Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2009 Nissan Maxima

Passenger side air bag sensors keeps on resetting as no one is sitting on the seat. i have to tell the passenger to jump on the seat for the "air bag off" light to reset. the cvt transmission putter at low speed with a with lots of noise, i have to give it more gas for the noise to stop. the passenger front door lock and driver side rear door lock does not unlock. fog light on the car is not working, i was told my a mechanic that the relay switch that is built into the steering column is no good and will need to be replaced.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when the remote start was depressed on the key. the vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000. the vin was unavailable.

2015 hyundai genesis sedan. radio, navigation, xm, tcd/dvd won't play. screen comes in and out constantly. battery drains. on my 2nd battery. been back and forth to service. 50,000 miles. hyundai now includes warranty for 2016 models because of these problems???

The car, while driving, reverts back to idle rpm and pressing the gas pedal does not propel the car. this happened after being repaired by nissan. on another occasion it completely lost power while driving.

The steering wheel lock locks and doesn't allow you to start your vehicle. this is very dangerous as i live in minnesota and had the sterrring lock trigger which left me stranded in fridged temperatures. this is a safety issue as it happen with out notice and could cause harm or death by not being able to start your vehicle. this happens when the car is placed in park and the ignition is disengaged.

Stopped at conveniance store and shut car off. tried to restart car and it won't start. had it towed to the dealer ship where i bought it. found that it was the steering lock that had failed. cost to replace was 1300 dollars. found out this is a high failure part and should have been recalled.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. the contact stated that there was a progressing failure in which the push button start failed to function. the contact indicated that the ignition lock mechanism internally malfunctioned, which prevented the vehicle from starting on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for further diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.

The electronic steering column lock went out and i was unable to start my car. i had to have the car towed to the dealership for which i had to pay $1,100 to get a problem fixed i never even heard of. there was an extended warranty on this part that "expired" a year and a half ago. nissan never recalled this part that is clearly a problem.

Steering lock module failure causes car to lock ignition and prevents starting. no failure warning before car becomes disabled. web search reveals this is a common problem and should be covered under recall. nissan refuses to acknowledge this problem covers multiple years and models. no notification from nissan warning this problem was occurring over several years. over $1000 to repair. my vehicle left me stranded when i stopped at a overlook on afton mountain. required towing to nearest dealer for repair.

I went outside to start my vehicle and it wouldn't start..the steering wheel is locked and i can't get it unlocked..the steering wheel symbol with 2 up and down arrows on both sides of it lights up on the dash and a red flash in car symbol with a key in the center of it is on along with the lock word on the push button..it won't go past the lock button when i try to start it.

My 2009 nissan maxima is no longer starting and the brake and steering wheel have locked. it does not recognize that i have a key even though i do. any attempt to start the vehicle results in a sporadic tick tick or screeching type noise for lack of a better word.

Escl part is defective. makes car completely inoperable. manufacturer knows original part is defective but no recall. extended warranty has expired and now part cost has doubled. part was $380 but now is $680 with a slightly different part number. cost doubled after warranty expired!

Steering lock box repair. extended warranty was issued & needs to be extended indefinitely. this is a manufacturer defect. consumers will experience this inconvenience at different lifecycles of the vehicle & should be given the same reimbursements/courtesy as other 2009 nissan maxima or altima owners.

Electronic steering column lock. 41.4 k miles on car. parked car, went to start, key light went on and the car was immobilized. towed to dealership, filed a report with nissan. warranty extension specific to this issue no longer available by 6 months. $1,071 repair denied by nissan because it was out of warranty. could have been major safety issue if i was stuck in a remote location.

Stranded twice car will not start because of steering lock module not releasing allowing the car to start.

The steering wheel lock unit failed making the car not start leaving my wife stranded at a convenience store on a cold night. nissan knows this is a widespread problem but is still letting its customers foot the $1000 bill for their poor design. it is a safety problem when it leaves my wife stranded!

Luckily in the driveway after loading car for food bank delivery, i tried to start but no light asking to press foot on brake to start came on was my first clue something was wrong. key locks/unlocks/open trunk/alarm works but will not start engine. "key warning light" comes on. tried both keys but nothing. disconnected/reconnected battery without success. steering wheel is unlocked. insert fob to try & start manually but nothing. my neighbor is a local mechanic & came over to help. stumped him so i guess i will be calling to get a tow to dealership in the morning after unloading food bank donations! after reading several hundred complaints about this issue in just a matter of few minutes, i am sure there are hundreds of thousand nissan unsatisfied customers who have had to deal with this. step up nissan & do the right thing. i do not have $1000 to fix this problem. we also have an altima so wondering when that will go too. no more nissans for us!

I was never notified that my 2009 nissan maxima has a malfunction called steering wheel lock failure. my car was on a city street when it would not start, it would not recognize my keys fob, and i was not able to start the car with the push to start button. nothing happened. nothing on the dashboard would show. i had my car towed to the nissan dealership and this malfunction is costing me a lot of money. i did some research and this malfunction is something that a lot of people have complained about and i don't understand why this is not something that would be a recall. if this was a recall, then i never received a recall letter because i would have got this fixed a lot sooner before it happened to me.

When trying to start the car, it fails to start. steering has failed, not allowing the car to start. this issue has appeared twice on my car in 7 days. thanks to youtube.com i have been able to limp my way. i took the car to my local nissan dealer, and the diagnosis was determined that steering lock has failed. they told me that that with parts and labor it would be $1,500. i researched this issue online and found pages and pages of online forums with people complaining about this issue. i called 1-800-nissan they reviewed the case and offered me nothing in return. nissan knows this is an issue; it should be a recall; however, they are doing nothing to rectify the problem. nissan please fix this problem.

Got off of work and i tried to crank my car and it wouldn't start. the key symbol was on but that's it.so i got it towed to local mechanic through my insurance and i payed 35. they couldn't find the problem so i had to get it towed the car lot where i bougjt it from and it cost me $125. i've since did research and it seems that a lot of people has having the same problem and paying over $1, 000 out of pocket.now iam waiting for my leinholder to tell me i owe them $1, 000. i really like my 2009 nissan maxima but i will not buy another one

I was driving along a highway at 50 mph. when the steering wheel suddenly fell to my knees. this car has a retractable steering system. i was able to steer the car safely to the side of the road. i did not drive the car. the steering wheel was then able to be pushed back into the driving position. i brought the car to the dealership today, and they told me that the two electric motors in the steering column were defective (had to be replace) the cost woulkd be $2,000. the car has just 60,000 miles.

The steering column is lock and the car won't start using the intelligent key system. this was a problem with many car owners and nissan issued an extended warranty which allowed for owners to have their car repaired if this issue happened within the warranty period. i purchased my car used and didn't experience this problem until after the extended warranty expired. i feel nissan should have recalled all cars of this model to correct a problem that is clearly due to poor manufacturing. the recall would have costed more money, but it's the right thing to do.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. the contact stated that after parking, the vehicle did not register that the key was in the ignition. the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the gear lock module malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.

I attempted to start my car as i left work one afternoon and it would not start. the push start button was in the lock mode and the picture in the dash indicated that my wheel was locked, while my ant-theft light flashed continuously. i made several different attempts for hours to unlock the steering collar myself and start my car, only to fail over and over again which lead to me having it towed to a local nissan dealership, the next day. the dealership ran a diagnostic test on the car and told me that i needed a new steering lock box, which typically does not go out on cars like mine (2009 nissan maxima). this seems to be a manufacture defect but i am being charged at least $1000 to fix this problem, with no fault of my own. will you assist me in resolving this problem?

Came out to my car; car wouldn't start. push start/stop button in "lock" mode; key light indicator flashed; anti-theft light in "steady" mode. called niss. roadside asst. to be told that it would be $82 for towing to the nearest dealership after only wanting help with battery testing. i put the towing on hold. called the nearest niss. dealership directly. was told that it may be the key fob batteries. my daughter and i walked home for close asst. to drive to niss. for new key fob batteries. returned back to my car to test the key fob with no luck. doors lcked/unlcked, windows let down; didn't let back up; it was raining! used my own jumper cables for battery testing. not the battery! lights worked. my battery was brand new and recently purchased. contacted my ins. for overnight tow to nissan. researched on the issue and came to the steering column unit failing often. nissan ext. warranty is 6 yrs/unl. mileage; was relieved. nissan worked on my car from 7:21a to 3:40p. told me the steering column unit was out of warranty last yr. only had the car for 5yrs! took nissan 5hrs for a diagnostics on my car saying my battery was dead; need to swap it out with theirs to run the test. my battery was brand new! 1hr. later, diagnosed as faulty steering column module. contacted niss. consumer affairs and escalated to regional. niss. gave me a price of $1071 to fix. told nissan i would try to fix the module myself and have it towed to where i originally bought my battery due to existing warranty. however, towing was too expensive and fixing it myself would prb not work. spoke with service mgr. who said they could charge me for swapping out batteries but will only charge me $1027.98. total ripoff and nissan lied about my battery results. took it to my orig. shop; ran the battery; was in good condition and fully charged! want a full refund; should be a recall!!!! lost a customer!!!! *tr

Car does not start. difficult time getting into the car while using my key fob. when i push the ignition button there is no nose and no lights. tried jumping the car for 15 minutes with no success. i was told by the nissan dealership mechanic that it is the steering lock system. this is going to cost me for towing and labor and parts. money i do not have. reading up on this problem tells me that there should have been a recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and all the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering lock needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 133,000.

i get in my car by opening the doors with my intelligent key (in other words, the battery isn't dead). once inside the car, the key light blinks on even though i had the key in my hand. i can't start the car or even press the brake in, the car won't go into acc mode because it doesn't detect the key (again, i'm able to lock, unlock doors, open hood and even sound off the alarm through the same intelligent key..?) .i put the fob into the slot and it flashes to eject it...now my car will not start and my windows are stuck down...i went to get my other key fob and still doesn't read the key...now my car is stuck and i can not drive it...soooo what i have tried to do was beating on the steering column, making it tilt and all over n over and nothing... unplugging the battery for over 30 minutes in hopes of 'restarting' the alarm system putting in the intelligent key into the slot where the key goes (off the left side of the steering wheel) ..still key light blinks indicating i need a key....now looking this up there are alot others with this problem with a 09-10 nissan maxima and the gtr has same issue and a recall was done on that...so can we please get a recall on the 09 nissan maxima so this can be solved for myself and others? *tr

2009 nissan maxima, purchased new--key fob light indicator illuminated on dashboard, car won't start, brake lights work, key fob unlocks doors and trunk. warranty expired about 1k miles ago. i was told that the steering lock part, which may repair/solve the matter is about $1200. i am repulsed and utterly disgusted. prior to this matter, the tilt feature [for steering wheel) on the car ceased to work. *tr

The car - a 2009 nissan maxima in excellent condition - would not start at all - no turn-over, no electrics, i.e. the automatic windows could not be rolled up (during ice storm), only an unfamiliar "key" light lit up on the dash board. car could not be towed: aaa said it appears to be "steering wheel lock failure", approximately $700 - $1000 to repair... *tr

Went to the supermarket and the car would not turn back on. the key light on the dash board is lite but the car is in lock mode and doesn't allow the car to turn on. it seems that the car isn't recognizing that the key is near to allow it to be turned on. i think there should be a recall on this issue. i've seen hundreds of people with the same issue. i don't have money to fix the issue or get it towed. the car is still in the supermarket parking lot. this is a nightmare. nissan should take full responsibility for this issue and fix all of these cars free of charge. *tr

I was at the gas station getting gas. when i went to try and start it up the car ignition remains in the lock position. the car will not do anything. in the far left console the key symbol remains lit on the dash board. the key remains lit on the dashboard. i have been reading different forums and it said that it is the steering wheel lock. my car will not start at all and i even changed my battery out. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the key sensor light illuminated and the vehicle would not start. the contact notified the dealer who indicated that the intelligent key security system had malfunctioned. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 82,000.

Nissan intelligent key was not communicating with engine start function. yellow key light was on, key would unlock and lock the car, but it will not start. suspected issue from reading all other nissan maxima owner forums is that it is a steering lock failure. had tow truck take our car to the nearest car max nissan dealer where we purchased the vehicle back in september 2012. *tr

I have had several complaints with my 2009 nissan maxima, first i keep having to replace the battery which i received a new battery from the dealer in january of 2013 with an 84 month warranty, well today the battery died again. i have had issues with the steering column since i purchased the vehicle in august of 2008. the first time steering column locked and the vehicle had to be towed to dealer and was replaced under warranty. it was replaced again the next few months and i was told it was the battery and then several months later stopped working again the up and down function. second the vehicle suspension was supposedly replaced due the recall ...but i was told recently by dealer that it need to be replaced again and they were trying to charge me over $1200 for a recalled item. which i refused to pay. *tr

Reaches a normal beverage center in my nissan maxima 2009 and went out in 4 hours when not lit it wanted to turn on my car, the screen showed two intelligent keys warning lights nissan and security indicator, the key worked properly, the lights of the car too, the problem is just not turned on at all, i went to nissan dealership and are charging me 1400 usd to fix my car and i see i'm not the only one with this problem in 2009 nissan maxima is very common to have some guarantee should the damaged piece, i need help with my car. *tr

I have an automatic door lock that is malfunctioning. it is currently on the driver side door only but from what i have read online, i expect to begin happening on other doors as the actuator's begin failing. normally this may be a simple annoyance but since this vehicle uses a key fob it is not possible to quickly unlock the driver side door and there is no way to quickly secure the vehicle. there are several instances where either of these situations could put the someone at risk and in harms way, especially if the driver is relying on the safety mechanism to ensure children do not accidentally open a door that has not been properly secured while traveling. the locking and unlocking of a vehicle is intended and designed to keep the vehicle, it's contents, and it's occupants safe and is heavily relied on in today's environment. i have seen estimates to repair this issue from over $500 to almost $2,000, a fairly expense repair for the vehicle owner but a fairly inexpensive cost for the manufacturer. although this may seem like a stretch to call this a safety issue but for what other purpose are door locks intended? it is my request that the manufacturer issue a recall for faulty door lock actuator's. *tr

Tilt and telescopic motors both failed locking the steering wheel in an awkward and uncomfortable position for driving. motors continue to try and run thus depleting the battery of energy while the car's engine is off. *js

The car has power. all electronics seem to work, however, when i depress the brake and push the ignition button the car will not start. the first time i try to start it, it will turn over very slowly. then every time after that, it will give me a metallic clicking sound but will not turn over. i went through the cold and hot start up procedures to no avail. the car still has power, i.e. if i place the button to the on position everything will turn on electronically, but the car still will not start. i have had this problem for several months now. the battery is an interstate battery and has been tested as good. the only time the car will start now is if i get a jump. *tr

On 3/3/14 my 2009 nissan maxima would not start. symptoms of this issue - key recognized(unlocks and when inserted into key fob port there is a notification) - pressing start button does not work, locked remains illuminated(eg acc and on do not activate) - nissan intelligent key warning light - all lights come on in the car - brake lights work - electronic seats still move i experienced a dead battery just 3 months earlier so i was sure this was not the issue. plus i had a new battery. i googled a combination of the symptoms with my model/year and many links came up. turned out to be the "steering lock failure" which was under a extended warranty. 5 years or 72 k miles. worst part of the experience was dealing with the people at the midway nissan on bell road dealership in phoenix. the experience left me knowing that they care more about making money today than earning return customers. luckily they warranty paid for everything. but they were willing and ready to screw me over. *tr

I stopped at a store for about 5 minutes. when i returned to my car to leave, my car would not start. the anti theft and the yellow key symbol was blinking. the steering wheel would not lock so i could press the brake pedal to start the car. my car had to be towed to the dealer. they found that the steering lock assembly was faulty. the part was covered under the extended powertrain warranty. i am a female and i was along. this could become a dangerous situation and i think the 2009 maxima should be a part of a recall that is for the 2009 altima as well. the same problem! *tr

My 2009 nissan maxima does it seem to read my key anymore. it has a orange light on the top left corner of my dashboard. the car obviously recognizes the key for i am still able to lock and unlock my car. it will not turn over at all. when i press the push start button, the only light that comes on is the lock light. it all doesn't make any sense at all. i wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. one second it was working, another second it wasn't. i find this highly inconvenient that nissan service departments at the dealerships only provides aid mondays though saturdays as if people only have issues with their cars on monday through saturday. there should be a 24/7 help hotline at least. this is my second issue with this same exact problem. the first time i was told that it was a dead battery in my key fob. i went to get a new battery for it and it still didn't work. it's almost like it works when it feels like it. *tr

I returned to my parked car after commuting on the train home from work and tried to start the vehicle. it was a bitter cold evening and the temperature was approximately 3 degrees. when i tried to start the car, the key icon showed up on the left hand side of the instrument panel and the steering was locked and push button ignition did not start the car. the brake pedal was very stiff and did not "give" when depressed. also, i couldn't get the car to shift to neutral to move it when my husband arrived to see if he could determine the problem. i had the vehicle towed to a repair shop and they said it is a nissan problem and the part is on an extended warranty because of the well-known and ongoing issues. i am in the process of having the car towed to my nissan dealer to have them inspect it and repair it. they are instructed to search for any recalls or warranty when entering the vin number. i've searched the internet and it seems like a very common issue. even the towing company driver said he tows about 3-5 nissans a week with the same issue and it's very common, as it happens all of the time. i'm hoping they have this part on recall or have it listed on an extended warranty repair. my 2009 maxima has 37,000 miles on it. *tr

My 2009 nissan maxima will not start. the yellow key light on the left comes on briefly. i had it towed to the dealership and was told it is the steering column lock module and that it will cost over $900 to repair, not to mention over $100 for the diagnostic exam. i don't feel consumers should have to pay for a problem that they have not caused. it's apparent that this is happening frequently according to the research i have done. i feel that nissan should pay this cost. *tr

I parked and went into local post office. got back in my car and it wouldn't start. tried to get a jump and was told nothing was wrong with battery, doors unlocked, lights came on and hazard lights worked. called local nissan dealership and explained to service gentleman what was going on and he immediately told me the steering lock release had gone out and i needed to have the car towed to the dealership. three days later the service gentleman called me and told me it was indeed the steering lock release that'd gone out and it was $775 + tax to get it fixed. i'm baffled because my car is my only means of transportation and i can't believe that the end result is that i have to pay for this. the car will not work without this release switch being replace and i don't have the money to get it fix so what now am i to do. i began to read upon this issue and see it's an ongoing problem with '09 maximas and it has been recalled on other such nissan vehicles. i think nissan should take the responsibility for this and recall this part for its customers. this is unbelievable and also not covered under warranty. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 nissan maxima. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the power wheel lock needed to be replaced. the vehicle was being repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was not available. the vin was unavailable.

Cant start car.. seems like steering wheel lock assembly malfunction. i have looked and noticed that alot of 2009 nissans have had this issue. *tr

Warranty just expired after 5 years. few months later, the telescoping steering wheel started making grinding noises and will not telescope back and forth unless i manually push or pull hard. got quoted $850 for a repair, but i refused to pay that much to get it fixed as it is not my fault. i see many 2009 nissans having this problem and i am extremely disappointed in the manufacturer to not recall this! this might be my last nissan as i already had 3 nissan batteries, my alternator replaced and my driver's seat frame replaced! i can't wait until my car loan is paid off! *tr

I am a single 34 year old white female. i have a 2009 nissan maxima and i was downtown cincinnati at 2:00 am. i walked to the car from a business nearby and got into my car and it would not start. there was a light on the top left of the dashboard that was yellow and said key. i attempted to start it again and nothing. i contacted a friend who helped me try to jump it; thinking it may be the battery and again nothing. i was very upset that i was stuck in downtown cincinnati, now with a friend trying to help. i ended up spending a $100 on a taxi to get home and now today i find out thus is going to cost me $900. this car only has 56,000 miles on it. i should be able to feel safe. i no longer do. i hope nissan thinks about recalling this issue bc according to many online testimonies this is happening a lot to 2009 nissan maxima owners. i'll have to say i won't buy another. i had a toyota before this and i'll go back go being a loyal toyota customer. thank you for your time. *tr

The steering wheel lock issue is leaving maximas stranded unable to start the car with these symptoms: what happens is when you try to start the car, without warning, the electric lock fails to unlock sending error message to the bcm. the car will not start in this case and will flash the intelligent key warning in the cluster. *tr
