Car shut down while driving. there was a recall to reset the ecm that was causing this problem. i was unaware of this recall but now learn that if i had brought my car in to have the system reset i would not have been out any money. but now that the problem has arisen and the car shut down on me, this caused the "check engine light" to come on. now i must pay to have the sensor replaced not just reset. *tr
2004 nissan altima 2.5 shuts off on me while i'm driving or parked at a stop light. i had the car taken last year for a ecm reprogram recall last year. now i've heard that certain years models are having the same problem 2005, 2006, possibly a crankshaft sensor. i searched for a recall for my particular car and i have not find one. any suggestions? *tr
I was driving my girlfriends 2004 nissan altima 2.5 down the highway on 2/15/2008 when the transmission down shifted and then directly upshifted hard. i got to my destination and tried to restart the car when i left it cranked longer than usually, in fact unusually long but it did start up. i got back on the highway to go home and while getting on the on ramp to the highway the car shut off and the steering wheel locked up and the service engine soon light came on. i did what i could to get the car to the shoulder and waiting a couple of minutes and tried to restart the car. i did get it restarted and took city streets to autozone to have the codes read from the service engine soon light. i had 2 codes, one being p0725 and p0355. i once again took city streets home to avoid the same thing happening going 70mph. i got it home that friday the 15th and put it in the garage. i got online and went to nissanclub.com and researched the problem. i found out that the p0335 is the crank position sensor malfunction and that caused my code of p0725 being the engine speed sensor. through researching this is a very big problems with the 2002-2006 altimas, mainly the 2.5 4cylinders. nissan issued a recall for the 2002-2005 and 2006 altimas but failed to include the 2003 and 2004 in it. now why would they not put the same faulty sensors in the 2003's and 2004's and skip ahead and put them in the 05's and 06's. i went to the dealership on monday the 18th to verify her car was not included in the recall and it wasn't. this is nissans deliberate attempt to not take full responsibility for the faulty crankshaft position sensors put in the 2002-2006 altimas. i paid for the $30.00 sensor, also another $30 sensor that is recommended replaced with the crankshaft sensor and spent 3 1/2 hours outta my day to replace the hard to get sensor. it is my belief that nissan needs to include the 2003 and 2004 altimas in the recall with the 2002-05, 06. *tr
On 2/5/08 we started our 2004 nissan altima and had no power steering. upon observation the serpentine belt was not turning. we had the car towed to the mechanic and found that the bolt on the main pulley on the crankshaft had fallen out and the pulley had fallen off of the crankshaft. had this occurred while driving down the interstate at 65mph, the results could have been horrific possibly leading to fatalities. *tr

Nissan altima 2004. has around 91,000 miles. transmission jerk a little, like it was jumping into gear. car shut off with no warning while going down a hill. i was able to put the car in neutral while coasting and restart the car. three days later the engine shuts off again. the vehicle was at a light. this time it took several tries to start the vehicle. at a busy intersection it stopped again the same day but was able to restart. i took the car to a dealership (car is in germany due to military). they told me they would call me back. i have not received a call. i called nissan north america and i was told that the car falls under 2 recalls. both the valve screws and the sensor. i may end up having to pay for it all even though nna says they "should" handle it here. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan altima. the contact stated that although the engine module was reprogrammed, the vehicle still stalls. the crank position sensor was faulty. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. the failure also occurs when the brake pedal is depressed. the vehicle must reprogram itself before it can be restarted. the contact received a recall notice from nissan and took the vehicle to the dealer for repair; however, the failure still persists. the recall number was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 60,000.
One month ago i was driving on the expressway when my car, that had never given me anything but usual minor problems, suddenly stopped while running at low speed. i panicked, but managed to pull over before it completely stopped running. i managed to turned it on once more but it was not running the same. it appeared it was going to shut off when slowing down again. it did. fortunately no one was hurt. i immediately took it to the dealer who explained there was a problem with the sensor. they could only recap a sensor but would need more extensive and expensive work to see if there was anything wrong with the computer. two days later, i learned of a manufacture?s recall for my make of car. it was a sensor problem that made the engine shut off when driving at low speeds. i concluded my car had to among those recalled. now i learned, the year of my car is not included, but the years surrounding are. *tr

On 10/9/2007 i took the vehicle into sheehy nissan to have it repaired for the known recalls. on 10/11/2007 i retrieved my vehicle for sheehy nissan and was told by alan shurkin the issue with the ecm reprogramming had been corrected. about 20 mins after leaving sheehy nissan lot my car again stalled and stopped running. on 10/14/2007 i called alan shurkin @ sheehy nissan and told him that my vehicle was having the same problem and i thought that it was due to the recall i was told by alan that it would be a service charge to repair it again. i have been driving this vehicle for about three weeks now with the consist stop and go routine. i was advised by a friend to call nissan north america back letting them know what my problem was. on 11/6/2007 i placed a call to nissan north america. i expressed my concerns with the rep who took my call she did a little research and stated to me that it seemed the issue i was still having was pertaining to the recall for the ecm and that she need to forward me to a regional research rep. i was forwarding to the regional research rep who stated to me that they had to look in to the problem further and that someone would be in contact with me within 24 hours. *tr

My vehicle started to have a hard shift while i was riding down the beltway. the car would shift so hard that it felt like someone had hit my car from behind. approximately two weeks later the "service engine soon" light came on. i took it to sheehy nissan of waldorf and had the car repaired. that cost me around $170.00. about two weeks later the hard shifts were back. one and a half months later my "service engine light" comes back on and this time my car will not start. i was literally stuck until i was informed that eventually the computer will click and let the car start. i eventually got the car to start and took it to the nissan dealer. i was informed that the crankshaft position sensor was bad. i have to pay another $230.00. to get my car back. the problem is that they have recalled this same problem on the 2002 and the 2003 nissan altima but not on the 2004. *jb
2004 nissan altima 2.5 had severe missing issue and dealer advised that it was an issue with the screws of the power ring on the intake manifold. the screw had came loose and damaged the intake manifold. nissan has voluntary service campaign qr25de power valve ( p5202) for this issue. my car has the exact issue and the year and engine size is the same. the vin number of my car is within the posted vin's of this campaign - however they now say the "campaign" is vin specific, and you guessed it - my vin isn't on their list. $700.00 later the dealer won't pay, nissan america refuses to honor the fix listed in their own campaign this is a known design flaw issue, same car, same engine size, within the vin numbers listed. no relief. they also replaced all the screws with "upgraded screws" and lock each screw. the internet is filled with this issue and others with no assistance. please make this a recall !*jb

In the summer of 2007 my car was stalling when coming to a complete stop or when slowing down. i brought my car into nissan dealership and they advised the problem i was having is part of a recall and reprogrammed the ecm. the night i picked my car up i was still having the stalling issue. i brought the car back into the dealer and they replaced the camshaft sensor. i would like to make the complaint that 1) i never received a recall notice for the ecm. 2) my car stalled in oncoming traffic luckily not involved in a crash. 3)why was this problem not found when i originally brought the car in to be fixed 4) knowing this is an ongoing issue with both the crankshaft and camshaft sensor in nissans why is the camshaft not covered under a recall campaign. 5) it cost me almost $300 to replace a part that cost less than $40. *tr

I own a 2004 nissan altima, in april 07 i experienced the service engine light coming on and i took it to a dealer and paid to have the crank sensor replaced. i subsequently received a recall letter for the same problem and contacted nissan where i was told that i was eligible for a reimbursement. after faxing all the relevant information, i was told after waiting 3 months that i was denied a reimbursement because the recall time had lapsed. i don't think i was treated fairly as nowhere in the recall letter it stated any expiration date. i do believe i am due a reimbursement. i would appreciate your looking into this matter. thanks much yvette buckland *tr

To whom it may concern at nhtsa: i own a 2004 nissan altima with a 2.5l engine. i recently received an owner notification letter from nissan north america for a safety recall due to the potential that the engine might stop running while being driven due to an electrical problem between the crank angle sensor and the electronic control module (ecm). this could result in a crash without warning. *ak the notice further advised that my nissan dealer would reprogram the ecm, free of charge. this service should take about 1 hour to complete. i made arrangements with my dealer to have this service performed on my altima. while in for this service, i was called by the dealer and notified that several unrelated service items were found. they did not force them on me but did they did take the opportunity to 'sell' them....better gas mileage (clean throttles) and brake performance (replace brake fluid). well, the free service to 'reprogram' the ecm, turned into a service bill in the $450.00 range. the list cost to reprogram the ecm was $58.00. so, i avoided a $58 charge but was 'sold' additional services so nissan actually generated close to $400 in revenue on a 'free' recall. the nhtsa recall number is 06v-242. it occurred to me that if 100,000 other concerned altima owners responded to the recall, were 'sold' similar 'needed' service, nissan would collect $40,000,000 in service fees.....a minor reprogramming recall could turn into a large profit generating machine. i wanted to share my situation with you because this simple scheme, if indeed employed, would take advantage of the public and make publicly-owned corporations like nissan a profit windfall. i can be reached at [xxx]or [xxx] if you would like to contact me or discuss this situation further. thank you for your careful consideration. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
2004 nissan altima, 43k miles. had recall on a similar sounding situation (car can stall at low speeds due to a temperature sensor malfunction, but dealer claimed that the cam and crank sensors needed to be replaced...car stalled in the parking lot and middle of the road, 2 times each. extremely dangerous and unacceptable. *jb

Car wouldn't start on several occasions in early 2007 (february timeframe). i brought the vehicle into a nissan dealership. they said there was a recall and the ecm needed to be reprogrammed. after that was done, i brought it back in 2 days later and they said the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. i paid them to replace it ($152.07) and the issue of not starting has not since reappeared. i have since found that recalls for this make/model have been issued for model years 2003, 2005 and 2006 of the altima to have their crankshaft position censors replaced, but not for 2004 altima. *tr

My husband and i were driving when the car started to jerk and run very rough. not long after that the check engine light came on and it just shut off right in the middle of traffic. aaa towed the car to cerritos nissan. the next day they looked it over and said it was a chamber and a mass air filter and injector a. they gave us the total of $1384. we had no choice i needed my car, so we told them to fix it. when we went to pick the car up,we paid our bill, i drove off and it started doing the same exact thing. we took the car back and the head of service was there. my husband tried to explain to him but he was not understanding. my husband ask if he would go on a test drive with him. my husband asked him to drive. when they came back, my husband said not only was it doing the same thing but it cut off on them as well. the service manager said he would write a note about what it was still doing. we had just begrudgingly forked out nearly $1400 and the car was doing the same exact thing. we were upset and wanted to know what did they fix? he assured us that they would fix it. he asked us what we wanted him to do. my husband said that we just needed a rental. he agreed and set us up with one. finally we were able to pick the car up and while it still ran a bit rough it didn't jerk and it didn't cut off. we ask what was wrong with it and they said it was something with the engine 9500 int and enterprise inv d907447 po 151165. so we asked why we were charged for all that other stuff. he said cause it still needed it. and at this time we also had asked about recalls. they said there were none. ironically in going through our old a few months later mail we found a safety recall notice that talk about everything that my car did. we notified our lawyer and ask if we should proceed and he told us to first report it and see what happens. although i really like my altima i have had to ...
