Takata recall on may 14, 2019, i spoke with a nissan representative regarding my defective dashboard that is melting and has become shiny and sticky with a glare. it is dangerous as the silk surface of my dash glares onto my windshield and totally obstructs my view. the representative instructed me to go to my nissan dealer and have a diagnostic done. i went to the dealership, who gave me a piece of paper describing the defective dashboard and the cost of replacing it. on may 20, 2019, i spoke with another nissan representation, where i explained that i have a piece of paper from nissan stating the problem with my dashboard and what it will cost to fix it. i was then told that because my warranty coverage had expired, there is nothing nissan can do about my defective dashboard. as indicated on the internet, this is a known issue with the make and model (nissan altima) car i have and there are several accidents that have resulted from it. i also noticed that florida sued nissan on this same issue and won. i'm disappointed that nissan isn't owning up to its responsibility on this issue and is making me resort to sending this letter for a resolution. i'm asking that nissan replace the dashboard at no charge as this is a defect that nissan needs to correct. please call me and let me know when i should bring my car in for repair.

I am experiencing two severe safety issues with my 2009 nissan altima coupe. 1. when i am driving on the highway, after about an hour, my transmission will not allow the car to go the speed limit or accelerate. no matter how hard i press on the gas pedal, the car will not shift, loses power and gets progressively worse the farther i drive. i had to pull off the highway for fear that someone would hit me because no matter how hard i tried to accelerate, the car would only go about 40 mph. 2. the dashboard is literally melting causing a blinding glare when the sun (during the day) or other headlights (during the night or rain) hit it...it creates a blinding glare making it impossible to see. both of these issues, the transmission and dash make driving extremely hazardous.

The top of the dashboard is melting. this causes a shiny surface which is reflective in the sun, causing a major distraction to the driver

Rain water is leaking from my dashboard and getting on my floorboard. it was stationary at the moment

It won't start most of the time and when it does it'll only let me get up to maybe 20mph and that's it

Nothing but problems with this car since i purchased it. had to replace all tire sensors, speed sensors, coils, front passenger tire rod, the ctv transmission, and the trunk leaks into the trunk and the tail light's. i have repaired all these things out of my own pocket.i have been stranded several times, i have almost been hit, and have had the car towed. the dash has become sticky and everything sticks to it. it produces a glare on the wondow which makes it hard to see.the engine experiences loss of power and no mechanic can pinpoint the problem. i do not drive it much since i have purchased it. this car should be a lemon or recalled. the problems keep coming.

The dashboard is melting and is causing such a glare, during the day but also at night making it unsafe to drive.

Car caught on fire completely totaled. it was driven less than 2 miles parked and shut off. within 15 minutes the car was completely engulfed in flames.

Cpsc:this winter i was noticing and having even more problems with glare and sun and lights at night reflecting on these shiny "melted" areas, making it difficult to see the road in the right conditions. as previously stated, my dash was all originally a black matte finish and glare was never a problem prior to the dash material appearing to break down. i decided to google "melting dashboards" to see what i could find to fix or repair, or reports, etc. *bf updated 08/31/2017*js ...updated 10/03/17 *bf updated 10/25/17 *bf *js *tr

Water leaks inside the car every time it rains, when it's stationary. water is all over the front floor mats and back floor mats. from the moment i bought the car, water got trapped in the passenger front door. i had to manually drain the water by lifting the rubber on the edges of the door. currently, the water has moved inside the car. as said above, all over the car floor. i took the car to nissan and they discover the the body draining hose came off, $500 later. this a manufacturing defect, how can a drainage hose just come off. this is a safety issue because water can create electrical issues with the car and present unsafe driving.

Dashboard is melting causing glare on windshield.

The dashboard is sticky which sometimes causes a glare on the windshield when driving the vehicle. my son 18 and the primary driver of the vehicle has stated that sometimes on sunny days there is a glare on the windshield caused by the sticky dashboard. my concern is for his safety and the safety of others driving and this causing an accidents

This car leaks water into the drivers side floor, and keeps trapped rain water inside of both panel doors for weeks after it rains. i've already had to get the exhaust manifold leak fixed (which luckily was covered under a recall). not to mention that i ended up having to go to the er last year for a breathing treatment because fumes were leaking into my cabin via the air conditioning(problem unknown/undiagnosed). but now like many other owners of the 2009 nissan altima, unfortunately the steering wheel ignition lock/switch malfunctioned causing my engine not to be able to turn on suddenly. when i returned to my car, the key fob was not recognized and the engine will not turn on. after towing it to a local nissan dealership, it was diagnosed as a faulty steering wheel ignition lock, and will cost me an average of $1100 to fix. after contacting nissans headquarters to see if it would be covered even though their "campaign" ended in jan 2016 for my vehicle, they denied the request to provide assistance. i don't understand how any auto manufacturer can be allowed to get away with installing a faulty part into the car, and then pass along the ultimate cost of fixing it to any owner. it's not okay to simply cover the cost of those owners who's switch fails during a certain time period, and then inform the rest of us that they are unwilling to help. nissan installed the defective part, and the right thing to do would be to own up to that mistake and issue a recall. clearly nissan does not have the best interest of their customers at heart. and from what i understand, they must have known that part was faulty enough not to issue a temporary extension of the

The hood suddenly flew up, hitting the windshield. fortunately the windshield did not break, but there is damage on both sides of the car where the hood bent the body. a couple of months ago i had multiple incidents of the initial hood latch coming loose, so i noted the car sitting in the parking area with the hood only on the 1st latch. *tr

While driving on interstate, sun roof glass came out of roof. there is a recall on sun roof glass due to shoddy, improper installation. contacted sun roof company about recall, filed a claim, was told that it would be fixed in a convenient and timely manner. they gave me their installers contact info and instructed me to contact them with some info and they( the installer) would handle the rest. when i contacted the installer i was told rather rudely that i was not to call them(installer), that they were very busy, and would get the info from the company(webasto) and contact me when they received the parts. after a week or so, i contacted webasto again to see if i could have an installer in my city to repair the glass due to the time it was taking and the fact that their installer was not in a convenient location. at first i was told yes, i would just have to get a one time authorization for the installer i chose. my installer followed the instructions given, then after about four days of no return call about the authorization, i contacted webasto again and was told they were refusing to o.k. my installer, and insisting that i use their installer even at the cost of it being done in a timely manner or at my convenience. still have not heard from anyone to date. today's date being 3/31/15. *tr

My nissan altima coupe's dashboard is starting to melt. with that issue, the dashboard is starting to have a reflective glare that is making it very difficult to drive or see during daylight and nighttime when the street lights are on. this is beginning to get serious due to the fact that this dashboard problem is starting to really block my view from the front. when the sun is really bright, i am scared to drive because i may run into the car in front of me that i cannot see because of the glare. if i was to get into an accident because of this glare on my dashboard blocking my view, i will sue the maker of the car to the fullest. *tr

My 09 altima's dash is melting. noticed little small spots a year and a half ago. started getting more spots and larger spots. now the whole top part of the dash by the front window is sticky ,tacky and slick. very bad glare in the window and cannot drive car in bright sunlight safely. thought it was the heat but you can touch the dash at night, at 40 degrees and you will get black marks on your finger tips. several reports on car forums of vehicles doing the same. can not wipe the dash or touch it with anything because it will stick or mark the dash. as the dash deterioration gets worse, it will be more dangerous to drive.

My dashboard is melting right now is a ugly sticky mess, some heavy glare reducing 50% of the vision in my windshield affecting me watching for pedestrians, cars, the road., etc. *tr

Help, a melting and shiny sticky dash on my 2009 altima generates a tremendous glare on the windshield and prevents me from clearly viewing the highway in front during the day. it also distors the viewing during the night due to the on-comming vehicles headlights. it is highly serious and dangerous driving safety hazard problem that could/will "it is just a timing issue" cause an accident, the dash can't be clean and is melting. it is also minimazing the value of the vehicle. please advise if there is solution or recall from nissan to fix this problem. *tr

Rear left and right doors, and right front door has failed door lock actuators. the doors will not open and close automatically. electricity goes through the doors, but the actuators are dysfunctional. the vehicle only had 41,000 miles on date of purchase, but i am not sure if previous owner left doors open or windows wind down, and it caused water damage. the inspection given by the dealership is actually deceptive as well, because this car should have failed inspection. i can not drive with the doors locked because based on the findings at the nissan dealer, the doors may become permanently locked due to the damages of the door lock actuator and lock me inside the car. the inspector should have failed the inspection based on the damages of the vehicle. the cost of repairs is 965.00. *tr

I purchased a vehicle from national motors on 12/17/2013. the same date i purchased the vehicle from national motors, i noticed my locks did not work. the driver side door will open and close automatically with my key while the other three doors are nonresponsive. i contacted [xxx], a car sales man and was told my locks would be fixed once the locks were ordered. they would fix my tail light and the locks. in january, [xxx] advised that the locks were on back order but should arrive within another two weeks after the call.i called the dealership every week for a status update on the locks and continued to get the run around. [xxx] stated someone from the dealership would call me in regards to the locks on 2/13/14 after stating "he was no longer dealing with this anymore". no one called. last week, 2/18-2/20 i was advised by [xxx] that the owner of the dealership, [xxx], decided to no longer fix my locks. [xxx] stated that the locks were ordered and [xxx] returned the locks to the warehouse stating that he was no longer going to repair the doors. my father contacted the dealership on 2/21/14 and john advised that i go to my local best buy to get a remote sensor. on 2/22/14 i was told by a best buy installer that the sensor would not fix the locks because there is something wrong with the car. since the key opens one of the doors, the installer stated that the remote sensor is not the issue. there is something wrong with the doors. john hammer then stated to me and the installer of best buy that the dealership was made aware of the issues with the door prior to my purchase and still decided to sell the car to me. this same day, the best buy installer contacted john and told him that the locks would not be fixed by best buy. john told me to come to the dealership to trade the car because they would not fix the locks. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
