Problems with 2005 Nissan Armada SERVICE BRAKES

On average, the 2005 Nissan Armada starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 98 845 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2005 Nissan Armada

Driving in traffic causes brakes to lock as if the parking brakes were set. i have to pull over safely to the side of the road and place the vehicle in park, press on the parking foot brake to engage and disengage the brakes, turn off and on the vehicle to "reset" the brakes. it happened a few times especially on the freeway. in all multiple occasions nearly rear ending the vehicle in front of me especially when i have my family with me in the vehicle. when this occurs the brake light comes on, on the dash. happens on both the freeway and the city streets in motion and once when the brakes was press in traffic.

While i was driving i applied the brakes and didn't have any and it made a loud sound i coasted to a stop turned car off. called mechanic they came out and i had a blown fuse for my abs system they replaced it but now i am wondering if this will happen again?

Is giving a delta stroke sensor c1179 and also suddenly the brake lights turns on and can't use the brakes and i have to turn it off and on again and it will go away but it happens even if i am on the highway and it worries me. please let me know what is this code because nobody seems to know. this has happened a couple of times

Brake booster randomly failing. brake booster not working randomly. original part, never replaced

The abs hydraulic brake senors have now been replaced twice on my armada. the brakes will drop to the floor and make all kind of noises won't stop. there had been a recall for all other vins than mine. dealership said there was nothing they could do other than start changing other parts on my dime. nissan of america has told me the same thing. we have nearly been in several wrecks. i do not want my wife to end up in one because of this truck. just bought the second set of these yesterday and nearly hit someone again today. since i keep a good distance between other traffic and myself is the only reason we haven't been a wreck yet.

Started having a issue with my brakes on my nissan armada. when you pressed on the brakes, they would go to the floor and would not work and the brake light would go on. after pulling over and turning the vehicle off and back on the brake light would go off and the brakes would work again. i googled the problem and found that nissan knew about this issue and settled a class action law suit regarding it. i took the vehicle to the dealership and it was the delta stroke sensor. nissan knew there was a problem but has not recalled the vehicles. in fact this problem is not limited to the armada. my family and i could have been killed because of this issue including others that were on the road when the brakes went out. https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/45486-nissan-reaches-brake-defect-class-action-settlement/

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan armada. while driving various speeds, the rear passenger brake would erroneously engage. during the failure, the brake and abs warning indicators would illuminate. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 175,000.

Takata recall brakes not working while driving and pulses and fuel gage not working while driving and parked.

Purchased vehicle used in may 2015, my trusted mechanic checked it out september 2015 and reported back it was in good condition with no issues. july 2016 experienced break failure at 15 miles an hour. again my mechanic troubleshooted the issues and said the power break booster needed to be replaced. he then referred me to nissan for possible replacement since it is a safety issue. i spoke with corporate nissan who advised me to take it to our local nissan dealership to prove the issue existed, for any potential compensation. after taking the vehicle to nissan they concluded reprogramming the delta stroke sensor would resolve the problem; which i had to pay $300 to have this done. on october 2016 inoperable break failure occurred again at 65 miles an hour while on the interstate, as i was approaching an exit ramp. this same issue occurred twice in one day, just a week later. once as i left work going 40 miles an hour, my dashboard lit up with vdc and skid lights, in addition to my break failure light. the second time occurred going down a city street where i had to do a rolling stop through an intersection, dodging oncoming traffic, eventually hitting a curb to stop. after taking my vehicle back to nissan for them to test drive (recreate) the problem, i was told that i could not drive my vehicle off the lot due to safety hazards. i have spent hours on the phone with corporate to resolve this safety issue; but yet nissan refuses to fix the problem, or refund me my money for the failed reprogramming. this vehicle is geared towards families with children; and both my children were present in the vehicle during all failures. after searching the national highway traffic safety administration website, i have found hundreds of documented cases revolving around the same safety hazard. nissan refuses to recall this part or notify owners of the existing issue.

While attempting to stop, without warning the brake light comes on and the brake pedal basically goes to the floor and barely works to stop the truck. the brakes grind as it is pushed. if you turn the vehicle off it seems to reset itself. we almost hit someone today trying to stop at a red light. the vehicle was moving at roughly 15-20 mph when the issue started (today). we were on a city street, braking to stop. it seems to be a consistent problem with these vehicles and i am boggled at the fact that no one is requiring nissan to take any responsibility. eventually someone is going to get very hurt. having little to no control over your braking is very scary, especially with my little one in the truck with me . this is a large vehicle and would do a lot of damage if it were to hit someone the next time this happens. this seems to happen once every 2-4 weeks or so. it appears to be random.

I have had the same issue that many people are explaining here. i'll be driving down the road and out of no where the dash brake light will turn on. when i try to break, the brake pedal will push down to the floor and it will sound like is grinding and almost sound like a spring is loose inthere. but when i turn the car off and then turn it on, it goes away. i had this problem for a few months now and this is an accident waiting to happen, i just hope it doesn't do it on the freeway..

Takata recall i experience surprise excelleration three times, once resulting in a minor vehicle accident with minor body damage. all three occurred on a city street while in starting motion going straight ahead.

Reading the complaints and found others the same as mine. have taken the nissan to the dealer at least three, maybe four times, complaining of the emergency brake engaging while driving when the emergency brake was off. this has happened when entering a freeway (highway) and driving on a city street. when taken to the dealer they could not find anything wrong. while i appreciate that others have the same problem and it is not a fluke, it is disconcerting and dangerous. the last time this happened was 7/23/16!

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan armada. while driving less than 15 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. the vehicle had a delay when stopping. when the vehicle was shut off and restarted, the braking performance would return to normal. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the delta stroke sensor failed and would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 171,000.

I have had the same issue that many people are explaining. i will be driving down the road and out of no where the dash brake light will turn on. when i proceed to stop the car the brake will push down to the floor and it will grind and almost sound like a spring. i pull over, turn the car off and then it goes away. it has happened multiple times and there is no warning as to when it will happen.

While i am driving my emergency brake light turns on and my brakes locked and it's really hard for me to break the brake pedal also shakes almost leading into an accident.

The air bag light was flashing so i took my 2005 armada to the dealership to find out the reason. the dealer is charging me about $500.00 to replace the harness. they said the air bag may not deploy if i am involved in an accident. also, i've had two instances where my brakes got jammed and made a loud noise when i stopped at a stop sign.

I have a 2005 nissan armada that have a serious braking issues that needs to bed looked into it doesn't happen all the time but when it does the brake pedal goes all the way down to the floor and make a grinding noise i spoke with nissan consumer affairs they want me to take it to nissan and have a diagnostic done, which will call me 99.00 that is none reimbursable apparently there was a lawsuit for this issue in california that was settle by nissan in my research i found other nissan owner who are having issues with there vehicles from the year 2004 - present

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan armada. while driving various speeds, the brake warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. while depressing the brake pedal, an abnormal noise was detected. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, turned off the engine, waited a few minutes, restarted the vehicle, and the brake warning indicator was no longer illuminated. the contact resumed driving. the vehicle was taken to drexel nissan (5018 township line rd, philadelphia, pa 19026, phone number: (610) 449-2800) where it was diagnosed that the brakes failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

I was driving my vehicle that i had just purchased off the parking lot of the dealer when i noticed that the brake light was on the dashboard i proceeded to stop and when i pressed on the brake pedal the vehicle delayed to come to a full stop. i also heard a weird noise sounded like a grinding noise and springs coming from the brake pedal.

I have had numerous issues starting in 13' with the ecm being replaced after 05' armada stalled on highway traveling 70 miles/hour in heavy traffic. recently in early 15' i ran out of gas when fuel gauge displayed a quarter tank of gas at a red light. also in early 15' my a/c will only work when on high. both of these issues are known & are listed as recalls that i will be making a service appointment with my local nissan dealer to research, correct & fix. there are numerous reports of similar & exact known issues online. most recently in november 15' i was picking my children up from school in the rain. i was traveling home when i had to apply my breaks, but they did not perform as they should. the breaks made a spring sound, the brake peddle had little to no resistance when i applied my foot to stop & the break light came on. i had to veer off the road & ran into a fence post very lightly with minimal damage to my front chrome bumper. i turned car off & immediately checked on my two children in the back seat. we were all ok, thank god. i started armada to find that the break light was no longer on. i hesitated to drive due to what had just happened. i was only 3 miles from home so i slowly attempted to continue home. the armada drove perfect & the breaks functioned as they should with no issues. i googled incident to find numerous complaints & reports with similar to identical complaints/know issue reported & filed. i was blessed that my family was ok & i was able to avoid a serious potentially life threatening accident with loss of breaks one time for no reason. this was the 1st time this has happened and has not happened since. i feel this should be an immediate recall due to the severity of outcome it could cause with temporary break failure. no need for lifes to be lost or lawsuits to make it right and correct/fix issue at no cost.

The driver side airbag is not working due to a faulty harness assembly. the fuel gauge does not measure fuel accurately. the abs brake light comes on and the brakes stop working while you are driving. nissan refuses to fix the issues without us paying over 3 grand even though these items were recalled on other nissans but there is no recall on this particular nissan. this nissan needs to be added to the recalls. we bought the car 5 months ago from go automotive and they also refused to fix the issues.

Brakes stutter and brake light come on with out warning car does not stop, if you turn vehicle off the problems goes away, local streets usual at speeds of 35 to 45 trying to stop at traffic light..very scary

Brakes failed, master cylinder brake pressure reduced when brakes where applied almost hitting stopped truck in front. simular to report receipt date: sep 18, 2013 nhtsa campaign number: 13v451000 component(s): service brakes, hydraulic potential number of units affected: 3,247 my suv also has the same issue.

Break system failure has happened to me more than once. for some reason it sounds like they're are rocks in between my brakes and the rotors. i have to reset the system by shutting the car off and turning it back on. i almost had an accident on the freeway because of it and no indication other than the noise that it was happening. also, when a passenger is in the seat the airbag light does not turn off. i and hasn't for over 5 years. the driver side and/or passenger side seat belts also do not get recognized as being used since the flash indicator on the dash keeps flashing. when i took t in to the dealer they said there are no recalls but it's a safety issue. the vehicle has less than 110000 miles on it and had less than 80000 when these issues started. i just want my vehicle to be safe and everyone else who has the same one. brake system, dealer can't diagnose unless i drive in there with the problem which isn't safe and happens occasionally. i may have video of the noise from the brake system which i will look for.

Suv ran out of gas at highway speed in center lane during heavy traffic on wife and kids, gauge read 1/4 of tank. stepped on brake didn't work had a load noise, vdc light, brake light on dash. understand now that abs system failed and fuel sending unit failed. nissan has told me that they have a recall on the fuel sending unit on the same year make and model but not mine? they have tried really hard to kill my family with this faulty expensive equipment.

While i was driving brakes donot work i almost crash , to traumatic.

I was going down 4 lane hwy and started to slow down approaching intersection. the brakes went all the way to the floor and started shaking violently. it felt like the vehicle was going to shake off the axel. i just knew i was going to hit the car next to me. i had to drive home 15 mph because every time i touched the brakes the car would violently shake to the point of pulling me off of the road. when i shut the car off and restarted it, it must have fixed the problem temporarily. it has happened 2 more times. i recently started looking online for any info on the matter and found that it is happening pretty regular to people with the same model and make as mine and also in a pretty close time frame. it doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is a defect. a very dangerous defect that should be fixed by nissan before someone gets killed.

The brakes only barely stopped the vehicle after depressing to pedal all the way to the floor. now some warning lights come on vdc, slip, brake and won't go off. the brakes don't seem to be working properly and the pedal when depressed slowly goes to the floor. i have new brakes, rotors, etc (10,000 miles and the brake fluid is at the proper level. i have read about this same problem from many many people no the web. this is not am isolated problem and should be handled by nissan and put into a recall. people on the web were referencing a class action law suit. please look into it. *tr

I was driving in light traffic, pushed on the brake pedal, the brake light (not abs) illuminated on the instrument panel, i heard a grinding sound and almost pushed the pedal to the floor. i pulled over, turned the truck off, and restarted it. the brake light remained illuminated, but i was able to brake. after turning it off and letting it sit for about 30 minutes, i turned it on again. the brake light was no longer on and the brakes engaged. i took it to a brake shop on 3/27/15 and was told that my pads are fine. they also checked the fluid and the level was ok. i contacted a local nissan dealer and was told that there aren't any recalls. they have not received any reports from consumers about this type of issue occurring, but could not provide an explanation as to why this happened and could be reset by turning the vehicle off. this also happened previously, but i don't recall exactly when. *tr

As i pressed on brakes to slow the truck down at intersection two days ago, the brake light came on and then a loud metal grinding noise came from the front! the truck now had difficulty stopping; i had to floor it in order for vehicle to come to a complete stop. i nearly rear ended the van that was in front of me! i was in the back roads so there were several stop signs/ intersections on my way home. as i continued driving and braking to slow down/ stop, the grinding noise was very loud and the truck rarely had any brake power! i was terrified and finally was able to slow down enough to pull over on to the side to breathe and calm my nerves down. i put the truck in park and checked to make sure i released the brake pedal, etc. i then continued home where i turned truck off and asked neighbor mechanic to check it for me. he turned truck back on and we drove it to test brakes. everything was now working fine! it did not sit right with me. i researched online last night and just like the fuel gauge issue that happened a week prior, there are thousands of people affected by this brake failure! when a rep from nissan consumer svcs called earlier today to follow up regarding my truck's fuel gauge issue, i reported the brake issue. she just said "yes i'm sorry but you will have to pay for dealership to verify issue first in order for nissan to take some kind of action." unbelievable. especially when there are reported incidents out there of this defect. unfortunately, consumers also report that this brake issue happens intermittently so it's hard to prove/ diagnose. with a fuel gauge issue and now, brake issue, i'm more afraid to drive my truck especially with my children in it! i pray nissan will step up and do the right thing in taking responsibility of replacing/ repairing these defects. please don't wait till there are fatalities before doing something about it. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan armada and have had it for almost a year. for the past several months my brakes have been acting up. when i am driving my brake light starts flashing and i go to stop and the i can't stop. i have to stop my vehicle where ever i am driving whether it is a highway or main road and stop the car as soon as possible. i have to put it in park, shut the car off and then push the vdc light button after a few seconds and then restart my car. this happens several times a week to me and even up to 4 or 5 times a day this has happened. this is not safe and is an accident waiting to happen when you can't stop your car. this really should be a recall to the vehicle because this is not normal and definitely is a safety issue.

I was driving down the street close to my home (fortunately) and the brake light came on. i hit the brakes to test them to find that the brakes lost most power and the vehicle vibrated horribly. i finally managed to get the vehicle stopped. i then shut it off and then started it back up, which cleared the issue temporarily. a few days later i took it into the dealer who told me the vdc needed to be reprogrammed and that this was a know issue by nissan for this vehicle. the dealer charged me to fix this known issue, yet less than 1,000 miles later the same thing happened again. back to the dealer only to be told that now the brake booster needs replacement at a cost of another $1,000 as part of the same known issue. i called nissan, but they flatly refuse to warranty what they know is a defective system. this vehicle has only 56,000 miles on the odometer.

The incident happened on november 15, 2014 while accelerating from a stop light going north before the intersection (overpass) of carmenita street, norwalk, ca and i-5 freeway at approximately 10 mph. the brake light came on and the brakes lost power along with giving a spring sound. i brought the vehicle to my local mechanic . no problem was found and cannot duplicate the problem as stated and because of this mechanic was not able to resolve the issue/problem. once the vehicle is turned off and restarted braking power returns to normal and the brake light goes off. this is the first incident that it happened but i was scared and lost confidence in the driving the vehicle especially on freeways with my family as passengers and putting them, myself as well as other people in danger. it seems that i am not alone who experienced this problem on this vehicle after doing a research over the internet. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan armada for the past several months my brakes have been acting up. when i am driving my brake light comes on and i go to stop and the i can't stopmakeing a horrible noise. i have to stop my vehicle where ever i am driving and stop the car as soon as possible. i have to put it in park, shut the car off and then after a few seconds and then restart my car. this has happened several time since november and recently has happened twice in the same week . this is not safe and is an accident waiting to happen when you can't stop your car. i did take it to the dealership but since they could not find anyhting they sent me away saying that my rotors have dust on them and i can pay est $100 to pay to have them cleaned. then recently within the last week ; my husband took the car up there when he was driving it and it did the same thing but they would not see him due to how busy they were alreay in the service department. my family is very important to me and putting them in this car is the scarest thing i have to do on the daily what happens when the brakes dont work ?? this really should be a recall to the vehicle because this is not normal and definitely is a safety issue. i hope nissan can see that our lives are worth more than whatever the amount they would pay to have all of these cars fixed please nissan please. next stop bbb!!!!!!!

Brake, vdc and slip lights came on. use brake pedal, metallic spring noise came from firewall infront of driver. minimal braking power. *tr

I was on my way home from work and a car cut me off ,i stepped on my brakes and the brakes went down to the floor and i heard and felt a grinding noise. i immediately swerved into the dirt and thank god there was no vehicles parked in the area i had turned into. i noticed my brake light was on . i then slowly made my way home and parked in the driveway. i called the dealership and made an appointment to have my truck checked. on 10/6/14 ,i drove my truck very slow and carefully to the dealership. on 10/7/14 ,i was told a code #c1179 delta sensor was bad and the brake booster assembly needed to be replaced. i went on line to research this problem and discovered numerous complaints regarding this matter . it is a major factory defect with armadas ,titan and qx56 models from 04 to present and nissan refuses to acknowledge it. *tr

As i was on my way back from the store, i was slowing down to come to an intersection to turn when i felt this grinding feeling in the brake pedal. it made an awful noise and i had no brakes per se. the emergency brake light was on, however, i had not put it on. i had to stop as best i could and turn the car off. only after i turned the car off, did the emergency brake light go off and i could continue. i didn't do it again on the way home, but it has happened several times since then. once, i had my granddaughter with me and it really scared me because we were on a major highway when someone pulled out in front of me. luckily i was a safe distance behind and it was rush hour or i might have been actually going down the highway. as it was, i was sitting in traffic. as of now, my "service engine soon light is on" and i can't get it inspected. *tr

While driving or even just putting it in reverse, when i try to brake it feels like a spongy/stringy pedal that goes to the ground and makes a loud grind noise. you have to turn off the vehicle and it is fine, i have took it in the shop and nothing wrong, i am like really... i can't be turning the vehicle off every time it does this, that is a safety issue or a definite recall..now this happens several times and with family in the vehicle is a danger i think. hope there is a recall for this issue. also seat belts do not retract back after the recall that was done. *tr

I experienced a sudden loss of braking power as i was approaching an intersection at about 30 mph and applying my brakes. the brake pedal became soft and unresponsive and the pedal began to shake and the abs system or brake booster could be heard making a metallic grinding noise. i lost about 80-90% braking ability and was barely able to stop the car before it entered into a busy intersection. this occurred for 1 1/2 miles until i got home. vehicle was taken to the dealership the next day, however, the problem could not be replicated. they suggested a $900 brake booster replacement with no assurance that it would solve the problem. i looked through the original service records of the car and found that the previous owner had taken the vehicle while it was still under warranty for the exact same issue on 3/5/2008 and a vdc software update was performed. that did not solve the problem. there appears to be a design defect in the braking system that is causing this to happen. *tr

While driving, the brake light came on and when pressing the pedal it did not brake as usual and it took much longer to stop and the pedal would vibrate and the car made a grinding noise. we pulled over and turned the engine off and on and then it worked. we have had this problem happen several times before but it is happening more often, it happened three times in the past week, to the point that we are afraid to drive it since this might cause an accident. *tr

On 8/12/14 i was driving at approximately 9:15 pm and i was making a left turn onto clarkson avenue from nostrand avenue and all of a sudden my brake light came on and a i heard a spring popping noise when i had put my foot on the brakes. i was scared and drove home very slowly stopping at several lights and the spring popping and now grinding noise continued every time i put my foot on the brakes. i had to slowly press the brakes because it seems as if it lost some power. the next morning on 8/13/14 i called aaa to tow me to nissan. nissan told me my rotors, brake pads and brake fluid needed to be replaced and that will solve the problem. i had the repair they suggested and drove home and everything was fine. now today on 8/14/14 the same problem occurred with the brakes again and its 8 p,m, i will have to wait until tomorrow to contact nissan to see if they can rectify the problem. *tr

While driving the brake lights came on and the brakes made a loud clunking noise. i had to slow down and stop and turn off the car. after conducting an inspection of the brakes, i restarted the car. the brakes were released and the brake light went off. this has happened several times since then, not only with me but also with my wife who was driving with my daughter in the vehicle too. after looking at the online forum (club armada) i determined that the vdc system needed reprogramming (according to all of the many other posts about the same incident). i'm here at the dealership now and it should cost about $100 to fix. we'll see..... *tr

I was on the highway and the brake light came on. when i was exiting the ramp i heard a loud noise and the brakes were grinding. i had to swerve out of the lane to the shoulder because i had lil to no brake power. this is not the 1st time this incident has happened to me. i don't know what the issue is but nissan needs to resolve it fast because the next person may not be so lucky. my truck is currently at the dealership now do to the brake issue and of course they are unable to detect the problem. i am replacing the brakes and rotors and hopefully that will help elevate the problem. someone needs to do something and fast before someone is fatally affected by this issue. i will never buy a nissan again. if this issue does not stop i will be trading my vehicle in and not for another nissan. *js

Brakes suddenly quit working properly, vibration, grinding, etc. had to pump brakes to stop. i turned ignition off, set p-brake, then turned vehicle back on, the problem goes away. this has happened several times in the past, i'd say 5 or 6 times in the past 2 years. my brakes and rotors were last replaced about 6 months ago. *js

We bought this car in 2010 and had been very happy with it. 2-3 times over the first 3 years of ownership this happened, but always at very slow speed right after leaving our driveway. problem was corrected by turning the car off and back on. this accident was the first time it occurred some distance from home. a car stopped short, causing the car behind to brake very hard. my wife (with our 18 month old son in the car) attempted to brake and couldn't, hitting both cars. since the accident, the issue has occurred with increasing frequency (3x in the last month alone) - our issue is identical to what i've now found on numerous sites - abs light comes on, very little braking power, grinding noise, vibration in the pedal. stop the car, turn it off, turn it back on, problem gone. *tr

Brake judder from front brakes.[xxx]. i have had numerous episodes like this "bad abs, i think, on armada". everything goes well and am traveling at low speed or pulling out of the parking and step on the brakes and hear a terrible grinding sound coming from the brakes in addition to a spring like sound and a significant reduction in braking power. this continues until i pull off the road and shut off the engine and then start it back up and the brakes work fine. this has happen 8-10 times since may 2014. it did happen couple of time when i was traveling with 20-30 mph and i come to stop, causing groaning, banging noises and feel spongy.this started happening in the same week or so after i had brake work done by dealer. i had taken my car to dealer to replace rotor and pads. this didn't happen before that time. i took the car back to dealer in july and complained about this issue. they reset the module and suggested to replace the booster if it happens again. i ran the scanner to see error code c1179, delta stroke sensor. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

The brake, slip and vdc off light come on at once. lose brake pedal pressure. pedal goes almost to floor with noise like the abs is on, grinding sound shuddering happens. turn off and turn on vehicle, issue goes away for anywhere from a day to a few week then happens again. it has happened on mostly dry smooth pavement. it could happen few times a day or few times a week and sometimes not for weeks. i am very afraid to drive because luckily it had happened every time i was 20 mph or below.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan armada. the contact stated that the brakes independently and inadvertently engaged. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing where it was advised that the brake booster would have to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 110,000.
