Problems with 2014 Nissan Altima ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On average, the 2014 Nissan Altima starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRICAL SYSTEM and its various aspects after 40 502 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2014 Nissan Altima

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. on several occasions, while driving various speeds, the power door locks operated independently by unlocking and locking. the contact stated that the failure occurred while turning the steering wheel or driving over a bump in the road. there were no warning indicators prior to the failure. after the failure, the door opening warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The ecm mahesh the engine light go off every month!!

Headlamp assembly of the vehicle is extremely dim. high beam works exceptionally but low beam seems to be burned out. light bulbs have been replaced several times but there is no change is visibility. vehicle has been taken to autonation nissan where they concluded nothing was wrong with the headlamps. headlamps have even been adjusted in the direction that project, but still no change in visibility. headlamp visibility became drastically decreased while vehicle was in motion on the highway

Takara recall - the low-beam headlights in my altima are dangerously dim, and i was told it had nothing to do with my bulbs. i was told by nissan it's a wiring issue but online it states "the material inside the projector bowl wear down, burn off, or scuff up, the projector lens doesn't receive as much light to, well project".

While driving car lights would dim when turning car shut off while driving. no warning ,no codes , no safety lights to use. couldn't move car because steering locked plus no power. would not start towed car to dealer. they can't find the issues. car is unsafe to drive shutting off and no emergency lights to warn other drivers. because all power goes. i tried to pull over but lights continued to dim. if it had been daylight wouldn't have noticed. i'm

I purchsed this car feb 2nd 2019 couple days later engine light comes on so car has 30day warranty so i call and they had me go there mechanic put in the shop. a code for 02 sensors came up but he say he just need replace cadillac converter he didnt need replace sensors so 5 days later i pick up car and 3 days after light comes back on i call complain on way coming from another city hour away and noticing car jerking and loosing power on hwy on way mechanic car breaks down im stranded with baby for hour they tow they shop say it was fuel.pumps i get car thinking things good i make a 300 paymemt since i still owed 1500 on down payment days later light comeson again smoke comes out back car when i start. it. in morning car jerks back real hard when i get on hwy or hesitate pick up speed engine making rattling noise and oil pressure sensor on i take it for 2nd opnion before taking back there mechanic and the thing they suppose fix still shows need be fix mass air flow sensor and then oil pressure sensor and spark plus so i tell mechanic did yall even fix mass flpw sensor cause same code pop up he says some times new parts can act faulty but dont worry we fix it. got warranty but he gotta ask permission about spark plugs and oil pressure sensor so he ask me when i can come in i say friday the night before my appt car breaks down 40 min. on hwy car looses power lights dont work head lighs dont work car key wont open doors or trunk and im getting i key system error i go replace battery that didnt help so saturday they tow car and send me a repo letter since im behind payment cause im not gonna keep paying on car thats breaking down leaving me stranded at this point i gave them 3 tries so i just want my 1500 plus 300 back even tho warranty expired i did adress this 3 times before it expired

I was driving the freeway and lost power engine and shut offs i'm not sure how i didn't have the accident yet. take it to mechanic find out it was a throttle body position sensor and the throttle body camshaft position sensor crankshaft position sensor replaced all that still giving the same problem how to replace it again. so the speed limit was 70 i was going 65 so lost lost in the entire engine at speed of 65 is really difficult to maneuver

The dealership informed me of the recalls. i was told to contact them as soon as possible. to set up an appointment to get it checked

The low beam lights on my 2014 nissan altima are so low that you cannot see at night. i have change the bulbs 2 times and i'm still getting the same results. i took it to my local shop and they suggested me changing out both head lights. why haven't this issue been recall by nissan?

Headlight are very dim at night . when you are driving at night you cannot see anything with the low beam light you will have to turn on the high beam light . i contacted nissan they inform me that this issue would be investigated however they still haven't contacted me back . i changed the headlight multiple time , also i had the headlight restoration . however that sill haven't resolved the issue . i am at the conclusion that a accident will take place due to the headlight been very thin you cannot see what is in front of you once you are driving this is very dangerous in will take someone life.

The bulbs are fading and have been replaced. my research shows that i am not the only owner finding this problem.

The double safety feature of pressing the break to start the car becomes void when the caliper has an issue even without the brake light engaging to show an issue. the car is tricked into thinking that the break is being pressed and will allow you to start it with just pressing the start button. my 8yr old was in the car playing while i was cleaning it and was also able to put the car in gear due to the mechanical system reading that the break was engaged. the car also continues to run after the key is removed and you can drive off with no key in the car. i

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. while driving 35 mph, the steering wheel seized. as a result, the contact had difficulty keeping the vehicle in the correct lane. the vehicle was taken to dave smith nissan (6901 e sprague ave, spokane, wa 99212, (509) 924-6242) where it was diagnosed that there was an electrical failure in the steering wheel. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 23,000.

After taking in my altima 2014 sv for a recall on the airbag sensors, the issue did not go away. the issue is that there is that about half the times a passenger sits next to the driver seat, the airbag system does not detect them. i am having to restart the car for security purposes in case something ends up happening. i am also having an issue with my ac system. i replaced the compressor a year ago and it seems to be failing again. as a senior software engineer i can safely say that there is definitely an issue with their software. i hope they can fix this soon. thanks, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).?*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times without warning. the vehicle was taken to two different mechanics who were unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 84,526.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the dealer diagnosed that the sensor for the camshaft failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

I ran low on windshield washer fluid and a light can on notifying me. the next day i noticed that the lane detection system and the car in your blind spot indicator was no working. causing a safety concern. come to find out. when you run low on wiper fluid, it deactivates these safety features. i think this is crazy and dangerous. put in wiper fluid and it corrected the problem. wow!!!

Since purchasing this car in early 2015 i have experienced the following: occasionally the car alarm will sound / lights will flash either by manually pressing the button on the drivers door, passengers door or the trunk lid (with key fob in pocket or in hand) this issue also occurs using either one of my factory key fobs unlock buttons (both with new batteries installed by the dealer). by pressing the fobs unlock button again or pressing the door button again a second time, the alarm turns off and the door unlocks. i have had this in to the dealer four times in the last year but they have not been able to reproduce the problem. i am told each time that nissan will not authorize service unless they see it happen or some code is stored. why won't nissan upper level technicians become involved with these kinds of problems?

First this car only has 11,000 miles on. we got the battery change on it last year. but some reason the battery keeps on dying on us. saturday may 7th the car was working fine and we stop to go food shopping come back out and the car would not start. we had this check out last year and they said nothing was wrong with the car. but there is something going with this car to act up this way.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that the fuel economy display on the instrument panel did not display the correct amount of fuel in the vehicle. in addition, the vehicle stalled and the speedometer gauge was incorrect. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

I keep getting a key id incorrect or key id undetectable when i try to start the car. i have replaced the battery in the key fob and the same issues arise. i have to open and close the car door at least 10 times before i can get the car to start. this could be a safety hazard as i might get stranded somewhere if i shut the car off and it doesn't start. i am getting really tired of this issue and hopefully a recall or some type of fix will come from nissan. this issues always happens when the vehicle is in park and you try to start the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that when the front passenger seat was occupied, the air bag off warning light illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v138000 (air bags, electrical system). the failure mileage was 31,500.

I have a leased 2014 nissan altima that on 2 occasions while driving failed to shift into the next gear. the last time was 08/21/15, the malfunction indicator light came on. i had my kids in the car i could not maintain safe driving speed and had to put on my hazard lights, pull over and restart the car twice. the light stayed on but the car resumed normal function. the next day i took it early to bay ridge nissan dealer they looked at it and said there was a pass code that showed up but they didn't know what the code meant other than there was an alert from the car. the couldn't replicate the problem or say why the issue had happened or give any guarantees that it would not occur again which is a potential dangerous driving condition but proceeded to charge me $260 for diagnostics on a new car i leased that has warranty.

The navigation / radio system reboots itself unexpectedly while the device is in use and while driving.

Since the first week we owned the car, occasionally the screen(back up cam, radio...) doesn't start, or fails within first mile of driving- maybe 10 times since purchase date. on july 29, 2015- morning- car upon start, no screen and no dashboard. restarted twice and then fine. at 9:30 p.m. same day-- close to home, side mirror failure warning showed on dash- and a subsequent failure of systems- including but not limited to- gps, screen, turn signals, headlights, hazard lights, all dash information. i pulled into parking garage and attempted to open window to use key fob for gate and had no operating windows, including sunroof or locks. put car in park and could not get it into another gear.trapped in car for 15 min. with car running- passenger door then unlocked. aaa called. car ran for 3 hrs. aaa disabled the electrical operating the fuel pump. car towed to cochran in pittsburgh. since a restart resets the computer, no code on diagnostic would be found. cochran considers the situation resolved. nissan has a case # and several recorded (by nissan) conversations have occurred with regional rep. and that rep. will not send written findings of investigation (check the i key)as it is internal information and i will pay all diagnostic fees associated. rep has no technical knowledge and has no explanation of what an i key is or how or for what it should be checked. there is a directive from nissan regarding this problem as told to me by wright nissan, but again nothing will be done without the code from diagnostic computer. this can't happen again- but it will and it could be catastrophic-the intermittent, random, systematic failure will happen- the extent and order of events unknown - leaving us an uncertain outcome and no plan for response in the given situation. we suspect the problem is the bcm as alerted by the internet research, the aaa driver and the cochran tech.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. while parked, the vehicle failed to recognize the key and the incorrect key warning message illuminated on the instrument panel. after several attempts, the vehicle was able to be restarted. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the shift lock needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 18,000. updated 11/09/15*lj the consumer stated the dealer changed the battery on the fob. the vehicle seems to be repaired. updated 1/20/2016 *js *cn

Takata recall- i noticed that sometimes the 'airbag' light on the passenger side will be on and no one or anything would be on the passenger side.

I bought the car last year and it has only been about 13 months. about three months ago, i noticed that there was a kind of jerk when i would start off a stop light and accelerate. first thinking it was not a great deal, i kept going however i noticed it that it was becoming more constant. one day about to reverse out of a parking lot, i put the car in reverse, and the car turned off. there was no response at all from the transmission. i then turned the ignition off and restarted it and it started working fine. being late for work, i then continued on and until yesterday everything was okay. yesterday, i got into my car, started it, switched to drive, and the engine shut off and there was no response from the transmission. i turned the ignition off, turned it on again, moved the shifter into reverse and the engine shut off again. i have since had it towed and it is being checked at the dealership. this being a one year old car, i do not expect it to give these issues.

My car is stalling on the highway and sometimes cuts off at a low speed. i took it to the nissan dealership and was told they do not see any issues due to the engine light not coming on. i think this is a safety hazzard being that the car could turn off at anytime on the highway. i'm really concern when my family (wife & kids are in the car. please help!

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving and attempting to accelerate, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle failed to accelerate. the contact mentioned that the vehicle failed to accelerate over 25 mph, there was an loud abnormal noise and the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 34,000.

I have to much throbble whit my carr hard to start i have more one monthy the not rrunig

The pass. side air bag off light do not all ways turn off when someone is setting in pass. seat. nissan last year had a recall for this problem, they reloaded the ocs software for this problem. i have had 3 problem so far sense the recall. most of the time there is no one but me in the car so i do not have a idea of how often it could had fail if someone was in the pass. seat with every trip. i have only taken the car once to the dealer for this problem because the first time i did not think anything about it. the second time i took it to the dealer and after checking it out, they told me that there was noting they could or would do because they had no failure and that nissan will not let them replace any parts unless there is a failure as nissan will not pay for the item. open ref.# 19611123 with nissan and was told about the same thin, except nissan said that it was the dealer call but they would not pay for no failure part replacement. i believe is a safety problem and someone with power should look into it, do to the fact there have already been a recall for this problem. no one i talk to at the dealer or on the phone to nissan would or could do anything about it. the internet has many write up about this problem that no one will do anything about. i guess they are waiting for someone to be badly injured or killed to take the problem serious.

I have number of problems with my vehicle - 2014 altima sl. several times after stop and go traffic the transmission stops switching gears (speeds). it gets stuck on a first gear equivalent in cvt transmission. the fix is to restart the vehicle, obviously this could be dangerous on the road where there are no places to stop. another major problem is a head unit (navigation, radio, etc). it restarts by itself now and than, sometimes right in a middle of the highway when i'm trying to figure out what exit to take and i need the gps guidance. its absolutely unreliable. i'm not complaining about the quality of the software here that is terrible, by the way, but in any situation it should not restart by itself! another problem, as mentioned by others, is mileage. i get much less miles as advertised! this is my first and last nissan! *tr

Entered vehicle fob did not recognize system and locked me in, couldn't get out, panicked for a few seconds, had to use the remoteless key to get out. took dealership several days before they towed my car. the battery was replaced. updated 12/10/14

While driving with the car ignition on, coasting with foot lightly on brake, the ignition button was inadvertently depressed. the ignition system shut off with loss of all power. it took effort to steer the car to the shoulder. the vehicle is an enterprise rental.....updated 09-03-14 *bf

The front passenger air bag lite stays on while the passenger is seated.indicating the air bag is in-operative. the dealer performed updates, both software and hardware. the problem was never fixed ! after demanding a factory engineer to inspect the car, the result was: some of these cars , this failure will happen, and there is nothing that can be done" his recommendation was , drive to the side of the road, turn off the car and re-start the car and the "computer" will be reset ! now in excess of 4500 miles, it still fails ! *tr

On wednesday, july 15th 2014 i was leaving my community and there was a section on the way where water accumulates after it rains. during my drive out the community i needed to go through the puddle of water to continue my exit. as i passed through the puddle, the water rushed inside the car, on the driver's side under the steering wheel. it appears that the water rushed into the cabin through the steering column. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated the front passenger air bag sensor failed to detect when the seat was occupied. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v138000 (air bags , electrical system). however, the failure persisted. both the dealer and the manufacturer have been made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 4,000. updated 10/22/14*cn updated 4/7/2015 *js

When i turn the ignition nothing happens. all i hear is a click where the car is trying to ignite. after trying several times it finally cranks up and start. i've had the battery checked and have taken it to nissan for a diagnostic test and both came back negative. not sure what the problem but it is happening more frequent now since the first time it happened in november 2013 and again in april 2014. if the issue isn't showing up after paying $85 for a diagnostic test at nissan, i wonder if others are experiencing this issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 nissan altima. the contact stated that when attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to recognize the key and displayed key invalid. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 5,000.

I stopped the car and believed i put it in park. i got out of the car--it did not move. i went to the rear passenger door and got my two year old out of her car seat. i placed her beside the car and shut the rear door. i walked around behind the car to the driver's door. i turned the car off like i always do. the car shut off--and suddenly without warning--began rapidly moving down my driveway. my baby was at the rear of the car and she usually follows me. i ran and had to jump in the moving car. the front left driver wheel nearly ran me over. i tried to gain control of this vehicle by desperately tried to stop it. i was rolling the speed of a skateboard released from the top of the driveway. the steering wheel had locked. i had to push hard on the brake. i stopped it and there were skidmarks on the asphalt. i stopped the car before it slammed into my neighbor's car. had i not stopped it and risked personal injury there would have been a crash. i was scared to death to move and look. i thought my baby was dead. i thought the car had crushed her. my neighbor told me my daughter had been missed by inches. when i looked at the gearshift, it was in d. i have no idea how it shut off in drive. it almost killed my daughter, damaged personal property, and i am injured. i called nissan consumer affairs: they stated that this happens "in all automatic cars." which that is false. i called back to tell them i had friends and family with varying 2014 push button cars try and turn their cars off in d. none of them would turn off unless in park. what is someone was driving and accidentally hit the button on the freeway? loss of steering, brakes, control??? this is a fatal engineering problem. i know gm had a huge recall for similar. nissan consumer affairs told me " there would be no recall" and that i should "be more careful." *tr

I have had many issues while driving on a street, highway, and at a stop. all the issues seems to point to either software or electrical issues. i have complained to the dealership on many occasions. i bought my car with only approx. 7-10 miles on it in jan. 2014. since the beginning, i have had my entire dashboard shut off w/o warning. navigation, radio, camera, etc. completely shuts off, air bags lights turning off and on, the air conditioner intermittingly working whenever it chooses, the cigarette lighters (both) that i use to charge my phone no longer works, and acceleration not accelerating properly (transmission issue?). i have not ever had so many car problems, especially with a new car. when i ask the dealership about recalls, they are only concerned with repair costs they want to collect, in which i understand. however, what i do not understand is looking up the issue online and seeing hundreds of the same complaints. just with the same air conditioner issue alone, on only one site, there were almost 600 customer complaints. i was astounded. i can't believe there are not more recalls with what i have read. besides serious bodily injuries or death, do nissan owners need to get the media involved to get something done. locally, there is a tv station that dedicates a segment to consumer reviews and complaints. it's certainly a consideration at this point.

Passenger airbag off light illuminates frequently when an adult passenger is seated in the passenger seat. as a result, in the event of a crash, passenger would not be protected by airbags. dealer has analyzed and informed that vehicle is operating exactly as designed. vehicles has already been repaired pursuant to recall campaign 14v138000, but problem persists. *tr

Example 1. while driving in my town home community and slightly turning right while going up a slightly inclined road the vehicle begins to shake violently and it seems the transmission is locking up. goes away either by removing all pressure on accelerator or if excessive accelerator pressure is applied. the type of accelerator pressure needed to stop the excessive shaking would bring the vehicle to a speed that is unsafe relative to observed speeds limits in community. example 2. these exhibited symptoms have also occurred with an increasing frequency while driving on city roads in light to moderate traffic: when you are coasting up to slower moving traffic in front of you and then need to accelerate as that traffic increases speed, the car will shake violently. this occurs mostly at speeds under 30 -35 mph but has been felt at speeds as high as 55 mph. it feels as though the entire drive train of the vehicle is going to fall out of the car. vehicle currently has 1200 miles on odometer and symptoms have been increasingly noticeable and frequent since 605 miles on odometer. separate issue: navigation / audio system has frozen screen upon start up and becomes un responsive. no ability to change previous volume level of radio which may have been left at high volume level during previous drive. input is not accepted on head unit or steering wheel controls. navigation will not initiate. car must be restarted for system to reboot and this may remedy the problem for one drive cycle or more. has occurred 5 or more times in first month of ownership. should a catastrophic failure in the drive train occur, i feel that i am at risk of serious personal injury. additionally i am concerned that resale value of vehicle will be diminished due to damage caused by inherent design flaw in power train and in-car electronics. *tr

I have noticed that if you apply the emergency brake with cruise control on, it does not cut out the cruise control. i have noticed this on trips up and down i-95 in a car with a hand emergency brake. i have had numerous knee operations and on long trips i tried to just pull the emergency brake on while holding the button in. i did this because of trouble with my knees. i noticed that although the car did slow enough for what i needed the cruise was still on when i took the brake off. i realized that if someone tried this in an emergency situation that the engine would try to accel and all sorts of bad things would happen. i tried this in every make car that my friends and i have. no one cuts out the cruise control under this situation. i know the cars systems know the brake is being applied because the like comes up on the dash. it would be 1 simple program change to include the cut out. i believe this to be an important issue. please take steps to remedy this. i have emailed this to numerous auto makers. thank you, i have a confirmation (odi)#10585659 nhtsa and case#[xxx] nhtsa what do i have to do in order to get this looked at? i registered a complaint on 4-1-2014 and sent a letter to them. i haven't heard anything. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

After several dealerships would not address a heated steering wheel that does not heat up it gets luke cool to warm only in spots around the steering wheel! as per finally one nissan service center the service mgr a very decent person tested it with a wireless thermometer tried very hard to get this supposedly heated steering wheel to work properly replaced it with a new one but still does the same thing! does not work like nissan states in brochure! this is unfair that i have over 20 problems with this car and nissan will not do the right thing! i feel my health declining over a car that needs a babysitter! *tr

Rear taillight housings fog up badly, some dealerships didn't recognize problem then one did when i did not go back to dealership right away they sent the parts back! finally another dealership recognized the problem but when they changed them one had a mark inside of the fixture, part missing inside truck and a new scratch mark on the car, also put in incorrectly! this car is turning into a frankenstein car and exactly what and how everything being done to it to devalue this car is happening! factory seals are being broken and not being fixed at all is the outcome! the tail lights fog up more than the last ones! this car is a lemon! *tr
