2004 nissan maxima se (equipped with six speed manual transmission) component faiure: clutch master cylinder 1st occurence - april 2008 ~31,000 miles sudden total loss of clutch pedal pressure resulting in inability to put car into any gear while driving without any prior warnings, experienced total loss of clutch pedal pressure while driving in heavy traffic on a bridge, resulting in extreme safety concerns trying to get out of harms way. jammed car into gear without pressure clutch resulted in several thousand dollars of consequential damages to the transmission gears. nissan replaced the failed clutch master cylinder at a cost of approximately $400.00. transmission was fixed by nissan under warranty. 2nd occurence - march 2013 ~58,000 miles sudden partial loss (1/2) of clutch pedal pressure while driving home in stop and go traffic. no longer can drive car due to safety/reliability concerns. in both of the occurences above, full clutch pressure returned after letting car sit and coll down for approximately 1/2 hour. a search of the we revealed that many drives of nissan's of this vintage have experienced identical symptoms of clutch pedal pressure failure. dealer will not admit it is a problem. *tr

I just bought a 2004 nissan maxima last month, and it has been giving me problems, the transmission shifts hard on 2nd and 3rd gear, when i start the car it rattles, i have taken the car back to where i bought it from, they told me that they repaired it and that it was the transmission mount, but i know different, the car is still giving me problem. this is an on going thing, i have a little girl and don;t want anything to happen to her if this car stalls on the highway. i would like to know what can i to resolve this matter. thanks *tr

My 2004 nissan maxima at slower speeds seems like the transmission seems to lock up momentarily scary almost stopping this has happened on and off for a year now. *tr

Transmission jerks/slips between the 1st and 2nd gear shifts when accelerating and decelerating.

2004 nissan maxima that sways while driving straight and shifts hard or skips out of gear between 2nd and 3rd gear. only have 59,500 miles on car and front struts sway bar sub frame bushings need to be replaced along with struts and transmission. *tr

I have a nissan maxima that i had to replace all tires because of a defect that came to me in the mail after i brought my new tires and was not reimbursed. i also had problem with front rotors that they kept replacing numerous times until my warrant ran out and than i had to replace them with high performance rotors so it would not happen again.now after all of that and more i am not able to drive my only transportation because out of nowhere my transmission blew up after my extended warranty ran out because of years not mileage and no matter where i went i was told that if i would replace it with a new or use transmission that i would have the same problem and no one wants to work on it.i was told by mechanics that only the 2004 has transmission problems. *tr

My 2004 nissan maxima 3.5sl has a unreliable response from the passenger power door lock. it only lock and unlock partially, which i believe it is a critical safety issue and somewhat disappointing to see on a brand car like maxima. *tr

Nissan maxima 2004 . my wheel bearing went out in my car i understand this should not have happened to a newer model nissan. *tr

I have a 2004 nissan maxima se with 51039 miles and recently i noticed that the car jerking changing gears so i took it to the dealership to have it looked at and they advice me that i needed to have the motor mount replace, ac line is leaking need replacement and transmission flushed. i did all that and the problem still happens so i took it back to the dealership and this time they advice me that the transmission will need to be replace. they gave me a estimate of 4500 for the repair. after researching on this issue to see if the transmission replacement will fix the problem and i am a little worry that it might not. because i got the transmission replaced from the dealership and i drove it for no more then 3 miles and the problem came back. i took it back to the dealership to have to have it look at again. i think that if nissan does not look into this it will cause a major accident if the transmission fails or that sudden jerk will cause panic is the driver and cause the driven to step on the gas and hit someone in front of them. please please advice nissan for recall. *tr

Transmission jerks on 2nd and 3rd gear. common problem with 2004 nissan maxima se, and nissan refuses to do anything. *tr

My car is jerking and bucking bad. there are thousands of people out there with the same problem and nissan is not doing anything about this. i have had my transmission fluid flushed and it has not helped. others have had valve body work done and even replaced the transmission. the cars are still doing the same. the transmissions had to have been poorly built. something needs to be done. i am still paying on the car and having major car issues. nissan needs to be responsible. *tr the consumer was also informed the vehicle needed a new engine. the cd player had to repaired and the air conditioner failed. updated 01/21/10.*jb

I have a 2004 nissan maxima with transmission problems. the car has 62,000 miles on and the problem is just starting to surface. i get a jerking motion when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd or it downshifts from 2nd to 1st. it jerks especially hard when making a turn and the car slows down and picks up speed again. the thing i hate the most is he problem is temperamental. it'll be fine one day and the next it jerks around like crazy. i asked a friend who also has a 2004 nissan maxima and his does the same thing. called the nissan dealership and they seem to have no solution. is there a coincidence that all of these maximas are experiencing the same exact transmission problem. there should be a recall. *tr

Front and rear suspension, steering, brakes, body work, drivers door. had issues right after wife bought the car she went without me but upon looking at car after she came home with it did the car fax on it on thing were some electrical checks that's it no accidents. steering tight when i drove it and noticed noise from suspension when going over railroad tracks and driver door sagging. brought to dealer next day and the said a bar was rubbing on another they fix they said nothing wrong with suspension in hearing things is there exact words and replaced the door hinges which are purple and the car is red door sagging again but i was involved in accident end of 2008 got sideswiped by 2500 dodge ram truck at 45 mph on driverside having problems with that because body shop on repair damage not replaced i brought my car to another body shop because of issues im having and they said work was done incorrectly. and transmission has always when i drive more than 20 miles continuously when i come to stop and start again the tranny always slips bad between 2nd and 3rd gear and into 4th sometimes. *tr

I purchased a 2004 nissan maxima, on february 27 2007 with only 24,000 miles. three months later, the vehicle started to fail. i notice some jerking when i slowed down and then hit the gas, as well as a metal rattling noise (when i give it gas). i took it to the dealer which they stated that they didn't feel it jerk and they didn't hear the rattling noise. the noise has become worse. now a year later the engine light came on and my car wouldn't start. i took the car to the shop where they diagnose that my ignition coil went bad. (had to replace all six) cost $1000. to this point the car still remains in the shop due to ignition coil. finally, the rotor went bad which had to be replaced for the amt $380. i have done some research on this vehicle where there have been numerous complaints. i highly believe that an investigation should be place to get this on the recall list. *tr

I have a 2004 nissan maxima se 45,000 roughly that was purchased used in 2007. several months later after driving the car the transmission would jerk as if someone hit me from behind. the force was so unbearable that it was if someone hit me and i felt like i had whiplash. i had the transmission fluid replace but the problem only got worst. then jan 2008 nissan agreed to. *tr

04 maxima se w/ 55k miles. took in to nissan dealer due to problems shifting from 2nd to 1st and 1st to 2nd. they recommended transmission flush and said 2 motor mounts were broke. did not fix the problem. replaced transmission with used 04 maxima transmission w/ 21k miles from totaled car, this transmission is also bad with the same problem, shifting hard from 2nd to 1st. 3rd transmission in the mail w/ 6k miles. very dissapointed in nissan. will never buy a nissan again. *tr

I have 2004 nissan maxima with 90000 miles on it, 6 speed. about two years ago all most every gear started to jerk when i switch between gears, mostly 2nd and 3rd gear. i hear from other people that this models have this problems very frequently. the nissan should have recall on this models for transmission problems, cause all most every tranny with this model have problems and need to be replaced. *tr

Biggest problem is the transmission on the 2004 maxima. it started with jerking, and speed changes while driving. rotators, air conditioning, tires, struts, and trembling in wheel. transmission is an ongoing problem. also, the struts were replaced, trembling is still there, air conditioning low and hose replaced. but now it rumbles when turned on. tires almost cost me life on expressway due to crack in sidewalls. *ak

I have a 2004 nissan maxima se that i bought 2 years ago with 14000 miles on it. currently have 24000 miles so i don't drive a lot. in those 2 years, i've had struts, brakes, rotors,a/c problems, tons of anti-lock brake issues(was in shop 4 times) and at 19000 miles, a tire blowout and again another one at 24000 miles. i submitted my paperwork for cracked sidewalls on my goodyear rsa tires on july 1,2007 and have not heard anything yet. this car has been the car from you know where. it just has problem after problem--i get one thing fixed and something else seems to come up. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan maxima. since the vehicle was purchased, the contact has experienced failures with the radio and headlights, the rotors were replaced three times, the front coil springs were replaced twice, and the battery wiring burned. currently, the transmission pulls when the vehicle is accelerated. the vehicle will be taken to the dealer to diagnose the transmission failure. the manufacturer stated that no recalls were available for any of the failures. the current mileage was 49,000 and failure mileage was 26,000.

In 2005 i purchased a 2004 nissan maxima. at around 60k miles the transmission started acting up. everytime i reverse and put the car into drive there is a delay and the car all of a sudden jerks into drive. the car also jerks/slips into gears as you accelerate and when you apply the brakes. nothing has worked to fix this problem. there are hundreds of complaints regarding this same issue all over the internet. please help, this is no way that this is simply coincidence that every maxima is having the same issue. *tr

I have a 2004 nissan maxima 3.5 sl that i purchased brand new in sept 2004. started having problems with the transmission at 40,000 miles and had to replace the transmission under warranty at 42,000 miles. we are at almost 80,000 miles and i have been having problems with the transmission for over 20,000 miles now. jerks hard shifting between 1st and 2nd gear. jerks hard when braking and sometimes i even feel as if someone rear-ended me from the loud bang i feel. love this car, but the transmission problem is on going. taking it to the dealer next week to see what can be done. this car definitely needs a recall for its transmission. *tr

Faulty bose sound system 6 cd changer. left side speaker on & off. i called so many times to nissan corp. no proper reply. so many people have same kind of problem. nissan use faulty parts and never recalled and fix this units. *tr

2004 nissan maxima has a transmission problem. it slips, jerk, and stalls sometimes. *tr

'04 maxima, maintained regularly, original owner, purchased in summer of '03(first batch of assy. line); stereo head unit sat button, but no sat connections in back of head unit. i made an appointment one year ('06) near christmas to treat myself to have sirius satellite radio installed in my car as i was promised by the advertisements at time of purchase. the tech had already mounted the antenna to my roof and then was ready to install the tuner and connect it to the stereo head unit and could not locate the jacks on the back of the head unit to connect the satellite tuner. the service advisor explained to me that they have run into this on the cars that came off the assembly line in the first 6 months of production of this particular model. the cars have a sat button on the dash but no connections on the head unit to connect one. also explained it had since been corrected by nissan on all cars of the same model made after, that had the appropriate stereo head unit installed to accommodate satellite radio tuners. he then continued to tell me that nissan was not covering the replacement of the head unit for those customers requesting satellite radio installation. this was a big blow to me and i could not afford to replace the head unit myself. the tech had to un-mount the antenna leaving chunks of paint missing from my roof and i had since had to install an aftermarket portable satellite radio which always gives me static problems. i believe nissan should cover this replacement since the car was advertised at time of purchase to have the option of satellite radio. i only opted out at time of purchase because i felt comfortable with the fact that i could always come back and get it installed. if i would have known that issue at time of purchase, the dealer would have fixed that in order to make the sale. why not after the fact? treating current owners good is just as important as attracting new ones. repeat business is every companies bread and butter. *tr

I bought this 2004 nissan maxima at difeo nissan dealership of jersey city. since i got it, i had to take it four times to the dealer to change front struts. right now as i am sending you this email, i can hear that sound again. this is causing me a lot of inconvience, so i would be glad if someone can do something about it. i paid a lot of money for this car and i don't think i should be going through all this frustration for a car i spend so much money for. secondly the c.d. don't play when it's cold in the car. please could someone get back to me or do something about these problems for me please. thank you, seepersaud. *nm

Steering wheel shimmies at speeds from 50-80 mph and also shimmies harshly when braking at lower speeds. i had this in for repair twice so far. the first time they turned the rotors. the next time they rotated the tires. also, had gps/nav system in for repair three times to date. the dvd was reprogrammed the first time and replaced twice. i'm getting ready to file a lemon law complaint. *nm

2004 nissan maxima--front struts defective immediately after purchase of auto...dealer replaced struts...now with 3000 miles on them , they are bad again, and i'm going to dealer to see what they say. *jb

I have had problems with my 2004 nissan maxima since purchasing it brand new. within 60 days of purchasing the car, i had to take it back to the dealership due to a malfunction with the brakes. i have spent over $1,500 since keeping the brakes and rotors repaired. i am on my fourth set of tires and have had three alignments and my front end inspected. i have had to replace an engine mount. in 2006 my air conditioner went out and i spent over $500 having that repaired. now i am in need of a new transmission because there is internal damage due to the clutch slipping even though it is an automatic car. i have two friends with the same model/year car and they have experienced similar or the same problems. once of my friends just replaced his transmission in his 2004 maxima. this car has cost me at least $5,000 in repairs since i have purchased it and i have never ever received a recall notice on anything. i know that nissan is well aware of the defects in the 2004 maxima, but are not owning up to their responsibility in taking care of all of the problems that i have read about and talked about with different 2004 maxima owners. i have also had the battery replaced twice. the body style of the car is beautiful, but the car itself is a piece of crap due to poor mechanics. *tr

Gps navigation system gives a disc error message when trying to use it. *nm

The cd player in the vehicle did not work properly. when the consumer tried to play the system it took a long time to get results. when the system finally did start to work, the sound blasted out and only the end of the song played. the cd's played randomly even when they were not suppose to. the dealer replaced the system four times with the same system. *jb *jb

The car rpm drop down below 500, last year it led to service engine light and spend around a grand, but never fix, until today the dealer claim that this happened to nissan maxim 04, and last year i start having steering shaking, the dealer told if i change my rims and tires it will fix it, and in aug-2008 i have 4 new rim and good years tires, but the problem exit, i went in jan to the dealer, and they told if they tightened some thing it will fix, but no i still have until today, car shakes if you exceed speed of 55 or 50 m/h. i am still having those problem until today. *tr
