On average, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 10 029 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2018 Mazda CX-5

Made a slow right turn into a parking place to pick up my dogs at the groomer, when i applied brakes to stop, the car accelerated lurching forward. i then took my foot off the brake and reapplied instead of slowing down the car sped up and was only stopped when i hit a brick building. i had two dash warnings "front camera sensor system malfunction" and "forward smart city bread support malfunction" i am not certain how fast the car was moving when i hit the building but the entire front of the car is significantly damaged. further the air bags did not deploy. i have photos of both the collision damage and the warning lights. the dealership requested they run diagnostics and found nothing wrong claiming the accident was my fault as i must have put my foot on both the brake and gas at the same time. i am an experienced driver and this was not the case. the also stated the warning lights were a result of the accident not the cause. i am only grateful i was not pulling into a space closer to the door as i would have gone through a plate glass window and most likely would have cause a serious injury to anyone standing in the lobby.

While light braking, car brakes jam... causing unintended stop. dangerous. at no time was a code flagged. mentioned to girl at desk when in for service 3 times. when car when in for service. ladt service i believe car was put on diagnostics. was told nothing found. because it happens so often, & dealership tells me cannot find any problem...i called a mechanic outside of mazda. spoke on phone with master mechanic. & described problem..he informed me problem was a sensor in the transmission. car shuts down & locks. because it happens so fast no code is generated. said is serious problem.

While driving on a city street and there is a car stopped in front, i will start to brake lightly and then increase braking if needed. three times the car has stopped itself with mazda's "smart city brake" feature. i had space to stop in time, but the car's scb takes over and violently brakes the car to a stop an increases the chance of a rear end collision from a car following me. this has happened 3 times. every time i had control and could stop in time and the vehicle's algorithm says too close and stops the car violently, even if i am applying the brakes already. unacceptable to have the scb feature this sensitive, and should not brake more if the driver is already applying the brakes.

Driving in the city while a car in front is turning right and well out of the cars future path, the smart city brake feature will illuminate on the dash to brake. there is no need to brake as the car in front is turning out of the way. very annoying and upsets my wife as a passenger. radar needs reflashed and the beam width be smaller. car should see that the car is leaving the radar path and should not start beep. this happens alot.

My son was driving the car with speed 20 and his dad was sitting next to him. he turned to neighborhood gate. he pressed the brake but the car accelerates on its own like crazy. in short distance from speed 20 went to a speed that flipped over at the gate. instead of brake car accelerated so fast that was unbelievably. hopefully no injury happened. but the car is total lost.

The scbs (smart city brake support) system overreacts to other vehicles and forces my vehicle to stop suddenly (not slow down) when there is sufficient distance for me to stop or the vehicle in front is turning and no threat. this overreaction has nearly caused four accidents in which the scbs forced the car to brake and the vehicles behind me nearly hitting my car. rather than avoiding an accident, the system will causes them if it weren't for the quick reactions of the drivers behind me.

Persistent issue with smart city break systems malfunctioning causing the vehicle to break without warning. so far only at low speeds but it triggers a check engine light due to me pushing the gas while the car is trying to break. when i can get to a spot to turn the engine off, then back on, the warnings go away. it's very unsettling when this happens and feels like an accident could occur at any moment as i can't control the speed of the vehicle when this happens. so far this has happened on city streets and once while driving in a curvy country road. has occurred at least 5 times in the two weeks i've only the vehicle and the dealership has no idea what is wrong. they replaced some parts but it's still happening.

On january 10, 2019, i slowed down in my local grocery store parking lot, going about 10 miles and hour, and was coasting into a parking space at about 5 mph. it was about 1:15 pm on a sunny, clear day. i was applying the brake to stop the car as i pulled into the spot yet i was going slow and coasting straight into the spot. suddenly, the car sped up, the brakes had no response, and the car accelerated hitting 3 parked cars near the parking space. i did not have my foot on the accelerator, i had my foot on the brake. . . but more than anything, i had no control, it was unintended acceleration. then the car stopped after i hit three vehicles and fortunately no humans. i was shaken, but no bags deployed. i have approximately 6950 miles on this car. i have been the only owner. i am afraid to drive this car because i am concerned it will do this again and i will be in traffic or near people and i could hurt or kill myself or someone else. there was no warning of any problem. i don't want to update my documents on the internet but will submit once i have an nhtsa employee reach out to me. my records include a filed police report, a report with mazda corporate (as of today) and pictures of the vehicles which are available upon request.

12/26/2018 vehicle has 1500 miles on it. dry clean pavement, 39 degrees f, at night. slow speed, 15mph, normal braking in congested highway traffic, going straight, anti lock brake system activated and vehicle automatically braked very hard, vehicle behind struck our car from behind because they did not anticipate a very hard brake, conditions did not call for a hard brake. dash warning lights came on indicating "forward smart city brake support malfunction" and "front camera sensor system malfunction". only damage was to rear of vehicle, no injuries. very dangerous malfunction. will be bringing to dealership today , 12/27/2018. state troopers at scene and report filed, not yet on hand for submission. two photos taken minutes after the accident of dash attached.

Attempt to stop at light. brakes were engaged fully engine kept revving up. car kept going forward. in motion in city street. straight and braking. car has 496 miles.

1550 miles on my mazda cx 5. after picking my car up from marin mazda from supposedly being repaired i am driving home when the same resistance problem i took it in for happens again. feels like i am towing a very large tractor all the way home. i look under the car when i get there and notice that the ball joints, tie rod ends, some of my brake parts and many other parts are rusted. this is very concerning to me because marin mazda told me they took my brakes apart, cleaned them because there was a piece of dirt in there. dirt should not be able to get in the brakes. also this means that they saw the rusted parts on the brakes and suspension and said nothing to me, did nothing to fix them and sent me on my way telling me this car is safe to drive. i started doing some research on mazda's vehicles and found out that they have previously had to recall hundreds of thousands of their vehicles due to them being unsafe to drive due to rusted suspension and other rust issues. marin mazda knowing set me away with rusted suspension parts, brake parts and told me this car is safe to drive. ignoring my complaints about how the car is not operating right. after seeing the rust and taking my car back to the dealer marin mazda, one more time and them repairing nothing, i contacted mazda north american operations. informing them of the issues that i have been having my car was also damaged while it was at marin mazda for repairs this last time. there was still white grit from their stucco wall, from where only their service techs can drive the cars, embedded in my bumper/ paint. mazda corporate has done nothing about my car not being repaired even thou my complaints were duplicated by the service tech nor about the damage to my car that was proven to have happened at their shop and confirmed by the service manager. i told mazda corps representative dave about the rust as well.

1509 miles on my new mazda cx 5 purchased at marin mazda in san rafael ca. on may 22, 2018 this vehicle keeps having some kind of what feels like a wheel resistance issue. not sure if it is something happening in the drive train or transmission. also not sure if it has anything to do with the way the vehicle starts everyday - this car over revs itself when started first thing ticking very loudly, rattling , pinging all kinds of different noises. it is ticking so loudly because it is over revving itself and there is no oil throughout the engine yet. even after it stops over revving after a few minutes the car continues to have excessive engine noise the service advisor at marin mazda insists that this is normal for mazda's to sound like this & is ok. i don't believe him. this kind of start up everyday is going to cause problems in this engine quickly and premature failure of this cars engine. mazda dealers are concealing some defect that is causing this car to start like this. this is something that should have been disclosed to the customers before they sell this car. because it did not sound like this when i test drove it. that is because they take you inside while the car is warmed up so you can't hear it. that is concealing this major issue from the consumer. this is mazda's standards of doing business. concealing known defects of their vehicles then when a customer brings the vehicle in for repair they tell them it is operating as it was intended to by the manufacture. if this is correct then these things should have been printed on the window sticker on the car not concealed and not mentioned to the customers. this is very deceptive for mazda, it's dealers and representatives to hide and lie about the merchantability condition of this vehicle. because nobody wants to buy a brand new car that sounds like a rattle trap ghetto sled when it is started everyday.

June 4 2018 my brand new 2018 mazda cx 5 that i bought from marin mazda in san rafael ca driving on freeway at approximately 68 mph my car suddenly is slowing down- like self braking on its own- i was not braking- this was happing while i was accelerating -it felt like i was towing a large tractor - this resistance keeps recurring causing safety concern as well as bad gas mileage- while this issue is happening i get between 15 -17 miles per gal. - took pictures of fuel monitoring system. having to make my way to the nearest exit with cars honking at me was dangerous. car had 350 miles on it. took car back to marin mazda a couple days later for this issue and because it is very loud with excessive engine noise when started everyday. very concerning as to it being a new car. dealer said that's just how mazda's sound it's ok we didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. your car is fine. the wheel resistance you are feeling is probably because they spray stuff on the car to prevent rust before they ship vehicle, that coating just needs to burn off. so you need to drive it to burn it off. your car is operating the way it was intended to. really - this is not how any new car sounds or drives. i have a passenger with me at this time he also stated this was not a normal condition for any vehicle that is operating properly.

I purchased a 2018 mazada cx5 in april. in may i noticed that the brakes were hesitant to stop and that they also make grinding noise. i immediately contacted the service department at mazada. the service advisor told me that because the car was new it would make grinding noise and that they would eventually ease up. it is now november and the issue still exist. in june my passengers seat belt began having difficulty latching causing the censor to go off. this happens daily. in october my tire pressure light came on stating that the tire pressure was low. i placed air in my tires and the censor light never went off. on october 18, 2018, i went to the mazada dealership for a scheduled maintenance, informed the service advisor of my concerns and they stated everything was fine and the censor was reset. today is november 2, 2018 and my tire censor is back on. my brakes are still grinding and now they slide before stopping and my passenger seat belt still is not latching. this is a safety hazard to myself and passengers.

Unintended acceleration. i entered office parking building as usual. parking spot was on the right. slowly approaching i started to turn right with foot on brakes. suddenly car accelerated by itself and hit a concrete wall before i even realized what's happened. steering wheel airbag deployed, i got secured by the safety belt. front of my car is damaged. i'm terrified of driving the car due to this unintended acceleration issue.
