Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2006 Nissan Maxima

When i'm driving slow in my 2006 nissan maxima, the rpms jump up to 3000. when i press on the gas it doesn't accelerate, the rpms just jump high. it mainly happens when i'm driving slow through residential neighborhoods. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact was driving 20 mph when vehicle jerked while shifting gears. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. the contact was advised that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

While driving through the town of westport, ct, the car started to jerk and then it was difficult to get past 25 miles per hour and then all of a sudden the car shut off a couple of times. i then made it to a gas station and after a few minutes it started up and i made it home. i have now been told that there is a problem with the transmission on my car that causes jerking, gear slipping and sudden acceleration and cut offs that nissan is aware of (on the 2006 nissan maxima models) and they have not addressed any of these problems or issues. i guess they will wait until someone gets killed before something happens. it is going to cost me $3000.00 to get my car fixed when it should be free because of the defect in the transmission on this model year car. *tr

I noticed that the transmission in my 2006 nissan maxima started to shift hard while driving and jerk into gear. i bought it three years prior as preowned from a nissan dealership. it had 106k miles on it when it started to shift hard and jerk. i took it to pat peck nissan in mobile, al to have it diagnosed and i was told that the transmission bands were going out and that the transmission needed to be replaced. once i started to google nissan maxima transmissions, i came across where a civil lawsuit was filed against nissan in 2012 claiming that nissan knew or should have known about defective transmissions in the 2004-2006 nissan maximas and altimas. i contacted the corporate office of nissan with my issue and to see if they were going to make this right. i then had to call them back for an status on my case and i was then told that because my warranty expired (4 months prior) that nissan would not be able to assist me with this problem. i don't understand what my expired warranty has to do with a defective transmission?? a transmission should not be going out with 106k miles, mostly highway and the car has been taken care of. while i was online and discovered the lawsuit, there were so many complaints of people with the exact same issue. there is no way that the transmission should go out in everyone's car that has a 2004-2006 maxima or altima! i have owned three nissan total and i will never by another nissan again. *tr

The vehicle shifts really hard between first and second gear. *tr

The car jerks or hesitates as it switches to drive; gears are getting stuck as they switch in stop and go traffic. *tr

Recent dangerous issues with my 2006 maxima. lately it has been jumping, or jerking when accelerating from a stop, or after mild braking. it is so sudden, feels like i may have been rear ended! i noticed two weeks ago a little jump in the rpms, but nothing too major. routine maintenance and "everything looked good". that's what they always say.. sat aug, 2, 2013, turned into a residential area from a highway, my rpms jumped so high and my car seemed to almost stall or freeze, it jumped to rpm 6. i was so startled i stopped the car and turned it off. later in the night it drove again fine. two days later, after getting off the highway, my car did it again, up to 5, then a moment later up to 4-5. i then came to a four way stop and gently accelerated only for my car to freeze/jump/jerk again but this time all the way to 7. i had to drift off to the side of road and turn my car off again. sat there for 20 min until trying to start engine and drive home, 3 miles from home, exiting a major highway. 10- 45 mph. not catching the correct gear, or not receiving the fuel properly to the engine, inhibiting all driving abilities, speed and safety. literally can feel it as a driver. incredibly scary, supposed to be safe, expensive car. do not want to be killed by a tractor trailer, all because nissan won't take responsibility, claim a recall that is obviously a nation wide issue. 255 out of 375 complaints on this websites are for the power train of 2006 maximas. power train=that is 92.7 % of the problem with 2006 nissan maxima. if that does not constitute fault, then what does? how many people have to be injured, or killed before this is recognized? disgusting, ashamed, pathetic. http://www.courthousenews.com/2012/01/13/nissan.pdf. *tr

My car started to jerk and had trouble moving from one gear to the next. as i started to accelerate, the engine would rev for a few seconds, then jerk, and finally shift to the next gear. when parallel parking, it would jerk upon shifting. i was very concerned about stalling in traffic and possibly being hit. on 7/1/13 i brought my car to the nissan dealership for inspection. the next day they told me that i needed a new transmission and valve body; estimated cost $6,000. *tr

After my car warms up if i go from neutral to drive it does not change immediately. it takes about 3 to 5 seconds then it slams into gear. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan maxima that jerks when shifting from 1-2 and r- d. the engine reeves while the shifting . *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated the vehicle jerked, while shifting gears. the vehicle was taken to the dealer a diagnostic was performed the transmission fluid and the valve gasket was replaced; however the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was taken a transmission specialist for a second opinion and the contact was advised that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 119,000 and current mileage was 124,000.

Suddenly broke down while in rush hour traffic. car was towed and had cam sensors replaced. transmission began to slip shortly afterwards. the engine would rev but the car would not accelerate. it then would begin to abruptly shift but not gain speed. there was also knocking when shifting from drive to park and vice versa. would at times be stuck at 20mph or the engine would rev. had to pull over on several occasions with my children in the car fearing that it might accelerate and rear end another vehicle or abruptly lose speed and myself be rear ended. also lets off a horrible sulfur smell. was diagnosed with transmission failure on 8/22/13 with 48500 miles. *tt

Transmission is slipping. *tr

We just purchased this maxima approximately a month ago. once the car has been driven for about ten minutes straight, there is severe jerking and hesitation as it attempts to shift gears. we even experience this while on the interstate. it almost feels as if the transmission is going to fall out. it is now in the shop due to transmission repair. i see there is a class action lawsuit filed again nissan due to the fact the they have knowledge of the faulty transmission and are not attempting to fix the issue. we are now out of money for an issue that i believe should be made very public. had we known in the beginning about this incident, we would have chosen a different vehicle. luckily for us, we were not involved in an accident like many people in the cases. i think that a recall needs to be placed in order due to this defect. i do not want anyone to experience what we are experiencing. no only are we still paying on the vehicle, we are now out of roughly $3,000 for a replacement transmission. something needs to be done about this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while stopped at a traffic stop light, the vehicle lunged forward and crashed into another vehicle. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the transmission would have to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000. *tr

When pulling out of a parking space, going from park to reverse, a hard shift is heard and felt and then from reverse to drive, same thing....abnormal. there are hard shifts and reluctant shifts during drive time. driving to an appointment, taxi in front pulled to left turn lane and almost changed the direction to come back to my lane. i applied brakes assertively (no skid) and taxi remained in turn lane so i continued by acceleration (not aggressively). the car sounded as though it was in neutral and then spun the tires. this was a normal maneuver and should not have had the spin result. the problem will be evaluated in the very near future by a reputable mechanic. *tr

I recently purchased a 2006 nissan maxima automatic transmission with roughly 47.5k miles on it. when i am in traffic and accelerating and breaking constantly, my car jams into gear. when i go from drive to reverse and back again (parallel parking, 3-point turn) my car has trouble getting into gear and then finally slams into gear. mostly happens in first 3 gears. i have researched online and noticed that this is a recurring problem with the valve body in nissan maximas, specifically 2006 models. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the tcs, abs, and the slip warning lights all illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that a rear sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. one week later the failure recurred. the vehicle was returned to the mechanic and the contact was awaiting the diagnosis. the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure and current mileage was 114,000. the consumer stated the vehicle would suddenly stop, and would not move. once he removed his foot from the accelerator, the vehicle would just take off. updated 12/16/13

My transmission is failing after only 71,117 miles. the rpm revs but the car doesn't move then it jerks into gear. this problem is occurring in several 2006 nissan maximas. there has to be a manufactures defect with the transmission. this problem has been ongoing. my question is what is the nissan corporation going to do. i will not purchase another nissan until they rectify this issue with the failing transmission. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle jerked abnormally as the check engine warning light illuminated. the failure was recurring. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 53,900.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that the vehicle jerked abnormally hard when shifting gears. when the vehicle would accelerate, the transmission slowed and slammed into gear. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer determined that the transmission exhibited an internal failure, which needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 17,000 and the current mileage was 149,000. *tr

Engine starts fine. when car is shifted from park to drive there is a delayed engagement, followed by a harsh thud as car goes into gear. i have worked professionally as a mechanic and have rebuilt several automatic transmissions. this appears to be a problem with the valve body. the internet is covered in complaints on this problem; just go to google and type in "maxima transmission problems." unfortunately, most people don't have my mechanical aptitude and the nissan is not owning up to the problem so it ends up costing the customer $3,000.00 -$4,500.00 or more to have the problem fixed. my car no longer has the "harsh delayed shift," initially in the morning, but after driven 30 miles or so, then the problem manifests itself. let me know if i can help in your analysis. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle began to jerk, lunge and decelerated independently. the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the transmission would need to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileage was 70,000.

While driving at slow speed i noticed that the gear shifts were really hard and jerky, both up shift and down shift. i pulled over and stopped the car and put the car in park it was fine then when i put the car in drive it did no slowly move forward like it normally would. so i pressed the gas pedal slowly and noticed the gear shift into first really hard it felt like something just hit the car. i researched and found that several people with this 6th generation nissan maxima (2006) and the 5 speed at have the same issue. i called nissan and they did not offer to fix the issue for me. i was told that i did not have a "business relationship" with the dealer and they would not be able to help me. upon asking to elaborate what a "business relationship" meant, they told me that it was not serviced by nissan dealerships on a regular basis. i am really disappointed with nissan for not taking responsibility for using faulty equipment. *tr

Transmission on my 2006 maxima is slipping significantly!!! initially began acting up when putting in reverse from park or going from reverse to 1st. had the transmission fluid checked--no problem found. now, however, it slips when accelerating on the highway. the resulting jerk is as bad as having been rear-ended!! several times the transmission has hesitated so long when accelerating from a stop, that i have been afraid of being hit by the car behind me. moreover, the slippage seems to be exacerbated when the a/c is running--which makes no sense to me--but the jolt i get when it finally finds the next gear is clearly much worse. at 100,000 miles, i'm going to be out-of-pocket for a new transmission that should have lasted at least twice the mileage!! i take care of my cars--got nearly 250,000 out of each of my previous cars: 2000 accord, 1993 mazda 626 and 1985 camry. this is the first and last nissan i will ever buy!!!!! *tr

1. when slowing down around a turn, upon accelerating, there was a hard knock. almost felt as if i had gotten rear ended. 2. when slowing down to a stop, shifting from 3 to 2 was also very hard. *tr

Transmission is slipping and bucking so hard that it feels as if you either hit someone or someone has hit you from behind. causes you to lose speed and makes the cars behind you to slow down to avoid rear ending collision. when the vehicle is like this it gives you a very uneasy feeling as to what will happen next to cause you to become a hazard and put yourself and others in danger. the vehicle has gone through 2 rebuilt transmissions already this year alone and the problem is starting to resurface again. *tr

Within the last month or so my vehicle has begun to display what appears to be a transmission problem. when i put it in reverse, then back into drive it hesitates and then jumps into gear. when i am accelerating (about 30-40 mph), my vehicle will hesitate or struggle to shift into the next gear. this happens most often at 30-40 mph but it has happen at faster and slower speeds and has happened with accelerating and decelerating. i have brought my vehicle to a repair shop who replaced the engine mounts at a cost of almost $1000 and that didn't fix the problem. now they are stating the problem is the valve body. i brought it for a second opinion to the nissan dealer and they state that i need a new transmission at a cost of $3500. i am about to bring it for a third opinion to a transmission shop. this is a safety concern in my opinion because the transmission could completely stall or give out while driving. i have researched this problem extensively online and have found hundreds of other stories of maxima owners with the same or similar problem. i don't understand why nissan hasn't been forced to recall these faulty transmissions. they obviously pose a danger to the public and they are obviously aware of the situation. i have found out about class action lawsuits against nissan and have found out that nissan has extended the warranty on the cvt transmissions (in the altima), but i don't have that type of transmission. i would like to request that the nhtsa look into this problem further and take a look at the sheer number of owners who are dealing with this problem or who have. i would like to request that you demand nissan to recall these vehicles and correct this problem. there is no reason that a transmission should need to be replaced in a vehicle after 70, 80 or 90 thousand miles. thank you! *tr

I was driving my '06 nissan maxima se home from work on the interstate. i pressed down on the gas to get into the other lane because traffic was speeding around me to fast. upon me trying to get into the slower lane my car started to buckle and jerk and not have any power when i pressed on the gas pedal. my car just lost all power but the care was still running. i had no control of the car. traffic was speeding around me and i looked up and saw a 18 wheeler slam on his breaks because my car was slowing down and stopped without warning. no brake lights or anything. my car was just creeping along in the middle of 5 o'clock traffic on i-20 at i-95n. i did not know what to do so i just sat there until finally a break came in the traffic about 30-45 mins later. other drivershad to skid off the road to avoid hitting the cars infront of them because my "safe, dependable, and durable" maxima was stuck and about to cause a whirlwind of a traffic pile up if not deaths because of the problem that my car has with its transmission. i had my vehicle to the nearest nissan dealership and they denied anything was wrong with my vehicle. not to mention that i had to pay the diagnostic fee for them to tell me that my car has no problems with the transmission. so, to make a long story shorter, i am out of a fee for the diagnostic charge by dick smith nissan in columbia, sc. they claim that there is nothing wrong with my car! however, they did say that i need to spend $4,600 for a new transmission. i will never buy another nissan product ever!!!!!! *tr

Vehicle hard shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. it also hard shifts during deceleration around 1st or 2nd gears. this problem is widely reported on nissan forums and on the internet. i believe it should be investigated as a recall issue as it has the possibility to cause injury. it feels like you are getting kicked when it does it. *tr

Sudden acceleration after the brakes were applied. vehicle 1 hit two other vehicles, minor damage to them and then vehicle 1 flipped onto the driver's side. no one was injured. nissan maxima has been serviced twice for sudden acceleration at the nissan dealership. the nissan maxima was judged to be a total loss due to the damage incurred. *tr

First after buying this nissan maxima 2006, i noticed that my head light lamps needed to be changed every 14 months. i never had a car where i had to replace the head light lamps so often. both of my other cars (toyota and honda) have over 100k miles and we never had to change the lamps on those cars. next, the abs brakes are not working properly, really? after 70k miles? wow! later i found out that this is a common problem with this car. the abs appear to be running while the car is moving and on dry roads. finally, the transmission. why do i have a slipping transmission on a car with only 64k miles. after research, i found out that the problems that i'm having with this nissan maxima, hundreds of other owns are having the same problems. i always had honda and toyota cars and i decided to try something new in this maxima. i will never buy nissan again, i'm running back to honda and toyota!!! *tr

Transmission is shifts hard when put in reverse and drive. while driving car tends to shift hard. *tr

The car would not go when i was pressing the gas pedal after stopping at the light. it has continued to have sudden stops. when trying to drive on the interstate the car will not exceed 40 miles per hour. *tr

Whe warmed up rpms shoot up. hard shifting between gears. *tr

From 0 to 60 second and third gear jerks violently, hesitating between gears. after stopping at the vehicle remained in 5th gear and would not down shift back to first. stranded in traffic attempted to drive forward, engine is revving at 3500 to 4500 rpms, but not accelerating. *tr

When driving the car it slams into second and third gear. then when i put it into reverse it will not go into reverse right away and sometimes it slams into reverse and jerks the car. *tr

While entering the onramp, the car began to hesitate and then it did a hard jerk as it shifted gears. once i reached my destination and attempted to place the vehicle in park, the jerk happened again before going into reverse which almost caused me to hit the car that was parked in the adjacent parking space with a family of four in it. *tr

Hard shift in low gears when engine is warm/hot. will rev up to higher rpm when driving slowly then shifts to higher gear. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle jerked abnormally. the failure was recurring. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

I'm concerned that the defective transmissions that nissan knowingly placed in the 2006 nissan maxima is and will continue to cause bodily harm and fatalities. my car started out jerking, slipping so bad it would cause whip lash. now it's at a point i have it parked because i'm scared that i, my family, or an innocent driver will be in an accident, or potentially killed. i recently called consumer affairs in reference to this matter and they wanted $5,100 to fix it. it's a shame that they knowingly are charging the consumers and harming the innocent. i'm a soldier!!! what if i half way protected this country? i pray someone will look into this matter. innocent lives are at stake.... *tr

In october 2012 it initially started when i was shifting into drive and the car jerking forward. then about a month later at a stop light it jerked forward when i accelerated as the light turned green. the acceleration was sluggish (like going from 1st to 2nd gear in a standard) you could feel the change in gear. once the gear changed occurred and the speed was constant it seem to catch and go into drive as normal but this time the check engine light came on. the jerk forward was very noticeable and very scary. as a result i brought it to an auto mechanic, they ran diagnostics and a code came up of po750. this code relates to the solenoid pack which is in the valve body and a part of the transmission. the mechanic did a lot of research and finally went to the nissan dealer to find out how they solved the problem and their answer to him was to replace the transmission not the solenoid pack. the dealership was familiar with this "defect" because they had replaced quite a few transmissions as a result of this problem. i then went on to a website, aboutautomobile.com, and found numerous complaints related to this problem for the 2006 maxima. this is unacceptable and really should be looked at. the median mileage that this defect occurs is around 77k. this problem poses a dangerous situation when driving, a high cost repair (3500 dollars) to replace the transmission which is what the nissan dealerships recommend and not a good feeling about a car that's not really that old. please let me know what can be done about this issue or where i can go to get help. of course the extended warranty ended in march 2012. which makes it a lot harder to deal with. Transmission hard inconsistent shifting, jerking, lurching, slipping. *tr

Vehicle jerks at low speeds between 10-25 mph while accelerating and decelerating (1st-2nd gears). vehicle also jerks from shifting park to reverse or drive, reverse to drive and drive to reverse. vehicle jerks so severe at low speeds, it feels like being rear-ended. vehicle will do this while trying to merge into traffic which is a safety hazard. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly jerked forward. the failure occurred intermittently while driving and also idling. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the transmission would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000. mah

My car was under 90k miles when it experienced transmission slippage, premature clutch wear, overheating, and other problems that ultimately resulted in serious and expensive damage to my vehicles transmission.

This vehicle has been maintained well over the years. it is absolutely incredible on how many people share the same problems that i have and that nissan has not done nothing about it. my car started shifting really hard from 2nd to 3rd gear, it also gets stuck on 5th gear once the transmission is heated up. i know that it is the transmission that is defective or else there would not be so many videos on the internet about how to repair the solenoids that are inside the valve body. the car is in horrible driving condition and i even drive around with my hazards on because of the violent downshifts shake up the car and myself. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan maxima. the contact stated that the transmission hesitated whenever it was placed into gear and it shifted hard whenever the transmission switched gears. the contact stated the failure did not happen all the time, but was re-occurring failure. the contact had the vehicle inspected by a dealer who diagnose that the transmission needed to be replaced. the contact stated that when the failure was not occuring the vehicle runs completely fine. the failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 67,000. updated 01/02/2013*lj the consumer stated the failures withthe transmisson has not been resolved, so, a new tranission would likely fail in 60,000 miles updated 1/9/2013 *js

Transmission jerking and slipping going into and out of 2nd and 3rd gear. very hard jerking. nissan will not replace unless i pay $3,400. saying internal transmission problem. the transmission shop said that it was the internal valve and all these nissan transmissions have this problem. the one he would put in for me will have this fault. *tr

There are many incidents of erratic speed changes. more precisely, exiting from highway i slowed to near stop, light changed i accelerated and vehicles rpm increased then banged into gear and jumped into lane. other examples when vehicle is put into drive or reverse it will hesitate then leap forward, this may not happen for awhile then next day it happens again. at times when decelerating vehicle will down shift then shift up causing erratic stopping distances. *tr
