Problems with 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

When putting car under full throttle, intake manifold splits at the part where it connects to the throttle body. this causes engine to shut down while driving, including loss of power steering, etc. can be very dangerous. replacement of manifold is $300+ for labor and $600+ for parts. many others with same engine type (4g64) have had exact same problem. *tr

I had no problem out of car leading up to the point at hand. i started the car and turned on the heat. the car ran for about 30 to 35 minutes. ar was warm inside, i had to turn the heat off. i left my friends house headed up north i81. my car had no signs of problems. the car shot flames out either side of the car and my engine had exploded. i coasted down the road to put the flames out pulled into the emegency lane. jumped out told my girlfriend to get out and away from the car. the engine was on fire still at this point. luckaily a friend of mine had been following me and had something to extinguish the rest of the fire. the car was sold to me with the remainer of the power train warrenty. a mitsubishi rep read the computer codes. he said since the water temp read 64 degrees the car had been abused. mitsubishi never contacted me to see if i had maintenance records. which indeed i do have those documents. plus i had 7 witnesses that night that knew the heat was working fine, meaning the water temp was above 64 degrees. now how can a low water temp cause an engine to throw a rod. and catch on fire? o action was taken it actually took mitsubishi 3 months to decide the care would not be covered under warranty.*ak

Car stalled at a stop light for no reason and had difficulty starting again. while driving, car would suddenly lose then regain power. has happened 6 times while driving in the last 3 days. *jb

My car has been making a strange sound, so i took it in to the dealership yesterday. they discovered that i was out of oil- though there have been no obvious oil leaks, and the oil light has never come on. due to this, extensive damage was found through out the engine. i was told that the oil lights don't always work. *jb

Consumer states while driving vehicle without warning and at any speed, vehicle will shake, mechanic states all four rims are dented resulting in vehicle shaking.*jb consumer states this also causes the steering to shake. dealer had to secure clamp due to vehicle losing antifreeze. brake light illuminated, dealer replaced front brake pads. sunroof would not tilt, dealer reset the sunroof glass. *slc

Consumers daughter was driving, noticed black smoke coming through air conditioning vents, vehicle looked to be on fire, consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they could not determine what had cause the fire. *ak prior to the fire, the engine would start, air condition was inoperative,sunroff was inoperative, mirror were inoperative, emergency brake was inoperative needed to be readjusted,fog lights stayed on even with the key out of ignition, windshield wiper was inoperative, cargo cover was loose, there was a problem with the power steering

I purchased my car new from modesto mitsubishi. at the time it was noted that the sunfroof molding was not installed correctly and was to be replaced. i started having problems with overheating, electrical malfuntions, mirrors, clock, casette door defect, also sunroof opened only while getting on highway. i took vehicle to dealer, and ended up having to rent a car for about 3 1/2 weeks while they replaced warped head. when i picked up my car, the sunroof molding still not replaced, the car stereo i was told they had to order, the sunroof i was told was ok. i worked 2 hours from home making it difficult to make arrangements for vehicle to be left again.when i did call and question the stereo i was told that it had been sent back and the and that they would have to keep it. again i would have to rent vehicle. the most recent reccuring issue is the ungodly mold smell coming from driver and passenger door, the car cuts out while trying to excellerate onto freeway, pass vehicles, going up roads. while getting on freeway i have tried to excellerate finding myself flooring gas and not being able to achieve more than 20 miles per hour with oncoming traffic, same as going up hill. my paint has started oxidizing in white spots throughout hte vehicle and when i took to dealers 3 weeks ago, explained smell i was told the smell was from airconditioner propably and then asked how many miles i had on car regarding paint. then aked to come back in an hour. this is after i had called earlier and told to bring in. regardless of miles it is the same year as every other 2000 with out spots. and it has been kept kept it in my garage since april 2002 other than leaving 2 times a day to pick up child at schoo and occasional road trips. i have been driving a second vehicle. i feel very apprehensive when i go to dealership due to them saying they are not going to do anything. i have sent car in with 2 seperate people getting the run around as well. *ak

I have 2 complaints. my wheels were also dented and fractured upon inspection and had visible wear to my tires. two different garages had stated to go to the dealer and check on it. they of course said there was no problem and just to buy new rims at $385.00 each or tires. of course, after buying tires a few times, i just bought after market rims. the second complaint, is i have had visible corrosion on the battery cables on my car for years and asked the dealer if there was a reason so much is gathering, they advised no. well, i have replaced the battery and still am having the same problems such as: air conditioner goes out with the light blinking, car does not start, or while driving it will stall as well as run very sluggish. i have asked repeatedly if there is a problem and they stated not for my car, due to the date made. i find this a little odd, i have all the same problems of the 2000 eclipse, however, my car was made "during the dates". my car is a 2000 eclipse gt and my battery wires have shown visible signs of corrosion for years and not being a mechanic how would i have though anything different than changing the battery, as well as getting new tires and new after market rims for the same price as stock rims. *jb

While driving at 50 mph, all of a sudden speed drops from 5o mph to 20 mph without warning. driver was able to exit off the road safely. dealership and manufacturer were sent a certified letter about the problem. a new engine and a new computer chip were put into the vehicle. please provide any further information. *ak

I was sitting in the car with it idling eating diner. i noticed smoke coming from under the hood and went inside and called the fire dept. when i returned the car was ingulfed in flames. the car was a total loss. my insurance co hired a fire investegator to investigate. it was determind to be a mfg. defect that is all the information i was given. my insurance co. is allstate and they paid the car off and of what i owed on the car. i lost my down payment of 2,000 dollars. i don't think i should of lost anything on something that was there fault. i talked to the mitsubishi co several times and they told me sorry my tough luch and my loss. i would like any help you could give me on this. there were no police on the seen but the fire dept. made a report of this accedent.
