Problems with 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse VISIBILITY

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse rs. the contact was driving approximately 45-50 mph when he engaged the windshield wiper lever it fractured. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 125,000 and the current mileage was 145,000. updated 06/07/12

Contact states: while she was washing vehicle she noticed a crack in dashboard. also, a crack in rim. she has not had any type of accident to cause these problems. she said that there was a film on the inside windshield. the film was probably moisture were it had rained.*ak

Washer fluid hose failed (broke) at hood attachment point, making windshield washers inoperative. unable to clean window during inclement winter weather conditions (salt, sand), causing reduced visibility until can be manually cleaned after stopping.*ak possible cause incorrect/poor routing of hose in and through body paneling, causing excessive wear and/or strain on hose when hood opened, leading to premature failure of hose.

During and after a rain, the a/c and defroster does not work. dealers have said that the belt must have gotten wet by water splashing up from the street. once i only pulled out of the driveway and could not see where i was going due to the fogging up of the windshield caused by the air blowing hot. while driving at the start of the rain, turning on the defroster instantly fogs up the interior and you can not see out. i real life or death problem. there have been several times the car was returned to the dealer, only to have them tell me that nothing is wrong. *ak

Consumer states while driving vehicle without warning and at any speed, vehicle will shake, mechanic states all four rims are dented resulting in vehicle shaking.*jb consumer states this also causes the steering to shake. dealer had to secure clamp due to vehicle losing antifreeze. brake light illuminated, dealer replaced front brake pads. sunroof would not tilt, dealer reset the sunroof glass. *slc

Consumers daughter was driving, noticed black smoke coming through air conditioning vents, vehicle looked to be on fire, consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they could not determine what had cause the fire. *ak prior to the fire, the engine would start, air condition was inoperative,sunroff was inoperative, mirror were inoperative, emergency brake was inoperative needed to be readjusted,fog lights stayed on even with the key out of ignition, windshield wiper was inoperative, cargo cover was loose, there was a problem with the power steering

Consumer states when it rains, water sits inside the water well, and when rolling the windows down and back up there is a water film on them, in colder weather windows will sometimes freeze because of this water, contact dealer and dealer stated it is common and vehicle is not defected.*ak *yh

Closed sunroof violently exploded with small glass going all over both passengers going 60 mph down highway. nothing hit the car. had had problems opening prior. mitsubishi will not take any responsibility of possible defect. insurance reports no evidence of object hitting. could have been deadly in heavier traffic.

I purchased my car new from modesto mitsubishi. at the time it was noted that the sunfroof molding was not installed correctly and was to be replaced. i started having problems with overheating, electrical malfuntions, mirrors, clock, casette door defect, also sunroof opened only while getting on highway. i took vehicle to dealer, and ended up having to rent a car for about 3 1/2 weeks while they replaced warped head. when i picked up my car, the sunroof molding still not replaced, the car stereo i was told they had to order, the sunroof i was told was ok. i worked 2 hours from home making it difficult to make arrangements for vehicle to be left again.when i did call and question the stereo i was told that it had been sent back and the and that they would have to keep it. again i would have to rent vehicle. the most recent reccuring issue is the ungodly mold smell coming from driver and passenger door, the car cuts out while trying to excellerate onto freeway, pass vehicles, going up roads. while getting on freeway i have tried to excellerate finding myself flooring gas and not being able to achieve more than 20 miles per hour with oncoming traffic, same as going up hill. my paint has started oxidizing in white spots throughout hte vehicle and when i took to dealers 3 weeks ago, explained smell i was told the smell was from airconditioner propably and then asked how many miles i had on car regarding paint. then aked to come back in an hour. this is after i had called earlier and told to bring in. regardless of miles it is the same year as every other 2000 with out spots. and it has been kept kept it in my garage since april 2002 other than leaving 2 times a day to pick up child at schoo and occasional road trips. i have been driving a second vehicle. i feel very apprehensive when i go to dealership due to them saying they are not going to do anything. i have sent car in with 2 seperate people getting the run around as well. *ak

While driving the sunroof violently exploded, small pieces of glass fell onto the driver and occupant,the consumer believes this defect should be covered under warranty. nlm

Violent deployment of the air bag caused eye injury to the driver, the consumer may have sustained permanent injury to the left eye. nlm

Water collects in driver side door, windows leak in rain? also, wipers stopped working while driving 60mph, several near accidents due to this.

Power windows when rolled down in dry weather come back up wet with a mildew smell. dealer has replaced window stripping, did not remedy problem.*ak the dealer denies there was mildew proble. *yh

After rain or a car wash, water stays inside the door for several days. when rolling the windows up, a film of water stays on the window, reducing visibility. *ak
