Problems with 2003 Nissan Murano SEATS

On average, the 2003 Nissan Murano starts to “feel” problems with the SEATS and its various aspects after 75 979 miles.

Recently reported SEATS problems on 2003 Nissan Murano

Drivers seat on 2003 nissan murano is broken. it shifts during driving and leans from side to side. very dangerous and bad on the back. *tr

2003 nissan murano front driver seat broke while driving. now rocks back and forth. *tr

Driver seat on 2003 nissan murano has breaking seat frame. seat tilts toward driver door on turns making it extremely hard to control the vehicle. nissan refuses to acknowledge there is a safety or manufacturing problem when contacted. have found over a thousand reports of same condition on 2003-2006 models. this condition almost created a head-on collision while i was at the wheel. dealership cannot repair without nissan approval and as i stated nissan refuses to acknowledge there is a problem. it is either a design problem or a quality control issue for the manufacturer nissan. if this is not a legitimate safety issue then i guess i don't know what one really looks like. it appears that nissan is holding out until there are some fatality accidents before acting .. seems like then it will be too late. *tr

2003 murano, driver seat bracket support failed. *tr

While driving my 2003 nissan murano around a left turn, the driver's seat suddenly lifted up on the left hand side. it felt as if the seat had become unbolted from the car. i was obeying the speed limit at the time and there were no out of the ordinary circumstances. after further inspection, there is a metal bar across the back on the bottom of the seat that has broken. i consider the seat to now be unsafe and i shudder to think what would have happened if this had happened during an accident. i feel there should be a recall for this part due to safety concerns. there is already a an nhtsa investigation under way. case id pe08065 . please add my complaint, david kerr *tr

I own a 2003 murano and the driver seat just broke one day. now when i drive, i am thrown against the door. any bump in the road relocates my driving foot due to a rocking motion.the dealership said it was the track assembly and could fix it. (part alone is $641) called nissan headquarters and was given the excuse it was out of warranty and no recalls have been listed. i believe this a design flaw that nissan won't live up to. the internet is full of complaints about this same exact problem. i have never had a driver's seat break in all my years of driving and owning cars. the mileage of my car should not matter. (i have a1936 truck and the seat has never broken. ) any type of movement is dangerous. please help me and other owners by making nissan face-up to this design flaw and have a recall on this particular issue. *tr

I have a 2003 nissan murano within the first three year of ownership the drivers seat has broken while driving normally when making a right hand turn. i've owned the car now for 5 years have 52k miles on it and this has now happened three times. the first time it was fixed andunder warranty the second time it was fixed but i was charged and the third time just happened on feb 7 2009 the second fix last edonly 1 week over 1 year. which negates the repair warranty. i am unsure how this will be fixed but a driver can and i have lost control f the vehicle as the seat drops back and you fall backward. this coul;d cause an accident and a potential fatal situation. a seat in a car should not reek once a year. *tr

My 2003 nissan murano se awd driver side seat track broke and causes it to rock back and forth. this poor manufactured seat will cost me $1000.00 plus to replace and this is a hazard overlooked by many nissan murano owners, buyers and nhtsa. there should be a massive recall on these seats immediately. see consumer complaints: - http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=1548 - http://www.justanswer.com/questions/17era-2005-nissan-murano-broken this is a potentially dangerous situation for all murano owners. *tr

Seat rocks wont move up and down. *tr

Drivers seat failure, bracket broken and nissan/dealership states this is not covered under warranty issue although it is clearly a safety issue and there is movement of the seat when starting and stopping the car as well as with turns etc. *tr

Seat rail broke while getting into vehicle. second time this has happened first time was repaired by dealership 15 months earlier. seat is now loose and can be moved up and down. *tr

Driver seat loose do to powerseat failure. *tr

I noticed the drivers seat in my 2003 nissan murano rocking and leaning to the left. when i looked under the seat it was obvious that something was definitely broken. i took it to a nissan dealership where they informed me that the seat frame was broken and that the whole assembly would have to be replaced to the tune of 1030.00. when i googled this info i realized that murano owners all over the country were having this problem. some of them had the problem fixed only to have it happen again. this is obviously a design defect that nissan needs to take responsibility for. do we have to wait until this problem starts causing accidents and deaths? *tr

I have a 2003 nissan murano that has a broken seat track. after researching this failure, i discovered that this is a very common failure and that the only way to fix it is to buy the entire bottom seat assembly from nissan. the cost of the part alone is almost $700. i see this as a significant failure and a accident risk. *tr

My drivers seat in my 2003 nissan murano (which i just bought about 2-3 months ago) rocks forward and backward upon acceleration or stopping. it is slight but annoying. i took it to the dealership and they said they knew what the problem was and replaced the seat assembly for about $1800 worth of parts and labor. well, the problem is still there. i took it to another dealership and they say they can't reproduce it, but everyone who drives my car feels it. while at this point it is more annoying than a safety issue, i've read of cases where the whole thing breaks and the seat will come off! if i get in a crash and my seat does not stay attached to my car, there will be a lawsuit. p.s. i would add my vin if i had it with me, but it is at the dealership. *tr

The driver's seat has broken twice under warranty and repaired. now it had broken a third time out of warranty for the exact same issue. tsb's have been issued and now a new part number has been listed, which really combines the two previous fix part numbers. extremely unsafe! god help most nissan murano people if they get in an accident with a broken seat. *tr

I have a 2003 nissan murano and i have the issue of the front drivers seat rocking because a weld broke. this apparently is becoming a major issue and the dealer reminds you that it is a safety issue when they ask for $900. fortunately after speaking with another dealer i found there was a replacement part and it could be fixed for $350. i am reporting this because i am disappointed nissan is not covering this type of issue as it is not like a part wore out and second because if someone else has this issue and is injured or killed it should be recognized. i am very disappointed with nissan. *tr

The frame in the drivers seat cracked, causing the seat to rock from side to side on turns. specifically the frame cracked on the left rear side of the drivers seat, so when i took left turns, the seat would tilt to the right. very dangerous feeling. my vehicle was past the 36k warranty (i had 50k on a 5 year old murano) so this was not covered by nissan. i think there should be safety recall since this is apparently a very common issue on muranos. *tr

The metal frame under the drivers seat broke in two places allowing the seat to rock side to side. its the frame directly under the seat and not the assembly bolted to floor. i consider this a safety defect because the car has not had any rough use and has been properly maintained. *tr

The driver seat began "rocking" when taking corners. it was no longer attached to the frame as apparently some welding was performed insufficiently. it required a new seat assembly, which would have cost almost $1000. after searching the internet i realized this was not an isolated incident and wanted to file a report so the nhtsa can have a better understanding of the quantity of these issues. *tr

The driver side electric seat failed to move.adjust. i was refused warranty as the vehicle had 33000 miles on it. i was told the cost of the part was $1500 and installation additional. it is my wife's car and she weighs 100lb soaking wet. i found that there is a huge problem with this design as there are hundreds of remarks posted on the internet. please help. this seat needs fixed; however, it is not cost effective for us to fix it and we can not sell it as is. *tr

The failure of the drivers seat frame on my 2003 nissan murano. although this failure did not cause an accident, it could certainly could have caused one. the left rear support structure on the lower seat frame gave way suddenly causing the left side of the seat to drop about 8 inches. if this had happened while driving at highway speeds the sudden shift in position and loss of balance could have led to a serious accident. *tr

Front driver seat broke in the assembly nissan murano 2003. *tr

Front drivers seat was lose about 6 months ago, dealer looked at it and told me that the entire seat assembly needs to be replaced for $1100. i called nissan as the car was just out of warranty and nissan would not covered seat replacement. recently the entire seat frame is damaged/cracked. thus causing the seat to sit incorrectly. this finally cracked fully while driving. which startled me initially as the car was moving and it felt as if i fell out of my seat. *tr

2003 nissan murano, power driver's seat failure, unable to adjust, broken drive gear, happened as seat automatically moved to preset driving position when key was inserted into ignition switch, unable to adjust seat to safe driving position. *tr

Drivers seat became loose. power adjust appears to have come off tracks, broken a gear, or some other mechanical failure. have not been to dealership as of yet, but quick internet searches reveal this to be a very common problem, yet nissan will not acknowledge responsibility. wife can no longer use my vehicle because seat is only safe when fully back and down. *tr

Drivers seat mounting bracket broke. seat rocks when turning, braking and accelerating. seat belt is attached to this bracket. *tr

My driver's seat of my 2003 nissan murano started leaning. i took it into the dealership and they said the seat adjuster was broken. they would not return the car to me without completing the repair, sitting safety issues. nissan refuses to pay for the repair, so the car was held hostage until i paid for the repair. nissanusa says the dealership was correct in not returning the car without completing the repair, but they do not consider the repair covered under the extended warranty as a covered component, nor a manufacturers defect. while the car has 77k miles, they are primarily highway miles driven by me. i can count on my two hands the number of times the seat has been adjusted. the dealership said a piece of metal in the seat adjuster broke and it would soon puncture the seat and possibly cause the seat to malfunction. doesn't this sound like metal fatigue? *tr

2003 nissan murano drivers seat frame broke - seat not safe in an accident as it moves whenever the car turns a corner. dealer advised they have seen a lot of these murano seats brake, but nissan refuses to take blame for defective part. dealer advised $1,226.00 to repair. *tr

The drivers seat on my 2003 nissan murano has broken. it wobbles and leans forward and to the left. after searching for a solution on-line, i've discovered that this is a common problem with this model. there is no doubt that this is a safety hazard. nissan will not fix it. it should be recalled. *tr

I own a 2003 nissan murano and the drivers seat bolster is broken. nissan is saying that this is not covered (my auto is out of warranty). there are a number of nissan murano owners experiencing the same issue. *tr

The driver seat has become loose and "rocks" forward and back. the driver seat "rocks" on the pivot of the front-left and rear-right. the rocking motion occurs during vehicle acceleration and braking. the seat failed about 1 month after extended warranty expired. i cannot afford the $1200 repair at this time. the unsecured seat is dangerous and the operator is subject to injury or death in the event of a crash. the seat is also a distraction while operating the vehicle, as an audible snap is heard along with a jolting force causing a slight reposition of my body. *tr

2003 nissan murano front seat frame broken right rear back side. car has 74k miles, this is second time. first time at about 10 or 15k miles. *tr

Drivers side seat is loose, moves (tilts back and forth) when accelerating/decelerating or getting in/out of vehicle. *tr

2003 nissan murano drivers seat bracket broke at 42,000, repaired by dealer for $850, " not covered" they claimed. broke again at 105,000, but i suspect it broke around 90,000, not sure since i'm only regular driver of the vehicle. same problem with the identical location on bracket dealer does not acknowledge problem with design of part. *tr

Drivers seat failure began with loud, annoying squeaks. the squeaking resolved itself when the left side rail/seat support snapped. the seat now tips about 20deg off its level axis, and i am sure the integrity of the seat being safely secured to the vehicle has been compromised. this is not an isolated incident. nissan, while having a long standing tsb on tis, refuses to see it as a safety defect? what will it take? perhaps when the lawsuits start coming in from people being hurled from the vehicle in traffic incidents then they will sit up and notice. a seat belt can only work if it straps you to a secure seat!!! *tr

2003 nissan murano drivers seat subject to failure. seat becomes lose and moves upon acceleration and when turning corners. this problem has been identified by nissan murano owners on edmunds.com. tsb#ntb05-043a only temporarily fixes the problem and it gets progressively worse. when you return for repair and car is out of warranty they say it is a different part causing the problem and is not under warranty. the seat rocks forward and backwards and from side to side. *tr

My seat stopped working. the dealer wanted over $2500 to repair the electric driver side seat. there is a huge problem with the design and it has effected a large amount of owners. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan murano. while driving 5 mph, the contact heard a snapping sound underneath the seat. when she attempted to make a turn, she heard another snapping sound and noticed that the seat moved from side to side. the contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failures. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. the current mileage was 54,000 and failure mileage was 48,000.

I have a 2003 nissan murano with 39,893 miles. since i purchased the vehicle the driver's seat never felt secure, time passed and the problem has gotten worse, the dealer advised i would need a new seat frame. i requested a goodwill adjustment but nissan corp. denied my request. i feel this is a safety issue because i have a toddler and she sits in the backseat and if i were in an accident and the seat frame broke during impact it would certainly cause injury to my toddler and myself. *tr

A few days ago; during normal driving and turning right on a street near my house the driver seat swim left pushing my body again the window and at the same time losing control. this is a very dangerous situation and if a car was locate at the other side could have been involve in an accident. the car is now out of warranty and the dealer wants over 500.00 for replacing the entire driver seat track. close inspection show that a metal bar running from left to right at the read location broke on the left site; this bar is the only think preventing the seat from moving left or right; it is clear that this bar is not strong enough; the metal was also twisted. nissan should have a recall on this; people live are at risk. *jb

2003 nissan murano. consumer states engine abruptly shut off and the vehicle lost all power. *tgw the consumer was able to gradually steer the vehicle to the emergency lane. after numerous attempts, he was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and a diagnostic test revealed fuel pump failure. the consumer stated this was not the first time the engine abruptly shut off. the first incident happened in july 2007. but, the vehicle was restarted and was taken to the dealer, but they were unable to find a problem. prior to the first two incidents, the engine stalled on may 10, 2010. after numerous attempts, the consumer was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they determined the crank sensor was faulty. the consumer stated there have been other repairs such as: alternator failure, the passenger door locks routinely malfunctioned during extreme heat, the driver's power seat malfunctioned, the motor mounts were cracked, the axles were loose, and the intake hose failed. *jb

2003 nissan murano sl - failure of the driver's seat support. upon normal wear, the lifter link, part of the seat lifter link slide assembly, had a catastrophic failure where the link lifter assembly metal has snapped, leaving no rear support for the seat and allowing the drivers seat to move freely from side to side. this failure was reported to nissan north america. they acknowledged a special tsb that told of this failure and how to replace it, but would not take responsibility for the issue when the vehicle is out-of-warranty. this is a safety issue that would have unknown results in a crash. i have seen this issue reported by several owners of not only muranos, but other nissan vehicles. *tr

Power driver seat bracket broke in left rear of seat. nothing other than every day use of getting in and out of car. seat had been adjusted very little. the dealer said there was nothing they could do to fix it. this is very unsafe, i have bricks underneath to support the seat so i can drive. the car was barely 4 years old and had only 70,000 on it at the time. *tr

I was parked at work and was getting out of my car when there was a loud pop noise. at that time the drivers seat dropped on the back left corner. my friend was parking beside and asked what the noise was. when you sat in the seat it dropped backwards to the left. i called and made a appointment with lake nissan-leesburg florida. driving this vehicle was very scary because everytime you hit a bump it through you backwards. i felt it was a safety issue. they said the whole rack assembly had to be replaced $689.95 and of course i had no warranty left (2003 model) they didn't think it was a safety issue. i had contacted other nissan dealers and they thought it was a issue and that this same thing had happened before to other muranos. if i had of been driving this vehicle i know that i would have wrecked or caused someone else to wreck. luckily i was parked. *tr

While driving on the highway, the seat in my murano broke loose as i was headed into a curve. the seat actually threw me into the driver side door and caused me to jerk the wheel and run off of the road. upon thorough examination by my self and an authorized nissan dealership, a bracket that holds the seat secure to the track system had broken. the mechanic advised me that it was a defect and that he had not seen anything like it before. this particular support bracket is a critical piece of the seat assembly and without this piece the vehicle is difficult to safely drive and could cause an accident. also, the piece is most likely to break under tension such as entering a curve as was the situation in my case, or swerving to avoid an accident. in either event, the unexpected malfunction could cause the driver to loose control of the vehicle. more troubling is the possibility that the piece would break in a collision, thereby throwing the driver into the driver door and the driver's head into the glass. i have contacted both nissan and the dealership from which i purchased the vehicle about the part on numerous occasions. their stance is that though the part is defective, the vehicle is out of warranty and that they will neither repair my vehicle nor address the issue with a recall to avoid any future accidents or injuries. i even offered to send nissan pictures of the broken part and they were not interested. the representative did not even bother to log in the correct part when i spoke with him. he logged it as a broken seat track. when i advised him that it was not the seat track but the actual seat, he dismissed it by saying that was the category that nissan had established for seat malfunctions. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the driver's side seat is shaking lose from the frame due to a fracture in the frame. the seat moves forward when the accelerator is applied and backward when the brake is applied. the dealership has been notified. *ak updated 5/16/2006 - *nm

The drivers seat rocks when turning, braking and accelerating. the seat was checked out by a mechanic who informed me that the seat rod is cracked from metal fatigue. i am reading that this is very common with the 2003 murano. *tr

Front drivers seat rocks back and forth with acceleration or braking. dealer has a tsb outlining repair of problem. if out of warranty the dealer will charge $400 for repair. i am questioning the safety of this seat as the vehicle ages. will the seat fail during an accident? *nm

Driver's seat slides around. was a problem when i bought the vehicle in '05. took it back to the dealer and they said it was my problem to fix. it is a 2003. slides and is uneven. someone needs to protect the consumer from crap like this. *tr
