Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2005 Nissan Altima

I own a 2005 nissan. i rely on my car daily to get to medical appointments. the car stalls in park all lights start blinking then dies. has happened while driving as well the car will move but you cant accelerate on the pedal this happened in a traffic circle my fiance and two friends were with me at the time. this is very dangerous i could get into a bad accident and die or even kill my passengers. i have had a mechanic reset my ecm but this keeps happening i have tried to fix the problem on my own and have had no luck. i own a 2005 nissan altima 3.5se v6 four door sedan and i feel unsafe driving. something needs to be done i was hoping my experience would be awesome ive always liked the cars now honestly im scared to drive in it and wont reccomend anyone getting one. i havent had any accident or anything. me having this car is required medically. also check engine light came on one day stayed on for a month then just shut off so now i have no clue whats going on with my car.

2005 nissan altima1n4al11d... slow to accelerate after a turn or from a full stop. slow to accelerate when speedometer goes to zero during drive time. vehicle speeds up even when brake applied causing jerking motion.

Car stalling while in motion due to crank shaft sensor defect, also car is not shifting properly due to speed input sensor defect. service engine light is on, codes given during diagnostics are p0335 and p0725.

Car accelerates in an uncontrolled fashion while driving .

Crankshaft and camshaft sensors are faulty. this is a very common problem with nissan altima's. this has been replaced two times already. stalled on highway while going 65mph.

The car pick up to slow and then start picking up little by little

Check engine light due to error code p0335 which is camshaft position sensor,my car hesitate to start, need more cranking, as per nissan so many vehicles were recalled for this code but if i give my vin # they said there is no recall, i am the original owner of this vehicle, all the maintenances are up to date and currently i have only 72000 miles, i am requesting to recall 2005 nissan altima as soon as possible

crankshaft position sensor same thing is happening to the 2005 summary: on certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor. consequence: if the interruption in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor is so brief that the electronic control module (ecm) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at a low speed increasing the risk of a crash.

Car shuddered and rpm dropped and then came back up to current rpm level. came to stop light and vehicle was then put into limp mode. would not accelerate and rpm's would not go over 2000. pulled over and turned car off. restarted car and began to try and drive it again. service engine light came on and vehicle would not shift gears. tried to manually shift the automatic trans and it would hit hard upon gear shifts but was able to make it home the remaining few miles.. brought vehicle in to a mechanics shop the next morning and the codes indicate cam position sensor failures. i see numerous complaints and a recall for this under r2022 but of course my vehicle is not listed. this appears to be a common problem and all vehicles should be included in this recall as it is completely dangerous issue that comes out of nowhere while driving the vehicle. i am waiting for the vehicle to be repaired to see if the problem is completely resolved at my expense. any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

On august 18, 2014, after dropping my son off at school. i came to stop at a traffic light and when the light changed, i started to take off and noticed the car has shut down. i eventually made it home with the car going a very low speed and then speed up, but when car to a start the engine stalls. the vehicle was put on a computer to see what the diagnosis were and it was the camshaft sensors and crankshaft sensor costing $80 dollars for two and $70 for another, however these items has been changed along with a tune up and the car is doing the same. after doing some research on the computer, i noticed there were recalls on the crankshaft sensors and the ecm. i contacted nissan dealer, an appointment was made and i was told that my vin number is not showing so the problem had to been done, because i'm the second owner. it's funny how this problem comes about after 4 1/2 years of having this vehicle and the recall suppose to have been taking care of with the first owner. this is an inconvenience and it's frustrating. there is also rusting of the floor under the car, you can see the floor coming down from under the car on the passenger side. this is an outrage and something needs to be done at the cost of the dealers and not the owners. this is dangerous, you can be driving at a speed and the car just stop, which can cause a very bad accident. *tr

After going to my destination for 35 min stopping a gas pump after getting back in the car in wouldn't crank only after 2 hours. after getting back on the highway within 5 miles in stopped on me in the middle of the highway going about 55. sat on side of the road for 2 more hours before it started again. *tr

My wife was driving the car at 25 mph and the car lost all speed as if the brakes were implied and almost caused a three car pile up. now the car is stuck in 5th gear. i am really worried because my 2 year old daughter was in the car at the time. i have done research online and this is a major problem. *tr

The transmission is stuck in 5th gear, even if you try to downshift it manually it wouldn't come out of 5th gear. *tr

The car stalled out... almost got hit.... had the throttle body replaced..looked online and saw there was a recall for this year model and part...got in touch with nissan and they said there was no recall on this particular vin..from what i read all nissan altima's were recalled for this part..i also did not receive notice. can someone check this vin ast safercar.gov and let me know ...thank you...ps this car has very low mileage and is well maintained. *tr

Nhtsa campaign number: 07v527000 summary: on certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor with regard to above recall details, when i provided the vin to nissan dealership, they don't see any recalls for it. but it is quite dangerous to drive with this mechanical problem in the car. appreciate if appropriate safety care is taken by manufacturer. *tr

The first time car stopped running while driving 35 mph. the second time it stopped running while turning and the steer got real stiff. thank god there was no accident but it was real scary!!! *tr

I was starting my car on 03/23/2013 and it would not turn over at all so i tried three additional times and then the check engine light came on i called nissan regarding the recall for the crankshaft issue only to be told that my car is not under warranty or a recall and i have read several post of people having the same issue and nissan is not owning up to and taking care of the issue furthermore when i am driving the engine starts to want to stall but thankfully i was going at a decent speed for it not to do that i did go to have a test ran on the engine light coming on and it came back to be a speed control sensor and crankshaft i went to o'reilly's auto parts and when i told the nissan rep he says that the machine at o'reilly's was only taking a guess but i dont believe that one bit. *tr

Crankshaft position sensor bad, part has a known defect from the supplier yet nissan will not replace or call recall notice. car can shut down while driving, high risk for fatality. *tr

Make: nissan model: altima model year(s): 2005 nhtsa campaign id number : 07v527000 component: engine and engine cooling my car started having problems and it would not pass inspection because of the engine light alert. the reason was due to the crankshafts which i replaced but kept having the problem. the mechanic suggest to look up any outstanding recalls and i found the above campaign which describes my problem exactly. all i need to do is take it to the dealer to reprogram the ecm. the dealers states that my car is not part of the recall and want to charge to get it reprogram. why should i pay for a manufacture defect when there is an outstanding recall on this problem. the cars has no other problems and the only reason why it won't pass inspection is because of the problem described above. i don't see why this should be and i need a recall notice to take to the dealer to get the car ecm programmed. or do i have to be involved in accident before the problem can be corrected. thank you *tr

About 2 yrs ago the engine light came on in my nissan. i took it for a diagnostic and it came up with two codes that at this point i don't remember. however, what i was told is that i needed my crankshaft sensor replaced. i checked online for information about this sensor and i came across a recall for this sensor. around the same time my headlights started burning out bulbs also. i also noticed there was a recall on a headlight issue. i contacted a local dealership to check my vin to see if i qualified for the recall and i was told my vin was supposedly one of the impacted ones. which is too coincidental. my car stalls while running and at times will not start. and i say will, because, i brought it in to 2 different shops for replacement and neither could find a compatible sensor. they even ordered one from nissan and it did not fit and were unable to fix it. they apologized and said that i would be able to drive it but would eventually need to somehow replace it. i have since continued driving it, as it is the only vehicle i have. it has gotten worse and turns off my often. i am asking for some type of help. i am out of options. i am afraid it will one day shut off as i driving and cause a catastrophe. *tr

While transporting with my 1 and 2 year old in my vehicle driving about 30mph my vehicle suddenly shuts off. *tr

The following is a detailed account of the automobile accident that occurred on february 24, 2011. at approximately 11:30am, while driving my father's 2005 nissan altima 2.5s, which i regularly drive, i pulled into the parking lot of a local shopping center. i pulled into a parking space in which my vehicle was separated by a curbed sidewalk in front of the building. i placed the gear shift into park while the engine was still running. i glanced to the right of me at the passenger's seat to make sure i had my belongings. my hands were neither on the steering wheel or the gear shift when unexpectedly the vehicle instantly launch forward. it jumped the curb and hit into the shopping carts which were between my vehicle and the building's wall. the car began to lurch back and forth violently, ramming into the shopping carts, causing my body to also be tossed back and forth in the same manner. i placed the gear shift into reverse to try and remove the vehicle from the sidewalk. immediately after i was able to remove the vehicle from the sidewalk i put the gear shift back into park. however the vehicle continued to move backwards with as much force and velocity as it exerted when it first launched forward. i found myself speeding backwards so rapidly that i had no means of stopping the car. the car finally came to a stop after it struck two vehicles that were parked across the parking lot. *tr

Cars power started fluttering around 45-50 mph, like it was wanting to die. it had previously died while idleing..codes were checked they came up as bad crank and cam sensor..and bad speed sensor.and catalytic converter..noticed car was under re-call..towed it to dealer they flashed ecm..when we were driving car home all problems re-occurred..had codes checked at another garage all the same ones came up..called dealer they were no help at all and wanted to charge us to check codes told them we already had them and they said its not their problem...they have no interest in addressing the real issues or fixing what the real problem is, what a rip-off..

My 17-year-old daughter has a 2005 nissan altima. a week ago the car began shutting itself off while she is driving it. the codes said we needed to replace the crankshaft sensor and we did so. this did not stop the problem. on the way home from the auto parts store today her car stopped and she was almost rear-ended by a truck. after researching this problem on the internet it appears that nissan altimas have a history of this sort of problem. someone is going to get killed if this problem is not fixed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving approximately 10 mph the vehicle experienced difficulty accelerating and a check engine light illuminated on the dashboard. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the throttle position sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 52,000.

Recently (07/10/10) my car just made a loud knocking noise blew a big smoke on the highway at 65mph--the fire men and police that showed up believe it threw a rod because it leaked oil everywhere, had the oil changed exactly 5 days prior. *tr

2005 altima - when moving forward after stopping, vehicle will jerk forward. i must immediately take my foot off the gas pedal. the occurs only in low gear, after a stop, and occurs 3 to 4 times a week. *tr

The clutch pedal in my 2005 nissan altima is engaging but lately while driving, the clutch suddenly presses all the way to the floor while i attempt to shift gear. the pedal won't come back on its own, and shifting becomes difficult if not impossible. i almost caused an accident maneuvering my foot to unstick the pedal from the floor, while in traffic the other day. then, it suddenly went back to its typical function and operated smoothly. i've experienced two of these occurrences within the past 3 days ; the car has been fine up to this point and has been well maintained ( 83,000 miles; one owner ). *tr

Car will not accelerate and creeps along in limp home mode. its vehicle speed control problem is exactly the same as nhtsa recall 13v43000 of sept. 26, 2013, that affects nissan infiniti models. after stopping and restarting once or twice the problem will disappear. in traffic this is very dangerous. it happens 2 or 3 times a year. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan altima, i bought the car in 10/2008 a few months afterwards i started noticing the clutch would go all the way to the floor. i had a friend drive it after that incident and he said he didn't notice anything so i let it go. it would notice it happening again, usually when i'm driving around town in stop and go traffic. i took it to the mechanic who told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. this has happened to me soo many times now. i will be driving and their would be no pressure in the clutch, it would go all the way to the floor and all the time i'd have to use my feet to pop it back up. one incident happened when i was parked. i turned my car on and put my foot on clutch, no pressure. usually i could put it in gear, drive it around for 10 mins (popping the clutch back up) the whole time and the pressure would start to come back after a couple drives around the block. this time, i couldn't even put the car in gear. i was stuck for almost 30 mins, trying to pump the clutch, turning the car on and off, doing everything possible. finally i was able to put it in gear and drove it around the block and then straight to the mechanic. who told me nothing. basically he bled system, and so forth and so forth. just yesterday, this happened again while driving in busy street in my city. it is very, very dangerous and as i began to research online, i noticed that others are having the same problems. i don't know how much money i've put into trying to "fix" this problem but their should be a recall for this vehicle. to ensure that no lives are lost or in danger, someone from nissan needs to look into this matter. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling). she called the dealer and was informed that the recall repair would only involve reprogramming the computer, rather than repairing the crankshaft, which really needed to be replaced. the contact's concern was that the recall repair only stalled the failure instead of providing a remedy. on july 10, 2008, the vehicle completely shut down at a stop sign. the vehicle lost total power and no warning lights were illuminated. after waiting two minutes, the vehicle was able to be restarted. when the contact turned off the vehicle to pump gas, it would not restart. the vehicle would also surge occasionally. the current and failure mileages were approximately 64,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving 40mph, the driver engaged the brakes and the vehicle failed to stop. he attempted to engage the emergency brake and the vehicle continued to accelerate. the cruise control was not engaged. there were no warning indicator lights present during, before or after the crash occurred. the contact was unable to stop or gain control of the vehicle. the vehicle crashed into a tree and the vehicle was destroyed. the driver had back injuries in three places. a police report and photos are available. the police report indicated that they observed the driver attempting to stop for two hundred feet. after the vehicle was destroyed, the contact received a recall notice. the recall notice stated that there is a possibility that the engine may stop running while being driven due to the computer and could cause a crash without warning. the current and failure mileages were 31,000.

My wife was going to wendy's. she turned into wendy's parking lot, she went around wendy's to the other side and went to the last parking spot when the car accelerated on its own. car jumped curb and hit a tree. witness said they saw a puff of smoke , there were no tire marks anywhere. almost $ 5000.00 damage. car was taken nissan dealer, but they could not find any thing wrong. i have filed a complaint with nissan. *tr

An existing recall on this vehicle should include the 3.5l engine as well as camshaft/crankshaft and tcm. all cause similar life-threatening symptoms while driving the vehicle suddenly powers completely off briefly losing all power to lights etc, decelerate rapidly and you lose steering control and speed control. vehicles come up on you quickly at night and even if you get the vehicle restarted you have no power in transmission and merely limp on at an idle speed. very very dangerous. why it wasn't included in the original 2007 recall is nissan trying to save a buck. they used the same mfg & same parts as in the 2.5l. they knowingly withheld it from being included. i also contacted them about the tcm. keep in mind the were biting their nails after being presented with a class action suite regarding the defective tcm. luckily for them it was dismissed temporarily. but they never mentioned any similar complaints when they responded to me and never offered any resolution to the problem.

While driving at highway speed the car stalled for a second and then was fine. check engine light came on. next day coming to a stop at light and car stalled again. would not restart took five minutes to start. *ak every time you crank car it take thirty seconds to five minutes to start.

I was slowly pulling into a parking spot in front of my apartment building. as i reached the front of the spot (the end where the front of my car would be), my 2005 nissan altima bucked backward slightly, then suddenly accelerated. the car hit a tree, then continued forward until it stopped in the bedroom of my downstairs neighbor. my foot was on the brake the whole time. i am sure of this, as this is the second time in a year that this has happened to me. the first time, i was pulling into a parking spot in a parking garage, and the car accelerated into a concrete pole. repairs to the auto body (only) were completed, but it seemed as though the engine was downshifting very hard. i had nissan check it out, and was told there was nothing wrong. i am not nuts. i am not senile. i am not elderly (52). i have been driving for 34 yrs. and have had an excellent driving record (until now). the car was bought in december 2004, and in less than 18 months, i have had 2 almost identical accidents (same malfunction; same approach to the parking spot). *nm

Dt: the caller's vehicle was accelerating from a stop light going 10 mph when it stalled. she could not get it started ,and had to have it towed to dealer. the battery light and the brake light came on. when she called the manufacturer, she was told she could drive the vehicle. there was no other indication that this was going to happen. dealer has vehicle now and will call her when they have check it. manufacturer was contacted and will call her back. *ak

Dt: the owner had problems with the car since the day of purchase. in the middle of driving the check engine light comes on, the car stalls. there is no acceleration and the gas pedal does not work. the check engine light does not come on before the stalling begins. this happened three times. the first time this happened the owner thought it ran out of gas. there has never been an accident as a result. the vehicle has been into the repair shop three times, and the repair have been unsuccessful. the dealership replaced the accelerator position sensor, throttle chamber, and air volume learning procedure. the second time the accelerator position sensor was replaced again. the third time the accelerator position sensor and engine control module were replaced. again, this did not appear to have repaired the problem, the owner is not confident with this vehicle. the dealership would not guarantee this would never happen again. *ak

Dt: had the vehicle 3 months and transmission replaced. noticed when driving the vehicle it accelerated, then when letting off the accelerator was pulling back like a rubber band effect. currently, that the transmission been replaced when making a right turn it makes a clanking noise . also, can feel every bump in the road.*ak

Dt: car just stops sometimes and it will not start. consumer almost has to flood the engine before it starts. dealer told consumer she needed to pump the gas 3 times before she started the car. she had vehicle in the repair shop because the car was idling very fast. they put a throttle chamber in it, then it started to do the same thing again . dealer said it was unsafe because it was racing too high; they ordered a new part for the car. it is still doing the same thing. *ak updated 02/07/06. *jb
