We have classified the 3 complaints from 1999 Mitsubishi Galant about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
I own a green 99 mitsubishi galant and the clear coat is coming off causing my car to look like it has alligator skin it started on the roof and has now spread to the trunk and hood. i called mitsubishi to see if they had any complains about the paint and i was told no. the operator then asked what state i live in and when i told her that i live in texas, she told me that i should have expected to have paint problems with my vehicle because the texas sun is so harsh. i have also been involved in 3 accidents in the vehicle and my airbags have never deployed. i also have a problem keeping wheel cover on all it takes is a slight bump in the road and off they come. this year model also has major problems with the rotors warping. *jb
Abs failure- light is on after car was rear ended. dealer charge me $218 us dollars to tell me that i needed an abs system i was told that all me recall was done. by talking to the dealer none of my recalls was done and i had to bring the car few days letter and lost days of work and the abs is still not fix. they said i have to pay 1000 dollars to fix my car and it is not car accident related. the fact is i did not had any problems before the accident nor i had abs light on. now i cant even drive the car the brakes are very bed rotor is noisy car is vibrate and brakes are down. i suggest since there are 1000 of complaints on abs systems rotors pads and vehicle vibration and safety issues, please investigate this complain. *nm

I've been replacing my brakes and rotors since 93 about every 6 months it's getting out of hand, the dealer tells me i've had my recalls fixed and we argued over it but i know it hasn't been fixed. i think because it's to many of them which the dealer will lose out on time and money. i tired of replacing my brakes. pls help!*jb
Rotors warped and rusted and could not be resurfaced.resulting in cost of $475 dollars for new front rotors and brake pads. also minor crash for slow stopping.car also jerks when changing gears. *ak
Front rotors warped at around 15000 miles. at the first incident, i had the rotors turned and bought high quality pads. shortly thereafter, the rotors warped again. i bought another set of rotors, and things were okay for about 10000 miles. afterwards, braking vibration came back. i decided to buy brembo slotted rotors in case the factory rotors were not good enough. i finally found an internet site that had them for this car, but i probably cannot write the name here. i also made sure my tire center did not torque the lugs over 80 foot pounds when rotating the tires. after a rotation, i used my torque wrench to verify proper torque. so far the brembo rotors have not warped. lastly, i have noticed the steering wheel vibrates at highway speeds. tire rotation and balancing does not help.*ak

I have taken my galant to the dealer for service 6 times in the last 2 yrs. for service on the rotors. after the accident, i took the car in again. they checked the car and said that there was no problem with the brakes, however the area rep. stated that the rotors are warped, but that is normal and does not effect the brakes.*ak

I have had problem after problem...had rotors replaced 3 mos after purchase, complained of violent shaking numerous times. i was told this was b/c i had "after factory" wheels that were too big for my car. i learned to live with it. the next thing to occur was a loud noise while driving coming from front end wheels. in june of 2001, i had an a/c idler pulley replaced for $150. as soon as i drove away, the noise presented again. i finally gave up on sitting at the dlrshp for 3 hrs w/a 3 yr old, so i've learned to live with it...yet again. the noise still persists as of 2/02. in may of 2001, i began experiencing electrical problems. to date i've had all recalls svcd. upon the start of my car, the sunroof, lights, anything power, radio, etc., were not in function. i noticed this the first time after pulling away. numerous times thereafter (2x in rain) i started to pull out and turn on my w/shld wipers to realize nothing worked. my temp. fix was to shut off the car and restart again...praying. as of late...i have had my e brake light luminated for about 2 months, for no reason. my oil lamp light would come on here and there. when starting my car now, sometimes my radio will be "on" but, won't start working and will eventually come in from the back spkrs up to the front. the other temp fix i've found when things aren't working, is to turn the key slightly back toward me and it turns things on. on top of all this...my black weather stripping on top of my car has flown off (clips broke) this happened the first cold w/end of dec 2001. w/in 2 days, both flew off while i was on the hwy. i had to pull off to removed the remainder. and getting to the last but not least stuff...one day last week, my locks would not stayed in the locked position. i would lock all, reverse, turn, do anything and they would unlock themselves, miraculously, the next day it stopped. as of last night, my door ajar lamp is on and remains on & my dome lights -will not shut off.*ak

I leased a 1999 mitsubishi galant on aug 30, 1999, two weeks later i took my car back because of hearing grinding and scrubbing noises when applying my brakes, i was told by a rude service manager that it was brake dust so all they did was clean it out which was a lame excuse, i have been driving and owned cars for more than 15 years, a couple of weeks later the same thing again i was told it was brake dust, about a month after that i made an appointment and went in again and was told i needed rotors and began to tell how much it costs, i argued that point because it is a lease so then they replaced the rotors. i have replaced rotors and/or brakes pads at least every 3000 to 5000 miles since then because i just did not have the time to play the dealers games. it gets so bad that i have to pump the brakes every time and the front end of the car vibrates like it is falling apart especially going down hill, have to start pumping the brakes at the top of the hill in order to stop safely. and to top that off, i called to make an appointment to take my car in again last summer and the dealership has gone out of business. this has gone on wasting my money for over three and a half years, in january of this year i had an accident because of my brakes, i did not have ample time to apply the brakes when another driver pulled out in front of me, thankfully no one was hurt, i had three thousand dollars worth of damage. my question is why does this go on, why has mitsubishi not recalled these cars to correct the problem or are they not able to correct it? do they not have the proper knowledge to locate and correct the problem? does someone have to be seriously injured or killed before someone at mitsubishi gives a [xxx] about the poor construction and possible inadequate parts used in the braking system of these cars?? from what i am able to find out these problem still exist even on the brand new galant's, what is the deal?? *nlm information redacted pursuant ...
Problems with the vehicle started two days after purchase, they rotated the rotors on the brakes. since that time i have had the vehicle back seven different occasions. they have replaced the rotors, rotated, you name it and it is still not corrected. i have a three year old daughter that i am scared to death to ride in the car. the dealer has been unresponsive and extremely nasty to us. the owner of the dealer hung up on my wife yesterday. the service manager screamed at me today, and said we have done all we can. they won't return phone calls. i have contacted corporate mitsubishi and they say they will work on the problem. i just completed the paper work for the lemon laws in maryland. i need help with making sure no one else buys a lemon from the dealer, and they don't stand behind their cars. please assist me, in anyway you can. thank you in advance for your time.*ak

Front rotors keep warping after 3,000 miles to 5,000 miles , dealer has replaced rotors 5 times with same design. *ak
Brakes began making a loud vibrational whining or "winding down" sound whenever brakes were applied. sometimes the steering wheel would pull if the stop was abrupt. at first visit to dealer, problem was denied. four more subsequent visits resulted in replacement of pads, rotors, and even wheel hubs. last repair was at 19 or 20,000 miles; noise began to return as the vehicle odometer turned 22,000. dealer would not offer satisfaction; i sold the car, suspecting that this would be a recurring problem for the life of the car. i had safety concerns as well as the annoyance of repeated repairs.
Rotors have been replaced twice and turned twice. dealer advised mitsubishi rotors are bad and that if i replaced the rotors with after market rotors problem would cease. *ak

We took delivery of our car on 2/25/99. it was taken into the dealer service dept on 5/12/99 with bad virbration in the steering upon braking. they said the rotors and bushings were bad and replaced them. 2 mos later, back again with same problem. same thing done again to fix. we have taken the car back 5 times for the exact same thing. the problem keeps returning after about 2000 miles each time, they replace the same thing. i have contacted mitsubishi and the dealer pete moore, no response. i am afraid there is something very wrong with this car. i have found on the internet where many other people are having the same exact problem and they also have taken their cars in and the exact same repairs are done over and over. something is wrong here. something that could be very dangerous. no one wants to do anything about it. i believe there is a defect in the manufacture of some of these cars. they can't fix it for good. the problem creeps back within a couple thousand miles. now i know i am not the only one out there with this problem. please, i believe this could be a safety hazard. i am afraid to travel. i am afraid the what if what ever is wrong with this car that they cannot find, what if it breaks. what will happen. will i be able to stop, to steer? will i lose control of the car? something is bad wrong here. i feel this really needs to be checked out. thank you.*ak
Steering wheel shakes violently duing braking and at speeds above 35 miles per hour. *ak
The abs brakes smell like they are burning. had heard a grinding noise. vehicle pulled to left when brakes were applied. had the abs brakes changed, after going to dealer's at least 7 different times. the problem with abs brakes still exists. *ak
Front rotors require resurfacing approx. every 7,000 miles. front brakes also lose stopping efficiency when rotors are warped. this appears to be a safety related design defect justifying a recall. *ak
