Problems with 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 49 486 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

I bought my vehicle towards the end of october with less than 40000 miles and i keep encountering an acceleration issue and high engine rpm, the issues periodically 'resolve' them self only to come back a little further down the road, the issues i encounter aren't exactly the same but i think they are very closely related/connected to each other; accelerating from low speed (0-30): i tend to notice an acceleration problem around 0-30 mph where i have my foot on the gas pedal and the vehicle is moving and is accelerating, acceleration is very, very slow and it feels as though something in/on my vehicle is giving what i can only describe as 'resistance' to accelerate, the feeling is very weird and i have never felt anything quite like it and i lack the vocabulary to truly explain what the issue feels like but i do know for certain that something is wrong. high engine speeds during 0-~60 mph acceleration: when i need to accelerate to merge into traffic going 45-65 mph (accelerating from 0-30 mph range) my engine speed approaches 6000 rpm but never enters the red area behind the gauge, i often need to accelerate from the 0-30 mph range to 45-65 mph range to jump onto a highway or freeway and my engine speeds get much higher than anything i have ever experienced before. i suspect the automatic shifting mechanism is broken or is made poorly. i have brought my vehicle into a genuine mitsubishi dealership and had them run a complete diagnostic, even a diagnostic on my transmission with everything coming back fine. i honestly don't even know what the issue is but i have documents verifying that nothing is wrong with my vehicle but no diagnosis, however i was told that my fluid was good for another year, the transmission might still be "learning' my driving style, and my vehicle has a brake 'priming' system that helps stop your vehicle in heavy traffic.

While driving on the highway, the transmission started to fail. this issues occurred overnight!

This is the 4th time i will be replacing my transmission. it jerks and then fails. i cannot change shifts, it takes about a minute then it will move. i have complained to mitsubishi and they told me there was a recall on the whole transmission, i also work at a dealer and know there is a recall. this time when i called and asked them to buy it back as a lemon, they are now telling me there has never been a recall on the transmission. i can keep replacing my transmission every 4k miles and risking my life if it fails on the freeway that i take everyday fr work.

My car had had 3 transmissions replaced i'm the past year. it will be going in for it's fourth transmission. it has 54,0000 miles on it. the car would t move and i almost got hit in the rear on a major highway in ohio.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 mitsubishi outlander sport. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle jerked and would not shift gears. also, the transmission indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to luther brookdale mitsubishi (7235 brooklyn blvd, suite b, brooklyn center, mn 55429, (844) 242-5989) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.

Transmission hesitates while driving, then it jumps. when it jumps it surges. we thought it was the transmission. our son said it maybe the relay switch to do with the cvt engine. it is setting in th driveway .

I was told my entire transmission was under recall but mittsubishi of orange park in jacksonville florida and that it needed to be replaced. i am now being told that they will not fix because i am 2nd owner and because of milage. i have put about 80000 miles on k. original owner put 43000 miles on car. i was unaware that there were any recalls on vehicle when i purchased it and would not have if had known. as well as that i received no notification from mittsubishi in my 3 years of owning vehicle to bring vehicle to repair recalls . vehicle will suddunley stop in traffic will not accelarate or just turns off in the middle of turning .

The transmission jerks when you change from driving in reverse to drive. the rear passenger wheel feels loose after going over minor bumps.

Takata recall- while driving down the road its like the transmission is slipping it reves up the engine rpm up and down

The powertrain / automatic transmission control module cooling unit and lines and the tcm/pcm are causing the transmission to shift many times going on flat road or climbing a grade the transmission shifts' erractic. nhtsa recall on this vehicle on 7/22/2016 / 7/28/2016 / 7/28/2016 and the dealership states that this vehicle is out of warranty. please help

I was driving on a highway when the transmission started feeling like it was slipping. i pulled over checked all the fluids and everything was fine. i was miles from the nearest town. so i started driving again and 2 miles down the road the transmission light came on. when this happened the car stopped accelerating and started revving up. i turned the hazard on and pulled off onto the side of a busy highway. i tried to accelerate again and the engine reved again. i turned the car off and started it again the transmission light went off. i put the car in reverse and was able to back up to get further over off the road. i tried to put it in drive and the car wouldn't move but the light remained off. i called a tow truck and had to have it towed to a safe location. i took it to a dealer ship and they claimed it was the cvt and it was internal. i would have to have to whole unit replaced. they quoted me around 7,000. my brother-in-law called to get more info and they quoted him around 4,000. there are 108,000 miles on my 2015. so it's over warranty and i felt like they were trying to rip me off. i have seen similar recalls for this type of thing happening. i am concerned for the safety of myself and others with this happening out of nowhere.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 mitsubishi outlander sport. while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle shuddered when the accelerator pedal was depressed. also, the check transmission warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to jeff d'ambrosio mitsubishi downingtown (1223 e lancaster ave, downingtown, pa 19335, (484) 593-5000) and was awaiting diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 48,000.

During initial acceleration from a standstill, or when accelerating again after either constant speed operation or coasting the transmission will delay in the vehicle accelerating. while at 60-65 mph the vehicle will fluctuate in rpm and try to accelerate on its own. the service transmission light came on and the check engine light has been going off and on since the vehicle was purchased in october 2017. when bringing it in for service dealer says there is nothing wrong. i went to autozone when the check engine light went on and it is stating the catalytic converter bank 1 has issues. so when i parked it this morning 4-24-18 because of the light going one for the transmission, i tried starting it and it started but hesitated and then all the check engine lights went off. i believe there is something up with the ecu too. i know there are recalls for 2015 outlander sports but why not mine when i am having the same issues. thank you

My 2015 mitsubishi outlander sport developed transmission problem and warning light came on including engine service light. it only has 34173 miles on it. i researched that it had a recall for a defective transmission hose assembly but mitsubishi no longer lists the recall. i would like to see that my vehicle gets repaired as the manufacturing date of the vehicle falls in the time when this issue was not detected during assembly.

Ongoing problems with this vehicle. bought new 9/2015. treated appallingly at pos. unreliable instrument panel kept showing a p0017 code at 15k, would not clear. took to dealer for $450 29k service, check engine light stayed on after this for long period of time then off. car "passed" all checks at different dealer but they said "timing chain" looked loose in 4/2017 they said we could replace the chain, cam and crank shaft and sensors at our expense for 4k on a new car. they blamed us for "improper maintenance" due to dirty oil. they cancelled warranty on entire vehicle. cose would go off, then on periodically, 0017 again. car drove fine until recently, car then stalled while in motion through intersection in rush hour, seized up 42k miles. dealer refused tow as dealership more than 21 miles dishonored roadside service. our aaa took to mechanic near home who does japanese cars, timing chain broke dx $150. dealer refused to honor warranty. charged to rediagnose, had to tow back to dealer $150 diagnosis again, timing chain broke, entire engine needs replacing. car died in intersection, was almost killed. denied warranty coverage. 7 recalls on this vehicle so far, one is stalling like we said!!!! dangerous car, do not buy! please recall engine is bad, dealer asking 10k to replace! seattle mitsubishi pierre. car burned oil quick it seems, even synthetic. this is a pattern, must recall entire engine on these vehicles, people will die.

When driving my car is hesitant and it jerks you when pressure is applied to the gas pedal.

The cvt transmission went completely out. this vehicle is only 2 years old and we were in the middle of no where new mexico. we were driving, no problems and then all of the sudden it said stop the vehicle transmission overheat. we immediately pulled over. ended up having the vehicle transported back home to texas and was told the warranty had just ran out. we missed it by 3,000 miles. ended up spending over $6,000.00 on a new transmission and it is still not running right. i thought i had researched this type of vehicle before purchasing it, apparently not. now i'm scared to take it on road trips. only drive to and from work.

After coming to a complete stop at multiple stop lights, and trying to accelerate again, the car failed to accelerate. the rpms did not move, nor did the engine sound like it was accelerating.

One day my truck just starting losing power in the middle of driving on the highway. i pulled over and restarted the car. it started but wasn't was stalling. i got to safety. brought transmission fluid and put in it. it helped me get home. called dealership next date car still under warranty. was told that i put wrong fluid so the warranty is invalid. had arbitrator found no manufacturing issue even though two recalls on my vehicle and one specifically states what happened to my truck is due to this recall. truck loses power frequently. afraid to drive it, but gave no choice.

2/5, noticed my vehicle was losing power while driving....thought it was the transmission...all dealerships was closed...i had to put fluid in the vehicle to get home...called dealership early monday morning, told them my problem...was given earliest days on tuesday morning. took vehicle in and called later that day and told because of the 1 qt of transmission fluid i used, which i was told was the wro6kind...they couldn't fix my vehicle even though there is a recall on my vehicle th at causes the transmission to lose power which it did...no one is offering a solution...i keep being told that because i put the wrong type of fluid, that made the warranty invalid i would not had to put the fluid in the vehicle had it been performing properly. never was notified of recall, found this put when i took the vehicle to dealership and research

My car had the safety recall fixed, the computer for the slow acceleration. since then, the shifting has been off. anytime you speed up, the rpm's go very high until you let your foot off the gas. it sounds like the engine/transmission is going to explode. i've tried to have the dealer fix, they can't find anything wrong with it. mitsubishi says the dealer told them there is nothing wrong. so, it's just supposed to run at a high rpm anytime i speed up? will that not cause damage? this has been an ongoing problem.

I purchased my 2015 outlander sport suv after owning a montero sport and loving it for over 12 years. i noticed within a month that when i would start off from a stoplight, my automatic transmission would jump like it was a manual transmission. during this jump, my suv would slow down and not accelerate. when it did kick in, it would jerk me forward. i now understand that their are many experiencing this same issue and have a repair appointment in 2 days. i sure hope this repair takes care of the issue or the nhtsa will take steps to insure that consumers are safe driving on our usa roads. *tr

09/02/2016... took my vehicle to the dealer to perform service for a recall about the outlander hesitating at slow speeds and when accelerating from a stop. i am still experiencing the problem. i asked the dealer after the service, did that fix the problem. he said i hope so, i don't know what else to do. please look into this. i would like to know that when i need my car to go......it will go!!

While driving and braking, i notice a hesitation, sometimes to slow and sometimes a burst of speed. this is usually starting out or trying to slow or stop. i also at the same time notice sometimes maybe hitting brakes leads to this. not sure if power train or electrical but very concerned. also, i had a friend that had a 2015 outlander and the airbags did not execute at 50 mph accident. this is a very high concern. i checked vin but did not see anything.

While driving during acceleration after i have stopped or slowed down the vehicle loses power and jerks and jumps before i can accelerate again. this issue is intermittent and i have taken it to the dealer but it didn't happen while they were test driving it and told me everything was fine. this mainly happens while trying to go through intersections and i am very concerned that it will cause a accident. i just bought this vehicle a week ago with only 17,000 miles on it.

When trying to pull away from stop vehicle just stops engine still running it just wont go. vehicle was taken in for the computer flash seemed to help but then started doing it again. this is dangerous can easily be rearended. it has happened when turning or straight but always after stopping then pulling away from stop. bought vehicle with just over 2000 miles we suspect the prior owner had same problem.

My 2015 mitsubishi outlander sport hesitates after coming to a stop and attempting to accelerate again. i'd have to push the gas again to go. a slight jerk feel. i bought it in june 2015 brand new and it's done this since august. i mostly drive highway so to feel this when ya coming into a town has me concerned. there is something definitely wrong with the transmission. it scares me sometimes. i was told my car might need to be realigned but all these cars with the same issue? please check on this!

On 3/2/2016 i was in stop and go traffic on i-71 in columbus ohio. the car ahead of me moved up so i proceeded to move up as well. i took my foot off the brake, gently pressed the accellerator and the car initially began to move, then lost power to the drive wheels then reengaged with a jerk. i almost got rear ended from the car behind be because they had no warning that my car was going to essentially stop moving forward. this is the 2'nd report that i have made on this website for the same problem. the first time the car had about 3,500 miles on it and this time it had about 8,700. after the first incident i took the car to the dealership to complete a recall for the transmission control program and they thought it would fix the problem but clearly it didn't. i will be taking the car back to the dealer to let them look at it again but i am now scared to drive this car. in order for vehicles to be safe they must be predictable and this cars accelleration from a stop is not predictable. the frequency of occurrence isn't that high but it only takes 1 occurrence when there are other vehicles involved to possibly loose your life. my state has a lemon law for new vehicles so i plan to initiate the process, my life is worth more to me than it appears to be worth to mitsubishi.

Vehicle would not respond after stopping it would start to go then hesitate and stop. we could have been hit by oncoming traffic it did go after continually pressing depressing accelerator. vehicle has done this 4 times you never know when it might happen. it has only happened after stopping then attempting to go again engine is running fine prior to and after it goes again. vehicle has only 3000 miles on it.

I am also experiencing vehicle hesitation from a complete stop or a slow down. i bought it with only 6 miles on it. the problem started with about 500 miles on my vehicle. it now has 1,200 and is still doing it. from a complete stop, it will not always go when the accelerator is pushed and when it does go, it jerks like it just shifted into gear. that has happened three times just today. a couple weeks ago when i slowed down to turn right, i was able to make the turn with my foot off the accelerator but as soon as i tried to speed up, it would not move. i had cars behind me and was lucky i didn't get rear-ended. i had to coast into a parking lot where the accelerator started working again. it is intermittent and cannot be reproduced on demand, so the dealer has not been able to help with this. i was in to the dealer yesterday and was told they hooked it up to the computer and took it for a test drive and everything seems fine. they told me to bring it back in right away if it happens again. i called today to tell them it has happened three times and they can't get me in for over a week to look at it. by that time it probably won't be happening again. this is very dangerous. i'm scared to drive it but it's my only vehicle. i haven't even made my first payment on it yet. i feel like i got a lemon that nobody wants to take responsibility for.

Several instances where acceleration failed momentarily were followed by a recall. several weeks after the issue was 'corrected", acceleration failed to generate a speed past 30 mph for a few moments, then 25 mph, and i barely managed to get back at home at no more than 20 mph. every time i stepped on the gas, it caused acceleration to decrease until i stopped and coasted at 20.

On 12/13/2015 i was at a one way stop intersection and as i proceeded to accelerate through the intersection the vehicle lost power to the drive wheels momentarily and then reengaged with a jerk. it felt like the transmission slipped and then grabbed or reengaged. a few days before this i had received a recall notice to have the transmission control program replaced. i have since taken the vehicle in for the recall service and also reported the near miss due to the loss of driving power. the recall service was performed and the dealership failed to reproduce the loss of power or identify the root cause of the failure. so far this failure has only happened once but i will continue to monitor. loss of power while attempting to accelerate through an intersection to me is of significant safety concern and should be given high priority by all. the vehicle had about 3,500 miles on it at the time of the loss of power and is now at 4,000.

For those of you who had the same issue as i did with hesitation at low speeds and the engine rpm at higher speeds - i received this letter on friday december 4th - please take your vehicles into the dealership and get them fixed- you will no longer have to worry about getting into an accident - and it's not the inhibitor switch.

My 2015 mitsubishi outlander sport 2.0 has 500 miles on it and it hesitates intermittently when starting from intersections. it feels like someone put the breaks on but i think it's a transmission problem. i almost got hit twice already because of this. it usually does this when making a turn.

Transmission started slipping on my wife's brand new 2015 mitsubishi outlander sport. car has less than 10k miles on it. took it to dealership and they ordered a brand new transmission to install. very strange that the transmission would go out this soon. dealership claimed they have never seen this problem before on the new outlanders.

Vehicle hesitates intermittently when attempting to accelerate through intersection , entering on highway ect...causing risk of collision

My father purchased his 2015 outlander sport in april 2015 with a total of 3 miles on it. starting approx the end of july/beginning of august, the vehicle would "stutter" and shake upon acceleration. he promptly took it to the dealership of purchase where they told him it was a loose transmission cable and fixed it. approx 1 week after being fixed, it began to stutter and shake again, but this time sounded like loud bangs and like the cv joint was coming apart. he took it to a different dealership and was told that the previous transmission cable fix was unsuccessful and that it was fixed "correctly this time". over the last week, the car is acting up again - and is getting worse over time. he has taken it back to the dealership and they have done nothing. they let it sit for several days without looking at it and dad finally picked it up without anything being done to it. he was even in contact with the mitsubishi manufacturer. the vehicle is now shuddering on an almost constant basis with no explanation or help from the dealer/manufacturer and he has almost been in several accidents due to this.

My 2015 mitsubishi outlander sport has also seemed to hesitate after coming to a stop and attempting to accelerate again. i'd have to push the gas again to go. a slight jerk feel. i bought it in march 2015 and it's done this since may with only around 5000 miles. i mostly drive highway so to feel this when ya coming into a town has me concerned. but of course by then the dealer doesn't want to take the car back. the dealer sees nothing wrong but i'm sure with all of us posting the same common issue, there is something definitely wrong with the transmission. guess i'm stuck with the worry until i can trade it in.

I filed a complaint before and not sure how long they stay on this website but i no longer have my vehicle it was "repo" on 11.11.15 and was going to auction on 11.26.15 - who ever bought this vehicle needs to know it is a lemon. i have all the paperwork to prove it. please be very careful when driving this vehicle.

To make a very long story short i was at a stop light and pressed the gas to go and my car went forward then it just stopped it seemed like it wasn't getting enough gas - i pressed the gas peddle frantically because i was in the middle of an intersection and almost got hit. it happened again in march - i finally got the dealership to take my car for a few days they put a recording device in it and drove it - they kept it for over 30 days and it finally did the same thing to the mechanic that was driving it - they took the recording information and sent it to the engineers at the manufacture and told me that it was the inhibitor switch - they replaced it on 4.21.15 and on 4.26.15 my car did the same thing again - this time the car that almost hit me pulled over i explained to him what was happening with my car - i got his name and # just in case. i filed a complaint with the bbb and with the attorney generals office - they called me and gave me the phone number to a lemon law lawyer who now is handling my case. my brand new car still isn't fixed - i have heard that there is another 2015 outlander sport in florida doing the same thing. i have looked on the manufacture's website to see if there was anyone else experiencing the same issue or if there were any recalls on my new car and found nothing. i'm so glad i came to this website and found out that there are more than just 2 new 2015 outlander sports having the same issue. i talked to an old friend of mine who has been a mechanic for several years and he told me that it might be the map sensor- manifold absolute presser or the knock sensor.

Tl* the contact owns a 2015 mitsubishi outlander sport. the contact stated the vehicle failed to accelerate from an idle position. when the vehicle resumed normal operation, it hesitated and jerked forward. the contact was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions. the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 162.

Purchased vehicle brand new and have been experiencing jerking and hesitation during acceleration. when stopped at a light, vehicle doesn't move with when trying to accelerate and then suddenly jerks off. took the vehicle back to two different mitsubishi dealerships, including the one of purchase, and they are finding no codes or issues wrong. *tr

The suv seems to miss or hesitate when slowing to make a turn. it feels like it sputters or sticks at times when accelerating or slowing down. it usually rides smooth when driving at a constant speed, but sort of jerks when acceleration changes. i wanted to know if there were any recalls because i want to be sure the problem won't create a driving hazard. *tr
