The second generation of the Mazda CX-5 (KF), a compact SUV, has been in production since 2017. It fits between the CX-3 and CX-7 in Mazda's lineup. At the end of 2021, the KF received a facelift, updating its appearance. Its predecessor is the CX-5 KE.
The CX-5 II offers two petrol models: the 2.0 Skyactiv-G (approximately 160-165 horsepower) and the 2.5 Skyactiv-G (around 194 horsepower).

Unfortunately, the new Skyactiv-X series engines didn't make it into the current generation. However, the two variants of the Skyactiv-G engines, which performed well in the predecessor and are particularly reliable, are still available.
The main issue with direct petrol injection engines is coking of the injectors and carbon deposits in the intake tract. Generally, this becomes a concern at higher mileages, but it should not be ignored.

The 2.2 Skyactiv-D diesel engine is available in several power levels (approximately 150, 175, and 184 horsepower).
Issues with cylinder head gaskets and camshafts, known from the KE, have been mitigated. However, the diesel particulate filter can still cause problems, especially for drivers who primarily undertake short trips.
Some owners have reported sudden activation of the engine control light and reduced engine performance. This was usually due to a faulty exhaust pressure sensor, primarily in older models.
The electric external mirrors often fail to fold in after going through a car wash or experiencing heavy rain. There have also been reports of faulty manual transmissions, although these seem to be isolated incidents.
The Mazda CX-5 II has been subject to multiple recalls. Some major recall actions affecting numerous vehicles include:
Tip: Detailed information about the recalls can be obtained from KBA or ADAC, and by using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), it's possible to check if a specific model is affected and what actions have already been taken.

Prices for a Mazda CX-5 II start at around 15,000 dollars in common used car markets. Most available vehicles are petrol models, with nearly half having manual transmissions. About one-third of these vehicles come with all-wheel drive.
