 people yesterday should indeed be a concern of nissan and it seems that it is not. any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. *tr
I was driving north on i-75 in atlanta, ga. my driver's side rear seat bracket broke. i nearly had an accident since the seat shifted and forced me to change my body position unexpectedly. i've felt/looked at the broken bracket then researched it on the internet. it appears this failure is common on my murano, however, nissan hasn't performed a recall to repair the known safety issue. what can be done now, before someone dies from an unexpected seat bracket failure? *tr
Driver seat left side of seat, bracket broke while driving. the seat is unstable and dangerous to drive. *tr
2005 nissan murano, driver seat, rear left seat bracket broke during normal driving conditions, causing seat to become unsafe and to sag badly in back left corner and seatbelt to sit in wrong place. *tr
Drivers seat is off hinge. took it to nissan for review. they said it's not covered under warranty due to mileage. known issue for seat to break on welded left corner but will cost over $1000 out of pocket to fix. had nissan customer service investigate, they refused to cover as well. faulty seat known issue and cannot get them to pay to fix it. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan murano with just over 80,000 miles with power seats. the driver's side seat bracket is broken and i am told it will cost nearly $1000 to repair. this is a safety issue and a manufacturer's defect. my vehicle was not involved in a collision or other event that would cause the seat to fail. *tr
2005 murano driver seat "popped" when entering car. seat now has excessive movement up and down in right rear corner. very unsafe condition to drive in since there seems to be no solid connection to the frame. after removing seat discovered the linkage mechanism between base rails and seat bracket had failed - stamped metal part had catastrophically failed in two locations. failed part is integral to seat frame and cannot be replaced. similar repairs noted on internet quoted at approximately $1000. design constraints for the part should have exceeded the cars intended lifespan and should not be affected by normal usage. safety of driver and occupants could be severely impacted if vehicle operated with this condition. this is a pathetic failure on any vehicle - let alone one with only 75k miles. *tr
Seat support cross-bar broke, seat now floats when driving
Seat frame bracket on driver seat snapped. problem is widely reported online. avoided dealer ripoff fee of over $1,000 by having independent mechanic weld the failed hardware. *tr
On july 31, 2010, the driver's seat on my 2005 nissan murano made a popping sound, and suddenly started leaning to the left. a few miles later, there was another popping sound, and the seat started rocking left and right, and was very unstable. i took it to the dealer's service department today, and they told me the seat frame was broken and that it was a common problem for this 2005 nissan murano. the seat breaking unexpectedly is a serious safety problem, as it causes the seat belt to be incorrectly adjusted and can be too tight or too loose. also, if this broke when i was driving on the freeway, i could have easily lost control of my car as the seat lurched to the left. if you do a google search for "2005 nissan murano seat frame", you can find hundreds if not thousands of complaints about this exact issue. nissan refuses to repair the seat, even under extended warranty, and they won't issue a recall. this is a known manufacturing / mechanical defect, and it should be repaired at no cost to the vehicle owner. *tr
2005 nissan murano drivers side seat back left weld broke. *tr
1. normal use and driving 2. has failed 1 time, seat rocks everytime i turn 3. welded a new bracket on the seat. this eventually broke as well. *tr
The front drivers seat frame broke under normal operating conditions after getting into my vehicle (i weight about 160lbs, 5'7" tall) on july 25th, 2010. i have not yet gotten this problem fixed because it is going to cost about $900 to fix it. *tr
I just recently purchased a used 2005 murano. the car now has approximately 70,750 miles on it. as i was getting into the car to go get groceries, i felt the seat immediately rock to the rear left. i got out of the car to see what was wrong and because of the plastic near the base of the seat i wasn't able to identify, but noticed that i could lift the seat up back and forth. i didn't purchase an extended warranty which i believe wouldn't have mattered anyway from everyone's previous postings, but i cannot afford 1000$ for a repair that everyone seems to be having in the same exact place. this should be a safety hazard and one that is fixed by nissan. this isn't a radio going out or anything of the sort. the seat moves when you make turns, etc, and makes me wonder if it really was worth purchasing this car for this amount of money for this to happen 2 months later. nissans are supposed to be fantastic cars and hold their value. so far, i am not seeing it. please recall this defect. it shouldn't take peoples lives to be put at risk to have anything done. look what happened with toyota? *tr
The rear left bracket on the driver seat of my 2005 nissan murano failed suddenly while i was driving at a constant speed in a straight line. the vehicle has 44k miles on it and has had no symptoms of an impending seat failure. the failure caused the seat to swiftly rock back and to the left, causing me to lose control of the vehicle momentarily. luckily i didn't hit anything, and i was able to regain control of the vehicle. i had my 6 month old baby in the car, and this situation put her at unacceptable risk of injury. discussions with nissan corporate (1-800-nissan1) and the dealer have been fruitless. both were aware that this was a known problem, with a tsb issued years ago (nissan tsb ntb05-043d). they were unsympathetic to the danger their design flaw posed to my family. nissan offered to fix the problem, at a cost to me of $670. a safety issue like this, even explicitly mentioned in the nhtsa list of examples of safety-related defects (seats and/or seat backs that fail unexpectedly during normal use), is absolutely unacceptable. i am completely at a loss to understand why this issue has existed for years in multiple muranos without a recall being issued. just look at all of the other complaints listed on this site. hundreds of them. something needs to be done. *tr
1. the events leading up to the failure. - all i did was sit on the seat and raise it to a different height. 2. the failure, how often it occurs, its consequences; and, - the metal frame broke underneath the seat resulting in the drivers seat rocking back and forth. 3. what was done to correct the failure; i.e, parts repaired or replaced (and if old part is available) nothing at this time, the dealer wants over 1,000 dollars to replace the seat frame. i'm considering welding the seat at this time. *tr
Driving through a parking lot and over a speed bump when the driver's seat suddenly slid all the way back on the track and started leaning to left. *tr
On july 17, 2010 the driver's side seat had failed on my 2005 nissan murano. the driver's seat frame had broken causing the seat to rock from side to side and front to back. the seat has a factory defect causing the frame to fail. there are hundreds of complaints for the 2004, 2005 2006 and 2007 nissan murano with the same failure. this is terribly dangerous and will cause loss of control and life threatening. fortunately for me, i was driving in a parking lot and going rather slow. on july 26, 2010 i had the nissan dealership repair the seat and replaced the defective part. the cost was $471.43. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan murano. the bracket weld under the drive seat was snapped suddenly. the drive seat is lopsided to the left while driving. i have to insert some wood blocks underneath the seat to keep it level. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan murano. the contact was driving about 20-25 mph when the drivers side seat anchor broke. the seat began to rock and repeatly hit the driver's side door. the seat was lowered to the lowest position to stop the rocking. the dealer was notified and the vehicle was scheduled to be taken to the dealer on july 1. the manufacturer was notified and they told her there was no recall on the vehicle and gave her a report number. the failure and current mileage was 72,000.

Nissan murano vin-[xxx] - driver side front seat rear frame defect my vehicle driver side rear seat frame broke on 06/19/2010 approximately around noontime. as i was driving my murano nissan and came to a stop at a stoplight, i heard a hard snap and felt a little jerk towards my left side. unsure of what it was, i continued to drive my vehicle down the road. as i was driving my vehicle, i felt a rough thumping underneath my seat. i thought for a minute that my front driver side tire was going flat or had some kind of problem. as i drove further to find a safe place to pull over to check it, i felt my front seat sway back and forth, as i accelerated and as i was braking. i accelerated again to make sure that the swaying motion was actually happening. again, the swaying motion (back and forth) of the front seat occurred. i looked underneath the front driver side rear seat and saw what looked like a black metal track frame supporting the seat. in the area towards the rear left side of the frame was one of four metal prongs that were broken away from the metal track frame of the seat. knowing that this was a very unsafe issue, i looked for help to resolve the issue as soon as possible. using the internet, i found numerous shocking complaints sites regarding nissan muranos' rear seat breakage. i contacted a local news station (3onyourside), who investigated the issue and found it to be legitimate and true. not only was my vehicle in question about the defective part, several hundred complaints were found throughout the internet. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Nissan murano 2005 front driver seat has come loose on one side, is lopsided and rocks back and forth while car is in motion, while turning, braking and when it comes to a stop. even while you are wearing your seat belt you have no safety restraint as your body is projected forward and sideways from your seat while driving. i weigh 170 and my wife, who is the primary driver weighs 125 lbs. during one driving incident,my wife was averting a tree limb on the road and made a quick, but slow turn only to be jostled to the side of the car and hitting her head on the driver window. luckily she was not injured as the turn was minimal. nothing extraordinary happened to lead to the seat break. one day my wife sat in the seat and noticed it felt funny. the seat repair is not under warranty. cost of repair would be upwards of $1200. an amount we cannot afford. *ln
Driver's seat frame broke while driving. the seat rocked backwards and was unstable during turns. it broke during city driving. i believe if it happened during highway driving, someone might loose control of the car. *tr
2005 nissan murano - i was driving and left side of drivers seat all of a sudden popped & sagged & i felt seat move around like it wasn't attached to base. it was very scary to drive it - i took it to the nissan dealer & they said a new seat frame would be $1300 but they could weld it for $350. my car only has 29,800 miles. looking at all the similar complaints on the internet, i 'm wondering why nissan hasn't issued a recall for this. *tr
I have a 2005 nissan murano. my driver side seat just suddenly broke while i was driving. i spoke to another nissan murano owner and she told me hers did the same thing and nissan charged her $500 to replace it. i think this is a bi ridiculous that there are so many complaints about these seats and nissan hasn't recalled it. *tr
Seat bracket for 2005 nissan murano power front seat broke causing instability for driver when driving. there were no deaths or injuries, but driving in such an unstable condition in the mountainous roads of east tennessee could very easily result in death or dismemberment. *tr
2005 nissan murano - front driver seat broken . i was driving and in the process of making a left turn when i felt my car seat come loose. the car has about 105,000 miles and is approximately 5 years old. this is definitely a safety hazard. if i were to get into a car accident, i can get seriously hurt. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan murano. while driving approximately 65 mph the front drivers began to shake. the vehicle was pulled over and upon examination he noticed the seat was detached from the mounting tracks. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where it was confirmed that the front drivers seat detached from the mounting tracks. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 63,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan murano. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the drivers seat head restraint began move to move back. the contact was unable to reposition the seat. the dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the drivers seat assembly was broken needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the failure and current mileages were 63,363.
My driver's seat suddenly became more like a rocking chair. when i accelerate i tilt backward letting my foot come slightly off the pedal. the resulting hesitation of the vehicle makes me rock forward causing my foot to then hit the pedal and lurch the vehicle forward! what would happen should i get in an accident and the entire seat come loose ? *tr
Seat bracket broke causing seat to wobble side to side, weakening other points of attachment. i had the seat bracket welded twice so far and it has rebroken twice. internet research revealed that these brackets break very frequently in 2003-2008 nissan muranos, even those with very low mileage. nissan recognizes that this is a faulty design, as their replacement part is much stronger and totally different, yet no recall. quite a safety issue when your seat comes loose while you are driving! seats should not disconnect from the car with normal wear. i weigh 170 pounds, not above average for a full grown adult driver. *tr
I own a 2005 nissan murano that i bought used from carmax in 2007. i have had regular service performed by an asce certified mechanic since then. on 5/18/10 at less than 45k mi, the base of my driver seat suddenly broke one morning when i got into the car (parked in my garage). i weigh <120 lbs and was stunned. it was an obvious safety issue that could have resulted in serious injury, so i had it repaired immediately (5/20) through my regular mechanic. total cost was $942.66 ($742.08 for the part & $127.50 for labor). i was extremely upset about being forced to pay so much for something beyond my control. everyone agreed that it should never have happened, even my local nissan dealership. the dealership confirmed it was classified as a mechanical defect, checked recalls (none), and suggested i call nissan consumer affairs specifically to request goodwill assistance (compensation for repairs). they said since i had the repair done at an asce certified mechanic, the request should be fine. nissan consumer affairs took my info & and established a case #6838133 on 6/9/10. i was assured i would be contacted by a regional specialist w/n 24 hours. when i did not receive a return call, i placed 5 more calls over the next several weeks. all assured me they were urgently requesting the regional specialist/supervisor to contact me. i re-contacted my local nissan dealership at that point, who then attempted to call on my behalf and seek assistance through their area representative. after the 7th call, ms. jimenez (rude) called back to explain that nissan's policy doesn't allow compensation for repairs not handled by nissan, even though nissan employees told me differently and were calling on my behalf. i want compensation for the $942.66 i paid for a manufacturer's mechanical breakdown-seat base should not have broken- which could have caused serious injury or death to me/my passengers. ca dca found similar 2008 complaint thru nhtsa dismissed b/c no one hurt badly enough?!!? *tr
While driving my 2005 nissan murano the drivers side seat collapsed. this caused a temporary loss of control of the vehicle. luckily we were not in an accident. my brother in law's drivers seat also collapsed. i have found numerous similar stories on the internet. when asking nissans consumer affairs to look into the matter they took 21 days to investigate. they finally told us that they would not pay any of the $900 that was estimated to fix. they stated that it was due to the fact we did not have our warranty. i'm not sure why it took 21 days to figure that out! *tr
I own a 2005 nissan murano awd. the power drivers seat track has broken for no apparent reason. the problem seems to be on the left side and when i turnto the left, the seat raises up and gives you the feeling that you might tip out of the seat. the seat is also loose when entering or existing the vehicle. when i took it to the dealer to be fixed, they informed me that it would cost over $800 to fix and that it was not covered under and extended warranty. due to the extreme cost, i cannot afford to have this fixed. *tr
