My headlights continue to blow out every few weeks, no matter what kind of bulb i use. last night while on a very dark and rainy road, both headlights went out forcing me to drive with my hazards with my children in the car. very dangerous. apparently, this isn't an isolated incident.
This headlight problem has been ongoing with kia and since i purchased this vehicle in 2016 with 26,000 miles. and i replaced many headlight bulbs then december 2019 went to dealership to get led safety daylight headlight bulb replaced. was told no bulb for it account it's encased in headlight assembly and to replace would cost over $900 for assembly. and told never seen that light ever go out. prior to this i already had the other headlight assembly replaced for constant lighting problems. which the dealership had in stock and that told me kia had a problem. vehicle now has 72,000 miles on it. i called kia assistance and told them of problem with lights and the free replacement of the other assembly. i was denied the claim even though i told them of all the lighting problems and complaints filed with nhtsa. they were on deaf ears. so here i am filing my complaint and hoping enough pressure is applied to kia that they recall all models with the problem.
The headlights have repeatedly burned out. i would estimate that i have replaced the right side low beam 8-10 times and the left side 3-5 times. it's been roughly a 2:1 ratio. this last time both headlights burned out within an hour of each other at night. fortunately i keep an extra bulb in the car and i was able to change out one of them so i didn't have to drive home with no headlights at all. this was a potentially dangerous situation. i have researched this and while i don't see a recall i do see that many owners have posted on forums that they're having the same issue. just as a point of reference my 2014 silverado had the headlights replaced in 2017 after an accident and have i have yet to replace a headlight while driving the chevy approximately the same number of miles as the kia.
The front headlights are dangerously low and i have to drive with high beams on at night. changing new bulbs doesn't fix the problem!
Lighting from headlights is too dim to drive at night. cannot see 5 feet ahead. bulbs were replaced. dealer adjusted them. still no change. dangerous to drive at night. i am limited to drive in daylight only as i cannot see to drive at night with 20/20 vision.
Burns out low beam headlights bulbs every 2 to 3 months
The right rear tail light is inoperable intermittently. i changed the tail light bulbs twice and it is still inoperable intermittently. there is no corrosion or burn marks on the socket. it was first brought to my attention when i was pulled over for a traffic stop due to the tail light being out. the police officer told me it is a safety issue as others cannot see me. when i got back home and asked my spouse to come out and look at it it was working again (15 minute span of time). it is not a fuse as all other items on this circuit are operable. it will be out and 30 minutes later it is working.
Tensioner belt for air bag randomly went out. also break lights constantly staying on. t gt ey couldn't figure out why at dealership. vehicle was parked
Sometime toward the end of 2018, i noticed that my dome light no longer illuminated when the doors were opened. i can still use the interior lights manually, though this usually leads to forgetting and leaving them on. i live in wa, it is often dark around 4 pm and grey throughout the day. i feel this is a huge safety issue, as i cannot see who is in my car before entering when in a parking lot. also, my 5-year-old has a hard time buckling her own car seat belt since she cannot see the buckle. this is an inconvenience and with crime rates rising, it makes me feel uncomfortable going out alone, knowing that nobody can see what is going on while i am buckling her in. the chances of being mugged or worse go up, my safety is worth the $400, however, i should not have to pay to have a malfunction in the vehicle fixed. the reason i feel this should be a recall is because of the 3 kia's we own, 2 of them have this same issue of the interior lights only working manually and not activated with opening the door. my husbands 2011 kia optima dome light stopped working when the doors were opened around november of 2017. both of us have over 60,000 miles on our vehicle at the time of the malfunction. my husband was quoted over $400 to have this repaired. when looking at forums, it looks as though it is a connection that wiggles loose. i am sure that if 2 of our kia's have this issue, it is highly likely many more kia owners have the same issue. kia should be responsible to fix this safety issue.
Noticed tonight driving in the dark that my low beam headlights were not working. the little small led lights above the lights work and my high beams work also.i find it hard that both low beams would burn out at the same time. all three green light indicators on my dash show that my lights are on or working along with my lower fog lights.
Have had taillight bulbs replaced on several occasions. as soon as one is replaced, another blows. some type of electrical problem. also, headlights are not adjusted downward. have had adjusted by dealership, but still cannot see at night! headlamps do not light road ahead of the vehicle.
Engine recall my vehicle is in the dealership for the engine recall i also had to have the steering wheel replaced 2 times due to wiring or button malfunctions. along with the usb port on the stereo. the issue happened again after the warranty coverage ended for that part and they refuse to fix it again after warranty even though it has been a known issue. the usb port comes loose constantly and will not work- they want me to buy a whole new radio to correct this. the volume button on the steering wheel has had issues in the past and now no longer works... again they want me to get a new steering wheel to correct this...
I have a 2014 lx with nothing special other than heated front seats. regular ignition, 6cyl with almost 148k miles. issue 1- at approx 100k my dash started lighting up with abs, e-brake, trac, and tps lights. ebrake and tps were intermittent and only came on after it rained it seemed. after plugging it up and getting no codes i took it to the dealer june 2017 and they informed me it was no big deal but it was part of a recall for a sensor. however, kia had not provided them with the necessary tools to fix it. it's now august 2018 and i am still waiting. issue 2- at approx 130k miles my steering controls for bluetooth and radio stopped working. the radio itself works, but when attempting to seek or adjust volume with steering controls the voice command pops up. issue 3- at approx 145k cruise control stopped working. i can turn it on and set speed, but in less than a mile it disengages. i have found if i turn off the eco it works as it should. issue 4 i found today. after getting a message from a random stranger through my advertised business on the back window i was informed that i have no brake lights except for the one on top (third). i just replaced them in july after a random stranger told me that they were out. when i got the message (after making my 60 mile commute to work) i grabbed a coworker to come out and troubleshoot with me. we checked fuses and they are fine. third light works, tail lights work, turn signals and backup lights work. we took apart the tail light assembly and pulled the bulbs to check them and the bulbs are still intact (filament still completely intact) but the bulbs are charred black and the harness socket appears to have gotten extremely hot. also the bottom of the bulb is glossy like it melted.
Low beam head lights go off automatically. have to turn the head lights back off and back on before they work again. only happens in the beginning of the drive. i bought new head lights did not fix the problem.
The headlights and tail lights continuously blow the bulbs and the brake light housing looks to be brown like it overheated on the drivers side. also the steering wheel controls have a mind of there own, you push say the volume down key and the voice recognition comes on none of the buttons on the driver side seem to do what they are supposed to do on the steering wheel
Headlight lo beam quits functioning even though bulb is good. removing and reinstalling sometimes starts it again. sometimes just bumping it makes it work. currently i can not get it to work again and the bulb looks good. began 5/25/2018
Both reverse light assemblies have been melted by the backup lamps causing a potential fire hazard.
My front headlights keep going out. i've owned this vehicle for 3 years. it was purchased new. this is the 3rd time i've had this problem with this vehicle. i always drive with my headlights on, regardless if it's daytime or night. sometimes the lights will function properly and other times the headlight(s) won't. i'd on occasion pop open the hood and using a closed fist, hit the top of the assembly and the light would go on.......now it will not go on no matter what i do. like i mentioned earlier, this is the 3rd time this has happened. the first 2 times i had the dealership that i purchased the vehicle at repair the problem at my cost. now i read blog pages that this is a common problem for several kia models but no safety recall has ever been issued. how can having no working headlights not be a safety issue. ??
Lights keep going out. seems every couple of months either headlights rear lights or break lights need to be replaced.
Air bag light on, headlights will turn off when in auto mode when i use left turn signal steering wheel controls not working or work improperly ie volume control will change radio station or advance track on media back up camera will black out while still in reverse
There appears to be an electrical issue that kia won't own up to. the battery is constantly dying after being checked and is good. lights constantly go out i have replaced break lights headlights and taillights several times in last year. the airbag passenger side airbag does not go off. the steering panel does not control all functions. i am concerned this will lead to further difficulties with this vehicle.
In the past 3-4 months i have replaced my battery twice the 1st time i had my truck about 2.5yrs so i didn't think much of it but i had the same problem after replacing battery within 3-4 months battery would die i would get a boost after a few days same thing happen again. electrical system seems out of wack when i use left turn signal my headlights will go off until i turn the turn signal off, also my steering wheel controls will not operate the right feature ie i would hit mute but it will not mute but act as if it is the volume down control air bag light for passenger would come on even if no one was in the seat
I had this car for one year and i have replay the lights 7 seven times and no one can tell me why. when i'm driving at night i have to use my high beams in order to see someone needs to do something asap. i fear for my life and my kids everyday when we get in this unsafe car. the lights on but the road looks dark at night all the time it's been going on for a year now. please help me my cell [xxx] and my email address [xxx] thank u information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I just purchased this vehicle and the headlights are either very dim or have bad display. i can't really see anything at night and drive with my high beams on and even those are all that bright. i was figuring there has to be a recall of some kind, apparently not.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 kia sorento. while the contact's son was driving, the vehicle started to make a knocking noise. the contact's son noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. on several occasions, the headlights and tail lights failed without warning. the contact stated that he previously replaced the lights several times, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to a kia and hyundai dealer at 601-914-4200 where it was diagnosed that the engine had burned oil and needed to be replaced. the headlight and tail light failures could not be duplicated and would be repaired at the owner's expense. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 12391217. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). the failure mileage was 70,000.
Headlights (low beams) will blow out when driving at least once a month. very unsafe while driving. this has been an on going problem with this vehicle.
I have two major safety hazards going on with my vehicle that i fear for the safety of my 4 children and wife when we're driving on the highway, and other fast roads. the first issue is the electrical. it first started back around 40,000 miles when i took my kia to a kia dealership in naperville, il and they told me both low beams were out, so they replace them. ever since, i've been replacing these bulbs every 3-6 months because they keep blowing out while driving and it's against the law to use high beams, so i'm driving in pitch black. now, just 3months ago, both of my brake lights go out, at the same time. three years ago my back up camera stopped working, and hasn't worked since. at 57k miles my engine was recalled for engine failures, ad within the last 6 months i've experienced stalling, stuttering, knocking while driving on high ways, at red lights, in traffic. furthermore, in september 27, 2019 my engine oil was completely undetectable on the dip stick when i took it in for a routine oil change at 99,664 miles. also, back at 64,977 miles during routine service, it was low. with these concerns, i took my kia in today to the gerald kia north aurora, il, they ran diagnostics and said everything was perfect. they said they cannot explain why my bulbs keep burning out. the tech manager also stated that the stalling and knocking in my engine is because my engine had no oil in it. he checked for leaks, and didn't find any leaks. my last oil change at a jiffy lube, they told me the same thing at 99,664 miles, it was almost dry. at todays service, mileage is 102,554. that means 5 quarts of oil burned up in 2,890 miles or most likely way sooner because after 1.5 months of the oil change i started experienced stalling, knocking, stuttering in the engine, so that must have been at only 1000-1500 miles. i put in a claim with kia consumer affairs, but i'm not satisfied.
The headlamps are frequently going out and require to be replaced. i live in a state where headlamps are required in rain (so many times i am in violation) and the roads are not well lit at night. even when the headlamps are working properly, they are inadequate.
The specs for the adjustment of hid lights are requiring the lights be set too low (not shining far enough) the road in front of the vehicle is illuminated for a few yards only, and the high beam light shines only as far as the low beam of me previous vehicles. this is very dangerous if one drives on a freeway at the allowed speeds (in some states this is 80 m/h). in my incident i was driving on i 80 in nebraska at about 12 am and did not see a chunk of truck tire laying on the roadway. i drove over the piece which subsequently was propelled under my vehicle and destroyed the protective plastic shield for the brake lines and tore off the fumes canister of the gas tank. both could have ended up in a rather dangerous condition, and one has to ask, is a plastic shield the proper protection for these components? this would not have happened if the headlights would have illuminated enough of the road in front of the car which in turn would have allowed for an evasive maneuver. *tr
Cannot read or extremely difficult to read the speedometer in daylight most of the time. worse on brighter days. must take eyes off road for several seconds to find needle to determine speed. illumination is fine at night or in very shaded areas (ie garage). seems as if instrument illumination reduces based on amount of interior light, even with illumination dial on max. not wearing sun glasses and have tried multiple combinations of headlight/dtrl in an effort to find a workable solution. dealer service says "working as designed". this is a major safety flaw as one cannot readily determine their speed without taking their eyes off road for too long a period of time. in its current state this car is unsafe to drive.
