I began hearing a loud knocking sound while i was driving. i stopped at a pep boys and the tech told me i should be fine to get home. after some time on the road my engine light began to flash and the oil light was on as well. i was able to get the car off the nearest exit and into a park and ride parking lot. the car at this point was smoking. i began to gather my things then i saw flames appear under the hood. that's when i exited the vehicle. the car was engulfed in flames within five minutes. i lost 2 ipads and my iphone. but we made it out safely! a good samaritan followed us off the highway. he has dash cam of my car that shows a spark go off underneath the car while we were still on the road.
Engine started hard in driveway and lacked performance when starting down the street. hoped it was a possible damp condition that morning as it never happened before and i continued off for work. after nearing work, it did not correct itself so when i got to work i took the day off to get it to the dealer. upon restarting it was the same however at the first stop it stalled and would not restart. kept trying for 10 min and if finally started and i drove it to the dealer. after a couple days the dealer stated it needed a new engine as the timing was off by 4 degrees. this condition made the car extremely dangerous for lack of power and others passing but i never dreamed it would need the engine replaced. byers kia in lewis center, oh service dept has not given me any information on what happened and why and has not given any further follow-up in 3 weeks!

In april 29, 2019 had safety recall (nhtsa recall #19v120) work done on my 2013 kia soul for the catalytic converter, now five months later my check engine light comes on. i have the check engine light check out at auto zone and o reilly auto store, the code error reading p0420 catalytic converter failing. i contract kia dealership service department in houston, texas. the service advisor informed me, 'that since i have 100k on the 2013 kia soul the car catalytic converter is not covered. i will have to pay out of pocket for repair of the catalytic converter.' i was also told by service advisor, the software (catalytic overheating protection) upgrade only for the recall. service advisor stated 'supposedly nothing was found on the diagnostic program for the software upgrade.' i explained to service advisor went in brought my 2013 kia soul for the recall, the check engine light was not on at all. service advisor informed me that need the contact kia motor. i send an email the kia motor company on the recall problem. on october16, 2019, the kia motor representative contract me about the recall problem. the kia motor representative stated 'i have to pay for them to check the recall diagnostic problem. the kia local dealership is not apart kia motor company. you are responsible for the repairs". it just funny those five months go by and all of a sudden there is a problem. i have been loyal kia customers for some time, until now. they will not check out the recall problem of free.
I took my vehicle to kia for two recalls and a performance issue with the engine; specifically, a loss of power and increased oil consumption. kia performed an ecu upgrade and replaced the catalytic converter related to recall# sc176. the recall also identifies internal engine damage to the pistons that result from overheating caused by high catalytic converter temperatures which was addressed by the ecu upgrade. i inquired about coverage for the damage to the engine; however i was told that the engine damage would not be covered by kia. an oil consumption test was performed and kia documented that 1 quart of oil had been consumed in the 1,000 elapsed miles (which exceeds the manufacturer's specification for normal rate of consumption), i was told that the engine would need to be replaced, and kia would not cover the cost. i was very surprised as the issues that i am having with the car are exactly the very same issues described in the recall.

My daughter was driving my 2013 kia soul, 2.0 engine, on the interstate when the car had a sudden lose of power. within a minute or so there was a loud pop and smoke rolling out behind. after being towed and inspected we see that the oil mid pan failed. there is a large crack in the cast aluminum just behind the oil filter. i was told this much back pressure in the engine probably means a clogged or faulty catalytic converter. i have noticed a lot of similar complaints from other kia owners. called kia and was told this in not covered by any warranty or recall. *as *tr

I was driving my 2013 kia soul, and i was turning across a busy intersection. as i was in the middle of crossing the intersection my car stalled out and i was almost in a very serious accident. if the oncoming car had not swerved it would have been a serious collision. since this incident, my car has been towed to a kia service center and evaluated. the kia technician stated that my car had metal shavings within the crankshaft oil passages, and the crankpins themselves may be too rough on the edges. as a result, oil may be blocked and cause the connecting rod bearings to wear, which would then cause them to fail and seize the whole engine. that, of course, would cause the car to stall during driving. this is the exact same problem that the other kia engines were recalled for. in addition to stalling this could cause the rods to pierce the engine and cause a fire. more lives are at risk because the kia recall is not complete. engines like mine, are still out there possibly causing serious and or fatal incidents. kia needs to expand the recall to the 2. engines as well. this is a manufacturing defect that needs immediate action. please expand the recall as this problem is still continuing in other kia soul engines not listed in the recall. *tr consumer stated my 2013 kia soul has been towed to the dulles kia dealership. they are saying that even though the issue my car is having is the same/ or similar to the other recalled kia soul engines, my engine is not listed on the recall. since it is not on the recall, i need a new engine at the cost of $6,200 dollars. my kia is a 2013, with 86,712 miles on it.*jb

on monday 06/17/2019 at approximately 4:15 i was on the expressway driving in traffic around 60 mph when my car started to make a ticking sound as i accelerated. thinking maybe it had something to do with my recent oil change i so i dismissed it initially. after another ten minutes my car i heard a loud clank under my car but i continued to drive thinking i may have ran over road debris. then i had a person in a white altima flag me down and told me i was on fire. i immediately pulled over on interstate 285 w in atlanta ga and lifted the hood where i witnessed my engine flaming from the bottom. i began dowsing the fire with my case of bottled water til it was under control. kia has a recall on my engine recall statusrecall incomplete summary kia motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the 2012-2016 my kia soul vehicles equipped with the 1.6l gasoline direct injection (gdi) engine. the defect may cause damage to the catalytic converter due to overheating, resulting in abnormal engine combustion and damage to the engine pistons. piston damage can result in a stall, increasing the risk of a crash. if a piston rod breaks and punctures the engine block, oil can escape, increasing the risk of a fire.

2013 kia soul+ 2.0l engine. merging into 50mph zone from one major roadway to another, my vehicle stalled during acceleration, and began making a thumping noise as i pulled over. as i stopped the car on the shoulder, the check oil light began flashing. i drove to a parking lot for a safe area, and called the company that recently changed the oil 4 days prior. they had it towed back to them for another look. they found that the oil pump was working correctly, but one of the pistons was not getting any oil and the rod had broken. i've owned this vehicle for approx. 7 months. i've never had a check engine light or any other indicators that an issue was pending.

Recall on car 19v120. kia states i need a new engine. my car is experiencing the exact symptoms of the recall (piston damage d/t subrate particles, excessive oil burning (2.5quarts per 900 miles), intermittent mil illuminating... kia states i need a new engine and they will pay for the engine, but not the labor. getting run around. kia states the engine damage is not because of the recall, yet they refuse to provide an explanation of what is causing the engine damage. they are also refusing to provide any diagnostic information. their reason that my engine has damage is because it's high mileage. this is a single owner, well maintained vehicle. the fact that the car has the exact damage as indicated in the recall and kia refuses to live up to their promise 'at no cost to you', not only has me questioning their loyalty to the customer, but also continues to put me and my family in a dangerous situation of driving a faulty car. yes, this has high mileage, yes, this is out of warranty, however, this is a recall, not a warranty issue and the recall should be honored 100%. i have advised kia corporate i am contacting you for assistance, since each rep tells me a different story. i'm told the case is being escalated, and have yet to hear anything. i've asked god speak with higher management and have been told that information is not available to give out.
This is the second complaint being filed reguarding this car. after we filed the first complaint we took our car back into the kia dealership for the check engine light flashing. they scanned engine and didn't find anything. they topped off our oil because it was half full. i just recently got my oil change done there 2,000 miles ago. according to the owners manual it should be done every 7,500 miles. the following day we were driving down the freeway, pulled off at our exit and smelled a horrid leak burning/ rotten egg/ sulfur smell. we immediately pulled of the road and checked the car for flames. we didn't find any. i'm really starting to feel unsafe about being in this vechiel.
Kia soul 2013 recall. we were driving home from work on the freeway going about 55mph and the check engine light started flashing. we rushed immediately to the kiadealership after hearing about the kia engine fires. they scanned our vechiel and saidone of the engine coils may stop working. they said our car could just stop working on the road and then we would need to tow it in. this doesn't sound like a clear explaination of the problem to me. i'm concerned we'll keep driving the car and it will catch on fire.
2013 kia soul 1.6l gdi. 77650 miles. problem 1 .two days ago while driving on the freeway my check engine light started flashing and i could tell it was having a lot of hesitation, even before it flashed i could notice something wasn't right. i immediately went to my local kia dealership and they ran a diagnostic on my car and could tell there is something wrong with cylinder 2. despite that no action was taken and i was told to keep driving the vehicle until i happened again. 2. i've been noticing my car is always low on oil. last time i had my oil changed they told me they couldn't even measure any oil on the dipstick. now yesterday when i was at the dealership same issue. it's only been 2k miles since my last service and it was almost 3/4of a qt low. i know it's normal for some oil to burn but that's way too much too quickly. 3. yesterday only 1 day after my check engine light flashed i noticed a really bad smell coming from my car when i got off the highway. i'd described it as a hot tin/sulfer smell. now i'm worried to even drive this car and i don't know what to do.
Engine shut down lost all oil. kia took it to dealership where they say it's because i changed my own oil and had a kink in filter. i have changed my oil for years do most of my own work build trucks for a living no way this is possible i changed the oil about 4 months ago it would have leaked the 1st time i drove it. kia corporate and dealer stand. be there tech. theres fixing to be a recall that describes my issue to the detail. the corporate lady i spoke to when it happend said it sounded just like the recall that's fixing to come out. had it towed to dealer then they back track. there is no way this is possible a mechanic i know said he has had 3 or 4 in the last 2 years come in his garage for same thing. anything yall can do to help me thanks. wife was driving to work like normal engine just died no noise no lights nothing

My car broke down last week, after getting it towed to the destination, low and behold it is the catalytic converter. i had to replace the cat, and am now worried that my engine, which is burning oil caused by the cat damaging the engine will catch fire, and i will not have enough time to remedy the situation. i get brought all around when i call kia, some say my car is being recalled, some say no, all i know is my car is showing every single symptom of the recall, and i feel they are taking an extreme risk not speeding up the process for the recall, and having more knowledge if i'm on the obviously similar symptoms of the recall or not. people have died from their negligence, and this wait game is giving me extreme anxiety and makes me scared to commute to work.
Was driving down the interstate when all the lights on the dash come on and the car shut down. has not cranked since.
Fuel efficiency had declined greatly over past month. car stopped working and had it towed. the kia dealership replaced the started but said the engine had a knocking and needs replaced. has only had kia work on it and all regular maintenance has been done. checked the recall and say my car is not covered, yet the engine failed out of the blue with no warning.

I was going down the freeway speed limit is 70mph my foot is on the gas and my car seems to decreased in speed no lights came on prior to my car shutting down(like check engine light or oil light etc) my kia soul has completely stopped on the freeway and only then does the check engine light come on this was back at the end of february 2019 couple of months go by i have no clue as i what's going on with my vehicle it's now may 2019 and i just got word from the shop that it's a piston which was the cause for my engine to die out
I just read about the recall for the catalytic converter overheating and causing oil leakage. my vin is not showing under the recall but my car is losing oil and the engine light came on. the mechanic says it is giving the code for the catalytic converter. my car is also losing power and i can hear a noise under the hood that sounds like metal hitting metal. the recall says it includes the 2013 kia soul with the 1.6 engine and i'm wondering if mine will be included in the recall.
Takata recall : check engine light comes on, stays on for a few days, then turns off for a few hours. the error code reads p0420. my fuel efficiency has significantly dropped and i have a significant loss of power as my car now struggles to accelerate. a smell similar to spray paint has been present inside the car on occasion. the engine has grown loud. however, my vin number is not pulling up any recalls. this does not make sense, given my specific issues with my vehicle.
