I was driving headed to get on the hi-way, heard a noise and a whine and then my car began to run bad. shaking and like no power steering or something. as i was trying to stop and pull over there was a rattling sound. i am being told 2 things. but they all come down to a bolt that is said to have come loose and cause damage to the camshaft and harmonic balancer. which i have seen several complaints about and your company is not owning this issue or assisting to have the issue repaired or recalled and research shows you are well aware of the issue, as there was a class action suit that you settled on in 2017. however, i did not purchase my car or have issues with the bolt until after then. what are the options for ppl who are now experiencing this? i have checked with the previous owner and the vehicle was not repaired for this problem and they have no record of being a part of the suit. i would appreciate someone contacting me concerning this and options for repair or replacement immediately. thank you. i could have died has i already gotten on the hi-way or been going much faster. only by the grace of god did that not happen. i pray that your company is ready to take ownership and offer assistance to those who bought and continue to use your products.
Parked the car one night, next morning only clicks, clicking coming from fuse box too. new battery, battery and brake light are on, car dies after sputtering. this is a new $5,000 engine with only 20,000 miles due to a crankshaft pulley break ruining the original one. now, it won't crank, obdii returns codes p0763 and p0101 which are shift solenoid and mass air flow electrical. the cooling fan relaly is burned as well as the fuse box circuit board it goes into. have a mechanic coming to check it but not too optimistic given the car's history. luckily, i only drove 3 miles to my other home when the second time for quitting occurred where it is still, now i'm out of a car and lots of obligations to fulfill and walking.

Bought car started having an over heating problem. compression test came back with complete pass nothing abnormal. car was not starting without a jump so bought a new battery for it everything seemed completely fine. drove a total of maybe ten miles to ace hardware to get some supplies and car started to smoke once i turned the heater off.immediately pulled over white smoke coming from under hood, puddle of fluid in parking spot, and water boiling sound under hood. towed car home then to mechanic where it is sitting now for an estimate being told it looks like i will need a new motor. there is 106,661 plus or minus a 100miles i am the second owner of the well maintained vehicle.when smoking started i was drying on a hwy with speed limit of 55 miles/hr. it is an awd passed smog, and i bought it from a dealer who bought it from an auction. it was a trade in by lessee to the lessor for a newer one. *tr

My 2006 kia sorento has had a few problems that i fear may be very dangerous. a few months ago i was driving on highway and it felt like it was speeding up on its own. as i got off the highway on an s curve the car completely died. the battery and check engine light came on. it started back up and i got to work. the next morning on the way to work it died again at the same spot on the off ramp. i had to have it towed and missed a day of work because of it. i brought it into the shop and mechanic said the alternator belt was loose and he fixed it. however its happened since numerous times when i turn the car off and try to start it again the car wont start at all for 20 minutes to a couple hours. now recently it will shut off as i'm driving and steering wheel is very hard to turn. it is getting more and more frequent and is effecting work. kia dealerships refuse to fix it at cost even though it seems like a big problem that many kia customers have had to deal with. other mechanics say they don't even want to touch the problem because of the reviews of problems on the internet. please inform me and anything i can do as soon as possible.
I was driving on the highway in slushy snow and the brake light & battery light came on. the engine sounded rough. when i went to pull of the highway, i had no power steering.
While moving at 70 mph interstate speed limit, my daughter heard a loud pop and the engine made popping noises as she brought the suv to a stop on the side of the interstate. she ultimately restarted the vehicle and drove at 30 mph with flashing hazard lights on until reaching the next exit (2-3 miles max.) to a safe location being around 9:00 pm in the evening. the suv was taken to a firestone mastercare store in chattanooga, tn. after removing the engine cover, the mechanic found part of the spark plug and ignition part, indicated that the location where the spark plug was inserted had been stripped out by the parts blowing out of their normal location with extreme pressure. the suv has been towed to my home where it is sitting pending what options are available for repair.
Belt sprocket and harmonic balancer with bolt. the bolt is made of substandard material and broke causing the automobile to lose power steering and other vital car features. no warning, it just broke while in motion causing all of the belts to seize. i was on a hilly mountainous road in my home area of high ridge missouri, acutally on the high ridge.i am lucky that i am smart enough to drive defensively and was able to coast to a safe side road. two mechanics came to my rescue and easily saw that the problem stating that i would need a whole new engine.i have a temporary fix estimate from my mechanic but he says the car really needs a whole new engine.....
6/2015 vehicle began to run rough. local mechanic discovered crankcase bolt had snapped and the pulley and balancer mounting screw had sheared off. shop confirmed a kia kit to fix the issue ($1200.00 + 1007.00 for timing gear kit and water pump) 1/15/2016 while driving into the roundabout on portal way (15 mph) there was a loud clunk from the engine compartment immediately followed by the loss of power steering, asb braking and voltmeter warning lights. the vehicle was towed to mechanics shop where it was confirmed that the new crankcase bolt has broken again damaging the new pulley and balancer also. the shop contacted the local kia dealer and they confirmed that the 2003-2006 v6 3.5l misabishi engines used have a long record of this problem with no permanent fix. the following information was emailed to me from the owner of axton automotive, ferndale wa an ase certified shop, "on wednesday, january 20, 2016, axton automotive <[email protected]> wrote: hello, on you kia. it doesn't look like any fix is permanent on the vehicle. even their own recall/fix is failing. i recommend filing a complaint at the national highway traffic safety administration.. i will come up with some options tomorrow and get back to you. but whatever we decide i recommend not using this vehicle. jim" the vehicle is disabled at this time with no response from kia.

Less than a year prior, timing belt needed replaced. a costly fix. only months later due to problem(common issue kia is aware of) with crankshaft sensor, vehical stalled and died driving down the road. there was no warning for this and when the engine stopped while going down the highway, i lost all control of power stearing, speed, brakes and other main elecrical componets. i was in the middle of a curve of the highway when this occured. this threw me into ongoing traffic. luckily, i only hit a hwy traffic sign. the recalls for this vehicle needs to be updated and added to. this vehical should not be aloud on the road! its dangerous for everyone on the road.
Kia sorento - i have a 2006 sorento that just turned 60,000 miles in october. i had driven it at lunch one day, when i went to leave the office at 5, the car was making an awful grinding noise and the emergency brake light came on, even though the brake was not on. then the power steering went out. i had to have it towed in because the crankshaft malfunctioned and that along with all the belts and parts had to be replaced. it took 5 weeks for the repair, and now it has to go back because one of the new belts is screeching. i paid $1,300 for the repair and kia only paid part of the repair. why would they pay for part and not all, if it was a defective part that there should have been a recall on?
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sorento. while driving at approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the crank shaft pulley bolt fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 83,000. the vin was unavailable.

While driving down highway, both the break light and battery light came on and lost power steering. was able to make it to a safe location. when at first glance it appeared that the main belt has slipped off the pulley. when towed to a service station for assessment and repair, it was discovered that the harmonic balancer bolt had broken off in the crankshaft. we are still in process of trying to find out of the remaining part of the bolt can be removed or if the entire engine will need to be replaced. the bolt is not considered a 'working part' of the engine and extended warranty refuses to cover the repairs. the root of the problem is in the roll pin inside the casing that wears down and the bolt can not support the stress. kia has had a recall on model years 2003 and 2004 but the problem continues for 2005 and 2006 years and research is showing that kia is not covering the problem for 2005 or 2006
While driving almost home, (2-miles) the power steering stopped, we pulled into a gas station, barely missing the fuel pumps. the belt came off. when the mechanic assessed the problem, it was much greater. the harmonic balancer was loose, and the drive pin to the cam belt gear had sheered off. the repairs were costly $1300.00. this is a design defect and has affected thousands of kia owners. the owners are like myself and don't know what to do, so we just pay the bill.. kia denies any issues. this a huge kia cover up! it has been a known defect for a long time, and kia does not want to pay for all the damages, and i'm sure the accidents.

I was turning at a stop light when i loss power steering and nearly crashed.i was able to get it pulled over.i raised the hood and saw the crankshaft pulley lying on the the bottom skid plate.i looked on the internet only to find there are probably thousands of similar cases worldwide.i called kia .they basically blew me off!

While stopped at a traffic light, the car was running fine. when the light turned green, i took my foot off the brake and all the lights on my dash illuminated and the car immediately shut off. i shift into park and restart the car with no problems as if nothing happened. no other issues occurred until today (3 weeks later). this time i started my car and was driving through a parking lot with no signs of a problem. after i stopped, to let a car out in front of me, i took my foot off the brake to proceed. immediately as i stepped on the gas, the dash illuminated, the steering wheel locked, and the car shut off. i tried restarting it a few times, but it wouldn't budge at all. i shut off all electrical devices, such as headlights, radio, and hazard lights and tried starting it again. this time it started as if nothing was wrong. i drove around stopping and going for another 45 mins to see if it would happen again, and nothing. based on what i've been reading, it sounds like this is a common problem. why isn't this getting the same attention toyota and gmc cars received when their cars experienced dangerous malfunctions in several of their cars? perhaps the media needs to be alerted to this to actually bring more attention to the matter. apparently kia is waiting for a few deaths first before they part with money to fix the problem. *tr
Started making loud knocking noise took to repair shop to find out the problem is with the crankshaft bolt, as many other kia owners have been having. *tr
Was sitting parked thankfully but the crankshaft bolt sheared off causing loss of power steering and loss of alternator. this is the second time this has happened within a year. thankfully we weren't in motion when this happened. please investigate as this keeps happening and has happened to a lot of kia sorento owners (looking online). kia issued a service memo telling the service people to use an upgraded bolt, however we had the upgraded bolt and the issue still occurred. *tr
while driving my 2006 kia sorento on wednesday december 17, 2014, a week before christmas, the crankshaft pulley bolt loosened up. under tremendous pressure from the engine the steel pulley bent skewing all belted driving systems: power steering, electrical, electricity to engine, a/c, wipers, heating and defrosting systems, and etc causing me to lose complete control of car while turning corner at busy intersection; loosing steering, complete engine shutdown, panic, and putting me in 'harm's way'! my wife and i had specifically bought this suv because we care and drive our 3 beautiful grandchildren to school/back and to all activities and so many other children (their friends) going to the same places and activities. i thank god this didn't happen with any children or my wife in the car and even under worse situations; ex: expressway driving or so many other life threatening driving situations! i have paid many hundreds of dollars for the repairs and much time and worrying about that terrible incident i have suffered! also my immediate children put much pressure on me to get rid of this unsafe car concerned for their children (my grandchildren) and their friends!
I went to the bank in november of 2014. i shut my car off because its started to make a loud noise . i tried to start it when i was done and it would not start. i was able to get a jump to start it back up but it keep on dying. i was finally able to get it started enough to get it home . it died right before my house so we had to push it into the driveway. when i was driving it home the electrical kept cutting in and out and it was making a loud noise. come to find out the crankshaft pulley bolt broke off into the engine.i only had the car for 8 months and paid $8700.00 for the car. *tr
Kia sorento 2006. crank shaft bolt sheared off. total control of vehicle lost. can not drive vehicle. contacted kia motors who stated they know this happens. exact words of person on phone were "you should have replaced the crank shaft bolt with an upgraded model". as i am a private owner and never got any information from kia this was never done. the dealership was helpful in that they said they would look at the vehicle for a fee, in which case they stated that they could fix it for a large amount and that it was the crank shaft bolt which was the problem. lol i asked them if they were going to put in the upgraded version i was told about, and they said they only have one kind which is the original part. after several conversations with mechanics at the dealership and outside mechanics the vehicle has been non-operational as it is too much money to fix a problem that is not being addressed and is not safe for the road. as a kia owner of more than 2 of their vehicles i am highly upset as this company has took no action in such a huge problem. stand by your product kia. i stood by you buying more than 2 cars over the last decade. that is up in the air now as kia refuses to step up to the plate. kia should fix this problem and this vehicle should be recalled.
On 09/18/2014 arriving home i started to hear loud rumble noises coming from the engine, took it to a local shop and was told it might be the pulleys, however, it was determined the next day - different shop that could make the repairs, the crankshaft pin sheared off (this work was previously done on march 2014 at a total of 1,800+ and here it is again!). mechanic at the shop was the one that saved me $$ this time as he noticed the work as very recent, and suggested i take it back to where the repair had been done in march. one week later - 09/26/2014 i had my car back. however, i suspect this will happen again, since there are so many others having the same problems, and how many other repair shops continue to order the same part over and over. really? hello kia, they need to step up to this situation, before someone is killed. i am so glad i listen to my suv and took it in for servicing, as this could have had disastrous results if i were on the highway going at a higher speed. the best thing here was the honest mechanic! i will never get another kia, and if it does happen again, that's when i will get another vehicle. as i continue to drive, i feel that my suv is just not the same, the engine may have had some damage to which i have no idea how serious. i learned about a year ago that the kia 2006 suv/sorento we a very bad year for this model and it is true, this is not the only high costing repair i have had to pay for, and i do not even have 60,000 on it yet! worse suv i have ever brought! never again. this vehicle is not safe, you never know what will happen as you are driving, and i always rent instead of taking this vehicle, i have no confidence at all. *tr
My 2006 kia sorento, manufactured in august 2005 & was a basic vehicle, no luxury model.a rental car business was 1st owner and only had it for a few months, then i bought it from a dealer in sept 2006 w 14,000 miles. it is 8 years old with 108,000 miles. the check engine light turned on, i heard loud banging in the hood, then suddenly it turned off while i was driving on city streets. traffic was slow moving. i had it towed to an expert mechanic and owner of his own shop. my mechanic has done some preventive maintenance in the past and considered it to be in excellent condition. he took the engine apart and found pieces broken off from the "intake runner butterfly valve assembly & fell into the engine; also there was a bushing failure in the lower induction manifold. my 3.5 engine was totaled within minutes along with all surrounding parts. the same engine as in the recall. my kia has a 3.5 engine, same as in the recall bulletin #tt2008020601. the recall bulletin was for kia models 2003-2005, yet this exact incident was described in the recall bulletin. i have two photos of some of the damage (1st photo is the intake runner assembly w/two broken missing butterflies for cylinders 5 & 6 & the 2nd photo of a piece of the butterfly stuck in the intake port of the cylinder head -both taken on 9-12-2014.) i then had it towed to a garden grove kia dealership. they inspected & gave me an estimate of $11,700. all they said it was out of warranty and that 2006 models was not part of the recall. how can kia corporation guarantee that the same inferior parts were not installed in my 2006 sorento? it was manufactured in 2005. kia corporation should take responsibility for the damage due to the fact that this problem was not completely resolved with the 2005 models. *tr
The crankshaft bolt sheared off, causing the harmonic balancer to fail. the engine stalled and i coasted to safety. this happened on the interstate at 75mph. kia is aware of this and should be held liable. *tr
I have a 2006 kia sorento. my 16 year old daughter was driving her brothers to practice and the car totally locked up, the engine failed, she had loss of the power steering, loss of the cooling system, all together loss of control of the vehicle while she was driving and fortunately, for us, she was able to get it off the road safely. this was an extremely hazardous condition not only to her and her brothers but to other drivers on the road and that were around. we had the car towed to a mechanic and he said the bolt sheared off in the engine and he could not get to it and the whole engine would need to be replaced. he suggested we tow it to the local kia mechanics. after having it towed to the kia dealership, it was confirmed that the crankshaft bolt sheared off causing damage. i was further told this has been a recurring issue with kia sorentos and there was even a recall on this extremely dangerous issue. the dealership tells me my car is not included in the recall. i am at a complete loss as to how this is an on going documented problem with the bolt in models just prior to my sorento being recalled and the same issue existing in my vehicle and it is not included when it is quite obvious that the problem is the same. not only did they put my children in a dangerous situation by not disclosing or providing some solution to a problem that they are well aware of and is documented, they have now caused extreme distress. there is a flaw in the manufacturing of their vehicles and an obvious breakdown in their recall process and as a result their customers are suffering! this is a safety issue that should be resolved quickly. thank goodness no one was hurt, this time! these are people's lives that they are putting at risk daily! *tr
Car dies while driving. no check engine light appears. later car starts and runs fine until a few days later at next failure. driver loses engine, power steering, and power brakes. engine code finally appears after 3rd incident and is p0337 - crank shaft positioning sensor. this is a safety issue and may lead to a crash or death since driver looses all functions of vehicle. dealer at kia cerritos, calif. seemed unconcerned and stated that nothing could be done under warranty, since warranty had expired, even with low mileage. this is safety issue and should be repaired as a recall. independent auto repair shop group data bases show 100's of incidences of same part failure and engine code with kia sorento and low vehicle mileage. *tr
I was driving down the street in my kia sorento 2006 when i heard a loud bang. all of a sudden my car started to break down. the power steering went out, followed by my brakes and finally, my check engine light came on as the rest of the car started to fall apart on the road. the car completely died in the middle of an intersection. my car was towed to a local bp where after inspection i was informed that my engine crank bolt had blown off, destroying my crank shaft, pistons, belts, etc. my engine is ruined and cannot be fixed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 kia sorento. the contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer. the dealer stated that the crankshaft pulley bolt had seized in the crankshaft and had broken. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000. the consumer stated as her daughter was driving, the check engine light illuminated, and there was a horrible noise coming from the engine. the vehicle was taken to the nearest service center, one mile down the road from her home, but the vehicle became more difficult to steer and when her daughter pulled in the parking lot, she could no longer steer the vehicle and all of the instrument panels light illuminated. the mechanic stated the repair would require the engine being pulled and to repair or replace the crankshaft or replace the engine entirely. either way, it would be costly. updated 05/19/14 updated 06/10/14*lj updated 06/13/2014 *js
Vehicle's battery, brake, and check engine lights came on while parked at home, opened hood, noticed belt was slipping, and crankshaft pulley was spinning almost free. contacted mechanic who performed most recent maintenance, he attempted to repair work under assumption was faulty. problem reoccurred 3 months later, mechanic now convinced he is not the cause of this. research shows common issue with this make/model. crankshaft bolt appears to break free of pulley. will require engine block disassembly to determine if crankshaft has been damaged. *tr
With only 46000 miles, i heard a sound, and like everyone else who has posted this problem, no power steering, everything lite up on dash panel. the crank shaft pulley bolt was broken. i was able to get it to a mechanic, he replaced the bolt. then 3 days ago, the same thing!!! i have had problems with the break lights burning out at least every 3 months-clock changes time. three years ago the air condition failed, after much debate, kia fixed it. how can this not be a recall?! if i can get this fixed-never will i buy or recommend a kia of any kind!!!!! *tr

car at first would shut off while driving , pulled car over and would start back up, took car to mechanic and said it was the crankshaft sensor, replace crank shaft sensor, few weeks later problem return, mechanic thought it was the camshaft sensor still had the problem of car shutting off while driving in city and highway.finally after months of back in and out of the mechanics while driving crankshaft bolt broke while driving, affecting the harmonica balancer and timing belt causing the vehicle to lose all power in the car and had no power steering, very little control of the vehicle, coasted into driveway luckily no on-coming cars , after spending several hundreds of dollars for repairs, mechanic is telling me the engine is no good, car is undrivable needs new engine at cost of 5300 dollars. *tr
I got this car about a month ago and 3 days after the purchase i could smell the catalytic converter it was extremely strong, then a rumble sound under the car from the exhaust. a day later i was driving to work and the a/c compressor started squealing extremely loud and there was a ticking sound. took it to the auto dealer i got it from and they said it was the compressor belt, dealer replaced belt and there is still a noise of ticking and a faint screeching noise.. they also said they fixed the exhaust but i am still having issues with the smell . this weekend i was on the highway and i was at 65 mph, there was a loud noise and the engine bogged down and sounded like it died and came back on. i made it home without anymore problems. today i was driving 40 mph and the engine made a noise and the car bogged again. i was stopped at a light and got up to 40 mph again and the engine did the same thing. this is going to cause serious injuries to somebody. my car is going into the shop thursday but after reading all the reviews it looks like i just wasted all this money on a piece of junk. something needs to be done about this before somebody gets killed. i'll contact help me hank as well . *tr
2006 kia sorento complaint: engine , steering, electrical system , exterior lighting ,throttle position sensor i am changing the head lights every 4-5 month and i think it needs to be looked at. was driving 35 mph when the engine light and brake light came on with no warning. and just last week 2/2/2014 the engine stopped and i had no power steering and also no brakes. i was able to coast to a side road and barely got the vehicle to stop. the vehicle was taken to an mechanic, who diagnosed and had to replace a throttle position sensor and a mass air flow meter and air filter and the harmonic balancer. this is crazy these problems and requires extensive and expensive repair to the engine. this indicates to us a manufacturer's design flaw and probable safety issue that should be addressed by kia worldwide. it's disturbing with how many other complaints i'm reading on this site about the same exact thing! is there any help out there this is too expensive for all these repair. the failure mileage was 73,100. *tr
After doing preventive maintenance replacing timing belt at 60k the drive pulley bolt loosened (after three hours of driving) and the drive pulley popped off the shear pin, loosing control to the steering, breaks that are run by the serpentine belt . mechanic was able to reconnect drive pulley, pin and bolt to crank shaft. five months later the same happen. kia customer service is not returning calls. kia dealer say's needs a new engine. my vehicle was not one of the ones on the drive bolt recall. the internet is full of people with the same problems spending thousands to repair. *tr

Wife was driving 40 mph when the engine light and brake light came on with no warning. the engine stopped and she had no power steering and also no brakes. she was able to coast to a side road and barely got the vehicle to stop. the steering was very difficult. if it would have broke another 200 feet ahead she would not have been as lucky since there is a very sharp and dangerous curve. the curve has a single guard rail that she more in likely would have went through resulting in a 400 foot drop down a steep hill. possibly resulting in a fatal crash.the vehicle was towed to coughlin kia dealership in newark ohio. we were informed that the crankshaft bolt had broke in the motor. this caused the timing pulling and main pulley to break off. the result was major engine damage.the service manager contacted his kia regional rep.and was informed the damage was not covered under the 10 yr./100000 mile warranty. we did have the same dealership replace the timing chain 2yrs. earlier at appr. 57000 miles as kia requires this maintenance done before 60000 miles.they also replaced the crankshaft bolt as kia recommends it also. this was a cost of nearly $800 for this service. the estimate for the engine replacement is $4000 on a vehicle valued at $6000. kia refuses to deal with this issue on these motors. their was arecall on the 03 & 04 engines but the problem still exist. it is just a matter of time before someone will be killed driving these vehicles. *tr
