Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while operating the vehicle, a grinding noise was present coming from the engine and the oil consumption was approximately one quart per every 600 miles. the vehicle was taken to kia of laurel (14921 baltimore ave, laurel, maryland), but no failure was located. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine) in 2016 and the engine was inspected. the failure mileage was 110,000.
The vehicle was being driven down the highway and it began knocking. it was pulled over almost immediately (within a mile). oil was checked and although it had regular service, it registered low. after about a half a quart of oil was added, the oil registered at proper level. when trying to re-start the engine it failed to start. the vehicle was towed to dealership where it was determined that the vehicle had catastrophic engine failure and would need a complete engine replacement. price quoted was $15,000! they claimed this was due to the engine needing to be replaced with a smaller block (they don't make the 3.5 l anymore) and the modifications that it needed. the car was purchased used, had 125,054 miles on it and had no warning prior to the initial knocking that occurred on that day.
My car is starting to rattle on cold starts only. it now has 142000 and still has the issue. i took my car to summit place kia and they said my car doesn't fall under technical bulletin 140 even though it falls under the engine type and manufacture date. i do routine maintenance with records and they said i missed the replacement window because i bought the car used. after reading multiple other complaints they have had the same issue then complete engine failure. when will kia take responsibility and replace the engines that they manufactured incorrectly? i have been dealing with kia since june of 2018 to help resolve this issue because 140 describes the issue to the exact problem and the sound provided matches the same issue i have. bulletin 140 describes what needs to be fixed and how it needs to be fixed but kia wont replace the defective problem and wont take responsibility for it
While driving on highway 50 about 20 miles from south lake tahoe my car just stalled out while traveling at the speed of about 55 mph. steam/smoke from coming from the front end. as i pulled over to the side of the road other motorist traveling west bound started honking and pointing to the vehicle. after stopping is when we realized the engine area was on fire. after opening the driver side door the flames shot out from under that car causing 3rd degree burns to the back calf on my left leg. the car was in totally in flames within 5 to 10 mins.
I started experiencing stalling issues in april 2018, had the dealership that i bought it from inspect it and i was advised to change the crankshaft position sensor and the battery. i changed both and the the motor ran fine for around 3000 miles. i was drivong down the highway at 60mph when the vehicle shut off with no warning, oil lamp or check engine light. the vehicle wouldn't start up after stalling. towed the vehicle to my brother's house, tried to start it a few days later, when it cranked over there was a horrible screaching sound followed by knocking from the engine. towed the car into kia in waco and they have denied repairs because my vehicle isn't covered under the recall. i recieved the run around regarding what exactly is broken. the only answer i get is "we know its got broken parts onsode, but we don't know what." i believe that they didn't even perform an inspection, just denied based on not recalled under vin. kia sent me an interim notice as well as another notice stating my engine will be covered for 10 years and 120k miles die to the engine bearing clearance issue. kia doesn't have a record of notified vehicle owners amd is telling me i'm lying by saying i recieved any notification because they have no record. its already been proven that kia has hid the defective internal engine parts. i was quoted $7300 for an engine without labor.
2012 kia sorento -similar to others, oil pressure light and check engine light came on. rattling noise heard during acceleration. my mechanic informed me main rear seal blown. called kia and learned my engine is not included in the current recall. after reading other reports, seems like kia may need to expand the recall to include other engines in the same time frame.
Our 2012 kia sorento started having the exact same problems as all the other motors that were on recall for bad bearings. i never got a check engine light. it would die randomly on me. once died on me on the freeway with me and my 5yr old. luckily i was not around anyone or it could have been very tragic. i loved that car, and now it's just sitting at kia dealership collecting dust and not being used with less than 100k miles on it. this is not a owner issue. this is a manufacturing defect. even the dealership said it was bad bearing and it should be covered. yet we can't get this issue fixed because they don't want to help us, and yet have all these bad reviews on not wanting to help out their customers. so it's just sitting at the dealership rotting away because we refuse to pay for a manufacturing defect.
I was driving a 2012 kia sorento with three other passengers and our family dog. i see smoke coming from back of my car thought it was the car passing me since my car was in mint condition with a new engine and new transmission. i look again there is no car going the opposite way and now i see a lot more smoke. cars coming the opposite way are flashing me and waving so i figured i'm probably over heating. i steer to the right on a steep hill the brakes and emergency brake doesn't work i quickly throw it into park the gears are gone so no park. at that point we see flames shooting at us. my daughter and i open our doors the car is slowly rolling down the hill, the door hits her she goes flying the car almost runs her over. i take the car and i'm holding the 4,000 pound car back from rolling down the hill so the kids and dog in the back seat can get out. they finally figure out how to manually unlock the doors, grabbed the dog by the collar. i let go of the car it was engulfed in flames rolled down the hill and started to explode. what a horrifyingly experience.
The kia was being driven on a highway in june of 2018 when the engine just froze up and stopped working. the check engine light came on after the engine stopped. the car was full of oil and being property maintained. the car was towed to the kia dealership in killeen. initially, the dealership employee said the kia engine could not be repaired, they said the engine was blown. i called kia corporate and once they were involved, i was told it needed a short block and it could be reapaired. kia corporate has agreed to pay for just over half the reapair (around $3500) if i pay the other part (around $2500). they keep pushing out the date the new short block will be delivered. after researching kia sorrento recall online, i firmly believe my kia should have been under the recall for the other 2012 kia sorrentos.

I have a 2012 sorento and the engine died in it at 123k miles. i dont know what happened but i kept up and maintain the maintenance on it. i done tune up ,oil changes flushes that needed to be done. my sorento has become a member of my family and the kids call her miss kia!!😂. i look for recall and didn't see any for my sorento. its gonna cost about 5k to fix out of pocket😱😱😓. which means its gonna take awhile to get her up and rolling again. im still making payments on a car that doesn't run. i wish you guys would consider fixing our car. im not sure how many people are having issues with this but the kia shops didn't see the engine going either. we are renting cars to travel to and from work weekly and its hard to save when you keep spending to travel to work and from work. please help us get miss kia up and rolling again. if you have any questions please call at [xxx] and my name is [xxx]. thanks and have a great day. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
We were driving on the 10 east from california heading home to phoenix, az on june 14th. at approx. 12:30pm pst at a cruising speed of 75 mph we approached the long step hill and half way up the hill the engine ceased. we were driving in the left lane and the right lane had many semi- trailer trucks passing us. luckily we were able to drift the sorento with no engine power to the right side of the safety shoulder- this could have been a situation with my wife, me and my 11 year daughter as fatalities since losing power up fill as semi-trailer trucks pass you by is extremely dangerous and perilous. we had to get a tow truck to tow the kia to an independent mechanic in bermuda dunes. his analysis was the engine would not crank over/no signs of over heating, batter levels in good condition, and engine completely seized. we had to tow the sorento on june 15th to palm springs kia dealership where the car has been up to this report's writing july 15th -- one full month. kia palm springs ran their test and said the engine did cease up but no "sludge" in the oil hence no oil issues. when i asked for the technician's report- monica at palm springs kia said there was no report available for me to review.. monica entered a " good will service case" for me . i had to contact kia consumer affairs a total of 10 times before finally an escalated affair manager lyle clark said kia motors inc. will not be offering any assistance in replacing the engine or any help and that basically i have to take up my case with palm springs kia-- who by the way advised i contact kia consumer affairs in the first place. no ownership, accountability or compassion by kia. many kia engines are ceasing and one day fatalities will happen. now i have a broken kia in palm springs and the terrible feeling of being dismissed by kia and they only want me to fix it so they can get paid for this indignity.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while driving approximately 35 mph, a ticking sound was heard from the engine compartment when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (bob sight independence kia, 1700 s noland road, independence, mo 64055) where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed replacement. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 107,000.
Car repaired by recall due to noises in the motor. motor changed. noises continued. car broke down in the highway. lost power and it was in fumes and smoke. lives in danger. car towed to kia service in libertyville , il. staff indicated that pistons blew up.. whole motor changed again. after three weeks car did not work at and.. broke in the night while my wife was going to take care of an emergency call to a hospital. kia towed again. motor changed third time. at service since july 19, 2018. it has been promised to be delivered to me again tomorrow wednesday 8/14/208. family and myself afraid to ride the kia sorento again. car with noises since 2016. they have been using rebuilt part to change the motor. current miles 82,000.
Engine is consuming a large amount of oil this has occurred around the engine going over 90,000 miles. in speaking with the kia dealership, they state it is common for an engine of this age to burn oil. the engine burns about a quart every 500-600 miles. this seems excessive.
My car stalled out in the middle of the road while driving on a city street. i took it to the kia dealership certain it had to be the engine safety recall. they said it was not, blamed the issue on something else and charged me over $1,000 to fix it. i took the car home again. the next morning, it stalled again while driving in the middle of a main city road. i heard a knocking sound from the engine and then it died. kia is putting my family's lives at risk.
Existed the freeway, stopped at 2 stop lights with other cars with no indication of trouble. started forward from light 100+ yards and maybe 20 mph when fire erupted from under the engine compartment with large flames. i pulled to side of the road and fire burned from motor compartment into dash and ceiling of passenger area. vehicle is totaled! the engine had been replaced by kia on a recall just 5 months ago. only about 9000 miles on the new engine!
116,000 miles. i have been changing the oil every 2k miles since i found out about an engine problem with my make/model. no matter how many engine flushes and engine cleaners i use it burns oil like crazy. yesterday i drove 1 block from my house before realizing the car was not accelerating beyond 20 miles per hour. no matter how hard you step on the gas it won't reach more than 2 on the rpm dial.
Vehicle stalls while in motion and when stopped. when it stalls in motion, there is no steering or brakes. awd kicks in for no reason and will not go off. i had the vehicle checked and both the map sensor and vcma actuator were both replaced as recommended by the diagnostic computer. i did have a tune up on the vehicle one day prior so i had hoped the spark plugs were the problem. problem resumed one day after bringing home from shop. i called kia after seeing there was a recall in may of 2017 that covered certain sorento models that were stalling, however i was told mine was not a part of this recall. i don't know what to do now other than to take it to kia and spend enormous amounts in repairs.
At about 80,000 miles during routine oil change, they told me it was 4 quarts low. i did oil changes regularly before this (every 6 months / 5,000 miles). the engine consumed (burned?) 1 quart every 1000 miles. now at 93,000 miles on the odometer, the engine is burning 1 quart every 500 miles.
My mechanic said my engine seized on me. i was driving on a highway which turns into a city street and the car stopped on me and when i turned the steering wheel right to get off of the busy street it was difficult to turn. i then tried to start the engine, all the lights came on but there was no noise when i turned the key. smoke started coming out of the engine on the passenger side. i had to get the car towed and the mechanic said the engine seized on me. there were no warning signs. i called kia but they said my car does not qualify for a recall because it is not a gdi model, even though it falls into the same year for the engine recall. i called kia to see how much it would cost to get the engine replaced and was told they discontinued my engine model. so they told me my best bet would be to search for a used engine in a junk yard.
My son was driving our 2012 kia sorento and as he exited the freeway to the service road and approached the intersection which was on an uphill grade, the engine suddenly stalled. he lost braking and steering control on the car. the car rolled backwards into the car behind him and collided with the car resulting in $1,820 damage to the other car. the engine had seized and threw a rod into the vehicle starter.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. the contact stated that there was an extremely loud and abnormal noise coming from the engine compartment. the contact stated that the brake and engine indicators illuminated, and the vehicle drove roughly. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) and 15v626000 (power train), but the contact had not received the recall notices. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available. parts distribution disconnect.
The car was in motion (~30 mph) when the engine stalled and smoke came out of the drivers side hood. i put the car in park, exited vehicle and it erupted into flames. the car was completely burned within minutes. the engine was replaced by kia under warranty january 2018; less than 2 weeks later the starter was replaced because the car failed to start when parked and off. the catalytic converter was replaced march 2018 because the car was losing power and a strong gas odor was detected. the car fire occurred 2 days after it was picked up from this repair.
After just having a faulty starter replaced on this car (which they charged us over $800 to do, and they refuse to pay for it, even though it is their issue), we started to notice the oil light would go on and off while stopping. we then noticed oil leaking, contacted kia, after we looked up the issue we see this was a known issue with the oil pressure sensor leaking, which a recall was issued for canada but not u.s. (even though they come from the same plant). they charged us over $300 to do, they will not pay for it. they refuse to assist us with any issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. the contact heard an abnormal knocking noise coming from the vehicle and then the motor failed to function. the dealer (crain kia of sherwood, 5830 warden rd, sherwood, ar 72120, (501) 542-6042) diagnosed that the engine assembly needed to be replaced. the dealer further stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but refused to provide goodwill assistance due to the vehicle's high mileage. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle would need to be repaired by the dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000. *tt *tr
This is the second time i have had this problem with this suv. while driving down the road oil pressure light comes on. i pull off the road right away and shut off. then i noticed trail of oil on road behind me. i get out and look under front of car and see oil running out on to the ground. cost $700.00 last time when repaired. replaced main seal on motor and replaced oil sending unit. watched you tube video they said looks like main seal leak but is actually oil pressure sensor. located under intake manifold and oil runs out end of motor. by transmission and looks like main seal leak. but it's just a $18.00 oil sending unit. that's leaking.
I had a few problems with my car, one of them is that my car made a big rattle noise while driving at about 45mph in the street, i call kia made an appointment took the car and when they got back to me they said it was the throttle need it to be replace ($500) then the started ($600) i have replace this 2 times already, then the drive belt idler pulley and the brake lights go off very often, and so on. make story short my car was in the safety recall, my car as showed all the signs, rattle noise, the oil light goes on and off the dashboard i have spend a lot of money in this car but they refuse to replace the engine. i received a second safety recall number 17v224 on october 17, 2017. and then another notice from kia saying they extended the warranty on my car to 120,000 miles. on my point of view that doesn't fix the problem.
My kia sorento died by the side of the road ' stalling repeatedly while i was driving and, of course, steering wheel locks up ' and was told eventually that the engine seized up. they had to replace engine (at my cost, of course) as warranty not considered valid by lack of enough maintenance records.
My engine was replace on original recall. i keep bringing it back for overheating and running hot and they keep telling me nothing is wrong. is there a defect in the replacement engine afraid to drive my car car it does not get hot until you drive it for a while or long trip
Depressed push to start button, the car made a high-pitched squeeling and grinding sound from under the hood, but was not running. could not get the sound to stop. eventually stopped after 3-5 minutes. restarted the car this time it started, drove the car with no issues for 3 days. depressed push to start button loud sound came from under engine sounded like the starter was engaged but not turning over the motor. could not get it to stop, started smelling a strong electrical smell, after about 5 minutes it stopped sounding as if the starter burnt up. had car towed to kia dealership in muncie, in. they diagnosed it as a bad starter due to the high cost of starter through the dealership, had the vehicle towed to the local repair shop, he installed new starter, once new starter was installed engine will not turn over, mechanic advised engine was locked up.
Driving down the road when all of a sudden all the lights on my dash board came on and the car shut off. luckily i was able to get off road and into a driveway. had vehicle towed. the dealership told me my engine locked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while driving 65 mph, the engine failed without warning. the contact heard a loud bang and observed a huge cloud of black smoke emerging from the vehicle. the check engine and other instrument panel warning indicators illuminated. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the shoulder of the road where it caught fire from underneath near the transmission. a police report was filed. the fire department extinguished the fire. kia of lancaster (1608, 5250 main st, east petersburg, pa 17520) was made aware of the fire and stated that the exhaust hanger had melted. it was determined that rod #4 blew into the transmission, which caused the engine to fail. there were no injuries. the failure mileage was 81,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). while driving 45 mph, the vehicle lunged, jerked, and lost power. the vehicle was taken to hawkinson kia (5501 miller cir dr, matteson, il 60443, (708) 720-8999) to have the recall repair performed. while at the dealer, the engine software was updated. after the repairs, the failures occurred multiple times. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 105,286.
Thursday morning, i was driving to work. i made out of my neighborhood, and past the gas station and all of a sudden all my lights came on and as i tried to press the gas, no speed at all. i looked and realized that my truck completely shut off while i was driving and i was able too mange to pull over to the side of the road. want the battery. later was informed that my engine locked up..... now waiting to see what the issue is. i have no pictures or documentation yet, as i had the vehicle towed to the kia dealership. will ask more about this when i pick it up.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while driving 15 mph, the contact was alerted by another motorist that the front passenger side low beam headlight was out. a week later, the engine seized. the vehicle was towed to team kia of el cajon (located at 541 n johnson ave, el cajon, ca 92020, (619) 444-7200) where it was diagnosed with needing a new engine and low beam headlight bulb. the vehicle was repaired, but the headlight failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 90,000.
I had been hearing a noise and mechanic asked me to bring into his shop to take a look. on my way to the shop my car suddenly stopped. mechanic had it towed to his shop, they checked everything and all looked good. when they tried starting the engine it was frozen. i had no engine light warning at all.
There is a recall on 2012 kia sorento engine but my vin will not show up that there is a recall. my engine seized with only 69000+miles on it and just like all the other recalled vehicles. i was driving one day and my car suddenly shut down. no engine light or oil light. i had to get a jump to actually get my care started again. after the jump my engine started making a loud knocking sound. my care has never gave me any indication that there was any problems or any random sounds. now i am either forced to pay over 5 grand for an engine for a car that i have only had for 2 years or buy a new car. i am also still making payments on this car.
My main rear seals of my engine began to leak oil.
Our car started showing engine problems. it was blowing big puffs of smoke out not the exhaust when accelerating, it was very sluggish, it would also try to stall out here and there. we had it towed to the dealer. it is part of the recall for the engine. they "tested" it and said the engine passed but took a video of the smoke coming from the exhaust and sent it to their techs to see how to resolve the issue. now waiting on an answer. no transportation has been provided. paid out almost $300 in the last week for a rental. the dealership basically told us we were on our own transportation wise.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. while stopping or making a left turn at low speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause ofthe failure could not be determined. the dealer (peak kia littleton/denver, 5077 s wadsworth blvd, littleton, co 80123 (303) 562-0442) was contacted, but an appointment was not made due to the diagnostic fees. the manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. the contact researched the failure online and found many other complaints. the failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact took the vehicle to ray skillman southside auto center (8424 u.s. 31 s, indianapolis, in 46227 (317) 888-9500), but no issues were found. the contact stated that the vehicle received a routine oil change on the day of the recall inspection. the contact stated that the oil pressure warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent shop where the oil level was checked and recorded low as well, but no leaks were found. the vehicle was then taken back to the dealer were they also found the oil level to be low with no oil leaks. the vehicle was set up for an oil consumption testing. the contact stated that at 2,000 miles, the vehicle showed excessive oil consumption. the contact was informed by the dealer that the engine needed replacement. since the vehicle was already inspected per nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) and the engine was not making noise, the engine could not be replaced under the recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
After 88,000 miles, the sorento's engine started making a loud sound while driving at highway speed. the engine stayed on but continued to make a loud sound. the car was towed to peak kia in littleton, co where it was determined that a new engine was needed at a cost of $7000-$10,000 dollars. the vehicle had regular oil changes up to this point. the dealership checked an my vin number and said that i didn't qualify for the recall for engine particles. as a second owner, i did not have access to the 10 year warranty. i feel as if the recall needs to be expanded and honored. my 5 year old well maintained car had no reason to have catastrophic engine failure. i believe this is a manufacturing defect that is dangerous and that is effecting owners across the country.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 kia sorento. the contact stated that there was an abnormal knocking noise progressing near the engine compartment area and, upon exiting a ramp, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle could be restarted, but the noise continued. the vehicle was parked at the contact's residence. the contact was included in a recall but not yet notified of nhtsa campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 77,000. parts distribution disconnect.
On 09/10/2017 while driving a 2012 kia sorento down the highway i heard a rattling noise from the engine with a loud bang a few seconds later.there was smoke coming from under the hood. i researched and found that on 03/17/2017 kia announced a recall for 2012 sorentos. kia's recall: sc147: " bearing wear may result in engine seizure" this is on kia's and nhtsa's websites. [ nhtsa campaign # 17v224000 "machining errors during the engine manufacturing process may cause premature bearing wear within the engine"] i contacted kia's customer service at 1800-333-4542 and bethany told that my 2012 kia sorento was not eligible for the recall because the vin # was not part of the recall. she said that i could take it to the dealer and they would check the other 2 recall though. when the vehicle was towed i looked under the vehicle to see oil pouring out from a 3 inch hole in the block, toward the rear of the vehicle, where the thrown rod broke the block. oil is changed every three months and the vehicle has 120,129 miles on it. the cost of a used engine alone is near $3000, plus labor to install a motor that could do the same thing. i would like kia motors to replace the defective engine with a new engine at no cost.
On 08/10/12017 while driving my 2012 kia sorento on i-40. i heard a "rattling noise" from the engine. as i slowed down the sound got louder. i turned on a side street into a safe area and parked my vehicle. there was smoke coming from under my hood. i opened the hood and saw 2 small patches of fire. i was able to put them out, then ran to a best western hotel and asked for a fire extinguisher in case a fire would erupt again. i researched and discovered that on 03/17/2017 kia announced a recall for 2012 sorentos. kia's recall: sc147: " bearing wear may result in engine seizure" this is on kia's, nhtsa's , pbs and forbes websites. [ nhtsa campaign # 17v224000 "machining errors during the engine manufacturing process may cause premature bearing wear within the engine"] i contacted kia's consumer affairs # and the person told that my 2012 kia sorento was not eligible for the recall. he said my vin # was not part of the recall. i had just returned with my family 1 day prior from a trip to mobile, al. (1500 miles round trip). on 08/12/17 i had my vehicle towed to battleground kia where the advisor & technician showed me the problem a "thrown rod".this hole is 3" to 4" diameter. (pictures attached). i asked what could have caused the rod to be thrown? i had my oil changed on schedule the latest was 07/26/2017. this vehicle has 123,937 miles on it. he replied he didn't know what caused it. on 08/15/2017 i was informed that to replace the engine with a used one with 99,000 miles was $6400 plus labor. [that is about 24,000 miles less than mine current mileage with the same potential problem lingering to happen again] it is obvious that the problems with the recall engines are identical with mine. i would like kia manufacturing to replace my defective engine with a new engine and rental vehicle at no cost to me. i'll like to partner with the local dealership to rectify this. updated 08/31/2017*js
We have a kia sorento 2012. passengers smelled gas 4.5 hours into a 5 hour trip to philadelphia. stopped at rest stop and did not think it was coming from car. we drove approximately another 30 mins into philadelphia and got off the highways onto local streets. jogger on side of road flagged us down with "your car is on fire!" we pulled to side of road and got out of the car. the kia sorento's engine was on fire. a local fire department arrived and put out the engine fire with water. no injuries.
As i came around a bend at about 20 mph, my 2012 kia sorento died. there was no warning, and no check engine light. i was on a city street, and had just pressed the brake pedal to slow down for the turn. thankfully i was able to pull into a parking lot, and not driving on the highway with my children. i tried to crank the car again, and it started, ran for a brief moment, sounded normal, then died. i tried twice more with the same result, then called a tow truck to get home. we called the dealership the next day to notify them of the issue, and they sent out a tow truck. when they tried to crank it, it ran rough and then died. we are awaiting approval from corporate kia, as we believe that this is related to the engine recall they have issued.
I have had documented engine issues identical to the symptoms described in the recall sc147 communication. i am attaching documentation of these engine concerns, specifically hiccuping/sputtering/skipping idle and near stall-outs. today i went to the kia dealer and was informed that my engine did not qualify for any repairs because it passed the brief test they did on it. the purpose of this communication is state that i do not accept the conclusions of the kia dealer today and i formally requested to the kia corporation that the engine on my kia vehicle be repaired promptly to correct the issues identified in recall sc147. the engine in my kia vehicle has has documented issues identical to the sc147 issues since i purchased and still does today. given this, i am concerned about the safety of my family -- my engine may stall out put my family in harm's way. at this time, i am awaiting communication from kia corporation.
