After 65000 miles transmission started to show problems. mostly from 1 to 2 gear it jumps like a mule. almost undriveable. i have spoken to the dealer but warranty is no longer active so most spend 3500 dollars. i would never buy nissan again. *kb

I bought nissan certified used car in nov 2009 . by this january 2010 i started experiencing clank or hard shift in gear from 1st to 2nd it also clanks when coming down from 2nd to 1st gear. dealer ship says it is not covered under certified warranty and i need to replace transmission. there are thousands of people who experience same problem with nissan maxima i have about 60k miles on odo. *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) nissan maxima transmissions are failing a an incredible rate. i have a 2006 nissan maxima 75k miles who's transmission has started slipping while driving. i will accelerate and all of a sudden i loose the transmission the engine revs up since i'm still pushing on the gas pedal. i am now not accelerating but coasting on the freeway while traffic behind me is moving forward and then my car will slam back into gear. i have not yet been hit from behind but it is only a matter of time. i googled nissan maxima transmission problems and found this web site http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/nissan_maxima.html there are 16 pages of complaints regarding the same or similar issues. i believe nissan has a major problem that they are unwilling to do anything about unless forced to by our government safety department. please look into this problem. We owe a 2006 automatic nissan maxima with now approximately 112,000 miles. we have been experiencing problems with what appears to be the transmission. the car will jerk really hard when trying to shift between 2 and 3; when you attempt to accelerate and when you come to a stop. we have taken the car a nissan dealership and had other diagnostic test performed. however, we were told that the entire motor needs to be replaced and their are no issues with the transmission. however, we took the car to another company who found no problems with the engine. this car has been serviced as required: the transmission has been flushed and filters replaced; spark plugs replaced, fuel injection flushed, and oil filters and oil changed. after going on the website and seeing numerous complaints regarding this issue with other nissan maximas, i'm filing this complaint because their appears to be a problem with nissan maxima's transmissions. this is a very costly expense and one that i believe nissan needs to be accountable for because it seems to be a common problem with the 2006 maxima transmissions. *tr

We have a 2006 nissan maxima. for the past several months, my wife has complained of the vehicle "jerking" as in automatically change gears and lunging forward. she travels approx 25 miles to and from work each day, plus family driving (e.g. kids activities). the issue would present itself several times a day and the "jerking" became so violent that we took the car to our mechanic to try and diagnosis the issue. he was not able to diagnose and since the issue continued to present itself, we went out to the internet to see if there was possible a recall or other information. what we found is that this has been a complaint by many individuals with regard to the nissan maxima model. my wife's fear is not only the mechanical issue, but that the car would "jerk", or "accelerate" automatically causing property or personal injury to self or others. based on the number of complaints we saw on the internet on this very issue, we feel it requires investigation. please see the attached website as an example:c:\my_data\2006 nissan maxima automatic transmission complaints.mht. *tr

Transmission jerk into 1st gear. transmission surge when accelerating after slowing down. car jerks when going from drive to reverse. problem occurs regularly when car is warmed up. after some research i found that many of nissan owners are having the same problem. there should be a recall on these defect transmission. its really not fair that there getting away with this and are still selling these defect cars. right now my check engine light is on. *tr

I purchased a 2006 nissan maxima as a brand new vehicle. recently, it started having some problems (at approximately 60,000 miles). when i change gears from park to reverse, from reverse to drive, or when accelerating from 1st gear to 2nd gear there is a hard jerking. sometimes it will take a few seconds to change gears and my rpm's go up. it has died on me at a stop light. i took the car in for a diagnosis, and they said i needed a transmission flush. i had the flush done, and the problem was still present. the problem has become worse. i have read about the exact same problem on numerous websites. i have spent countless hours researching this problem, and have come up with the same conclusion...i am not the only one with this problem!!!! please, let's work on getting a recall into effect from nissan. it's only right! *tr

I have a 2006 nissan maxima se that i bought new in jan 2007. several months ago i replaced the oem tires because i was old they were worn out and were the cause of steering wheel vibration above 60mph. i replaced the tires and front brakes/rotors at my nissan dealership and the vibration was reduced but still noticeable. it gets worse with cold temperatures. they have inspected the struts and engine mounts and say there is nothing wrong with my car but the vibration is still there. *tr

I purchased a 2006 nissan maxima with approx. 16,000 miles in september 2006. in 2009 with appox. 50,000-60,000 miles on the car, the transmission started to slip. it jerks when i put the car in reverse and drive, it shifts up and down hard and it jerks when i am at a complete stop with my foot on the break.

I have had to replace the brakes in my car over three times within a two year span. brakes continue to scrub and squeal. dealer says that they have done all they can do as they have changed multiple parts, costing me "an arm and a leg". you are a afraid to make a hard emergency stop because due to the sound, you aren't sure if they could "go out" in time. transmission: care literally jerks into gear when backing up or taking off. you can't park too close to another vehicle or stop because car literally leaps into gear possible causing you to hit another car in front of you. (feels like someone has rear ended you). *tr

I purchased my 06' maxima in 08' i had it for about 2 months and the cd player doesnt play any thing it skips spits the cd out and an error mesg. comes up. i took it to the dealer and they "fixed it" so they say 1 week later it starts with the same issue i called and they said they can do anything about it maybe its the cd. so i never got that issue fixed. an other issue is my car has about 70k miles and every time the car goes 20-30 mph it has a hard hit to change gears every time. my car get serviced every 3-4 months and now i need a new tranmission!! i only work about 20 miles from where i live how can that be? also i had to replace some kind of brake part. every time i went to brake the car made this noise and it started to shake the sound was this grinding sound then an other sound started like when you press the brakes and the roads are wet. but shaking real bad. i went to the dealer and they said its w & t on the car. when i asked him how offten this happens and he said not that offten so how can that be? other than that its little thing like my truck lock doesnt stay put i have to tighten the bolts of it once aweek please make nissan do a re-call i have read all the compalints and they are all the same and expensive issue. *tr

There is a factory problem with the 04-06 nissan maxima automatic transmissions. mine is a 06, it jerks whenever it goes from 3rd to 2nd, also from drive to reverse. it happens once the car warms up. usually after the 50k miles, some after 85k miles. the problem is in the valve body, it has been redesigned by nissan 3 times already, and they say there are no problems with the transmission. once the valve body is not working as it should, it produces internal damage also inside the transmission, then it will brake motor (en gine) and transmission mounts, it is a serious problem. also to go from second to third the engine will go need to go athigh revolutions, it may kill the engine. and an engine dead in middle of traffic is a receipt for a serious accident. i hope you can address this and make nissan fix their problems. it is unbelievable that in a car that costs 30k+ new has a serious design flaw. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving, the transmission independently shifted gears abnormally. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where it was diagnosed that the transmission was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 104,000. the consumer stated the vehicle did not shift properly between 1st and 2nd gear, sometimes not shifting at all. the rmps' were up, but there was no movement. it also responded with a thumping noise when downshifting. updated 12/05/11

I purchased my 2006 maxima in november 2007 and i had no problems in the beginning. then while trying to put the car in drive it started hesitating. this lasted for a few moves, then i noticed the car jerking. at first i thought it was something i did, but it continued to do from time to time. i went and got my transmission flushed thinking that would solve the problem. the problem has gotten worst, not i have slow done in traffic if a car in front of me is turning and when i accelerate again it will do a heavy jerk. i have two other friends who have had the same problems. i took my car to the nissan dealership and was told it was the transmission and it needed to be replaced. i told the dealer how is this so this is a nissan. he explained that they all go bad like that. i told him that i also have a 1994 nissan altima with 300,00 miles on it and i have never had a problem with the transmission. this is a manufactures problems and the way the car jerks it may one day cause a serious accident. this is no way hundreds of people can have the same problems and it not become a manufacture problem. *tr

Have an 06 maxima se the car- jerking on the upshift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, sometimes even on the downshift. the car was problem-free for the 1st couple of months but the last 3-4 weeks have been a nightmare. the jerking gets so bad, it feels like you're getting punched! the problem is intermittent and rarely occurs on the highway. took the car to my friend - a mechanic. he said there's nothing wrong with the transmission, but it seems my engine mount is broken and that might be causing the "thump engine mount was replaced and same problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that he was experiencing a recurring failure in which the transmission would need replacing over a period of two years. when starting, the vehicle would jerk violently before stalling. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised him that the transmission and the valve body would need replacing. the vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 60,000. the vin was unavailable.

I did not have a crash. i have had two vehicles with the same problems. i had a 2003 nissan altima and i currently have a 2006 nissan maxima. they both experience a jerking motion upon shifting, will sometimes stall to shift. i decided to do some research on the internet and found out that many many people have experienced this exact same problem. please help me out. this needs to be recalled. *tr

I'm having transmission problems with my 2006 nissan maxima. the car has 82,000 miles on and the problem is just starting to surface. i get a jerking motion when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd or it downshifts from 2nd to 1st. it jerks especially hard when making a turn and the car slows down and picks up speed again. *tr

Exhaust/emission - catalytic converter failed and makes terrible noise - not fixed yet. dealer says, car will work without any problems at 103,000 miles (8th year) body frame - under carriage on driver side rusted, with a bulge. dealer said, rusting it not enough, you should be able to put the screw driver or finger through the rusted portion. 35000 miles ( after 5years and 2 days) transmission - it jerks and is very dangerous on the road. repair estimation is around $3500 from the dealer. when the car comes to a stop in the traffic light, then sometimes, it does not move. after accelerating a bit, it just jumps. it is very very hard to go in a stop and go traffic. so i maintain a certain distance keeping this in mind. nissan motor corporation does not care for any of the issues. dealer comes up with one or the other reason. until now they have never worked conducively with the customers. 103,000 (9th year.) engine - the timing chain failed, engine was making the sound of a railroad. costed a lot to get it fixed, and after that, sound is not completely gone. after multiple compliants, they are not bothered. they say, use only 93 octance. 103,000(9th year)

I have a 2006 nissan, maxima i bought brand new fully loaded at $32,000 2 years after having it started jerking on me on they stated it was the motor mounts so i have been driving it that way and find out now after 80,000 miles it has been my transmission failing and slipping. it jerks so hard and the car even turns off on me at times, it struggles to drive up hills my car is still;l in great condition but i need a new transmission really??? at 80,000 miles who the hell does that, and then its going to run me almost $3,000 or more if that. this is something that should be brought to attention for all nissan maximas and be recalled asap before someone has an accident due to the transmission failing!!!! *tr

I own a 2006 nissan maxima with 58,000 mi. i have been encountering trans. problems since 55/56,000 mi. i have had trans fluid flushed with no success. the trans clanks occasionally while changing gears and emits a slight screeching noise around 3000.00 rpm's that sounds like metal to metal contact. if this was any other component i might be able to let it go, but the trans. usually gets progressively worse at a rapid rate once you begin noticing symptoms. dealer recommends new tranny. i have reviewed this issue online and there are multiple owners encountering this same issue. you would think that with so many owner having similar issues since 2004, that some type of a solution would have been proposed to loyal nissan owners that have to foot the numerous bills for the dealers ridiculous guessing game quick fixes. nissan owners are being taken advantage of and this has got to be addressed and compensated in some way. *tr

My 2006 maxima has had a shifting problem since i purchased it with about 40,000 km. the shifts from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 1st are very harsh and erratic. the problem occurs mostly in stop and go or very low speed traffic (20 - 30 km/hr) high speed shifts are no problem. took the vehicle to three different dealerships and no one could properly diagnose or repair the problem. finally found an independent mechanic who suggested that the shift solenoids were not working properly, between the two of us we convinced a dealer to change out the transmission and torque converter for new components. however, while the problem got better, it did not disappear and is now getting just as bad as with the original transmission. repeat visits to the dealer for further diagnosis did not result in anything wrong being found and they were unable to resolve the issue. ultimately i was told that it was just the way the transmission operates and there is no fix. i really like the vehicle but this transmission issue makes me hesitant to buy another nissan .... even though they have changed their transmission design. *tr
