Problems with 2005 Mazda Tribute VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

The 2005 mazda tribute initially started to be sporadically sluggish/hesitation when stepping on the gas. it seemed like there was a delay from when i pressed on the gas pedal to when the vehicle actually accelerated. on 6/4/15, a couple days after first experiencing the sluggishness/hesitant acceleration, the vehicle stalled/lost power while driving 55 miles per hour on a busy road. fortunately, i was able to coast over to the side of the road. within a few minutes i was able to restart the vehicle and continue on my way. the vehicle continued to be sluggish at acceleration and would randomly stall while driving and/or idling. at this point with the vehicle's mechanical issues, the check engine light was not on- even though there was something major wrong with the vehicle. over the next couple weeks i had the vehicle in the shop three times. the first time in the shop (6/6/15) the check engine light was still not on- -so they were not able to diagnose the problem. they shop suggested replacing the fuel filter and do a fuel system clean-- which i did. the vehicle continued to be sluggish/hesitant when accelerating & randomly stalled while driving and/or idling. about a week later the check engine light finally came on. i took the vehicle to the shop & they indicated the code was telling them that cylinder 2 was misfiring. no other codes were read. all the spark plugs were replaced, coils were checked (in good condition). the check engine light did not come back on; however, the vehicle continued to run sluggish and stall while driving (multiple times when i was going 55-65 mph). on 6/24/15 the car stalled again but this time it would not restart. i had the vehicle towed to the shop & they indicated the computer was dead and needed to be replaced. i contacted mazda and they denied there were issues with the mazda tribute computers and said it was just my vehicle.

We purchased this vehicle new and about 5 times over the history of owning this vehicle, the gas peddle stuck and on the last most recent event the car got stuck at a high rate of speed on the freeway and it could not be slowed by pulling the pedal up with foot. thank god there were no vehicles around or slowing traffic ahead. mazda issued a recall #94751 - vehicle speed control: cables but when we took the car into the nearest mazda dealership we were told that our vehicle's vin is not covered by this recall as it supposedly does not have the "defective part(s) installed." yet the summary of the recall description notes that it is a design/installation flaw with the vehicle i.e. "inadequate clearance between the engine cover and speed control cable connector" resulting in a stuck throttle. mazda won't stand behind their vehicle now and want us to pay to have it serviced/diagnosed/fixed?! also i had previously taken this car to the dealership twice in the past when this happened and they could not find anything wrong with it. mazda needs to do a more in-depth investigation of this very dangerous situation and design/parts flaw and issue a more extensive recall on their 2005 mazda tributes. note our model is a 2.3l, 4 cylinder engine and their recall only covers the 3.0l v6 engine. *tr

When approaching a 4-way intersection during daylight hours, the light turned yellow then red. i tried to stop by pressing my brake pedal. my vehicle did not slow down, but continued to accelerate up hill. i pressed as hard as possible but my vehicle went through the intersection and i ran into the side of another vehicle. i was originally going about 30mph and when i hit the other vehicle, i was going about 25mph. my vehicle stopped after hitting the other vehicle but continued to rev higher. i was injured when my arms bent the steering wheel forward, the seat belt bruised me and my right foot (talus bone) was broken by the pressure on the brake pedal. i required surgery. i was out of work for 3 weeks and wore a cast for 7 weeks. the policeman who reported to the accident site discovered the gas pedal was half way down to the floor and stuck. the other driver and a witness said they heard the vehicle revving after it stopped after impact. the vehicle cut off after about 30 seconds on its own and would not restart. there are similar reports of this happening on the website but no recalls have been issued. i had owned the vehicle for 5 years and 9 months at the time of the accident. the vehicle was totaled. *tr

Accelerator got stuck multiple times in cold weather. at stops and signals or turns, after the vehicle is completely stopped accelerator gets stuck. have to press very hard and some times take 5-10 minutes to move. on 2/4 got stuck one time and on 2/6 stuck 3 times on the road. *tr

I received this car from my deceased parents about 3 years ago. there has been numerous occasions that my gas pedal has stuck either while i'm stopped and try to go or if i am shifting gears. this is very dangerous if my gas pedal is sticking. it happened 3 times september 14, 2013 within a 10 min period on the drive out to my son's soccer game. i have 2 stop signs and 4 stop lights between that area and the gas pedal stuck at one light and both stop signs. on other occasions my cruise control has revved up when trying to turn it off and it has also just gotten stuck. that could be very dangerous when trying to slow down for traffic ahead. *tr

The first time i had an issue with the gas pedal, i was backing out of a driveway and the pedal got stuck all the way down. my car wouldn't move. since then, i've had 5 instances where i'm driving my car and let up on the gas pedal and it gets stuck. i have to stomp on the pedal multiple times for it to start working again. i'm always in traffic and have to turn on my hazard lights and pull off to the side if there is a shoulder available. this has also happened when merging onto the interstate when traffic is moving over 50 mph. this is very dangerous and i'm upset to find that many other owners have had this issue and we have to pay to get this fixed. it should be a recall. *tr

I have had problems with my gas pedal every since i got the car. the problem is that it will not accelerate its like it has something behind the gas pedal preventing it to go down. it has got worse over the years especially when it is cold outside it seems to stick worse. you can try to push it harder or even pull up on it and it doesn't budge. i had to pullover today because i couldn't get the pedal to work so i couldn't give it gas. i got it work and was driving down the road and it froze up again. i finally made it to my destination and when i left nothing was wrong with it. got in it tonight after work and it is very cold outside and it was stuck again. called mazda earlier and said they was no recall on it. got online afterwards and found numerous people with the same problem. i got it checked out before with mazda while under warranty and they told me nothing was wrong with. *tr

When apply full or almost full pressure to the gas peddle the throttle sticks causing the car to speed forward and the brakes do not engage fully to stop the vehical. thhis happened 3 times so far. i had use the emergency brake. i had the recall repair done this occured after it was done. they did something to the engine cover but later had it removed because i thought that was still it. but even without the engine on the car the throttle still sticks. dealership says it does not know why i am having the problem. *tr

I have found that my gas pedal won't depress in cold weather. the first time this happened was a few weeks after i bought the car in 2009. the said it's cold and the car just needs to warm up. this problem has continued to happen year after year, but never for any length of time. however this morning, as i was driving to work the pedal would no longer depress as i was going down the road. eventually i coasted to a red light and i frantically stepped on the pedal to no avail. i was able to turn on my hazard lights and somehow coast into a parking lot. i continued to let the car sit and warm up for another 10-12 minutes, when i was finally able to rev the engine. believing that the problem was solved i backed out of my parking sort and again tried to drive forward, however the pedal still would not depress. after sitting another 10 minutes, i was finally able to press the pedal hard enough for it to depress. i ended up needing one of my co-workers to follow me to work in case it happened again; which is did after 3-4 more times on my 10 minute drive to work. please look into this issue. *tr

On december 1, 2012 while driving at 58mph around 345pm on the expressway, my foot was on the accelerator with steady pressure, the car began to slow down. i realized that the car was not maintaining speed. i tried to press down on the accelerator pedal but it did not move. i was able to pull to the side of the road. i then tried with all the force of my leg to press down on the accelerator but with no avail. i tried lifting the pedal with my foot several times and suddenly the pedal freed up. this was on a sunny day, temperature around 60 . i have had this happen several times before on cold mornings on the way to work over the last few years but thought the car was cold and the car had not a chance to warm up. in 2010 i filed a complaint.no response. but this time i was truly afraid of getting in a bad car accident and injuring others.i have researched this vehicle and there does not appear to be any recalls for this model. on monday i plan to contact mazda for help before someone gets hurt. i urge you to look more into this make/model year. *tr

When driving in cold weather, the accelerator will not press down. if you stop at a red light or slow down for traffic and try to accelerate, you can't press the accelerator down to get speed. it is stuck and won't press down. you have to keep pressing on it hard which results in the car taking off real fast and jerking everyone in it or causing traffic behind you to run into you because your vehicle will not accelerate. i've been reporting this problem since i've had this automobile in 2005. there are several hundred complaints on the internet with the same problem. i guess someone will have to be killed or seriously injured before something is done. *tr

First let me please advise that there was no incident regarding my vehicle. i am writing to try to get information about a potential recurring problem that was first reported and recalled with the 2002 and the 2003 / recall 63202. i have a 2005 mazda tribute and was just advised by the service department of irwin mazda in freehold new jersey that my car will need to have the brake booster and the master cylinder replaced. i know my car is a 2005 and the recall pertained to the 2002 and 2003 models, but i feel that this is an issue that is recurring and is not being addressed. i contacted mazda corporate and spoke to the supervisor mr. johhny garcia and i voiced my concerns, and i was dismissed by him stating that there was nothing he can or will do to escalate my concerns to a higher level of management at mazda corporate. the number i called was 949-727-1990. i am not sure how this works but i am truly concerned with this issue. there might be more consumers like me out there that had this issue with their car and was dismissed also. not only is this a safety concern, but the cost to replace this could be in the thousands. can you please reach out to mazda regarding my concerns, since [xxx] refused to help me escalate my call. thank you so much for your help. My 2005 tribute has had gas pedal problems in the past. it was serviced for this in 2008 however when the weather is cold the gas pedal is still stiff and i have to stomp on it to get it to go. yesterday however was a different story. i headed to work with my baby in the car. about 3 miles down the road on a hwy going 60 mph i let off the gas to slow down and my car did not slow! i stomped the break and it hardly made a difference. i went for 3 or 4 miles not pressing the gas and continued to fly down the road at 60 mph! i tried to kick the gas and it didn't help. i finally took both of my feet and stood on the break while trying not to get rear ended and pulled off on the exit ramp still going 15-20 mph! i had to turn the key off to get my car to stop! my husband was near by and said that my car was idling at 3rpms! if this had happened in different circumstances....i don't even want to think about that! please pay attention to all of the same complaints on this website! if this had been addressed earlier my baby and i would not have had to go threw that! does someone have to die before anyone does anything? *tr

I have been experiencing problems with my 2005 mazda tribute. the accelerator will be depressed and the car doesn't move. then it will suddenly lunge forward. other times, i press the accelerator and there is a jerk as the car once again lunges forward. yesterday while on the highway, the car suddenly accelerated momentarily. this problem has been listed on the internet many times but it seems that someone will have to have an accident or die before there is a recall. it doesn't appear to be a new problem as they recalled earlier models than 2005 for what looks like the same problem. this happens intermittently and sometimes there are days between episodes. up until this occurrence, the tribute has been a wonderful car. this, however, brings memories of toyota. please investigate before someone gets injured or killed. *tr

I have had problems in the past where my gas pedal gets stuck. it's almost as if there is something lodged beneath the pedal, but the floor area is clear and free from any clutter. i have also noticed that this problem occurs once the weather changes; as soon as winter season starts is when i have this problem. i had it taken to a local mechanic shop and was told that there was a carbon build-up that needed to be cleaned out. the mechanic stated the carbon build-up was not allowing the throttle plate/flap to open and close like it should which was causing the gas pedal to stick. this can lead to a very dangerous or life-threatening car accident. this has happened for the past two years and is now starting up again. the only other complaint other than this is that the vehicle makes for a very noisy ride on the highway; i hear all outside noises such as the wind and bumps on the road. *tr

The gas pedal wont depress in cold weather. generally any temperature close to or below freezing. the first incident was shortly after i purchased the vehicle in 2009. i took it back to the mazda dealer but they could not find anything wrong. their remedy was to grease and lubricate the pedal assembly. this did not remedy the situation and the problem has been continuous every winter. i find that if i warm the car up sufficiently after the car has been parked for an extended period of time, the pedal does not stick. but this evening, november 17, 2012, it became stuck while i was driving and the car was warm. luckily, i was able to pull into a parking lot and not get rear ended for suddenly slowing down and not being able to accelerate. hoping for a recall very soon. *tr

After reading other similar complaints, i felt compelled to address this issue with the gas pedal. it seems mazda has been aware of this problem for many years, yet no recall. the gas pedal sticks in weather colder than 50 degrees. for an all-terrain vehicle (suv) which is made to go off-road and in mountains, this is a pretty serious safety issue. when i conferred with my local mazda dealer, they wanted to charge me $400 for parts and labor to "replace" a faulty mechanism. i feel i shouldn't have to pay for something which is inherent with these tribute vehicles and for which mazda is fully aware. *tr

In august 2004, i purchased a 2005 brand new mazda tribute suv. at the end of 2005, i started having trouble with my accelerator sticking. i took it to the dealer for repair and assumed that this problem would never occur again. but, to my dismay, it seems to occur every year, especially when the cold weather arrives. i have taken it to the dealer several times for repair and i was told that i would need to come back within a certain amount of miles to have the throttle cleaned so the accelerator will not stick. also,was told that this problem occurs with these type of vehicles. the throttle gets grime and gump in it and that's what causes the sticking. recently, on last friday, it began to stick again when i was driving into my neighborhood i could not get up on my driveway. i had to coast it along the side of the street and park it. whenever this occurs, i cannot press on the accelerator at all, it will not budge and my car tends to lose power and begins to slow down. on sunday evening, i was on the interstate when it occurred, very scary, i coast over into the right hand lane and over to the shoulder of the road, so i would not be hit from behind. on monday morning, on my way to work, i was at a stop light and when i went to pull off after the light turned green, it would not move. this is so ridiculous, as i have to go to the dealer each time and pay for something that should have been a recall. i don't know if others have complained about this or not, but i decided to because i am afraid for my safety as well as others. this is very dangerous. *tr

The gas pedal on my 2005 mazda tribute sticks. i can not figure out a reason for this, or what causes it to do it. sometimes it sticks when trying to take off from a red light, sometimes it is if i am trying to accelerate out of a turn and sometimes it is just a basic attempt to accelerate going straight. i do notice though that if i already am accelerating and i push my foot onto the pedal more it will not stick, it only sticks when i have taken my foot completely off the accelerator, then try to push down on the pedal. *tr
