2005 nissan maxima purchased new in 2004. the car keeps making sudden violent jerking movements while driving creating a potential hazard for a car accident. when this happens i have to pull over and restart the car. i can not drive the car on major highways and can not go more that 35mph. the car feels like it is slipping when attempting to drive after being at a stop. there is a long hesitation before the car begins to drive after being put in gear to drive. it also jerks forward suddenly when it does decide to move. sometimes the car won't move when attempting to accelerate. at stop lights i have to shift gears at times to get it to move. another incident included the car not stopping. i had to move it into first gear to get it to stop. the car jerks backwards when reversing. when these problems started the car was taken to nissan because we suspected a transmission problem. they told us it was not the transmission but instead motor mounts, rods, and bolts. i spent almost $3,000 to repair it and the problem still continued. now, i am being told that it is the transmission and given an estimate of $3100. nissan has diagnosed this problem. we discovered that there are thousands of other consumers with the same complaint for the 2004-2005 maxima. this indicates that this is a common problem that nissan is actually aware of. the battery has also had to be replaced 3times. the power doors no longer work neither does the sun roof. i have to drive to get to work and to get the kids to school. i do not like to drive with my kids in the car for fear that the car will not stop again or that there will be a collision because of the jerky movements and the cars hesitation. nissan has been contacted. no resolution has been offered at this time. car is still at the dealership. *tr

Transmission issues. after 65,000 miles 2005 nissan maxima jerks between low gears shifts and slips frequently during normal driving. a transmission flush has been done on this vehicle as recommended by nissan service staff however issues continue. *tr

I leased a 2005 nissan maxima and fell in love with the car so much that i purchased the car when the lease was up. shortly thereafter, i began smelling burned oil. i also noticed the car began to jerk really hard going from park to drive and going from drive to reverse. i took it to the dealership and they informed me that the transmission was going bad and they were going to replace it. the car had approximately 44k miles on it at this point. the dealership replaced the transmission with a remanufactured one. the car was fined but seemed not to have the same power. anyhow, three months in to having the remanufactured transmission i noticed the car would not go into the driving gear. the car would only move in reverse. the car only has 46,524 miles on it. *tw

Nissan has a huge transmission problem. it seems to be a serious and common problem with 2005 nissan maxima cars! my maxima was jerking between 1st 2nd and 3rd gears, rpms reaching 4 during shifting, hard jerks in down shifting; a 5 sec pause when putting the car into reverse or drive, i also heard grinding noise when shifting. this occurred on a daily bases.i had to pay $3,500 for a rebuilt trans. nissan headquarters refuse to; look at my car...at that time i only had 95,000 miles nissan said my warranty expired. nissan told me i wasn't a true customer because i wasn't getting my oil changed by them on a regular basis. (i paid my car off in full in 2005 how devoted is that) nissan needs to take responsiblity for this faulty transmission. i will never ever buy another nissan again. on top of all that my abs system is completely gone it's too much to repair. *tr

I own a 2005 nissan maxima with approximately 63,000miles. i have been having transmission problems, mainly jerking going from 1st to 2nd gear and vice versa when downshifting from 2nd to 3rd. i have gotten it inspected and transmission flush was done, but the problem still persist. being that my vehicle is no longer under warranty, nissan is asking for $6000 for a new transmission. i'm not the only one with this problem. please click on the link attached so you can see the numerous amount of other maxima owners with the same issue http://www.carsurvey.org/viewmorecomments_review_61092_3.html. *tr

My wife and i purchased a 2005 maxima sl in october of 2004. we have had the front struts replaced 5 times. this is an inconvenience for us. when we asked the dealer why this keeps happening, they stated it's only in the new york, tri-state area. the south and west coast does not encounter this problem. this is ridiculous to us. they claims that the new york city streets is the reason for the issue. we need help!!!!!!!!! *jb

I am having the same problems as indicated with other consumers. my care jerks. i have replaced the axles, air flow meter, ac line, ignition coil, spark plugs, alternator, etc. currently, the timing change and tensioner needs repairing, the axles again from the jerking. i am a single mother who can not afford all of these repairs. i do not know what else to do. i will never buy another maxima. i also have had a diagnostic and it revealed 1 problem and once fix i still continue to have more problems on top of the jerking. enough is enough. *tr

Purchased a 2005 nissan maxima in december 2004. by march of 2005, the strut assemblies (both) had been replaced 3 times and the vehicle was in an additional time for the same complaint of noise in the strut assembly but was repaired to no avail. may 25, 2005: noise in the front end again. upon inspection from the authorized nissan dealership in corpus christi, tx, it was said that the noise was coming from a faulty rack and pinion. prior to this (upon conclusion that the struts needed to be replaced a third time), i asked nissan to buy back the vehicle. they refused. this vehicle's front end is not repairable and hazardous. the car, at this time, has 17k miles and needs to be either replaced or bought back.

I have a 2008 maxima se which i purchased last year. the car continues to jerk (hard) when the car is shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, and it also happens on the downshift from 2nd to 1st. the car was problem-free for the 1st year but for the past 3-4 months it has been a nightmare. the jerking gets so bad, it feels like you're getting punched! the problem is intermittent and rarely occurs on the highway. please let me know how i can get this defective vehicle fixed...at no cost to the owner since it's obviously a manufacture problem. i have spoke with other nissan maxima owners and have read several forums and they are experiencing the same problem! *tr

2005 nissan maxima, transmission shifts extremely hard when upshifting and down shifting. sometimes it just stays neutral while stop and when the gas is pressed it jumps forward. this is extremely scary and unsafe. i was reading about this and it seems that this is a very common problem with nissan maximas 2004 and newer. there are thousands of complaints everywhere. *tr
