I was taking my daughter to high school in the morning with my son in the car as well. in the parking lot of the high school, i applied the brakes but the brakes did not work. my foot was all the way to the floor when they finally caught but i was out in the line of traffic and luckily no one hit me and injured my son or myself. after replacing the rotors and brake pads that did not fix the situation, i have since learned that the brake booster has been an ongoing issue with mazda cx-9 that was even investigated by the nhtsa without having a recall. how does something so critical in the safety of lives does not generate a recall that the nhtsa has seen repeated complaints of the same issue without advising or caring about the safety of the consumers and other drivers. it is an ongoing issue that mazda has not addressed or corrected.
About 1 month ago i noticed my car making a hissing sound when my foot was on the brake pedal at a red light or stop sign. if i was a long red light or in a drive thru for more than 5 minutes i noticed my car would begin to tremble. then about a week ago i noticed if i had to brake suddenly, the brake pedal was very hard to push down making it almost impossible to stop. i took the car to the dealer on 2/3/2020 and the technician mentioned that they have been having problems with the brake booster.
Brakes really hard to press. wife thought car wasn't going to stop and she was going to rear end car in front of her. sometimes brake pedal would feel spongy. over last month there was an intermittent strange noise sometimes when car was started. mazda dealership identified the problem to be a defective brake booster. i found that nhtsa opened investigation on cx-9 brake issues previously and mazda identified problem to be brake booster. mazda extended the warranty to 7 years or 90,000 miles and nhtsa closed investigation. our brake booster failed at 9 years with 79,388 miles on the car. from what i have read the life expectancy of a brake booster is the life of the car. mazda never informed us about this possible problem. our family could have been seriously injured or killed due to this defect. why did the nhtsa accept an extended warranty as a solution?
I was pulling into a parking spot in the upper parking lot at work. i stepped on the brake pedal so that i could stop and park but the pedal was hard and had no give. the car continued to roll forward over a curb and partly down a small set of stairs that go from the upper parking lot to the lower parking lot. the car stopped when it hit a metal railing and i shifted the car into park.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 mazda cx9. the contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 13 mph and attempting to slow down, the brake pedal was harder than usual to depress. as a result, the driver rear ended the vehicle in front causing a five vehicle collision at a traffic light. none of the frontal air bags deployed. the police were present and a police report was filed. there were no injuries reported. the vehicle was towed to an impound lot where the insurance company was scheduled to have an inspector inspect the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the contact referenced nhtsa action number: pe14005 (service brakes, hydraulic). the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
There are noises coming from the front tires, when driving. no one could pinpoint the problem. brake booster went out a couple months later.
Both rear brakes locked up on separate occasion while driving on the freeway at about 70 mph. each time the brake engaged themselves and locked onto the disk/rotor. this caused the pads to burn up and produce a larger quantity of smoke. on one occasion the rotor became red hot, flame was visible, lots of smoke was being produced, and it warped rotor. every time it occurred i stopped the vehicle and turned it off. after the restart of the vehicle the brakes were not locked but the vehicle would shake as now the rotors were warped an the pads were destroyed. i took my vehicle to the mazda dealership and they informed me that i needed new pads, i did but it was due to the rear brakes locking up on their own. i got the pads replaced and 6 months later it happened again. this time i recorded a video on my phone and showed the dealer ship what i experienced again. this time they informed that i needed, new brake pads(again), rotors, and piston but they did not address what is causing the rear brakes only to lock up on their own creating excessive wear ...
Our vehicle has lost braking power and is unsafe to drive any distance now. it is very difficult to get the vehicle to stop and keep it stopped once it has stopped moving without putting it in park. i have been advised this is in relation to mazda ssp 93. mazda has advised that is it my responsibility to have this vehicle towed to the nearest dealership, pay for repair labor, and pay for a rental car while repairs are being made. i am in complete disbelief that a known manufacturer's defect related to braking and general safety of everyone on the road was not immediately issued as a recall. we were provided zero notice that there was even potential for brake failure.
Brake booster failed. this is a known issue to mazda. mazda said to bring into dealer for assessment and consideration for goodwill warranty replacement. dealer determined brake booster failed and mazda then denied goodwill claim. i paid dealer to fix the issue. this is a major safety issue and should have been recalled, not granted an extended warranty.
Hissing sound when brake pedal is pressed. pedal gets really hard to push then it goes to the floor when attempting to stop the vehicle. in a panic stop it feels that the car will not be able to stop. i am told that the brake booster has failed. the mileage on the vehicle is approximately 138,000 miles.
