While driving on i95 the car shut off and was steered very difficultly to the off ramp and the side of the road. smoke started to come out of the front of the car and i exited the car and the car proceeded to be engulfed in flames burning the front half of the car to the front seats. fire rescue arrived to put out the fire.1116
Ny exhaust manifold is having trouble i've been told that there's been a recall but cannot find anything recent. my tire pressure monitoring system isn't reading correctly either and i'm scared i'm going to get into an accident. my exhaust manifold there's a loud noise coming from it according to the shop that checked my car. i've kept up with all maintaince i am unsure what is happening.
At 120000 miles the transmission failed on this 2.5 l engine. we paid $3,000 to have that repaired 10 months ago. now the car is using about 1 gallon of oil every 3 weeks and we found that cylinder 3 has piston rings that are shot. our dealership confirms that this engine is known for transmission problems. i noticed that the 2006 model altima with a 2.5 l engine had an extended warranty issued because the car uses excessive oil and an engine fire may result. our newer model with the same engine nearly runs out of oil every month and is very hot. do we have any recourse with nissan? anyone else having these problems?
Excessive oil consumption at 120k plus miles. the last two or three oil changes my car has required an unusual amount of oil. i've checked a few online forums and this appears to be an issue with nissan vehicles. i had an oil change today and i confirmed that my engine oil was low and this was after 4k miles between changes.
My nissan 2008 altima started stalling while i pulled into traffic. it was happening for several months and was random. i took my car into nissan, after realizing there was a cvt transmission recall for this car. they examined the car and determined that there was no problem with the car, because the car did not report any diagnostic code. they told me to come back, when the car stalled and they could get the necessary code, since the car was experiencing the problem the code would be in the system. i had reported this problem to nissan corporate and got case number. on may 7, 2018, nissan found the code and the problem was a bad cvt transmission. nissan determined to pay half the cost of replacing my transmission. on may 18,2018, i picked up my car and experienced the same problem driving away from the dealership. i called back and the manager said the problem was caused by high fluids and to drive the car over the weekend and it should be fine. well, i stalled while driving into traffic two more times over the weekend. i called nissan corporate to say that the problem is not fixed. they have refused to do anything. i do not feel safe in this car and am terrified to drive it. i'm driving an unsafe car and nissan is not helping ... at least for now
Loud bang and oil cooler busted while driving down the road at 55 mph, it started smoking and then fire coming from under the hood i pulled over turned of the ignition and got out and the car was fully engulfed in flames within minutes
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. on several occasions, when the vehicle was idling or when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle stalled and lost power. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the crank shaft needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 171,000.
Loss of power. can't drive over 60 mph. rpms keep going up but car won't go any faster.
At around 11:50 pm monday august 21, 2017 my son parked his nissan altima on residential street in front of a friends house while he ran in for a bit before heading home, about 10 minutes later 2 loud "pops" rattled the home. they stepped out front to find that his 2008 nissan altima was fully engulfed in flames 20-30 feet high. at 00:11 the fire department arrived and worked to extinguished the car, finally finding it safe to leave at 01:17. they car is obviously a total loss. i am requesting an investigation into the cause of this random "explosion" of the vehicle while parked. thankfully, no one was injured and no other structures were damaged (possible damage to the city road), this very well could have resulted in a devastating outcome.
Takata recall the exhaust manifold has a large crack in it, leaking fumes into the cabin of the vehicle. i replaced the part 6 months ago. i'm already having problems with the new part. i've seen numerous nissan altima's on the road with the same problem (very loud exhaust). there must be a design flaw that causes the metal to weaken and break.
Takata recall, got in a car accident and the air bags didn't deploy. my car was a total loss. were there any airbags in the car??????
Takata recall loud noise on the outside of car and whining noise when riding brakes.
Timing chain
The exhaust manifold cracked allowing carbon monoxide to enter the passenger compartment. this is a severe safety hazard that nissan is aware of. nissan refused to repair this under warranty as the vehicle had 100k miles on it. this is a common problem on 4 cylinder altima's this is caused by a defective part which should be repaired under warranty due to it's inherent safety concerns. this can cause occupants to pass out while driving with the possibility of causing damage and injury to third party individuals. nissan should be required to repair all issues surrounding a cracked exhaust manifold under warranty. this should not have a mileage limitation imposed. simply stated an exhaust manifold should not exhibit cracking under normal driving conditions for the lifetime of a vehicle. this is a southern car with no evidence of rust on the effected part. part is available for inspection. *tr
After replacing my transmission, the car continued to sputter anytime i was driving for more than a few miles. my mechanic figured out that the catalytic converter was overheating to about 600 degrees when it should have been no more than 250 degrees, causing parts of the engine to begin melting. the check engine light never came on to alert me of this issue, and i may now have permanent engine damage.
Sticky substance on dash/ 2nd transmission is giving me problems
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced severe vibration after being started and while being operated. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine mount bolt was stripped and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. in addition, the sun roof detached from the vehicle independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed as a bolt missing in the sun roof and, due to weather conditions, caused corrosion of the sun roof. the vehicle was repaired; however, the contact heard an abnormal sound from the sun roof area. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
5 yrs ago the sound of my engine changed and upon inspection the welding on the exhaust manifold was cracked. i was informed by pembroke pines nissan that since car is at 38,500 miles and out of warranty despite it being a manufacture failure it would set me back $975. i didn't have the repair done. for the past 3 yrs, my passenger airbag light will turn off and on even irregardless if someone is in the seat or not. furthermore, the radio will go blank or have illegible characters on it. i too have the melting dash issue as well as a couple of times i slipped and my finger nail has gouged out pieces of dash board. it's amazing that lexus has issued a recall on their melting dash board on the is250 & is350 issues but nissan could care less about its brand or reputation; i guess that's what happens when the company isn't whole japanese owned.
While i was driving on the street my car completely powered down, i was so scared, because there was moving traffic behind me. i tried stepping on the brakes and then hitting the gas again but the car would not move. i had to quickly put my parking lights on and pray that no one would hit me. then i turned the car off and on a couple of times and it started moving, only to power down two blocks later. i was able to pull over to the side this time and i waited a while and then turned the car back on. this time the service engine light came on. i took my car to auto zone and codes came up for the speed sensor and throttle sensor. this was so scary and hazardous, thank god i got off the highway beforehand because there was too much traffic!
Manifold, i have taken it to the shop, they told me that it could be the manifold or gasket, is there a recall on that part, very unsafe car fills up with the smell of gasoline it also rusting on the back by the wheel it seems to me that its to early to be rusting poor paint
I need a new transmission at 126,000 miles! car began making noise as if it was stuck in a gear, it became sluggish as i was trying to accelerate, the car would not accelerate. drove it to sheehy nissan a few days later and was told that i would have to call consumer affairs because i was outside the extended warranty of 120,000. my mileage was 126,000. received call from sheehy service specialist leo saying that it would be fixed free of charge. the next day received another call from service specialist and was told that it was not approved by consumer affairs for repair. i called consumer affairs and was told that i would receive a call on friday, sept. 18 from nissan's regional specialist, quinashay, that more information was being gathered from sheehy nissan. received call from quinashay saying that there was nothing nisan could do for me because i was outside the extended warranty period! this is my third nissan purchase from nissan stanza to a couple of nissan altimas, always upgrading. i've been a loyal nissan customer and for what! never thought i would be treated this way.
Speed went from 70 to 60 miles per hour, it just drop
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that the push button system failed to start the engine. the engine started when the push button was engaged numerous times. the contact also stated that the fob did not start the engine. the vehicle was taken to howard bently buick gmc (1230 huntsville highway, fayetteville, tn 37334, phone: 931-433-1585). the buick dealer advised the contact to take the vehicle to a nissan dealer for diagnostic testing; however, the buick dealer replaced the battery, which did not correct the failure. the buick dealer stated that the brake stop switch may need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 90,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. as a result, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact and the air bags failed to deploy. no injuries were sustained. a police report was filed. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.
oil cap will not unscrew on 2008 nissan altima manual transmission that is leaking oil. *tr
I went to accelerate and car, i guess you could say it just gave out. it was still running but as i hit gas it would not go any faster. the car immediately started running very rough so i pulled over and turned engine off. i took it to a nissan dealership for diagnosis, and was told i need whole new motor due to the fact the camshaft broke. now this is a part i am being told that should not break and it must be a manufacturing defect. i was told to check and see if any recalls have been put out on camshaft. i did and there have not been. i am filing complaint because i think there should be a recall. i now have to pay out of pocket (est. is over $4,800!!!!) for repairs done to my car for something that should not have broke in the first place. and by the camshaft breaking it caused a list of other major damage to my engine, which is why i need to replace it! *tr
My vehicle's transmission failed after only 90,000 miles. nissan replaced the transmission for free under their extended cvt warranty program, however, less than a year later, the check engine light came on while making a long distance trip on the interstate. according to nissan the cvt fluid required for the cvt transmission can become glue like and gunk up at high speeds or in hot weather, causing the engine to overheat and the car to stall. the solution for this problem is an external coolant system for the cvt fluid provided to the customer at their expense to keep the transmission fluid from becoming thick. i am extremely disgusted with my nissan experience, they knowingly are making transmissions which fail after less than 100,000 miles and are requiring them to use nissan cvt fluid which is a fail also.
While my husband and children were driving through ely, nv on their way to the lake, 300+ miles from home the car began to smoke. upon pulling the release to pop the hood, the car burst into flames. my family escaped the vehicle injury free. my car is now a pile of melted metal. someone please explain to me how this happens? and who is responsible? i had a year left to pay on this vehicle and barely 120,000 miles. what is my recourse? how do i replace my vehicle? please help. *tr
I parked my 2008 nissan altima 3.5 se in front of my house took groceries into the house i return to the car and it would not start. the key symbol was on. i can without pressing the brake change modes just wont start. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, a rattling noise emitted from the engine. there was decreased on engine rpms when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician indicated that the exhaust heat shield needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem who stated that they had trigger an unknown voluntary recall for the issue specified. the failure mileage was unknown.
Had the oil changed at dealership. upon driving back home the car would not start. i received the yellow key light on the dash and could not depress the brake pedal or start the car. i attempted to put in a new battery to the intelligent key and also jumpstart the vehicle. still would not start. nothing warns you of this issue and glad that i was not driving the vehicle when this happened or part failed. on the following date the vehicle was towed to the local dealership. on monday the 7th the car was diagnosed with the electric steering lock assembly failure. same day i contacted nissan consumer affairs to find out there were no recalls nor would they offer any assistance or recall this part as they have on other similar models. *tr
Upon driving the vehicle there was a strong smell of gasoline inside the cabin of the vehicle. the vehicle started smoking while driving immediately the car ran hot. had the car towed to nearest dealer that then informed that the exhaust manifold/catalyst converter had failed and was leaking. which they informed me was very dangerous but they where not responsible for repairs which led to cracked heads on the motor and eventually total engine failure. what a safe vehicle for a single mother of two children? not so much,. *tr
I was traveling on this date from cranberry township, pennsylvania where i work as an engineer at westinghouse headquarter office to west chester, ohio where my family reside for a family thanksgiving gathering. it was 6:30 am and it was snowing. the traffic ahead begin slowing down for some reason. the visibility was becoming quite poor. i was in the middle of the 3-lane i-79 heading south-west. hence i wanted to put on my hazard signal to alert the traffic behind me of the danger ahead. in the process i pushed on the on/off start button. the engine died right away while i was traveling at 50 mph. all control was immediately lost in the process. unable to steer my car either left or right i pushed on the hazard button to alert the vehicle behind od my distress. luckily for me, the fellow behind slowed down and stayed behind me until i brought my car to a full and complete stop in the middle of the highway and put it in park to restart the engine and slowly continue my trip without further incident. i was extremely scared and surprise that it was possible at all to kill the engine while at speed on the road in this vehicle. i do believe this is a major flaw that could have been quite serious under different circumstances. imagine it happened down the mountain in west virginia where i was heading next..... thank you *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate without warning. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road where the engine was turned off, and after restarting the vehicle resumed normally. the failure recurred three times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where they informed the contact that the crank shaft and speed sensors would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
The following had to be fixed all on one visit: my alternator replaced; top motor mount replaced, brake sensor replaced, battery replaced, and had an oil cooler leak fixed. all was covered with my extended warranty ($858 otherwise). it has had a total of 4 batteries, 2 alternators, 2 manna folds (a recall), new shocks and struts (i paid for) and my transmission warranty was extended to 120,000 miles. (there was also another recall to the fuel tank but can't remember any specifics). i take great care of my car, have it maintained regularly, and only use quality gas. this is my fourth nissan and i am greatly disappointed in the quality. i am debating as to whether or not i should trade it in. *tr
I pulled in a parking space, foot on the brake, and before i could put it in park the car accelerated and took off. the brakes would not stop the car. i went about twenty feet, over curbs, sidewalk, another parking space, avoiding cars, skid marks made, and finally directed the car toward a dumpster and it stopped. it is a miracle that someone in my path wasn't killed. the engine was pushed back and so the body shop connected with nissan considered it a total loss. *tr

Went in for an oil change at mossy nissan, kearny mesa, ca. was informed the headgasket(s) were leaking coolant. not covered under warranty although mechanic informed me the leak(s) were a common and pre-existing condition. he went on to explain that nissan used the incorrect head gaskets for this model of 3.5 v6 (front wheel drive vq35hr to be specific). once nissan realized their mistake, all subsequent engines received the correct head gaskets and the leakage problems went away. i am requesting that nissan formally acknowledge the head gasket defect and extend the drivetrain warranty to cover the replacement expense. i am unsure whether the nhtsa can help me in this case, but perhaps if my complaint can be in the database, we can get more affected consumers to submit similar head gasket defect complaints in the hopes that nissan will be forced to remedy the problem.
My daughter and i were about 30 minutes north of san antonio on our way home to dallas. in an instance my car stopped accelerating and the mph declined. i checked to make sure the car was still in drive and it was. i pulled over as to not cause an accident and turned off my car. it took a few times to start it back as it would start and die. about the 3rd try it started and i revved the gas - it sounded normal so i drove to an autozone - it was the closest. i asked if they would check the computer to see what it said and they said it wouldn't read w/o a code. i took the car 10/1/12 to bankston nissan in dallas (the car drove fine all the way home) and they said it may be too much cvt fluid. took it in and they couldn't duplicate the issue and the fluid was fine - did not need to be changed or anything. the tech said when it happens again to pull over and have it towed to a nissan - he thinks maybe since i restarted it may have cleared the codes. i asked if he thought it would happen again and he said yes. looking online i see this same description and issue over and over again. i even called nissan consumer affairs and received a call back... this did not happen before when i had a master cylinder issue that was recalled 6 months later. nissan at that time just said sorry. this time i got a call back inquiring, but then still get a sorry. i think something is up. they all seem to know the issue but w/o a code they wont replace the transmission under warranty. what if there is never a code??!!! *tr
Vehicle was driving along with other normal traffic when it suddenly lost power and stalled on an incline. driver carefully steered vehicle to a safe place downhill and called a towing company to tow vehicle to driver's residence. upon visual inspection of engine compartment, a rubber seal on the ecm wiring harness was found buckled up. on trying to remove and re-insert the harness, it was found that ecm terminals had corroded and some pin contact had actually fallen off. upon doing some research, this was found to be an issue covered under federal emissions warranty. driver/owner called the local nissan dealership who immediately, presumably at their own expense, towed the car to their facility, checked and found the ecm to be faulty but blamed the faulty wiring harness for the failure. and further, the dealer claimed since the harness carries a 3 year warranty and was the "cause" of the ecm failure, this was no longer covered under federal emissions warranty resulting in a bill of $2,000+ for replacing the faulty - corroded - wiring harness and the faulty ecm. attempts to have the dealer do more research or contact nissan usa for advise fell on deaf ears. if the car had stalled on high speed and caused fatalities on the highway, would these repairs then have been "part" of federal emissions warranty coverage for publicity purposes? it is out of sheer luck that 1. the car stalled while going downhill and, 2. the car was traveling at 40 miles per hour. i desperately need advise on this while i await for delivery of a special order for the ecm and harness. in the meantime, my rental car expenses are piling up and are not covered by any warranty. *tr

I was driving the car normally when i noticed the light " check engine soon" turned on. i stopped the car at tires plus and asked to check the oil. the diagnosis was that there was no oil circulation. i was advised to not drive the car and tow it to the nissan dealer. tires plus also provided me with a technical service bulletin issued by nissan (classification ec07-014, reference # ntb08-17, issued on january 22nd, 2008) reporting problems with the ivt solenoid valve for some vehiclesmanufactured in 2008. my vin was included in that range of vins informed in the technical bulletin. i towed the car to the nissan dealer and contacted consumer affairs. nissan is rejecting the claim because the car is out of the warranty. also, nissan is saying that the problem was absence of oil and they found sludge. they are asking me assume the costs if they open the engine to investigate the problem.i am afraid that the engine is damaged. *tr
I have experienced several incidences where when pressing the brake & trying to start the car (by the push start ignition) the car will not turn over. all electrical components in the vehicle will turn on (radio, power windows, air, etc) but the car will not start. i've had the battery tested numerous times and it always passes as a good battery. after doing some research online, i found several forums where others have complained about the same problem with their 2008 nissan altimas. from the sounds of it, it might be a problem with a brake cable. with as many other complaints that i've seen on this, how come there hasn't been a recall issued? *tr
As i got off the interstate (driving 60 mph) then reduced my speed to 20 when i tried to accelerate it wouldn't go!! it would not accelerate and my rpm would climb up to 4 or 5! i had to drive all the way back home on interstate driving 20 mpg!!! it's happened only when i travel long distances!! i am highly dissatisfied with the altima! everyone i encountered about the 2006-2008 altima regrets getting one. *tr
