While driving down the road my car stalled and all dash lights came on. i was able to get to side of road. i thought it was a loose battery cable. checked everything and tried to start and it turned right over. then while driving i started to hear a knock then a boom and thud and the car shutoff. i was able to coast to the side of the road and wait for a tow. but now i have a 4 inch hole in the side of my engine and kia is saying my vehicles vin is not on the recall list.
For the past year or so, i've been experiencing an unknown issue. i'll be driving along, steadily and all of a sudden my engine and rpm gauge will rev up and then go back to normal. my speed doesn't change, no lights go on, just the rev-ing sound and the gauge goes up. it's very alarming to me. i've checked with kia and they're aware of the issue but state that there is currently no recall or alert as to what exactly the problem is or how to solve it. dealer said they had never had any other complaints about this. also reported accelerates slowly when setting at a stop light. they cannot find anything wrong,
Driving to work i heard a knocking in the engine. the car stalled all the lights on the dash came on. a rod had broken. took to local kia dealer and was told this is a common, frequent problem with this engine and while many other kia engines were recalled for some reason mine was note. there are many other complaints of the exact same thing happening with this car. i feel this engine should be recalled also.
I was driving at about 40mph with my 16 month old in the car and heard a dull knocking noice. as i approached a stop light my car stalled and the engine light came on. i turned my engine over again and it started up with the same knocking noice that got louder as i accelerated. i made it up the road to advanced auto who told me i needed it towed as it was likely my engine seizing. had it towed to my independent mechanic who confirmed a rod had come loose due to bad bearings and that i need a completely new engine. kia has told me that as a 2nd owner on a non transferable 10yr 100k mike warranty i am not covered also that my vin is not part of the sc147 recall although the same motor in other models of the same years had been recalled along with the other 300ish reports on here. 88k miles regular oil changes maintenance and inspections still owe on my loan and now have to come up with 7k to repair my now 7yr old car.
Catastrophic failure of the connecting rod. broke right in the middle of the rod. manufacturing defect.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 kia sportage. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, a tapping sound emerged from the engine compartment, and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (bev smith kia of fort pierce, 5655 s us hwy 1, ft pierce, fl 34982), where it was determined that total engine failure was experienced and that the engine needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage 85,000.
i own a 2015 kia sportage with 148,898 miles on it. never had any problems, i kept up with maintenance of the vehicle and get oil changes regularly. the last oil change was at 143,122 miles. four days ago i was driving on the high way and the check engine light and the oil light went on the car started to slow down and i could hear a knock in the engine. i immediately pulled over and got a tow truck to tow me to the closest mechanic. the mechanic said there was no oil in the car at all and it was bone dry but no signs of leaking. the engine is now ruined.
Engine light came on. rattling in engine. got code checked and p0014. did proper maintenance for the error and the sluggish engine and rattling persisted. i then took car for a diagnostic test which revealed metal in the oil and contaminated the engine. they recommend a new engine. this all took place in a two day span after driving on the highway to work one morning (the day the light came on).
While driving normally on the highway, i've continuously experienced the car randomly revving between 3000 and 4000 rpms while driving on the highway and on regular roads. it will get stuck at 2000 rpms and will not accelerate or decelerate no matter how hard the gas/brake is pressed. it has been taken to the dealership i purchased it from twice now, and both times they have told me they cannot find anything wrong with the car, no codes or anything. i do not feel safe in a car i'm paying $402 a month for. i have contacted kia corporate in atlanta and opened a case with kia consumer assistance online. waiting response from both. will not buy another kia after i lemon law this car. my family has always had kia's and never had any issue with them. i previously had a 2016 sportage that also had transmission problems.
