We noticed yellow streaks over time on the hood where the engine block and radiator are positioned. i have never had any trouble with overheating or any other problem of that nature. but eventually the clear coat began peeling and chipping in several different places on the hood where major engine components are located and now i am left with huge spots on my hood where the clear coat is missing. the underhhood insulation is in perfect condition. i assume there is a defect in either the clear coat itself or the insulation which prevents the heat from damaging the hood has failed to do so. i do not understand how this could possibly happen. the vehicle is only a 99 model kia sportage. it has only 93,000 miles on it. i have had recent recalls repaired and i am in hopes that this information will help to prove a defect in the hood insulation or the clear coat. *jb

The vehicle would not start at all. engine light appeared on dashboard. dealership was aware of the problem.
I am the owner of a 99 kia sportage with only 19000 miles on it bought new with only 10 miles on it back in 99. this suv has been nothing but problems from day one, with everything from the ac to the 4 wheel drive needing repaired twice in one day, to the most serious problem happening on 8-19-02 when my right rear anti sway bar bracket breaks away from where it was welded on the frame in the factory ( the org. welds just broke ) as my daughter and i are driving this suv home one evening causing this suv to be all over the road and uncontrollable. luckily no one was hurt or killed because of this. kia accepts no responsibilty for this. but it was there welds done in there factory when they made this suv. this is the kind of safe products that kia makes and the public needs to be aware of this fact and how much this co. values a human life.
Not only has the proportional braking valve failed,but also engine temp sensor,causing transmission failure, engine light came on,and hold light for the trasmission come on, and now the power window gets stuck open. we smell a faint smell of wire insulation burning,but service dept. said they couldnt do any thing until the brake light came on and stayed on. he said there was a short in the wiring harness.this makes twice. *ak

Engine check light keptcoming on while driving. taken vehicle to dealership & mechanic repaired it each time. engine check light would come on again. finally was informed the electrical system was the problem & no corrective solution was found. *ak
While pulling out of the garage vehicle stalled, and the garage door fell down onto the roof of the vehicle. also, alternator and the battery went completely out. engine check light was on for a week. in addition, when shifting gears, transmission wasn't shifting properly. passenger's side window was jammed and stuck half way up. finally, when applying the gas pedal there was a pounding noise, and no power within the vehicle. *ak
Engine check light comes on, indicating a problem with system which may cause a crash. dealer cannot determine the cause of the problem. also, manufacturer never notified consumer of two recalls on this vehicle. please provide further information. *ak
