Early ghiblis are known to have an issue with the connection of the turbo waste gate actuator to the waste gate. there has been a recall campaign to add a clip to these cars to quiet rattling on that joint. my car had the recall performed, and subsequently began rattling again. i reported this to my service center and was told that the rattle i was hearing was normal, all ghiblis do it. several months passed and the rattle got worse, so i took the car to an independent mechanic who told me that not only are the clips to prevent rattling missing, but the c clips that hold the actuator on to the waste gate are missing. this is apparently a well-known issue to maserati that can result in engine damage if the waste gates fail to open, maserati refuses to admit that this is a faulty deign and repair the vehicle, and as i am out of warranty wants to charge me nearly $10,000 to replace both turbos.
