Nissan altima 2005. the vehicle had stalled a few times in the past under slow speeds. ie backing up or drifting forward. noticed that the check engine light came on and brought it into a service station. code was crankshaft position sensor. part was really pricey so i checked online and found recall, or so i thought. nhtsa campaign id number: 07v527000, seemed to apply to the problem. nissan said no it did not. would like to file complaint about not only the problem, but also the lack of support in a clearly recalled item repair. i do not have the vin's affected, but the fact that almost 700,000 vehicles are affected and mine just happens to have the same issue is ridiculous. i would just like my car covered like the other 700,000 that have the same issue. *tr thanks, tim

Crankshaft position sensor - the vehicle would have a delay in starting, sometimes would not start at all. also, the engine would shut off while driving at a low speed or stopped. check engine light came on. did internet research. found other owners of nissan altima's had the same problems. brought the car to nissan dealer was told they had alot of complaints about the crankshaft position sensor going bad. had it replaced, the car works fine now. nissan needs to recall this part. when the car shuts off while driving, you loose all power! power steering, brakes, etc. it's an accident waiting to happen. *tr

Car arbitrarily stalled and cut off at low speeds and began to also jerk intermittently as if attempting to shut down while traveling at highway speeds...easily this could lend to a collision!!! service engine soon indicator illuminated on dash and has remained lit. dealer reprogrammed ecm only for stalling and jerking to continue, and service engine soon indicator to re-illuminate within 24-hours of initial "fix." also of note, dealer repairman noted that p0420 was diagnosed stating that the catalyst system is failing and engine may need to be replace depending on oil consumption level to be determined after 1000 miles driven. canadian recall campaign code: r86 calls for p0335 kgb sensor to be replaced by dealer whereas niacin north america's only "corrective" action is for dealers to reprogram the ecma free of charge--which, consequently, does not remedy the problem--and instead attempts to divert the computer from diagnosing the problem--a faulty crankshaft position sensor. catalytic converter failure (and related engine failure) covered per the federal emissions warranty until 80,000 miles. *tr

Timing chain on my 2005 nissan altima is making a buzzing/whining noise at the engine area. this whole process started on wednesday, february 11, 2009 when the nissan service department found the issue and stated that it should be fixed to the amount of $1,578.00 (+tax). they even sent a "cpia - goodwill recommendation" request to which nissan's message back was "goodwill is not recommended". at that time i explained to them that it did not make any sense to me why a timing chain that is meant to outlast the life of the engine would need to be replaced when my vehicle only has 76,717 miles on it. i have always ensured it is well maintained at the intervals recommended and i am a very safe and good driver and keep my vehicle in good working condition, it is not neglected in anyway. they suggested that i phone the nissan customer care line to see if there was anything further that could be done. after 6 phone calls with nissan customer care they too decided that they felt it was out of warranty and not their problem. so i went back to the dealership and received a recommendation to speak with the service manager. i sent him a very detailed email requesting assistance, he stated he'd look into my concerns. unfortunately, he too received the same response that nissan feels they are not obligated in anyway to repair the timing chain on my vehicle because it is out of the warranty period. at this time i plan to pursue this further by contacting the better business bureau and lemon law to see if they can assist in anyway. i believe that it is ridiculous for the consumer to pay the cost of replacing a part that should be replaced by the manufacturer since it is obviously a defective part, since it's designed to out live the life of the engine, last i checked 76,000+ miles on a nissan is not the life of the engine. i hope that nissan will finally realize they are responsible and assist in resolving this matter for me. *tr

Warning light came on "service engine soon", took it to dealer i was told that is the catalyst converter, cost around 800.00, car is a 2005 altima 2.5 with 110,000.00 miles, purchased new and well maintained. was told by nissan worker and also from different people and the internet that this a common problem with this model. it is hard to believe that there is not a recall for this problem, a problem that we could damage the engine. please advise as what can i do. *tr nereyda campos

2005 nissan altima has issues with tires and wheel alignment. consumer states that the customer service is not good with phone calls. *nj the consumer stated she was on her third set of tires at 22,000 miles. the technician stated the vehicle had weak axles and were often mis-aligned at the factory. even with the proper maintenance, the mis-alignment would return. the consumer stated the vehicle would not start. it was later determined that the crank position sensor was the cause. the consumer attempted to install a car seat, but she soon discovered, the rear seat belt did not catch as it should have and it did not recoil when it was not being used. the fan would blow and work in all positions, but the only time it would blow warm or hot air was when the accelerator was in use and running for 10-15 minutes. the windows would defrost on the outside, but not the inside. it would form a thin layer of ice and fog that had to be scraped or wiped with warm water, or it would eventually fade after driving for some time. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact noticed that the vehicle would spontaneously stall and exhibit a no start condition. the dealer stated that her vin was included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling), but she would be responsible for the diagnostic fee, plus the fee for the component because the failure already occurred. the manufacturer did not assist. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 80,000.

Nissan altima equipped with a 2.5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor. dealers will reprogram the electronic control module (ecm) free of charge. the dealer reprogrammed the ecm but now the crankshaft position sensor has gone bad. *tr

My vehicle a 2005 altima isn't starting properly, i brought it to the dealer where i bought it and they said i have a crankshaft sensor failure, this means the car could shutdown at any moment while i'm driving it!!! luckily i didn't cause any major accidents so i called nissan about this problem, they said my car isn't coverage under this recall # 07v527000. shame on nissan!!! i spend $255.45 out of my own pocket to get this problem fixed!!! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the crankshaft position sensor in her vehicle is defective. the vehicle will not start when the ignition is turned and she must wait a couple of minutes for the vehicle to finally start. occasionally, the vehicle will shut off while driving various speeds. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact will check again with the manufacturer to see if the vehicle can be repaired under the warranty and recall. the failure mileage was 53,000.

Service engine soon light came on. two days later, it would not start. replaced a battery but still would not start. had to take to the dealer to replace the crank sensor. *tr

there was a recall r0712. i have seen multiple complaints on the web associated with the crankshaft sensor going out. my check engine light is on and reading error code p0335 is directly associated with r0712 reprogramming. i called nissan and they stated it would cost me $200.00 to fix. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the vehicle lost power and the engine shut off while idling at a stop light. the weather and road conditions were not a factor. the vehicle took approximately 15 seconds to restart with the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle stalled twice in two weeks. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic and they printed out a recall on the crankshaft position sensor. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they reprogrammed the vehicle at the cost of $220. the dealer further stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the failure mileage was 71,413.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima s/sl. the contact stated that when attempting to start the vehicle, the engine warning light was displayed on the instrument control panel, and then the vehicle exhibited a no start condition. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and a technician concluded that she would have to pay $ 255.45 to replace the crankshaft position sensor. the manufacturer was contacted in reference to recall# 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling. upon contact she was advised by a representative that because the vehicle identification number was excluded from the vin range she was ineligible for a free remedy. no repairs were made. the failure mileage was 44,916. the current mileage was 49,000. bl updated 10/13/09. *lj updated 10/15/09.*jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact noticed that the engine warning indicator would consistently illuminate on the instrument panel. he also noticed that the vehicle would drive abnormally slow as if it were not maintaining the proper gear. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling), although the failures were identical. the dealer would not assume any responsibility for the repairs. the vehicle was repaired at the cost of $279. the manufacturer did not assist. the failure mileage was 61,081 and current mileage was 61,600. updated 3/16/09 *cn the crankshaft sensor was replaced. updated 03/20/09. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving approximately 45 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle hesitated excessively when pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal. the engine warning indicator illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and they reset the computerized system. on a separate occasion, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for identical failures. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling), although the failures were identical. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 70,000.

The service engine soon light came on sporadically and then consistent with every time my car was started. the cause was a result of the crank sensor, which was recalled by nissan, which included my 2005 altima. however, after taking my car to the dealership, i was told my model was not recalled, however, it is the same problem and model as the cars that were recalled by nissan north america, inc. *tr

Service engine soon diagnosis: premature failure of catalytic converter and crankshaft sensor on 2005 nissan altima leading to possible engine stalling & failure at 82,000 miles. neither the dealer nor nissan regional specialist offered me any deals to offset costs of repairs. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle stopped running. the check engine warning indicator immediately illuminated on the instrument panel. the warning indicator remained lit until the engine was turned off. after several attempts, the engine restarted. the vehicle hesitated excessively when accelerating. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated that the crankshaft sensor and electronic control module failed. the technician discovered nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact was advised to have the crankshaft senor repaired prior to the recall. the vehicle has not been repaired. the contact was displeased to learn that the crankshaft sensor defect was not included in the recall remedy. the failure mileage was 74,000 and current mileage was 74,400.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle completely shut off. the vehicle coasted down a hill. the contact shifted into park and restarted the vehicle. a few days later, the failure recurred. the most recent occurrence was on november 26, 2008, in which the contact had to make several attempts to restart the vehicle. once the vehicle was started, it shut off again. when the vehicle restarted, the check engine indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. he took the vehicle to the dealer and stated that he received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling). the dealer informed the contact that he would have to pay $250 to repair the issue because the failure had little to do with the recall. he chose not to have it repaired at the time; however, he paid $80 to get his vehicle back from the dealer. the manufacturer had not been notified. the current mileage was 74,157 and failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact stated that the vehicle would stall intermittently with the illumination of the check engine light. the vehicle would restart almost immediately on most occasions. the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the transmission and engine were replaced. the vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where the entire computer was replaced yet the failure recurred. the contact believed the failure to be associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling) but received no assistance from the manufacturer. the contact did not confirm if the vin was included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 108,000 and the current mileage was approximately 216,000.

I rec'd letter stating 05 nissan altima are being recalled. i took vehicle in to dealership (north texas nissan in corinth, tx). they fixed it and stated everything was okay. couple days later car just cut off on me at redlight and while i was driving. check engine light came on took it back to dealership they said they couldn't help me and to make an appt. and bring in monday. i did, came in at 9 am, service advisor told me it would cost $98 for diagnostic test. it came back stating it was crank and cam shaft sensor. nissan corp. want pay for it; stating our vehicle wasn't the vin #s that were recalled. so we have to pay for the sensors. i will never but another nissan again. nissan corp weren't apologetic, couldn't ans. my questions. something needs to be done this. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact observed a news report for nissan recalls and called the manufacturer. he was informed of nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling) and the vehicle was repaired. while attempting to make a right turn from a traffic light, the vehicle stalled at 25 mph. the vehicle was able to be restarted; however, the check engine indicator illuminated and the engine continued to idle rapidly. the vehicle has stalled several times since the recall repairs were performed and have since worsened. the contact also had supporting documentation of the failures. the failure mileage was 44,691 and current mileage was 60,607. updated 12/11/08. *lj updated 12/11/08. *jb

Check engine light will come on and cause the car to stall as well as cut off and will have a hard time restarting. the ride becomes very rough and the car is noisy. i was told that this problem is common with nissans and that nissan is aware of the engine failures and excessive oil consumption. *tr

In june of 2008, i received a notice in the mail regarding a recall on the engine cooling of the 2005 nissan altima 2.5l engine. i took my car in the to local nissan dealership in lubbock, tx and the issue was supposedly corrected. i had never had any issues with my car until after this repair was done. i went to pick up my car and right afterwards my check engine light came on and has remained on since then. i called over to the dealership and was advised that it was ok for the service engine light to be on and not to worry about it. soon afterward my car began to have trouble cranking. i would go several days without wanting to crank at all and also it would take a while to turn over if it was cranking. about two days ago my car would not crank once again. i let the car sit until the next day and attempted to crank it again. the car still would not crank. i got the car towed back to the nissan dealership and was advised that the issue was, as others previously stated, the crankshaft and camshaft that needed to be replaced. asked if the crankshaft would be my responsibility and was advised that it was because the crankshaft was "mentioned" in the recall but not specifically covered to be repaired by the recall. i was advised that those two repairs will be $208.00 to repair plus taxes and that there was no way to repair it free because it was not specifically stated that these issues would be free under the recall. i called the nissan usa number and asked for a resolve. i asked for the repairs to be paid by them because the recall was supposed to prevent this very problem from occurring however instead of preventing the problem, the repairs caused the problem to start. they refused to pay for the fees and told me that i would need to pay the bill and then submit the bill to them for research to see if they could do anything about reimbursement. the fee should not be my responsibility because nissan refuses to take ownership of the problem. *tr

I have an altima 2005, several months ago i received a letter saying that all certain models that came out of the company, came with an affect on the engine. before i receive the letter by then i already had by car taken to fix it, so i paid. now on this month september 16, 2008 i went to the service department and first i did not like the way they attended me, second they wanted me to charge me 100 dollars just to check if it was the problem that said in the paper and if it was. it was going to be free or otherwise if it came with something else that's when they were going to charge me with that amount. now my complain is why am i going to pay 100 . if it was not my fault that it was the manufacture of the car. i did not paid 25 grand. for nothing. now i would like that problem to be fix without charge because it's not my fault that the car, came out with a problem from the company. please answer to my complain and help that i need to get this fix, but without charge. thank you! *tr

My 2005 nissan altima started stalling at low speeds and the engine began jumping at acceleration. apparently, i had a recall on the crankshaft sensor. i took the car into thornhill nissan in fort worth, texas and they said they would reprogram the ecm. the next day the sel came on and the car started all over again with its problems. when i called dalene vasquez at thornhill nissan she stated that the sensor was not part of the recall and that it would cost me $200 to replace. through my own independent research i find that this has been a known problem since their 2002 models and they won't replace the $40 sensor. *tr

I received a recall notice for my 2005 nissan altima. it warned of serious problems that might arise from a defect that makes the engine possibly shut off while driving. i had it fixed several weeks ago, but check engine light remained on and car otherwise was hiccuping in traffic. i returned today, and they charged me $250!! for fixing something called a crankshaft sensor. such sensor was, as i understand it, part of the recall problem. yet, it has been explained to me that even though this recall is related to the sensor issue, replacing the sensor itself is not considered part of what is covered by the recall. if that's the case, i don't get the point of the recall. it obviously is more about money making and/or saving face without paying to fix a dangerous problem. i have seen others with these same complaints on line. i'd just like to add my complaint to the many others so that something might be done. *tr

Recall notice on resetting a ecm unit because crankshaft sensor could shutoff car while driving. my crankshaft sensor was bad, i had it replaced because the check engine light came on. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling). she consulted the dealer and took the vehicle in for repair. the dealer replaced the ecm module as the recall remedy. a few days after the repair, she noticed that it was difficult to accelerate. the failure occurred mostly on the freeway. the dealer advised her to bring the vehicle back in for inspection. the manufacturer was not notified. the current mileage was 45,030 and failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

My car was running fine until i got in my car one day and it would barely crank. it took it a minute, but it finally did. that happened several times. then, while driving to work, my car shut off in the middle of the highway, while driving. this is extremely scary and i am not understanding why this is happening. my local nissan dealership will not look at it because my check engine light is on. well, my light didn't come on until this started happening. what is happening to my car fits the description of the recall to a tee. i have gone to a mechanic shop and they have told me that being what is wrong with my car will make the check engine light come on. my complaint is that the dealership will not look at it or fix it because of the check engine light. this needs to be fixed and hopefully soon. i carry young children in my car and its the only mean of transportation i have. i don't need something to happen while doing this. thank you for your time. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle would shut down without warning. the contact took the vehicle to the repair shop and they discovered that the oxygen sensor failed. the oxygen sensor was replaced; however, the vehicle continued to shut off. on august 1, 2008, the vehicle would not accelerate in traffic and was rear ended. the contact's vehicle was pushed into the preceding vehicle. the contact and three passengers received minor injuries. she received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling) two weeks after the crash. the insurance company did not investigate. a report was filed with the manufacturer. the failure and current mileages were 103,000. updated 03/24/09.*lj updated 03/24/09.*jb

This summer, i visited crown nissan in hoover, alabama to address problems i was having with my car. specifically, my 'service engine soon' light came on while i was driving, after my car tried repeatedly to stall. (this had happened several times before, without the light coming on.) while there, i was told my car was subject to a recall, the fixing of which was designed to prevent that very problem. the next day, i was driving my car and it stalled out (without the light coming on), and i immediately called crown's service department again. i was told that this was a common problem when the recall did not address the stalling, and it was usually the cam and crankshaft positioning sensor. i asked why nissan usa did not recall the cam and crankshaft positioning sensor, if this was a common problem. i was told they had no say in that. so i called nissan usa, alerted them to the problem, and asked that they open up a file for me, as i thought they should recall the cam sensor, if it turned out to be the problem. after subsequent research, i discovered that the cam /crank shaft positioning sensor was recalled in certain 2002-2003 altimas. finally, my car kept stalling until the light came on again. i took it to a different nissan dealership (due to other issues with crown). it was there i was told that the cam/crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. when asked if this was customary, i was told this was a common problem with altimas like mine, for which the recall failed to prevent the problem. again, i asked why this cam/crankshaft position sensor was not recalled. this is a very dangerous problem to have on the road. i was told to take it up with nissan usa. i called nissan usa and requested a refund, and asked that they recall the part. my case was assigned to a field rep, who has never called me. after no response to my calls, i sent a letter demanding a refund and a recall. no response. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle shut off in the middle of the road. the contact waited a few minutes before restarting the vehicle and drove to her residence. the following day, while on the way to the dealer, the vehicle shut off again. she waited awhile, restarted the vehicle, and continued to the dealer. the dealer stated that the crank sensors needed to be replaced because they were not on recall. the contact paid $482 for the vehicle to be repaired. the failure and current mileages were 52,949. updated 09/24/08. *lj the consumer stated she received a recall notice in the mail and is seeking reimbursement. updated 10/01/08. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact received a recall notice for the crankshaft position sensor. she did not call the dealer until the failure occurred. while driving less than 10 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off. the contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove to the dealer. she was informed that the crankshaft position sensor failed and the dealer could not reprogram the ecm. because the failure already occurred, the dealer could not repair or replace the sensor under the recall. the recall number was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 70,000.

My 2005 nissan altima goes dead in traffic, often. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. on july 14, 2008, the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling). while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle completely shut off and lost total power. the check engine and battery lights illuminated prior to the failure. the vehicle would not restart. the contact activated the hazard lights and attempted to shift into neutral, but it appeared to lock into the park position. the vehicle finally restarted after being shut off for a while. the dealer advised the contact to come in next week for a recall repair, which was believed to be the cause of the failure. the current and failure mileages were approximately 45,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling). she called the dealer and was informed that the recall repair would only involve reprogramming the computer, rather than repairing the crankshaft, which really needed to be replaced. the contact's concern was that the recall repair only stalled the failure instead of providing a remedy. on july 10, 2008, the vehicle completely shut down at a stop sign. the vehicle lost total power and no warning lights were illuminated. after waiting two minutes, the vehicle was able to be restarted. when the contact turned off the vehicle to pump gas, it would not restart. the vehicle would also surge occasionally. the current and failure mileages were approximately 64,000.

I have a 2005 nissan altima. my car shuts off without warning and it is very dangerous to drive. i have not been injured yet ,but it could still happen. i had the computer reprogrammed as defined in the recall information, but the car is still behaving badly. i am terrified to drive and i work 30 minutes away from my home. the ride to work is dangerous and my car's engine problem could cause an accident. nissan refused to correct the problems other than reprogramming the computer which had no real impact on the problem. i have replaced the part that was described by a diagnostic test as faulty and there is still a problem. nissan should be held responsible for putting people's lives in danger. this must stop. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle shut down and the service engine warning light illuminated afterwards. the contact was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the electronic control module failed. the dealer reprogrammed the electronic control module. the engine light illuminated again after the reprogramming of the electronic control module. the manufacturer stated that the crank shaft position sensor caused the engine light to remain lit. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v527000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact would be responsible for the crank shaft position sensor repair. the failure mileage was 52,300 and current mileage is 52500. updated 09/16/08. *lj updated 09/17/08. *jb

The "check engine soon" light came on my vehicle on monday so i contacted the nissan dealership and made an appointment, at which time they told me it would cost $99 to do a diagnostic test. on wednesday, i received in the mail a recall notice on the vehicle that had to do with the engine. on thursday i contacted the dealer and they stated that they would have to perform the diagnostic test for $99 first and then do the recall inspection because it did not have anything to do with the engine light being on. however, it seems that since the recall is free, they should do that first and then perhaps that actually is the problem. i feel that the recall, having to do with the engine, might be the cause of the light turning on. i like having my vehicle serviced at the dealer where i purchased it, but feel they are not being forthright about the recall situation. *tr

Before i got the recall letter from nissan about my computer chip, my car would die while it was running, it was hard to start it, and i kept having this crankshaft sensor problem i had to replaced it twice already, i finally got my computer reprogrammed today july 1st 2008.. came back home and thought everything was okay.. and what do i know it comes on again my service engine light... took it to the auto shop said it was my crankshaft again...i had to replace 2 crankshafts on the same week.. and now i have to replace it again... i was reading people's forums about how they were have the same problems before and after the recall reprogramming.... we're all have the crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor problems... but nissan is going to charge us alot of money to get it replaced... i heard it's been a problem ever since 2002 so why hasn't it gotten fixed? we shouldn't be paying for another defect that it seems like no one wants to admit to or even take a look into it at least....anyways does it need to take a person to die or to be injured in order for this problem to be fixed..... that's just not right.... thank you *tr

My vehicle was involved in a collision. the driver stated that the brakes weren't working and the car seemed to have shut off prior to impact. rear ended another vehicle. vehicle deemed a total loss. accident occurred on june 14th. received a recall notice on june 18 concerning the electronic control module and the vehicle could shut off and this cause an accident. this is what happened and because i was not aware of the recall the insurance payoff does not even cover the loan. i feel that nissan was negligent because they sent this recall 7 months too late. i am currently without a vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact received a recall notice from nissan for the engine and engine cooling:engine. when he called the dealer from where the vehicle was purchased, he learned that they had been bought out by another dealer. he did not attempt to call another dealer to see if they could perform the recall repair. there had been no failure to date. the recall number was unknown.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. there is an open recall on this vehicle, and, although the contact's vehicle was experiencing identical failures as listed in the recall, the vin was not included. when she attempted to start the vehicle, the engine would not turn over. the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and the mechanic stated that the camshaft sensor needed to be replaced. in july of 2008, the crankshaft sensor was replaced at an authorized dealer. the vehicle is in the process of being serviced. the vin and recall number were unknown. the current and failure mileages were 52,000.

I had a recall on a part on my 2005 altima and had it 'fixed' at the dealer in february. i drove it out of town for a holiday weekend, and it proceeded to die on five (5) occasions over two (2) days while i was driving it. the problem had no predicted onset, and the 'service engine soon' light did not come on until after it died the first time. i had to pay $240 to get it fixed (when it should have already been fixed). *tr

i recently took my 2005 nissan altima to a local dealership for a tsb. the car was stalling at low speed. the tsb said the crank sensor would overheat and would not allow the ecm to read the sensor. the dealership reprogrammed the ecm, but told me i had to buy a new sensor, which i did. i believe the problem is created by the design/positioning of the sensor, causing it to overheat. i feel nissan is charging to make repairs on a tsb at the expense of nissan owners. *tr
