We have classified the 11 complaints from 2003 Nissan Murano about EQUIPMENT into the following categories.
Front door locks working intermittently when using the remote.. *tr
Alternator failure 2003 nissan murano almost cause a accident. *tr
A road object which went under the car not over any tire struck the gas tank and punctured. the installed recalled added tank protector did not keep the tank from being struck and causing a leak. the car was repaired at the makers dealership without any recourse from the previous recall campaign. the recall added device did not perform as described in recall ?nhtsa campaign id number: 06v003000 *tr
While driving my 2003 nissan murano awd sl i suddenly loose acceleration, the engine will not rev and the rpm indicator is 0, the engine is still running, there are no warning light indicators. after several minutes the accelerator will re-engage and the car will accelerate again. this has happened 5 times in the last 2 weeks, took the car to the dealer and they could not find anything wrong, no codes issued. i have replaced in the past 3 years the transmission in the last 7 months the fuel pump, the catalytic converter, the o2 sensors have all been replaced. the dealer indicated that this not a problem they have been aware of and have no idea what it could be...sound like they are not being exactly forthcoming on this issue. *tr
This statement is in addition of numuras safety recalls. july 2008 on interstate 22 myrtle beach my 2003 murano stalled out with son and daughter. july 2009 it stalled out in whiteville nc. it stalled again. on both occasions nissan replaced a blown a blown fuse. nothing else. august 2010 traffic the murano stalled at 65 mph in heavy traffic nearly causing a ten car pile up. we were lucky. towed murano,to nissan of myrtle beach, fuel pump was replaced. on all the recalls mailed to us refer:these safety recalls could cause fire or crashes. my wife is afraid of our death trap of our 2003 murano. the fuel pump is not a recall, but if you look up complaints on fuel pumps and blown fuses you see i am not the only one my car is a death trap. i want a investigation done. *tr
On tuesday may 11th my 2003 nissan murano began to make a loud grinding noise which has been attributed to a crack in the transfer case. the murano has 113,000 miles. this was not caused by an accident and happened without any rigorous use of the vehicle. my concern is the commonality of this failure and no action on the part of nissan. this is a major issue and can cause serious harm to the consumer. in doing research cost is expected to be over $3000. *tr
Transfer case seals have failed for the second time after having been replaced by the dealer in the fall of 2008. nissan north america refuses to acknowledge an issue with leaking transfer cases in muranos. they have put in place an extended warranty for cvt transmission failures, however, did not include transfer case problems. *tr
Front drivers seat mounting bracket has been replaced four times because it rocks when driving and/or stopping. this is an obvious dangerous situation that can very easily cause serious injury and/or death to the driver and possible other people in the vehicle in the event the drivers loses complete control if this seat bracket breaks. i just had it replaced again, and it has the exact same problem. nissan has obviously made a defective product and keeps installing the same defective type when a customer brings it back for repair. all dealers consider this a problem but, they also express there is nothing they can do if they keep getting defective replacement parts.. ie: old stock. *tr
I have had to tow my vehicle 2003 nissan murano 3-4 times via acsc automobile club of southern calif and physically took it to the same company twice. paid over $2900.00 out of my pocket in which i am disabled permanently due to heart disease and collect social security, and at one of my stales in the middle of laural canyon and roscoe blvd when i am not even allowed to pick up things under 5 pounds no pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending avoid wetness, fumes, gases, heights, humidity, dust you get the picture i am only 40 and i have the heart of an 75 yr old women anyways i hade to push my car all by myself for over 50 ft before someone helped me god was definetely watching over me!!!! now lets gt down to business like i said earlier i took my murano to the same dealership they never could find out what was wrong i kept telling them about the car problem they never took me seriously. av nissan was the same stupid dealership charged me thousands and finally now the recall. i want my money back not all but they let me drive off never fixed the same complaint. as i described earlier about the stall in the intersection i have broken down 4 or 5 times and it was very phyisically hard on my whole body let alone my heart and that was just wrong!!!!!! *tr
I own a 2003 nissan murano sl awd. the fuel tank shroud was installed in compliance with recall campaign 06v003000. the shroud is of such a bad design that it has broken in normal winter driving. the materials used are too weak and the design does not provide sufficient protection for the tank. overall, this design is terrible, and does not solve the requirement of protecting the fuel tank. nissan need to come up with a better design that better conforms to the profile of the fuel tank--the current design protrudes down too far and is too easily damaged. *tr
The driver's seat has broken twice under warranty and repaired. now it had broken a third time out of warranty for the exact same issue. tsb's have been issued and now a new part number has been listed, which really combines the two previous fix part numbers. extremely unsafe! god help most nissan murano people if they get in an accident with a broken seat. *tr
I have a nissan murano. ever since i purchased the car it is used, i have nothing but trouble with it. the place i got it from replaced the transmission and the new one is slipping everytime i drive it. *tr
I was traveling out of town alone with my 3 children and after we had been on the road for about 3 1/2 hours, the front windshield wipers came on by themselves along with the back windshield wipers, the lights were going on and off by themselves, the left blinker came on by itself, and the dash information (dte, fuel economy) was just coming on and off by itself. there was water coming out of the fuse box on the drivers side, and you could hear a sizzling sound. i took it to the nearest nissan dealer, they said they fix it and i got back on the road and it happened again 2 hours later same stuff. i just turned off the ac and kept driving with everything going crazy, because all the service departments were closed and i could not get anyone to help me. when i arrived at my destination i took it to the nearest nissan dealership the next day and they said that the ac hose was loose and was allowing water to get into everything. i hope it is fixed, but i am now scared to drive it anywhere and i have to travel 6 hours away from home every now and then because i have a child 6 hours away from home in college and you never know when i will have to go up there unexpectedly. i am thing about trading it off because i do not feel safe in it anymore, but the trade in value is a lot less than the pay off. *jb
This car has a serious safety flaw in that it hesitates from an idling stop. when you press on the gas while sitting with the engine idling the car will just sit there and then lurch forward suddenly. i first had this problem with the vehicle in 2005 or thereabouts, took it to the dealer (wilde nissan waukesha wi) who contended they could find nothing wrong with the car. this was/is a very intermittent problem which comes and goes without warning, you never know when it will happen. i subsequently took the vehicle back to the dealer several times and got the same story. eventually the dealership changed hands and the new owner (boucher nissan waukesha wi, same address and location as original dealership) was diligent about researching and finding the problem. it was diagnosed as a "valve body problem" by the boucher folks. nissan refused to honor repair claims and costs which were estimated to be around $1500 because the vehicle was "out of warranty" at the time boucher identified the defective condition. i firmly believe that nissan should have honored repair costs as this is a serious safety flaw in this vehicle which could result in a crash or serious injury if not death of driver. nissan has taken a very negligent and non caring consumer response position on this matter. the nhtsa should take nissan to task to repair this serious safety defect in this vehicle before someone is seriously injured or killed because of the defective condition. *tr
In february 2005 the alternator failed to charge the battery and the car slowed to a complete stop and the battery died in the middle of a busy intersection. i had to tow the car to the nearest dealership and the car was repaired 48 hours later. in march 2005 the gas tank lid wouldn't open and the car was running out of gas. i drove the car to the dealership and it took 48 hours to repair. however, the "repair" was done by prying the lid open and i still have not recieved the new part. in may 2005 the transmission failed in the middle of a busy intersection and i had to tow the car to the dealership. they still have the car and expect to have it for two weeks at least. they cannot guarentee that they will pay for the rental car costs which will amount to at least $350 at $25 a day. this car only has 35,000 miles on it.
Car stalled and failed to accelerate and then gave out. waited three hours to be towed to nearest dealer by 1-800-nissan. alternator and battery were replaced nov 2004at 36000 miles at no cost still under warranty. may 2005 brake light and battery light came on car started to stall on higway. made it of the highway into a parking lot and car gave out. had it towed by dealer. alternator was once again replaced at no charge because i have extended warranty. asked dealer if there was problem and they said no. since then the car shuts of immediately after starting engine. i left it at the dealer again on 5-24-05 to be checked. my warranty will soon run out at 49000 and i have no confidence that this problem will be resolved. i have also reported the problem to consumer affairs at nissan. i have one more year left on my lease. i recently received a promotion from bill seidle nissan in miami where i had my car repaired the first time, that says that they are doing a special test market promotion. they are in desperate need to acquire prew-owned 2003 nissan muranos by may 31st. they claim they will buy back my current vehicle. not a bad offer but i do not want another nissan. please help.
Three separate incidents of cd-changer/player failure, each time unit was replaced with a "new" one. two failures of rear cup holder. one failure of vehicle alternator at approximately 19,000 miles. most recent failure was the ipdm control module at approximately 20,000 miles. mysterious ongoing transmission hesitation, cause unknown.*ak
I have a nissan murano 2003 & have had the following problems with it. i was on an online forum & there was a link to this site to list the problems i have had with this vehicle. my car was purchased in jan. 2003. since then i have had the following problems: defective alternator defective bose cd player defective battery defective cupholder all the items were fixed or replaced by nissan under warranty. however i have read that many people have had problems with their alternators but have not reported to a governent agency.*ak
2003 nissan murano se 4wd has several issues. firstly the right side sun visor clip is defective and will not hold visor in place: 3 trips to dealer have not resolved this issue as they never have the part. secondly the cvt transmission presents a problem on holding the vehicle in place on a uphill incline...if you don't brake, the vehicle just rolls back, as opposed to standard auto transmission which locks, and prevents significant rollback. *cb
Very poor radio reception from day one on 2003 nissan murano. canot receive low power fm stations. this very annoying after repeated complaints, no one has a fix.i cannot even get an antenna booster.*ak
