We have classified the 78 complaints from 2007 Nissan Altima about SUSPENSION into the following categories.
Vehicle was parked and i happened to notice a metal piece hanging down. sway bar had snapped and was dangling. highway driving and rarely a bump. must be manufacturer defect and judging from multiple reports with similar stories, must be dealt with. dealer reports no contact damage or compromise in break area. manufacture defect. *tr
Looked at the car and saw something hanging from the bottom. brought it to a mechanic and found that the sway bar, sometimes called the stabilizer bar, broke in half. the car was not in an accident. i searched the internet and found that other people have had the same problem with the nissan altima 2007. *tr
Rear stabilizer bar (aka sway bar) snapped on driver's side. was turning right from a stop and heard a "sprung" noise but thought it was just a small pothole. a week later, noticed something hanging under the car - it was part of the bar. no rust under the car whatsoever - failure due to corrosion would be highly unlikely. metal fatigue, manufacturer defect, or under-engineered suspension design are more likely. body roll a bit more pronounced than before the incident, but vehicle is still safe to drive in its current state. car out of warranty. purchased aftermarket replacement part and will be installing it myself. *tr
Noticed the rear sway bar was broken on the passenger side of the car. no indication of excessive corrosion or damage from hitting anything. car is garage kept. car is driven by a senior with usually 1 passenger or less around town. no evidence that this should have broken. nissan is reviewing the case now. *tr
I was driving down the road when i heard a bang, and then the car started make a noise like the exhaust let go, and vibrated when i pushed the gas pedal to gain some speed, so when i got it checked out it came out to be the sway bar broke on the driver side, i take care of my car and something like that shouldn't just break, even if you do hit a bump, i have been researching on the internet and came to find out that this is known problem but nissan won't take responsibility. i always have my 3 year old little boy in the car, i was told not to drive very far with it broken but i am trying to get some answers first, why did this happen, a part like this shouldn't just break. i am from nova scotia canada b1a-2s2 but the list below says you have to be from the united states. *tt
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan altima. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed a large popping sound coming from the front end of the vehicle. the contact examined the vehicle and noticed that the sway bar had fractured. the vehicle had not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were 120,000.
I was driving and made a right turn when my family and i heard a pop. i did not hit a pothole or anything unusual. did not realized what had happened until a few days later when i went to my mechanic to replace the struts and he informed me that the sway bar was broken. for no reason it broke and i think that it shouldn't have happened. i think nissan should make this part a recall. i love obviously nissan because in my immediate family we own three of them. i love to continue to be a nissan owner, but if they cannot continue to make reliable cars, we would have to take our business elsewhere. i hope nissan would take a close look at this problem, rectify it and continue to build dependable cars that we have grown to love. *tr
I dropped it off to get an oil change, and the next thing i receive a phone call telling me my rear sway bar is broke. they said it has rusted away, and that this is a more then common reason in the 2007 nissan altima. i verified this on the internet with many articles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan altima. the contact stated he looked under the vehicle and noticed that a bar was hanging. the contact pulled the bar away from the vehicle and realized that it was the sway bar. an authorized dealer was notified and stated that there were no recalls addressing the failure. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 105,000. updated 07/06/12 *bf updated 07/12/12
The rear stabilizer bar on my 2007 altima broke on the driver side. i was traveling 55mph in a curve on the highway. after inspection of the stabilizer bar i found that it was hollow. i have found a host of complaints on the internet for the same model sway bar breaking. *tr
While having my oil changed, the mechanic pointed out to me that the left rear sway bar was broken. despite numerous similar complaints about broken sway bars, nissan has not initiated a service bulletin or recall for this issue. *tr
I was taking the car to get an oil change and the mechanic noticed that the sway bar had rusted through and broke. he said it was a defective part and rusted through due to the fact that it was hollow - he explained it is dangerous to drive over 30 mph with a defective sway bar. it is my opinion there should be a recall due to the safety concerns. *kb
I didn't notice the sway bar was broke until my husband was following me home one night from work and saw the right side hanging down. *tr
I was just notified that my 2007 nissan altima has a broken sway bar. the vehicle only has 53,000 miles. i have seen multiple reports online of this happening to 2007 altimas, yet the dealership where it was purchased claims they've never seen one break before. there have been no accidents/towing/driving conditions that should have caused this to break. i drive 8 miles per day through a residential neighborhood. this is a huge safety concern and i'm disappointed in the quality of mine (and others') altimas. *tt
The left rear stabilizer bar failed for no apparent reason. *tt
Upon inspection of an unknown metal tube hanging visibly next to the driver's side rear wheel, i was able to determine that the sway bar had deteriorated and broke. it is a very poorly designed hollow tube steel. my vehicle has approx 43,000 miles on it. i did research and found this to be a common yet unadressed issue with nissan. *tr
The stabilizer sway bar for the nissan altima just broke on its own under normal conditions. i was just driving going speed limit on a local road and the bar snapped. although i had an accident with this vehicle 4 years ago, the car still ran smoothly because it was minor. the bar snapped on its own and we drive this vehicle with care. *kb
Rear sway bar has rusted through and broken in half with the right side dangling down and dragging on the ground. no visible damage to the bar occurred prior to the break. *tr
Rear sway bar broke on driver side. car in excellant condition no abuse and low milage. never hit anything that would break it. looks like it just snapped. *tr
I recently discovered the rear sway bar snapped on my 2007 nissan altima. a look at the bar shows it was a clean break with no signs of damage to any areas around the bar. a quick search online turned up other complaints of 2007 altima drivers that say they have the same problem with the sway bar snapping in the same place and with no signs of damage. it appears there is a larger issue at hand with this piece of equipment and it needs to be addressed. *tr
Rear sway bar snapped. this car is driven in normal weather conditions at normal driving speeds,on smooth roads(to school and church). have not driven over anything or had any collisions. the bar just snapped all of a sudden( we saw it hanging out from under the car). *tr
Rear sway bar snapped on drivers side. no rust seen. hundreds of similar complaints on-line. whats it going to take to get a recall? a whole family getting killed? *kb
Rear sway bar broke during normal driving / operation. the sway bar on the driver's side broke through at the driver's side bushing. the broken section was eventually observed dangling beneath vehicle causing obvious safety concerns. the exact milage of component failure is unknown as bar likely was supported by bushing for sometime before becoming visable. this situation really warrents a recall in my opinion. *tr
I have a 2007 nissan altima with approx 42000 miles. i noticed something hanging down behind the rear left tire. when i took it to the shop i was told that the rear sway bar was snapped in half. this car has only has one owner and has been taken care of. this should not have happened and nissan needs to make this a recall, as it is a safety issue, and has been reported by so many people!! *tt
Rear sway bar broke just outboard of the passenger side sway bar bushing. the broken section was hanging down and dragging on the road. *tt
Rear sway bar on my altima rusted in half. *kb
Discovered today that the rear sway bar had snapped just inside of the right side center mount. there is rust inside the hollow sway bar. i have not hit any pot holes or curbs or bumps that would cause this damage, nor is there any other damage to the suspension. the sway bar appears to have snapped from being weakened by rust. *tr
I am the owner of a nissan altima 2007 3.5 sl v6 with 29,000 miles. the rear sway bar snapped under normal driving conditions. i am getting estimates for repair. ive researched the internet and found there are a lot of complaints. why wasn't there a recall? *tr
I am the owner and sole operator of a 2007 nissan altima 3.5se with 37,000 miles. the rear sway bar snapped while making a right turn into a parking lot under normal driving conditions. the car is very well cared for and has never been driven harshly. further, this is a part that should, realistically, _never_ fail under normal driving conditions; and upon doing some research on the internet, i have found that this is a common problem for this model and year of manufacture. i have tried to remedy the situation with nissan dealers and with nissan's "customer care" line without satisfaction. this part is clearly defective in its manufacture and should be replaced at nissan's cost. more importantly, this is a safety concern, as failure of this part can compromise handling during emergency maneuvers. *kb
Rear sway bar is cracked and broke in two pieces when removed from the car. *tr
Rear passenger sway bar snapped while pulling into driveway. *tr
I own a 2007 nissan altima. single car owner - no abuse or damage. heard something dragging under car yesterday 6-20-11. stopped to look under car - something dragging by rear passenger tire. took car to firestone - was told rear sway bar broken. guy at firestone said he has repaired 3 of these on nissan altima's in past 6 months. funny thing, i called large nissan dealer and asked if a recall was in place. large nissan dealer has no idea that so many rear sway bars on 2007 nissan altima's broken. even said that they have not seen such at their dealership...hmmmmm! *tr
07 nissan altima sedan factory rear sway bar snapped unexpectedly. *tr
2007 nissan altima with broken rear sway bar. this is a safety hazard and i have had no success through the dealer or nissan corporate to resolve. *tr
I own a 2007 nissan altima. i noticed a piece of metal hanging from under the car close to the rear driver side tire. i took it to the dealer last tuesday afternoon and they said the sway bar was broke. the car has not been under any abuse. i am the only one who has ever driven this car. because of the broken sway bar it cause the ball linkage joints to wear and the shocks to leak. it cost me $ 794.13 to have this replaced and repaired. i am very unhappy with nissan because this is a well known product defect and a safety device that has failed and should be recalled. i feel that the car may have reacted poorly in an emergency situation. i would appreciate any and all the assistance in getting a recall, bulletin or special policy to reimburse this cost to me. june 5th, 2011. *tr
2007 nissan altima, broken sway bar, this vehicle has not been abused, but the sway bar has been broken. i will need to replace this sway bar asap. this was noticed 5/30/11. *tr

2007 nissan altima 2.5 sl - discovered the rear sway bar on the passenger side snapped in two. no evidence of any damage, such as being hit by something. part was purchased and replaced at owner expense. *tr
Just recently i noticed my rear sway bar had snapped into two pieces. nothing has been done to cause this; no accidents and nothing has hit the undercarriage of my car. after doing research on the internet i have found that there are many other consumers with the same exact problem - their sway bar just snapped in half too. i now have to purchase the expense car part because nissan wont recall or admit to having this default on the 2007 nissan altima. i only have 75,000 miles on my car. *tr
I recently bought a 2007 nissan altima from a friend, after a month of driving the car with no problem the rear sway bar just snapped in half. i did not hit anything to cause this accident. i have read online about many of people having this same problem. this problem needs to be addressed, &fixed!!! *tr
I have a 2007 nissan altima with 90,000 miles on it. all of a sudden i noticed when checking my air pressure that a piece of metal was hanging down under the rear passenger side of the vehicle near the suspension. i took the vehicle to my mechanic and he told me the rear sway bar on the passenger side had snapped in half. he asked me if i had hit anything and i replied no... he also found no damage around the area to suggest that i had hit something. so when i arrived back at my house i did some searching on the internet and to my surprise this seems to be a somewhat wide spread issue with alot of others owning my same vehicle. i spoke to my local nissan dealers in jacksonville florida who informed me they had never heard of such a thing, and had never received a vehicle in for service with this issue. so then i called nissan consumer affairs directly, who also stated they had never heard of this issue, which i find very hard to believe considering a simple internet search will reveal numerous people have had and reported this problem! i believe this is definitely a product defect, and nissan should issue a recall immediately! *tr
2007 nissan altima rear sway bar broke for no apparent reason. passenger side rear. at 65,000 miles. *tr
Rear sway bar on 2007 nissan altima with 50,000 miles snapped. you can see the corrosion inside the bar. also there is no apparent damage to the undercarriage of the car indicating something was hit causing the sway bar to break. *tr
Noticed a knocking noise towards the rear of the car. just rotated the tires and discovered that the rear sway bar was broke in half. we have 41000 miles on the vehicle so this seems to be a defect. i will have it repaired at my expense. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 nissan altima sl. the contact stated that the vehicle was driving abnormally rough. later, he discovered that the rear stabilizer bar was separated in two pieces. the vehicle was driven to an authorized dealer where he was advised that the rear stabilizer bar would need replacing. the vehicle was not yet repaired bu the contact was able to secure an appointment for repairs. the failure mileage was 39,600 and the current mileage was 39,668. updated 05/04/11 *bf updated 05/09/11
I was walking up to my car when i saw something dangling near the rear driver side wheel. it turned out to be the rear sway bar had broken into two pieces. my mechanic friend insisted to remove it right away as it would be too dangerous to drive. when we removed it, there was indication of rusting inside the sway bar. nissan dealers would not replace it under warranty as my car had exceeded 60,000 miles. i am now searching for new sway bar to replace it. *tr
